Blood Oath #1

Bound in Crimson

Rate this book
I should hate them, yet there’s no denying my body reacts to their every touch.

When my ancestors lost everything in a business deal gone wrong, they were forced to make a sacrifice—a blood oath, promising the firstborn daughter of their bloodline to a league of vampires.

And now they’ve come to collect.

Atlas.
Kade.
Gabriel.
Lex.
All seductively sexy and unimaginably dangerous.

Torn from everything I've ever known, they take me captive in their Washington, D.C. mansion.

Each is determined to own me—body, heart, and soul. I’d be lying if I said the thought of that didn't make my skin tingle in anticipation. Still, the alluring immortals are in for a surprise, because ancient debt aside, I’m not going down without a fight.

Bound in Crimson is the first installment in a sinfully sexy reverse harem paranormal romance series that is sure to leave readers gasping for more!

I wanted to like this one so bad fam. I just couldn’t.
The writing was pretty wonky in the sense that I wasn’t picking up the vibes the author was wanting to give until we were in the thick of a moment, which left me feeling a bit confused as to what the characters were thinking or feeling. Also Calla went from wanting to run away from these guys/kill them to fisting their shirts, pulling them in closer and letting them fingerbang her in like 0.2 seconds with no build up for indication of her feeling changing or anything. Definitely gave me whiplash going from one extreme to another. And I totally understand like “enemies to lovers” hate fucking each other but there is always some sort of shift in perception or dynamic between the characters that leads to them acting on their attraction for one another. Not here. It was just really odd and I could not find myself getting into it. Sorry! 😢

i’m just curious to see where it goes from here since the tension is already there with most of the guys!

Calla's life has been claimed for her by 4 vampires, but she isn't going to give up without a fight. There is just something about a sassy woman going up against vampires that she has not fight against. The spice scenes were H.O.T. and I can tell we are just getting started. The only thing that I wished was that we would've seen a little bit more fight vs. giving in...but ya can't blame the girl! Book 1 ends on a cliffhanger so be ready for book 2!

I feel like this should go without saying since it's a vampire book, but stay clear if you have blood issues.

This appears to be JA Carter's debut book and it's a very well done debut. The writing is excellent, along with the pacing and the editing. The blurb, I think, does a great job of setting the stage for what the book is about and this first book is a nice introduction to the main characters, with a lot of mystery surrounding what the main guys want with the FMC (beyond a blood oath being made generations ago). Calla, the FMC, doesn't just roll over and go along with whatever these vampires want. There's a lot of pushing back, demanding answers, some running away, and fight in her. On the guys' parts, there seems to be a mix of genuinely caring about her, a whole lot of flirty interest, and the guy who you just don't know how he feels/what he thinks except for flashes here and there. We do get some moments of possessiveness too, which I love.

I'm wondering if there's more to Calla and the guys than just the blood oath, because despite her anger and distrust, she's very drawn to them physically (vampire allure possibly aside). There's a bit of betraying body trope here because of these feelings. Things get steamy between her and some of the guys very quickly and it is h-o-t. There are also moments where each of the guys seem to connect emotionally with Calla, some of the guys more than others again, but the steam definitely starts happening before the relationship development in this one. Hopefully book 2 solidifies more of the relationship development/emotional connection side, along with some answers to all those questions.

Sometimes I did get a bit frustrated that Calla's thought processes and actions didn't always lead to the best decisions safety-wise. She's trying to escape an unknown fate within a situation that she didn't agree to (thanks Calla's ancestor), but some of her choices put her potentially in greater danger. Of course, since she doesn't have answers to the questions she keeps asking, there's an element of "how would she know that".

Book 1 does end on a big cliffhanger with a lot of questions dangling. This is shaping up to be a good series for vampire lovers and folks looking for something steamier. For readers who like to know, there was no mm or ff in this book (I don't know if either is expected in future books in the series) and no other woman drama.

Right, so background, I needed something to clear my head from the mindfuck series by S.T. Abby (go read that one instead of this) and I thought a vampire RH romance would do the trick.

The danger I am now seeing in a RH book with more than 3 men (so at least 4) is that it is quite difficult apparently to write distinctive characters. There is always one funny one, one handsome one (although they're all handsome, but this one cares more about his looks than the others), one grumpy one that takes a bit longer to realise he wants to fuck the MC, and lastly the perfect boyfriend really who is just sweet and caring and thoughtful (why do you need the other three...?).

The same was the case for this book in my opinion and the first time I read a RH book it was all new and fine and now it's getting a bit boring.

The story itself was quite fast paced and at the same time so damn slow.

Fast paced and slow because a lot seemed to happen, while in fact, nothing was going on at all . The FMC was kept in the dark about everything, except for the fact that she was bound to these vampires by some blood pact/debt or whatever and she now belongs to them. There were some "tense" phone calls with raised voices, secret conversations with whispers, and a random guy visited. But like the FMC, the reader is also being kept in the dark.
Then , after about 200 pages of this "something is happening, but the author is not giving us anything at all" .

Also... She had to argue with them to be able to continue going to her classes, but then she can just go to a party without a problem because they join her, but half of them instantly fuck off to play beer pong...?
During the party she's also dancing while saying that this party let's her forget who she is, which "these days is a blessing".... Oh come on, you live with 4 hot guys who all want to fuck you (even if one is too stuck up to act on it rn), how bad can your life truly be if you've only had to move so far..?

This book was just not giving (lesson to self: don't follow all the Bookstagram recommendations, this isn't the first bad one).

Except for the spice, it was sorta spicy, but quite disappointing really since the vampire aspect was kept to a bare minimum, except for the fangs, you'd forget they are vampires. I was hoping for the dark, moody vampire to get his head out of his ass and join in on the fun in book 1, because I thought he might make it more exciting. But that is not enough of a reason for me to go and read book 2. So guess I'll never know how "talented" he probably is according to the FMC.

Small addition, the fact that the FMC's favourite drink is a peppermint mocha should be a crime!

Mmmm, I won't lie, I was kind of disappointed with this one. I knew I wanted to read a PNR book as a palette cleanser before jumping back into my TBR and I saw a friend had reviewed it on instagram, so I gave it a shot!
I want to start off by saying that in no way did I think this book was "bad" per se... I just thought it could have been written way better if there was more attention to detail.
I don't know anything about this author, but I am just going to assume they are from the UK or some place similar because one of the things I was hung up on was the phrasing and word choices in this book. The story takes place in the United States, but the author chose to state that the heroine was in "university" when we call it college, or that she was in a certain "term" when we call it semesters, or talking about how she's in a program but we call it majors/minors. There were other phrases in there that I caught as well that are things I think the author's beta readers should have caught because the author might not have known better based on where she may be from.
Now I know you're probably like why does stuff like that matter? I think it adds to the believability of the story. Yes, I know this is fiction, but when I'm caught up on things like that, it takes away from my enjoyment and I feel like I would not be the only one.
On to the actual plot. I think that the idea of the story was amazing in itself. I think it's super interesting to have someone promised to vampires and there's nothing she can do about it, but I felt like this heroine gave up rather easily. She fell into bed with the guys almost immediately (not that smut is a bad thing) but their "relationships" weren't believable to me because it seemed like the majority of the time they were using sex to distract her from wanting answers.
I think the author tried to portray this heroine as strong, but to me it didn't come off that way because time and time again she allowed herself to be distracted with lust instead of holding strong.

I get that this review looks super negative, but I seriously didn't dislike the book. In fact, I'll most likely be finishing the series whenever I want to read PNR again. But on the off chance that the author reads Goodreads reviews, I think that these things need to be pointed out so they can be avoided in future books.

ANYWAYS, this is a quick read filled with plenty of spice, so if that's something you're looking for then this could definitely be the book for you!

I really loved this book for everything that it was! I new I was going to like it because it was fantasy, and had vampires. However it was so much more then that! Over all I got a sexy thrilling read that I just could not put down! It was so much better then I thought it was going to be! I was very plesently surprised! However that being said it had more sexy parts to it then I had originally thought there would be. They were well placed though, and detailed enough to keep you wanting more. I also didn't like how it just cut off at the most interesting part. Although it is probably going to make me pick up another book so I guess that for the better :P.

Over all it was a nice surprise from all the other books I have read in this category. So I would recommend it to anyone who like this kind of reading as well! It is a top rater as of right know. And I will be picking up all the books at one point or another.

As the tital suggests this book cought me off gard, it kept me invested and had some surprises hear and there. The characters were all well develope, as well as the story plot. I deffenitly want to read more on this since it left on such a cliff hanger. I need more !

the story was really well written, and the author draws you in but they're no answers. for a female lead who’s fighting to figure out what’s going on, there’s no growth just more questions and giving in. she doesn’t ask why she wants them so much or what the original deal that created the blood pact was. then add in a cliffhanger where none of the male leads have given anything up or created an emotional connection and it left great smut but a hard plot build.

“Not to mention, I never could have imagined what being bitten would feel like, but if it felt that good in my dreams, could it be that good in reality?”

This novel was a delicious, entertaining, and mysterious read. Right front page one, we’re swept away into Calla’s unruly life. Well, it was calm before she ended up with four vampires in her home. As the novel goes on, Calla is swept away to a mansion with no answers. It’s insane how this author keeps this mystery the entire book. There is a whole sack of steamy scenes (which I loved) because it helped draw out what is going on. Although Calla is always the one apparently trying to distract these four men (with her sexuality), I think they distract her more by keeping her in the dark. The writing in this novel was so good. I’m impressed with this authors first book and cannot wait to see what happens in the next one. One thing that stuck out to me was how there was some definite entwining going on between the four vampires personalities, but Calla was completely her own person. Regardless, it was such a quick, mysterious, and sexy read!🥵

Calla’s life has pretty much been theirs from the start. And she knew that. However, this sassy, funny, and naive heroine thought she had more time, and strength. She really does try to quick wit her way out of certain scenarios, but these men are just to powerful… and delicious. There is Kade who is definitely the chaotic one, Lex the charming and funny one, Gabriel the soft spoken, kindhearted one, and Atlas, the sexy brooding one. I’m totally enchanted by the quick chemistry that has built between these characters because I don’t know what’s going to happen with them. I know their holding stuff back from Calla, I just don’t know what it is… or what else there is lurking😬

“My future may be bleak, but at least there’s coffee.”

I would give this novel 4.5-blood drops🩸

nope, this book wasn't worth the pages it was written on. send them all to jail.
the writing was like talking to character ai 💀💀

i think it was just too fast, i didn't get anything and thrn suddenly she's being kidnapped??
and the fact that she's over here saying "let's go" like girl, you just got kidnapped why are you the one saying "phew let's go I guess 😕"
one might say "hmm put up a fight..maybe????" but the fmc is content with just being kidnapped

idk something about this.. 😐
maybe it was the fmc "i always wanted a tattoo, but the idea of spending that much time in pain ON PURPOSE 😃"
I'm sorry she was just too "quirky and different" for me
"this is why I go to the gym, to keep myself strong in case I have to run" girl
it was giving 2017 wattpad, and I hated that.
I couldn't tell who she was "in love" with at all.

"my future may be bleak, 😕 but at least I have coffee"
it's giving "don't talk to me, I haven't had my coffee yet🙄😠"

sooo.. these vampires can eat human food and all of the other vampires in books, movies and tv shows can't??

honestly i really wanted to like this but it wasn’t good, where was the plot?? where was the love? there wasn’t any.

this was so cringe im sorry (pls do not read this)

Spicy vampire RH hotness

Looking for a good vampire RH read with lots of spice? You got it right here. And oh have those vampire mastered the dirty talk to another level. Hot hot hot, with enough variety to surprise us and keep it interesting.

Even though the spice was very present, the romantic relationship aspect evolves at a slower pace, to make it interesting, realistic and involve the reader in the story.
This first book wasn't super high on action, but it didn't affect my reading in any bad way.

I'm so glad the second book is already out, because I want to know more about these men and their backstory. And something tells me the action is just starting.

I recommend this book!

This is a really great book. I like that you're being eased into the story rather than it being overly complicated from the off. It's simple to follow, without being basic. I love a good RH and this is building so well.
As I neared the end of the book I was panicking that the ending was going to be rushed (as I went in to this not knowing about it, I didn't realise it was a series) I was pleasantly surprised by the cliff hanger end and have already downloaded book 2!
Here's to hoping the spice keeps spicing and the story builds!

Plot: ⭐⭐⭐.5/5
Characters: ❤️❤️❤️.5/5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

I'm a sucker for vampire books (lol) and this book made me wish for a harem of vampires in my living room that want to kidnap me.
I really enjoyed this read. I think it's her debut novel and it was very well done. I loved that it gets straight to the point and that characters are well defined. It's not easy to find RH books where the male characters have a personality of their own. My personal fave? I honestly can't choose...I love them all for different reasons. I would hug Gabriel, merry Kade, kiss Lex and f**k Atlas
The spice is very good, to the point that I wouldn't mind a bite! I can't wait to see Atlas succumb to his needs🥵
Now let's go read book two

Hmm....So there is some good, but there's also some bad. First of all this has a cliffhanger ending 🤨 Please don't call a cliff hanger ending a series starter they are completely different things! I want to be able to make the decision on whether I'm gonna be left stranded in middle of a story before I start reading!!
Now to the actual story.... this is a reverse harem story but the power remains solely with the 4 vampire men. The main character is supposed to be tough but after being kidnapped with no clue if she is about to be slaughtered or not, jumps into sex after day 1 of captivity. Then preceded to yo-yo between fighting to get free and "take me I'm yours" for the majority of the book. There's some hint of a larger story with a potential bad guy but I guess you have to wait for the next instalment to get any plot to go with the sex.
As for the four vamps, let's just say there's very little world building going on to help you understand them. They just seem like normal guys with some extra powers. Apparently nobody knows they exist and they chuck up a stink when she tells her best friend, because it's an uber secret (unless you happen to be their tattoo artist, then it's totally ok).
Overall the writing is good and easy to get through, there's plenty of sex and that's written well too, but if you want something to happen in between these scenes you may have to wait for book 2 or look elsewhere.

Calla has always knew vampires would come knocking at her door at some point. After all, she was the bargain chip that her ancestors used to make a deal with the vampires. Too bad that Calla doesn't have a say in it when the vampires come for her, and although she tries to escape her attempts are quite weak and she falls in bed with them right away.

I started this book after hearing high praises about it, but I was left disappointed. Calla isn't portrayed as a strong heroine, and her and the vampires fall in bed together just because. There is no chemistry.

Thank god I got picked up this book because it was quite enjoyable considering that my first two books of 2022 were one stars. This book was three stars because I loved the chemistry between Calla and her guys. Atlas: the leader and the broody one was the only one who didn’t have any sex scenes which I felt like showed that he was different and had more control as a born vampire. I think I liked Lex the most. Probably because they had the most scenes together building a connection. My favorite scene was when they all went to the St Patricks Day party. They were all so protective of her. Furthermore, I think my second fav guy was Gabriel because he cooked and took care of Calla and showed that he actually cares about her. Throughout the book, I saw myself skimming though descriptions. Maybe I just wanted to see their relationship bloom so I wasn’t as invested in the setting. Furthermore, Calla’s attitude in the beginning was super annoying because like I understand that she tries to escape but after her first attempt failed, she should have bided her time to find a better moment. Also, this book spanned over 4-5 days which not a short time. Lastly, we didn’t really learn anything. The secrets the guys were keeping were not revealed. The reveal at the end didn’t pertain to why Calla was doing at the guys mansion. The plot was more character based. I am guessing the next book is more plot based now that Calla is captured. Especially after reading the synopsis of the second book, I know I don’t want to read it. Ok, those are my thoughts. Overall, it was a pretty average debut novel.

TW: Heavy Smut

If you love sexy vampires and a thrilling mystery, then this is the book for you.

Bound in Crimson is a contemporary romance between Calla and her four vampire captures (that's right, four!) - all of whom are as attractive as you hope they would be. Between Lex's tattoos and bad boy attitude, Atlas' moody nature, Kade's innate ability to annoy the crap out of Calla, and Gabriel's infinite tenderness, there is quite literally somebody for everyone to obsess over. And yes, all of them are ridiculously muscly. Personally, my favourite was Gave, who seemed to be the most caring of the lot - and the best cook! He is also the vamp with the most complex relationship with Calla, as they face a major disagreement half way through the book. Unfortunately, though, none of them would even look twice at any of us readers due to their love for Calla.

After being kidnapped by four vampires who made a deal with her ancestors, Calla is not at all pleased, and understandably so. As the story progresses, she soon learns that living with 4 vampires isn't actually as bad as it seems, even if they constantly keep information about her own safety from her. In my opinion, she switches up from hating them to having sex with them way too quickly for there to be a well-developed plot and in depth relationships, but who can blame the girl? She's surrounded by four super sexy immortals who would do anything for her. I'm pretty sure I'd change my mind quickly, too.

One thing I did really like was the dynamic between the vampires themselves. There is quite obviously a brotherly love between the four of them, developed over a long history spent with one another. They constantly antagonise each other - which was very entertaining to read - but there is a sense of deep-seated loyalty between them that is apparent in multiple scenes. If only the same treatment had been given to Calla and her best friend, Brighton. I felt that their relationship was neglected a little, and though it makes perfect sense given the plot, it still would've been nice to see more interactions between Calla and Brighton.

If you're looking for a quick, spicy read, then Bound in Crimson is definitely the book for you. There are countless sex scenes in this book, even including a few threesomes. And let me just say, each scene was hotter than the last.

However, if you prefer a book to have a more developed plot, then this perhaps is not the best choice. It very much felt as though the plot was used as a filler just to get to the sex scenes, and whilst it was enjoyable, it also became a bit repetitive and predictable after a while. There is a lot of mystery throughout the book, but it is ignored on multiple occasions in favour of reading another sex scene; granted, the mystery is mentioned a lot, but only on a surface level. The mystery isn't developed very far until the final chapter, which (annoyingly) leaves the book on a cliffhanger. Admittedly, I did find myself wanting to read the next book in the Blood Oath series to find out what happens to Calla and our four loveable vamps, so clearly the book was enjoyable (plus I already have a crush on the new female vampire introduced at the very end, so I need to know more about her).

“There are four vampires in my living room.” Aaannndddd I was sold.

If you’re looking for a spicy vamp rh with a snarky kick ass fmc, I recommend y’all give this a whirl! Bound in Crimson is an entertaining read chock full of hot af vampires, with lots of drama, mystery, and a little spicy spice & is absolutely binegeworthy.

Our FMC Calla gets her life upended when a group of vampires come to collect her thanks to a decades old deal her great-great-grandfather made. While she may be forced to move in with them, Calla does her best to defy them every chance she gets. She expects to be treated like their prisoner and plaything, but instead her captors are funny, kind, a little crazy, and insanely overprotective.

The vamp boys make it so easy to forget about why she’s really there, but despite the pull she’s feels towards them, there’s too many secrets Calla doesn’t know that could endanger her, and the boys are very tight lipped. Certain secrets eventually do get revealed, but Calla uncovers even more and the book ends in one heck of a cliffhanger. I’m beyond excited for Tempted By Fire, I need answers!

Warning: This is not a standard review, it is not meant to tell others how I felt about the book, it is my personal review/ notes on the book as I read/ random rants (for when I look back in the future to see how I felt about the book) and probably NOT a great way to tell if you want to read the book.
As I can not make reviews private this is my warning:
It’s all slightly random, choppy and most likely confusing // read at your own discretion. Will also contain lotsss of spoilers.

I feel like all the sex scenes could be taken out and no plot would change 😅cause they don’t affect anything. And are so random. Like she always says she wants a distraction and then fucks them. Like girl. Deal with something.

——
I feel like the sexual encounters don’t even change her feels towards them at all. Which is interesting. I kinda of get it because she’s supposed to only do that stuff because they are so hot and she needs something to distract her. And I get that because this isn’t a situation she can really fight at all. So getting something out of it makes sense. But I wish she viewed it more as that.
I also really do wish the first bite had more lead up and was a bigger deal.
Her feel song towards each guy seam to completely ignore as sexual stuff she’s done. Which I guess is good but as weird. Like I feel like she’s made no connection at all to lex but now he’s gonna bring her with him and tell her a bunch about them. It’s just kinda random. Like we don’t know him at all at this point.
I do like that she still kinda hates them all aside from the sexual stuff. I just wish that was a little too.
It’s almost like the author didn’t know how to start this series and is just kinda having the characters do whatever and then will start the plot once they’ve had some interactions.
The story line and ideas and stuff are good. Just feels a little chopping on the execution.
The writing isn’t bad at all for an authors first book. I do feel like it’s written almost British but that ok with me as I do read a lot of British authors. Just weird with this one cause it’s set in DC
Over all tho I am having a good time. Mainly because I’m able to look past the flaws and just have fun. But I do hope our connection to each character will get stronger. It’s just hard when we don’t have much to grab onto.
I feel like Gabriel we know well and his character is pretty strong. But with that I wish the bite meant more.
I also feel like we know atlas well. Lex has just been there to pop in and out of scenes. And Kade is just there for sexual stuff.

The guys are very quick to get with her and to act normal about her staying there. Which in one sense I can get. They’ve been preparing for this and they’ve been watching her this whole time. But that doesn’t mean this wouldn’t be a weird change for them. Unless they’ve done this before? But that doesn’t seem right. Or they are in love with her because of everything I’ve seen. But then I feel like they should be more excited about her being there. Idk I just wish they had some sort of feelings about it. Cause right now that just kinda don’t seem fazed at all. Like it’s just about her Tuesday to them

So sex is pretty normal?
Also this was so random, you’d think they first time with one of them would have more build up or meaning but 🤷‍♀️
And I’m surprised it’s with lex. They like don’t know each other at all 😅

Her realizing she doesn’t want to leave isn’t new, so they realization isn’t really a thing. Cause nothings changed since day one
“Seeing you like this is exactly what I need” hehehehe we love Gabriel

Ew Gabe has a soft spot for beautiful humans?
I hope she’s scared for them to bite her after this
100% bro whattt?? Who the hell is this?? 😅

I get her being freaked out, as she should be but girlllll you idiot. They are gonna be pissed. But I hope she’s pissed right back at

Ok I’m excited to read about them trying to find her I realllyyy hope we get their Povs!
Also just read the blurb for the next book and I’m already stressed 😅 Gabriel knows the girl who kidnapped her?? I want the story. Also vampire hunters? Interesting.
Yayyyy more POVS!!
I am nervous that book 2 is just gonna throw us into more information that’s gonna be a lot to take in. Especially because we’ll be getting the guys POVS

Overall good book. Having fun and that’s kinda all that matters. There are lots of issues. But I expected when I went into it. So I’m having a good time

Another flop for me. Unlikable MFC, because of course she has to know everything! Why wouldn't century old vampires (ooooh) explain themselves to a college going student? I mean whyyyy not? And how could an author make a plot out of this? A stupid pl0t cause the heroine is brain dead. So yes. I another flop. And at the last sentence of the book it gives you that hint, you've been begging for the last 250pages. I would have loved a good vampire smut. I don't need much, just not stupid.

PS: I bet the BFF family are vampire hunters or something!

Let's just say I wasn't the target audience like I thought I was at first. I wish I could give it a 2.5 star as it was just "Okay" and yet I did "Like it" a bit. I liked that was easy reading and not filled with too much filler description about things that weren't pertinent to moving the story along. In the same token there were times where there wasn't enough description to help me envision the characters in scene to an another.

While I'm not a prude and enjoy a good story with a bit of erotica or steamy scene I don't like books that make it seem like that is the only substance to the book. This book just didn't really tell a story other that there were four vampires and one chick they all have or want to do the deed with and drink her blood. YAWN. The "heroine" is not a character I particularly find bright and is easily distracted.

While the allure of a Vampire story with a reverse harem sounds appealing at first it loses something for me when there is no real bond being built between the characters other than lust and discerption. Most of all I am never a fan of books that end on a cliff hanger just so the author can sell more books. It is a bait book.

I prefer books that end their story completely and then MAYBE leaves a couple of paragraphs at the end to indicate there is a door open for a next book with a whole new story line to follow. But that's not what this book is at all. Instead it is trying to be like a TV show with one season that ends on a cliff hanger in hopes you will be back next season to continue the show's series. I will not be continuing with this series. Truth be told I just don't care enough to want to find out what happens to dumb Calla next. I'm sure it will be more of the same in the other books that was in this book.
