S. Massery is a dark romance author who infuses all her stories with a dash of suspense. Formerly from Massachusetts, she now resides in Southern California with her dog, Alice.
Before adventuring into the world of writing, she went to college in Boston and held a wide variety of jobs—including working on a dude ranch in Wyoming (a personal highlight). She has a love affair with coffee and chocolate. When S. Massery isn’t writing, she can be found devouring books, playing outside with her dog, or trying to make people smile.
This was such a good read. To be honest I don’t know what I would have done if I didn’t have all of these books available all together. I have had a roller coaster of emotions reading these books. It was thrilling reading through the story and waiting to figure out how everything connected. If it wasn’t three o’clock in the morning I would start the next one, but u know. Sleep.
Did I just read my first bully dark romance? Sure did! Mainly because I had no idea what a bully romance was so once again thank you KU for giving me options 😉 . The Wicked trilogy follows Margo who’s been bounced around different foster homes until eventually finding herself back in her home town and attending high school with kids she’s known from childhood. One of those kids is Caleb whom she considered her best friend until she tore their families apart with one confession. Caleb’s life changed drastically that day and he’s been carrying around a dark anger that intensifies when Margo transfers to his school. Now all he can think about is revenge. . I'm not going to review each book but my overall feeling for all three books would be 3.5 - 4 ⭐️ overall. Keep in mind that books 1 and 2 end on cliffhangers so you really have no choice but to read them all. . I wasn’t really sure on this trope. I mean, do I want to read about people being bullied? Is this a thing? But I guess being a questionably sick person I kind of enjoyed it 🤦♀️. I liked the story line which was a bit of a murder mystery, past familial grievances, Margo’s memory gaps as well as the whole high school setting. I mean the whole thing is totally messed up but I was totally there for it 🤣. The themes were definitely darker and should be checked for possible TW before reading.
Would have rated it higher if it wasn’t high school students. For the shake of not feeling like a pedo I had to convince myself they were in college to get through the spicy scenes. Can we stop with writing high school kids at this spice level. Look I get it. High school kids have sex. But, damn grown people don’t want to have age up characters in their minds to enjoy a spicy romance. Damn. Make them at least legal age. Nearly feel like I could catch a case with all of the characters being under 18. Just say’n. It’s kinda gross.
The story begins with revenge. I pity Margo. She doesn't remember the past and she doesn't know what she did. And in the end she was not guilty. Caleb is the opposite. he remembers everything He is haunted by his past and that's why he hates her.
However, their relationship started from a young age. and have influences to adulthood Although Calep is angry and tries to hate Margo, he can't deny his heart that he loves her. Even though he tried to destroy her, he deceived her. He hurt her But in the end, he realized the truth that the one who hurt the most was himself.
Margo has been through hard times for seven years. to make her strong she used to be happy But one day those happiness disappeared. I actually like her strength, but with Caleb, I think maybe she should punish him. but because she loved him so much That makes me sometimes frustrated with her. She should protect herself and her heart from being mentally abused over and over again by Caleb.
I liked the novel but I felt that finding the real villain behind everything. Including the secrets of the Asher family relationship. At first it was very exciting. But after that I got bored. Many times they get close to the truth and realize who is involved. instead of trying to find an answer but instead they let go And start over, start investigating, until I think they made the simple thing difficult. and it almost made me stop reading. There is hardly any interesting content. For example, the incident where Margo threatened Matt. I think he's telling the truth now. and he said something But Margo let him go and thinks Ok...let's next time, what? Including Caleb, they knew Matt was the key to them back then and he was influential enough to get Matt talking. But they chose to let go. Why? and that made me feel and the relevance of each character as the villain Honestly, it's confusing and unnecessarily complicated.
However, I'm giving four stars because I'm still enjoying this novel. If anyone wants to read a high school bully and revenge , I recommend it.
When I say that this book is underrated then I sure as hell MEAN THAT THIS BOOK IS UNDERRATED!! And let me tell you, I just got in love with the friends to enemies to lovers trope and bully romance again (I‘m a sucker for this trope)😫😭
Caleb and Margo are so perfect I can‘t stop thinking about them and I can‘t believe that I got yet another book boyfriend🔥 I‘M IN LOVE WITH THEIR CHEMISTRY, AND WHY IS CALEB FICTIONAL PLEASE CAN I JUST MARRY HIM😫😫😫😭😭😭😭 There was so much going on tho, so it‘s not only all about romance but also finding out something from the past, saving people, getting revenge etc. and this made it so much more mysterious & thrilling, I couldn‘t even put the book down and kept reading🙈
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 🌶🌶🌶🌶/5
I‘m actually proud of myself for finding out who „Unknown“ was right from the beginning but I have to say that I still got trust issues for nearly every character😂👌🏻
I actually wanna give this book 5 stars but for me there were some things missing: for example the painting of both of the MCs, I wish there was a scene where they‘d both show their paintings of each other. Also I was curious about Rileys and Elis break up🥲 and I know those were important but for me the chapters written about the past was too much but I guess that‘s just me.
Anyway I loved the book and I wanna re-read the whole thing however I think this book‘s not for everyone as it’s a dark bully romance✨
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Margo & Caleb Margo has grown up in the system for the last several years of her life. New foster parents bring her back to her hometown and to a school with those she grew up with. She has a unique strength to her and pushes through when needed. A lot of her past is hard for her to remember. Caleb is the king of the school. His family is wealthy and well known and he gets away with anything and everything. He is a tease but also so demanding and commanding. He harbors hate for Margo and a lot of secrets from her as well. Their connection is fierce and instant. They grew up practically in the same house (she lived in his families guest house). They can’t deny each other even when he wants nothing more than to punish her. The dynamic between these two is electric. You want to know all that’s between them but only get bits and pieces at a time. The supporting characters are phenomenal as well and really add to the growth of Margo and Caleb. This does end on quite the cliffhanger leaving you wanting to instantly dive into the next book in the series for more.
I was intrigued by the premise of this book (girl with history in small town returns years later when placed with a foster family, gaps in memory and something terrible went down that appears to be her fault). There was some mystery involved and I really just wanted to know what happened.
I found the writing to be frustrating in that the two main characters had a love/hate relationship but the shifts in their actions often didn’t make much sense. I also didn’t like how the whole premise was that she was seeking answers and would make decisions to pursue obtaining answers, but following statements made by the MMC that she might not be able to handle the truth, she would back off only to continue searching the next day.
I also found the characters’ motives to be inconsistent at times, and often to feed a mean girls narrative.
It truly was just too long for me. Another goodreads review laid out the unravelling that happened at the end and that sufficed for me to decide not to continue.
I loved this series, but i really loved it as a audiobook. The narrators did a great job and their voices do not get on your nerves. The dual POVs really make it. The plot twists in this series are never ending and some you actually do not see coming. I could pick out a few and the ones I thought they were leading to ending up wrong so that was a plus. I really like when I am wrong and can be surprised by a suspense. I did not go into this book thinking it was a book with suspense. I went in this book blind just thinking it was another bully high school romance so I was pleasantly surprised. It was different than the others which broke the monotony of this genre. I give it a 4.5 stars. I did not give it a full five as it just did not give me that " i have to read this again" and the "oh my God i just can't stop thinking about it" vibes. However, while listening to it, I did find myself going "dang it I have to stop now.... So all in all, I really liked it and recommend it.
I’m happy to see that there will be more in this world, because I was left with a few burning questions!! To say that Margo and Caleb went thru a gambit of emotions and revelations would be a gross understatement. Throw in some blocked memories and lots of family drama and you’ve got yourself a killer roller coaster ride. Throw in a handful of faithful friends and some snarky cheerleaders and even more drama ensues. Great storyline that kept me guessing until the very end.
If you like Pretty Little Liars but need more spice, then this is the series for you.
This is a steamy bully romance that deals with some very serious issues like domestic abuse, foster care and digital harassment. And I loved every second of it. Margo is an absolute badass and Caleb is your typical, untouchable bully. Their chemistry is just *chef's kiss*. The mystery/suspense in this was breathtaking and the plot twists???? Woah.
I was unsure of this series when I first started reading. But OMG how I was dragged in. It had everything, a bit of mystery, murder, love and some sex. It has an awesome storyline and you definitely feel like you are in some bumper cars at time. I truly loved the characters and storyline. I have to admit I thought Unknown was the foster care worker when she gave Margo the new phone.
So very many twist and turns for Caleb and Margo. Margo had it very rough after the incident. Shoved into foster care and a rough go of each location she was sent to. All thanks to Caleb. But than they were reunited. And the saga continued. I can’t wait to read more by this author!!
This was such a good trilogy! Sometimes, when books go into 2 or 3 parts, they have a hard time keeping my attention. But this trilogy had my attention from beginning to end, anxiously awaiting what would happen next. Who is "unknown" (first book I guessed wrong, but had an inkling by the second book)? What did Margo do that made Caleb hate her so much? Loved it. Would recommend.
I fell in love with that trilogy and it's my favorite book from this author so far. I just couldn't put down my kindle, I needed to know what was going on, the answers to the mysteries, how Margo and Caleb would react, grow and finally get their HEA. The side characters have their own share of mysteries and I can't wait to know more about Eli and Riley.
I really enjoyed this Trylogy! Intense bully romance, that kept me on the edge until last pages - I couldn't put it down. The characters, story line and plot twists are breathtaking. Must Read Alert!
The underlying story is fascinating and fun to read, but there are elements that skirt the line of cringe when it comes to such young characters engaging in very adult activities. The spice was a little too much, didn't progress the narrative, and seemed to interrupt the characters.
Caleb and Margo were inevitable. Great mystery as well as humming and redemption arcs. I loved it and I can’t wait to find out what the heck happened between Riley and Eli, more about Theo and his mystery girl, and who finally gets Liam’s heart.
I wasn't sure about the bully romance at first but the whole series drew me in. I read the whole trilogy in 4 days. It is a very good series. I really enjoyed it.
What a deeply twisted trilogy. This three-book series kept me on the edge of my seat until the last few chapters. Deceitful parents, family, and friends, yet Caleb and Margo's love survives.
