Combining humor, mystery, and aching hearts in a single space, Imogen Markwell-Tweed’s Escape Room is a heartwarming tale about how a second chance at love can be worth the risk.
Jesse Gitner wouldn’t call his life boring, perhaps average or mellow. Working in IT, Jesse plays it safer than he did in his radical college years. A simple life, innocently following the career of the man who broke his heart. So when he wakes up in an eerie replica of his own apartment with no memory of how he got there, the last person he expected to be trapped with is his ex.
State senator Vincent Turner the Third is hardworking and more than a touch self-loathing. Struggling to be his authentic self and please his father, Vincent has cobbled together his life as best he can. He never expected to see Jesse again, let alone be trapped with him and not know why. Forced together after fifteen years, Vincent and Jesse attempt to escape from their confines and simmering feelings. That is until the door of their apartment prison finally opens.

January 2023. MM romance suspense novella about an IT guy and a senator who dated in college but haven’t seen each other in over 10 years, waking up after being kidnapped and drugged, stuck in a replica of one of their apartments.
This was so-so, didn’t love it by any means but it was quick. Like a 2.75/5 maybe? Looks like the author has a ton of novellas on audiobook on Scribd so I’d probably give another one a try eventually.
Great mystery about first loves, second chances and realizing what matters. The premise caught my attention right away and the story did not disappoint.
I actually have no ducking clue what the heck this was… 1 week later, and I am still confused. I feel that with Imogen, it’s either “okay, this is a light, but entertaining and fun read” or “what in the wattpad is going on”…
I’m too confused to give any official star rating.. but I do believe this one falls in under the “it’s absolutely terrible, but that somehow makes it rather interesting in a somewhat philosophical sense”, and I have given books far more stars then they deserve (quality vice), but I rate out of over all enjoyment… but I actually have no idea what actually happened in this one, like at all. I listened to the audiobook format, and I do not believe reading it as a ebook would have made more sense of the plot either..
If this book is available for free or through your subscription-services, then by all means, go ahead, take it as an “conceptual art experience”. But I do not think you should spend any money for this one alone….
This isn't my first book by Imogen. Her books always seem to be novella length, which I am super into these days. It's easy to stay engaged with shorter books like this. Escape Room wasn't like the other books I've read. [ I actually listened to this one on audiobook form. ] Imogen always does a great job with her character development. This book was more unique to me. It's a second chance romance with some suspense and humor added in. It's LBGQT+ based featuring two male main characters.
It was a pretty good listen. I'll definitely continue to listen / read others by Imogen.
This was a little eerie, I have never done an escape room but it sounded interesting. It took a while to figure out what was going on. This is a second chance romance.
