Memphis: Tristan thinks I don't notice him. He couldn't be more wrong. What he doesn't realize is that we've met before.
The second I spotted him on campus I made the decision to avoid him. Though I told myself it was the right thing to do because of our history, it was more difficult than I'd anticipated.
At a frat party to celebrate the Saints' latest win, I'm confronted by a walking hurricane drenched in emo vibes--otherwise known as Tristan Stafford. Slinging colorful insults that make absolutely no sense, it quickly becomes clear that he's developed strong opinions where I'm concerned. It would seem he hates me and my...dimples?
I'm insulted. Amused. Intrigued. And now he has my full attention.
If he hates me now, I have no idea how he'll feel once he learns the truth. It's a risk I'll have to take because I can't, and won't, stay away from him. Not now. Maybe not ever.
Delayed Game is book four in the Sugar Land Saints Series. The story of opposites attract between the star quarterback and emo playboy is a medium-angst high-steam out-for-you novel.
Baylin writes gay romance stories full of sweetness and steam. She's best known for her Sugar Land Saints series that follows a college football team set in Texas, which she also calls home. Whether writing books or reading them, Baylin spends the majority of her time tucked into the pages of stories about men who love other men. She has two amazing children, a spoiled cat, a hyperactive dog, and a heavy addiction to caffeine.

This book is the epitome of straight women writing gay romance but PUHLEASE tell me, this author has some standard.
Dear God, please tell me you didn't epically FAIL on your creation.
I'm so sorry if I'm offensive but IM PERSONALLY OFFENDED AT THIS.
.... Don't read this if you don't want to get triggered so badly, you'll actually see red.
The husky sound sent a sharp spike of lust straight to my cock, and I glared at him, even though he wasn't even looking at me. The plan to bypass the asshole without giving him another chance to piss me off came to a grinding halt when he glanced at me. He barely paused after he spotted me before he turned back to his buddy. A quiet growl crawled up my throat. Already sexually frustrated and irritated from our run-in at the sandwich shop, I stalked over to the brute, my feet moving without my permission. Coming to an abrupt stop mere feet in front of him, I huffed out a breath, trying desperately to ignore the scent of warm spices that almost made me forget how pissed I was. Memphis jerked around, and his eyebrows shot up as he stared down at me, something like shock painting his features. I waited, then waited a few seconds more, but was met with silence. His teammate cleared his throat, but I didn't spare him a single glance, laser-focused on Memphis, as he tightened his lips as if he refused to speak. "You could say hello, you know," I snapped. "You don't have to be such an egotistical asshole, thinking you're too good to acknowledge the incredibly sexy gay boy—which I am, by the way, in case you were too busy to notice."
Delayed Game was worth the wait! Fans of the Sugar Land Saints Series will LOVE Memphis and Tristan. I was lucky enough to get to read this book prepublication. Baylin has a way of immersing herself in the mindset of her characters that allows them to vividly come to life. The sparks fly when a smart mouthed feisty twink puts the handsome quarterback in his place! This story will keep you laughing the entire way through. Lots of pieces come together in Book 4 that tie the entire series together.
I’m trying to put into words how the characters are but I’m struggling so ima try but idk
Tristan is eccentric, weird, and hilarious. Totally has the hots for Memphis but thought since he didn’t pay him anything attention (he did) & that he was straight (he’s not) that he didn’t have a chance
Memphis is the star quarterback, Bi sexual but only one person knows. Has had the hots for Tristan since he first met him (early event in the book that took place but Tristan doesn’t realize his him until later) but Memphis tried to ignore him (he did not succeed)
They ended up addicted to each other, such a cute ending.
I’m going to miss all the characters in this series 🥹 especially Shaw & Bishop my babies.
Steam- 2.5/3 kinda slow burn compared to the others

This is my favorite in the series! Loved these characters so much, Memphis met Tristan for the 1st time at a very low point in his life.
Fast forward and they become friends that had scorching hot chemistry together! This book was more romantic than I thought it would be and super hot! Loved their journey to an amazing HEA.
I feel generous giving this 3 stars. The plot was not super concise and the characters were lacking depth in all the areas that count. It was a cute easy read though, hence 3 stars.
Now that’s how you end a series!!! This was a great read with heartbreak, laughter, love and unforgettable sweet scenes!! A must have!! Great job Baylin Crow!!
It’s not a secret that I’m a huge fan of Baylin Crow’s writing and when this book dropped on my kindle I giggled like a child! I loved EVERYTHING about this book. Jock and emo trope is a new favourite after reading this! I adore Memphis and the way he treats Tristan. Tristan is a snarky, honest, sweet emo who really doesn’t want anything to do with a jock. But enter Memphis!!! I laughed a lot during this story, there’s some awesome things coming out of Tristan’s mouth! And my heart ached for both of them at some parts of the story. As always Baylin writes sizzling, hot sex scenes with a sprinkle of dirty talk. The kissing scenes are perfect! I like them long and detailed!!!! Great HEA that left me smiling. And of course I wanted more!
And I'm still gonna rate ir 2 stars. Maybe 1.5 more than 2. I think my eyes gonna stay inside the back of my head from so many rolls through this book. Soooo I begin what I hated so much: *BANTER! It was atrocious, childish and over the top. Now I think there was a book about 6 year olds if you remove sex. And these "name calling" ... where do you find this shit....? *DENIAL. Bigger part of the book is in deep denial, secrets and pretending even acknowledging ech other. Oooh and before everything starts they are in this fshit for ~1.5 years. *BIG SECRET. For real?! This is his BIG secret? Oh come ooooon.... * No possibility to like any characters in this book. Why they are so shallow. Why parents are so one dimensional?? And you insert friends just for the sake of it.... *Brake up scene and make up scene. Cringeworthy.... *AND cherry on the top epilogue. Really? Really? Proposal??? Ech I give up....

An update on Baylin Crow's Sugar Land Saints series with "Delayed Game":

God, this book series just like keeps getting better and better. I mean, honestly. I can't get enough of these characters. I still remember several of them and their stories months and months (books and books) later. They're just so damned good. The characters. The plot. The ... not-plot. ;) There was some serious angst in this one (at least, I thought so) and some serious ignoring of feelings. There's also some trigger warnings to heed (mostly just for the prologue, but still, be warned).
Trigger warnings: bullying, homophobia, blackmail, non-consented sex tape recording, leaked sex tape, etc
I read the descriptions for this series and decided the fourth sounded like the best. Now, I have to backup and read the others.
Tristan had a bad experience as a high school senior. It left emotional scars but could have been much worse. A gentle soft spoken giant saved him. Tristan now lives out loud and proud. From his clothes to the silly snarky things he says, Tristan is hard to ignore.
Memphis is a good guy. He is the one who was there for Tristan, but he is afraid to tell him. As they spend more time together, coming clean becomes harder. When Memphis does confess all his secrets, Tristan isn’t too upset.
The guys are good together. Memphis is amused with Tristan’s ramblings. He finds it cute. They are definitely compatible in bed, and Memphis is good at talking dirty.
For the most part, the book is low angst. Due to the their ages (21 & 20), the characters lack maturity and still are financially dependent on their parents. The whole Tris will hate me when he finds out, is overblown. The incident with Memphis’ parents is a bigger deal, but he works quickly to work things out with Tristan.
Most of the book centers on the interactions between the MCs. The book is sparse on details. We are never told Memphis’ major. The characters don’t seem fully developed, but the epilogue is sweet, and the guys are on the road to forever.
I absolutely gobbled this book up like it was pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. I read this in less than 24 hours because I seriously couldn’t put it down.
It’s only fitting that this book marks my 150th read this year (yes, you read that right!) because it was just so well done and special, it’s only right that it fits into a milestone benchmark for me.
Tristan is a spitfire and hilariously so. The words that come out of his mouth are so weird and funny, I had to reread them a couple of times. Like when he calls Memphis a walking sex on a stick cum drainer...I’m definitely stealing that! 😂
And Memphis is just so sweet. He really tried to stay away from Tristan because of their shared pasts, but you could feel the pull between the two of them. Once Memphis gives in, you’re just consumed with their connection, love, and compassion. Memphis loves all of Tristan’s weirdness so much, it’s so lovely to see! Embrace your weird, and find someone who loves all parts of you!!!
A beautiful love story and one of my favorite couples I have ever read. Only wish I could keep reading about these two!
Unfortunately, this is the last book in this college football series. Tristan and Memphis are a lot of fun, the best kind of opposites attract. With a little bit of a secret past Memphis is keeping hidden, Tristan thinks the guy just doesn’t like him all that much and it causes some pretty feisty confrontations from the emo spitfire.
I loved Tristan’s attitude towards life, he is very much a “don’t mess with my vibe” kinda guy and no one is going to throw him into the gay closet after some unfortunate high school “friends”. He’s loud and brash and I kinda liked it.
Memphis is a little more reserved but he’s kind of adorable and enjoys living a low key life despite what his parents want for him. He really has things cut out for him when his and Tristan’s personalities start colliding.
But their story is sweet too, I love watching opposites find common ground and falling for each other despite their differences.
I’m pretty bummed this series is over tbh, it’s light and full of hot chemistry and I’m going to miss all the sugar land couples.
This is my favorite of all the four (that I’ve read so far and hoping there’s more to come). It has a rom-com feel written all over it with just the right amount of angst. First up, our main MC Memphis the transfer QB (introduced on the second book after Torin left) that holds lot of secrets (no spoilers here). At first, I was feeling a bit lukewarm about his character (because of his attitude towards Tristan, our second MC). I am finally glad that Tristan had his own story and not just Rendon’s sidekick! Tristan is our emo boy who was introduced as Rendon’s roommate and bff in book 3. He is witty as he is a cutie😍. As the book progresses, the secrets all come out (no spoilers here)!!! Oh boy, oh boy!!! A must read…
This was a strange roller coaster for me. It was really good and fast-paced in the beginning, but then it slowed way down. I liked both MCs, yet this was still a struggle for me to get through, probably because I don’t like when secrets are kept. I kept waiting for the secret to come out, and instead what I got was a repetitive rehashing of the secret situation in the one MCs head throughout a significant portion of the book. Then when the secret finally came out, things got rolling again, and it was good, until it suddenly felt like someone slapped a rough erotica story in it. After that, it went back to sweet, but then Tristan acted so immature and unforgiving and I was just done with it all. It all just felt so bizarre, so I skimmed the last little bit that was left.
Memphis and Tristan were so much fun. This book made me laugh the most out of the series which I expected after meeting Tristan in a prior book. He’s such a colorful, lively person and I loved getting to know him more. Seeing what made him vulnerable turn into something that made him strong. Watching Memphis struggle to find his footing and then wholeheartedly embrace his life because love made him stronger was beautiful. Another must read! Now that I binged this series I’ll be moving into another series by the same author. I’m a total fan at this point.
Loved the book, so worth the wait! I laughed, I cried, smiled and got a tad mad at one part, but it worked out, yay! The bantering and sayings coming out of Tristan’s mouth was something else, he was entertaining. Loved him. I loved Memphis too, he was great even though he needed a butt kicking a time or two. ;) Their sexy times were hot! Loved the ending, going to need more of their story though, a short one maybe? Hint wink. It was also nice to get visits from the main characters of the previous books, great surprise.
Tristan and Memphis made up an interesting couple. Not one I would have seen coming. With the emo Tristan was doing and the all American boy that was Memphis playing I wasn't sure how they would work to. But Baylor pulled it off with the couple. I'm glad I went back and read Nana's book first so I could remember all the players for this one. The friends to lover with the closet in the back ground with a good story line. Football player versus snark emo college kid who knew his worth was a good and enjoyable read.
Not the best story. At times confusing and difficult to like the main characters. The first night they meet the chemistry was magic. Memphis kind and supportive. Poor Tristan traumatized. Sixteen months later they reconnect. It seemed to be snark and no chemistry. The best things about this book was the cover and their names. I mean how good is Memphis and Tristan as lead character names?
This book left me with a smile at the end. Tristan was just the funniest and silliest character I’ve read in a while. Those ridiculous names he gave Memphis were 100% funny.
I loved their beginning, not because of what brings them together but how their chemistry was from the very beginning.
The jock and the emo kid, what a combo. I like sports genres and this did not disappoint!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ yes this was everything i needed. memphis and tristan are so meant to be together. their past. their friendship. their connection. bro i can’t. memphis was so in love with tristan. the way he stopped ignoring tristan the second he saw how it was effecting him. the way he risked his family relationship just to chase after tristan. i’m actually obsessed. tristan being so eccentrically himself was hysterical. i loved him so much. they’re my favorite couple of the series💋💋💋

I loved Tristan and Memphis! Tristan was this self-confident, quirky goth guy, while Memphis was the outgoing star quarterback. Their banter was perfection, their story was sweet and Memphis brought all the swoon. I have loved living in this world. I highly recommend this entire series.
Harboring secrets is one of my pet peeves in a book. The readers know only too well that things would blow out of proportion when the final revelation happens. It’s such a cliche.
Having said that, I still scored this high due to the following: a) short, 2) low angst, 3) characters are likeable, 4) I like stories featuring football players as MCs
2.5 I enjoyed this one least out of the series. The premise in itself was alright but the MCs, Tristan in particular were quite juvenile. I found their “chemistry” bordering on annoying , resembling what you’d expect from the stereotypical “pulling the pig tails because you like them” playground behaviour.
This book didn't catch my attention as the first three books did. Tristan as a lead character in this book left me not wanting to finish...I made it to the third chapter before giving up. I have to say, the "opposite attraction" and "twink/jock" storyline has been played too often and has been worn out.
Adorei a dinâmica dos dois, por ter começado no passado. Apesar da parte do segredo existir, no final não foi um grande drama para o Tristan. O drama da história no foi outro e com razão. Tristan super engraçado carregou a história. Acho que esse deve ser o final e ficou em segundo lugar como o melhor da saga
