Wylder Bachelor is an exquisite historical western romance I couldn’t stop reading. It’s another installment in the Wylder West series and I have to admit, this one is my favorite. Why? Well, the characters for one. Virginia Barlow creates characters you’ll either love or hate. Her hero and heroine are complex with many foibles. For Maryanne, she tends to be impulsive and feisty. I love the feistiness and I cringed at her impulsive ways. For Jackson, he’s very rigid in his thinking and he tends to miscalculate and misjudge people. As far as the antagonists, these men are utter evil and despicable. I wanted someone to tie them up by their entitled toes and let them hang. The setting of Wylder is another reason why I love this book. Virginia Barlow draws the reader in with her descriptive narration. It’s so vivid, so lush, I could smell the smells and reach out and touch the horses. The plot moves at a nice easy pace with plenty of action scenes. It’s the old west so there are plenty of guns, violence, and action but the women hold their own. The romance between Maryanne and Jackson was slow yet the attraction was immediate. The ending made my heart swell and I think I cried a little. If you’re a historical western romance reader, you’re going to love Wylder Bachelor. If you’re a fan of feisty, independent heroines, pick up Wylder Bachelor. Highly recommend!

Wylder Bachelor The Wylder West By: Virginia Barlow Narrated by: Dawson McBride
Looking for a western, historical romance? Love a little romantic suspense? Well here it is! Virginia Barlow gives us her addition to the Wylder West series and it's amazing! Not wanting to live the life her father has planned out for her, Maryanne takes things into her own hands. Planning her escape, nothing goes as planned, and when she finally finds herself in Wylder, she is in a heap of trouble. Lucky for her, she finds Jackson. He runs the livery and takes her in to nurse her wounds and keep her safe. But he refuses to give her his heart. When her past comes knocking on the door and things go crazy, he begins to realize all the things she never revealed. But will it be enough for him to chase her and bring her back to Wylder? I love this couple. Maryanne is an independent woman, and for the time, it's not an easy thing to be. I love her spunk and willingness to do what it takes to survive. Jackson has such a teddy bear heart. He is sweet, caring and protective! This is a great listen with a fantastic supporting cast of characters. Some to love and some to hate, it's the perfect mix of romance and suspense. A great addition to the series.
Dawson McBride continues to bring the Wylder West alive. His voice is one of my go to for a good comfort listen. He brings an easy pace, great voices and the perfect story telling. It's a pleasure to hear his narration.
Wylder Bachelor by Virginia Barlow kept me on the edge of my seat! Chet the Livery owner is a stick in the mud who gets his world rocked when Maryanne hides in his stable.
Maryanne is a feminist who I want as my new book bestie. She will do anything to help others including put herself in danger and bending the law. You can imagine how well that sits with our hero, lol. Barlow blends a fast-paced plot with all the feels as these two extremes learn from one another and find their happily-ever-after in the middle. This is a book I had to read in one sitting because I was so worried for Maryanne. She attracts danger but is strong enough to handle everything the baddies shoot at her.
Overall, I highly recommend this book to western romance fans or romantic suspense fans who don't mind swaggering into the Old West.
Wylder Bachelor was an "okay" book. The story itself is exciting, beginning with a bank robbery and then an unexpected killing. The girl, Maryanne, dressed as a boy passes out in a stall at the livery in the next town over. This is a problem since she has been shot and has lost a lot of blood. Jackson has been trained as a doctor, and decides he will take care of the boy without alerting the town doctor or anybody else. Of course, he discovers his patient isn't a boy, but a young girl. They build a friendship over the next few weeks while she heals. She doesn't trust men, but she finds his kindness surprising, She has never known a kind man. Good story I enjoyed reading.
Lonetree Wyoming Territory June 1880 Maryanne “Lucy” Wagner is wanting to get away from her abusive fiancé. A plan comes together, and she put it into action. Before Maryanne can get too far she’s drawn into helping a young woman get away from a beating and making a bargain with the woman. Injured during her escape, Maryanne ends up in the livery stable in Wylder. Chet Jackson Daniels has recently taken over his father’s part of the Wylder livery. When he finds a young man unconscious that he debates of helping. Jackson as he’s known isn’t thrilled to be helping what he soon finds out is a woman in disguise. Jackson’s better nature takes over and helps the young woman. His past and her danger will combine to put them both at risk. This Wylder Bachelor just may find the woman meant for him.
