Great dystopian adventure thriller!

No Good Deed continues the journey of Beck and his new teammates. There are many dangers and a few horrors which confront the group while trying to complete Beck’s mission. I highly recommend this series!

I had to smile at the reference to fictional character Marcus Battle. Beck's daughter had a very clever idea to have a scavenger hunt type of quest to help him find her without directly telling him where she was etc and to ensure it was really Beck that was searching. I enjoyed the included reference to Monty Python-well played! I liked the introduction to Regina, and anyone who knows what Scylla and Charybdis are is OK in my book. The loss of a character was very sad but that is the apocalypse for you. I do think the constant drumbeat of Beck's demons tends to bog down the story. Anyone that had no demons at this point would be an anomaly.
We are left with a cliffhanger, so I look forward to the next book.

Wow! This series just keeps getting better and this is only book 2. I thought the first book was great (and it is), but this one is even better. John Beck's character is revealed much more in this book. And you really get attached to him. Will he find Millie or will it just be one obstacle after another? The characters he finds along his journey are also major players. The atmosphere and environment are very well described and believable. There is at least one heart-breaking moment but I guess it can't be avoided. The ending (of this book) blew me away. Not what I expected at all. Very anxious to see how it pans out in book 3, which I've pre-ordered. Highly recommended!

John Beck - a hero for the post-D-Day America

Beck has scorched the earth looking for his daughter and the man who took her and killed his wife. From the burning hulk of an offshore oil platform, through the wilds of Texas, slowly adding to his party along the way, Beck has increased his fame. There's even comic adventure books about him! Great characters, easy to know and like, or hate as it where. Beck carries himself with the surety of righteousness, the bearing of justice, danger in the turn of his lip. The storyline is joy and sorrow, mixed with faith and doubt. I can't wait for the next book!

No Good Deed. Tom Abrahams

John Beck knows and understands the bad as well as the good in people. He's had to kill alot of bad people. But in all fairness, they were trying to kill him. His family, his wife was murdered by one of enemies. His daughter taken. Now he is on a quest to find her. He has a new family with him. Let's say they have adopted each other. This is a remarkable journey laced with revenge, friendship and a willingness to fight and die. An excellent read in this series!! Enjoyed immensely!!

Another fine story by a master

This is book 2 in the Crusader series. Most series seem to set bogged down as the author pads the story to make the books longer. That is not the case with this author. But again it may be padding but it is enjoyable reading.
At any rate the story is entertaining with good characters. He even kills off good characters so you never really know which direction the story will go. Now to start on book 3 of the series.

Your world as you know it is gone and every person you meet is potentially a life or death situation. Surviving the best way he can, John Beck is still trying to find his daughter at any cost. This is a well written and very engaging story with action and tension that keeps you turning the pages.
Extremely enjoyable audio narration that really brings each character and the story to life. I can't wait for the next one!!!

Enjoyable Read

I have read ALL of Tom Abrahams' books. This series is so much different from his others. It seems to be leaning toward YA. Which is great because it introduces them to genre.

Enjoyed book two. Already have Book 3 waiting for me. Definitely recommend this series. Very entertaining.

A good ending for this story (and we finally meet Millie).

Beck continues his crusade, and finally meets Millie again, but not in the way he thinks he will. At the moment he thinks all is lost, he has his greatest surprise, and partial victory. It turns out Leo was lying about where the three women he was traveling with were being kept, and now we start another adventure...

Continuing straight after events of book one, John Beck is still searching for his daughter. Could she be in the place that the journey started four years earlier. Having missed her, his journey starts again, as she has left clues for him to find her. Good story, as Beck battles his demons and picks up more people who join his team.

Surprising twist

I have stuff with this long worded storyline until the end and SAS very surprised by the end but it was still a very hard read and hard to keep interest. I am going to continue reading the series in hopes of it beginning to get better thank you for the storyline

A great mid point to a possible great ending

I liked the action and the way the Author brought forth the content of the novel. I recommend to all who are interested in a emp. I look forward to the next 2 issues.

really close to a 3.5 but it didn’t quite make it there.

At first the story line was very consistent. A followed B to C. Then it meandered a bit and didn’t keep the facts flowing in a straight line. If I give examples they’ll be spoilers and I don’t like spoilers.

No Good Deed

John Beck, the legend, and his “merry” band of travelers continue on their quest to find his daughter Millie. Of course, there are more dangers to deal with en route. Will he ever find Millie?

Amazing story and I’ve finished the first 3 audio books! No I hear there’s a boom 4! Got to get that one soon! Kevin Pierce is the best narrator ever! Absolutely love him. Love the story and love the Sheriff! I did figure out who it was. I need people like this in my life! Ones who fight for good!

Price to pay

The problems that are conveyed throughout the story are so realistic to what could possibly happen through our society. The author did a great job.

Simple but a lot of fun. Comfort food for the post-apocalypse. (I actually enjoyed this one much more than the first in this series.) I'll definitely continue to the next in the series.

Wow

The series is getting better and better. Read book one non stop last night, just completed book two non stop, downloading book three next. So very fast paced, not really realistic in so many ways (how'd you feed the horses?) Just ignore the little details and enjoy the action!

One Of The Best Abrahams Books To Date

I will say upfront, this will be a hard review to write. Not because it was a bad book. Not even close, this book was amazing. But… it’s going to be hard to talk about the different things that happened (especially one BIG thing) without spoiling it. So, I’ll have to tip-toe around some of the topics I usually cover.

No Good Deed starts off where the last book left off, no surprise there. Abrahams jumps right into it – not giving me time to prepare for the onslaught of action throughout this one. Abrahams is able to write these details and scenes where lots of things happen with such ease. There was a scene where they were near train tracks, then some things happened, then some more things, then more things, and writing it (without the details) makes it sound confusing but it was just action, boom, boom, boom. Then emotion “oh god, did that really happen”. Then more emotion as I reacted to how the characters were feeling. Then a “whoa, wait, really?” moment. Then some more “wtf”. I write this and am very vague with it but the funny part is that if I didn’t say train tracks – it describes like 2-3 moments in the book. And each time I was sitting here with bated breath trying to figure out what was going to happen and who was going to make it out alive.

I’ve read the entire Traveler series – I know how Abrahams’s series go and he STILL surprises me. More than ten books later, each one has its own flair and its own feeling/emotion that it gets me every time. I will say that where Battle was a damaged human, Beck is even more damaged but he’s still likable. Numerous times throughout No Good Deed he would ask the people he was traveling with their opinion, to which they’d usually reply with his quote of “you said this isn’t a Democracy”. But it was never said with malice. It was just stating a fact. Also, the “demons” as he calls them are really interesting. Especially when they pop their heads up at interesting moments in the book (I’m looking at you, scene-where-they-could-smell-a-specific-smell).

I have LOTS I want to talk about and a lot of things I can’t. But I will say that the scenes where Beck is described always cracked me up. The different tales that were woven about him and his reactions to them. BUT the scene that stands out to me that I can talk about without spoiling anything was the interaction between Beck and two other guys. Beck was trying to smile (which he admits he doesn’t know how to do) and they looked at him and asked what he was doing… I won’t spoil the entire bit but it was a really nice comedic break in an otherwise heavy book.

Overall, No Good Deed was excellent. I have a hard time saying this but it might be one of my favorite books from him. It had all of the things I liked about Battle/Traveler and added in a lot more. There were just so many different things, scenes, emotions that the Traveler was missing being a lone-wolf – that Beck (while also a lone wolf) has. Okay, enough gushing – you can tell I liked the book a lot. I’m just happy that it went the way I expected while still surprising me and leaving me with an “I HAVE TO READ THE NEXT ONE” feeling.

Oh, and with all good Abrahams books – there are lots of different callouts and inside jokes related to his own other books and books written by his friends and colleagues. I know that Franklin Horton was mentioned, Battle I believe was mentioned again, and I think I remember Konkoly being mentioned as well. (Just went back to the Kindle edition and confirmed all of them were mentioned). It’s just a nice little wink that he gives to himself and others that always makes me smile. And I’m always on the lookout for more.
