How do you know if you’ve found Mr Perfect or Mr Perfectly Useless? Jess Willersey realised things with Martin weren’t perfect, but it’s still a shock when he leaves. Is she destined to a singleton lifestyle with only her cat for company, or could a certain hat-astrophic encounter with a handsome stranger at a rather unusual wedding signal a turning point? At the same time, Jess’s best friends and work colleagues, Maggie and Sarah, are going through their own personal disasters – from shocking family revelations to dodgy dating app-related drama. To top it all off, it seems that the handsome stranger won’t remain a stranger – and when Neil Jackson turns up at the friends’ offices with yet another bombshell, how long will he stay ‘Mr Perfect’ in Jess’s eyes?
Jess Willersey works in an office for Anymoore Ltd with Maggie and Sarah, but would really love to be a photographer. When she gets her first job photographing a steampunk wedding, she also encounters a rather gorgeous man. But will they meet again? And what will happen?
This is a romance, a rom com, book and has the elements you would expect with a very likeable heroine going through a bad time romantically. But this book also lets us follow the journeys of Maggie and Sarah too, who are all at different stages in their quest for love. Jess is recently single, Maggie has been single for years and Sarah has plenty of boyfriend offers but none of them are right. I really enjoyed this aspect of the book and felt I really knew each of the women and cared about what happened to them.
I also loved the way the animals are written in the novel - Jess’s cat and particularly Neil’s dog Dudley who deserves his own novel, he’s such a great character!
The book is well-written and easy to read, because it never loses its pace and you want to find out what happens. The characters are believable, you want the good ones to find love and happiness, and the bad ones to get their just desserts.
A really fun and satisfying read that I would definitely recommend.
The second book by Anni Rose has landed and it’s another doozy!!
I loved, loved, loved the first book; Recipe for Mr Right, there was so much ‘Right’ about that book, I had pretty high expectations when I started reading this one and I am so pleased that it didn’t disappoint; when there was so much right about that book, there is so much that is Perfect about this one.
I was giggling over that tag line ‘How do you know if you’ve found Mr Perfect or Mr Perfectly Useless?’ it caught my attention before I read the entire back blurb and I still laugh at it now, it suits the story perfectly.
This revolves around the lives of three relatable and down-to-earth women; Jess, Maggie and Sarah, moderately friends and colleagues, they have spent their working lives side by side and yet their personal lives have always been private until fate intervenes and they soon find solace and friendship which will last a lifetime with the women they have been sitting side by side with for years.
Maggie has just lost her mother, Sarah is a bit like Bridget Jones and is on the lookout for Mr Right – as with Briget Jones all Sarah seems to attract is the ‘Danial’s of the world instead of the Darcy’s, and Jess has just been ditched by her long term boyfriend after he up and finds another woman- the snake!
I loved following each woman and getting to know them, they each bring something to the story. Because of their own personal drama’s they start to bond and soon a solid made for life friendship is sealed and cemented in place. Even though this is all about friendship, we can’t forget that there is also a romance too and that comes in the shape of adorable Niel who shows up turning everything on its head with another bombshell.
Can these wonderful women get a break, please? I loved the progression of the story, and their friendship, it has a beautiful message that no matter what life’s hand deals you with good friends you can face anything.
This book is such a dream to read, it’s an absolute delight, the pacing is a little on the slow side, to begin with, but soon picks up, I loved the narrative between the women and I loved the ending it was very fitting.
Recipe for Mr Perfect is charming, it’s delightfully funny and utterly romantic, a winner in every way!
Easy reading. Anni Rose has followed her first book Recipe for Mr Right with Recipe for Mr Perfect, both worthy of 5* rating.
Three women, Maggie, Jess and Sarah, although spending years working closely together in an account's office of a small family business, have generally kept their personal lives private.
Suddenly each woman experiences a dramatic change in her home life. Maggie is grieving after the death of her mother. Jess Willersey's long term partner Martin, unexpectedly leaves her for another woman. And Sarah, who's searching for Mr Right, once again discovers she's dating Mr Couldn't Be Worse.
Their individual crises brings them together and they form a close friendship, each encouraging or even persuading each other to achieve their dream.
This is a delightful romantic comedy about three women who find love where they least expected.
Just like Recipe for Mr Right (set in the same town but, as far as we know, the characters have never met, so reading order really doesn't matter), this new story has all the ingredients for a perfect romantic comedy. Out of three work colleagues/friends, only Sarah is actively looking for a Mr Perfect, but Jess meets hers by chance in funny circonstances, and Maggie may be in her 60s and convinced no man could compare to the one she lost years ago, but who said there was only one perfect recipe? I greatly enjoyed following all three women, as well as Neil (Jess's Mr Perfect) in the alternating points of view that tell us all about the ups and downs of their respective work and personal lives.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Charming, engaging and so enjoyable, Anni Rose’s Recipe for Mr Perfect is a delightful romantic comedy Katie Fforde and Milly Johnson fans will love.
Jess and Martin’s relationship is not exactly perfect and they will never give Lizzie and Darcy a run for their money, but despite all their ups and downs and the fact that Martin can be so aggravating and infuriating, Jess is flabbergasted when he leaves. With only her cat for company, Jess cannot help but wonder whether she will spend the rest of her life as a singleton or whether Mr Right is just around the corner waiting to sweep her off her feet. Will an unexpected encounter at a wedding with a handsome stranger be the start of a wonderful relationship? Or should Jess look into getting more cats?
It isn’t just Jess who seems to be lurching from one disaster to another. Her best friends and work colleagues Maggie and Sarah have got their own dilemmas to deal with. Shocking family revelations come to light that turn their whole world upside down – not to mention dodgy dating dramas and relationship woes. The three friends don’t know how much more they can cope with – until the handsome stranger strides through the door of their office with another bombshell!
Is Neil Jackson as perfect as he seems? Will Jess, Maggie and Sarah ever find the happiness they seek? Or will the only companions in their future be in feline form?
Anni Rose’s Recipe for Mr Perfect is a heartfelt and uplifting tale that is simply irresistible. Anni Rose writes with plenty of wit, humour and warmth and readers will find themselves immediately drawn in into the world she so exquisitely creates.
With adorable characters, laugh out loud moments, poignant romance and absorbing emotional drama, Anni Rose has all the ingredients in place for a delicious treat that will have readers asking for seconds with her latest romantic comedy, Recipe for Mr Right.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Well, this was a very engaging story. It’s told from the points of view of several characters and I must admit that it did take me a while to get my head around who was who at first. However, once I had the characters established in my mind, I was engrossed in the story.
Jess is the main character. She’s an accountant and good friends with Sarah and Maggie who work in the same company. All three have quite a lot going on in their lives from love life disasters, to bereavement, to family revelations. Plus there’s the intrigue of some rather underhand company dealings going on which will affect them all. Neil comes into Jess’s life at a wedding and the two hit it off immediately, but there is plenty which make their path to happiness look very unlikely.
It’s not that all of the women are looking for Mr Perfect but as is often the way, Mr Perfect turns up when you are least expecting him and that was a pleasure to read about. I think for me, Maggie’s romance was perhaps the most touching simply because of the circumstances it happens in. Friendship and support between female characters is something I always enjoy in a novel and with three strong women at the heart of the story, I certainly found plenty of that to enjoy in this book.
Recipe for Mr Perfect is a really uplifting read, one that will have you smiling warmly on more than one occasion and cheering the main characters on. There’s plenty drama, quite a few thought-provoking scenes and lots of emotion. The love lives of the three characters prove that there’s not just one Recipe for Mr Perfect. With a dash of humour, a pinch of hope and a healthy dollop of romance, Anni Rose has cooked up a delectable story!
Thank you Love Books Tour, Anni Rose, & Choc Lit UK for my gifted copy in return for my honest review.
In this heart-warming and witty romance, you get a wonderful glimpse into friendships and unexpected love. The focus is mainly on Jess as she navigates through one disaster after another, starting with her boyfriend of 12 years, Martin, walking out on her. Fortunately or unfortunately, Jess’s friends and co-workers, Sarah & Maggie, seem to be dealing with their own disasters, which gives them all someone to count on.
Sarah seems to have no luck in love and dating apps provide comical setbacks in her love life. Maggie deals with the loss of her mother and unexpected family news. To think things couldn’t get worse, a handsome stranger, Neil, walks into their office and the course for them all begins to change. Will any of them survive the disasters and actually find Mr. Perfect long the way?
One thing I loved about this book is that the main characters were relatable in age. So many rom coms have young women set out to find love. With these women in their 30s (and older), I could actually relate to their dating woes and understand the ups and downs. I wish more authors had the main characters a bit older! And honestly my favorite character was definitely Maggie. Being the oldest of the trio, she certainly had one of the more difficult roads, but I loved how much she changed and really seemed to open up throughout the book.
I'm going to start by saying that this book is cute, heart-warming, and so damn satisfying. If you need something to lift your mood, you must definitely read Recipe for Mr Perfect by Anni Rose.
The author seems to have followed the recipe for writing a perfect romcom. To a T. The story does feel familiar, but that's one of the reasons I enjoyed this book a little more- I could relax into the story knowing that we would eventually get a happily ever after from it. The story moves at a steady pace, the writing is engaging, it’s a book that any fan of romantic comedies would enjoy.
I liked the authentic depiction of female friendship in this book. We get to witness Jess, Maggie, and Sarah's relationship grow from that of office colleagues to best friends. The way they rely on each other for support, and the bond they share was just so pleasing to read about. Also, it has the most adorable pet. Forget Mr.Perfect, his dog, Dudley, won me over.
I truly love a book which allows us to be hopeful that no matter how broken and miserable we are, there is a Mr.Perfect out there for us- and that’s exactly what Recipe for Mr Perfect did for me. It is a cute, quick read that’s too good to pass up.
A story of love, friendships and career changes Jess is an accountant at Anymoore Ltd but is also a part-time photographer. She’s taking pictures at a wedding & is attracted to Neil (a consultant) who is attending another wedding at the registry office. Jess is living with Martin but he’s treated her badly for ages & he decides to leave her. Alas, it’s not the last we hear from him. Sarah works with Jess. She has a disastrous dating history & is hoping this time will be different. She’s nervous about the prospect of finally sleeping with Ryan after date number seven. Unfortunately, it all goes wrong when his other girlfriend shows up at the restaurant. Maggie is their other colleague in the accounts department. She lives on her own and her mother has just passed away in a care home. I loved the camaraderie between the three women and that they support each other. I also liked Dudley the dog and General Gordon the cat & it was nice that they had essential roles as well. This book was very well written. It made me laugh out loud several times especially near the end (two words – scout hut). I highly recommend this fabulous book.
Recipe for Mr Perfect by Anni Rose If you want to read an uplifting book about love and friendship, this is the book for you. The story follows three great friends as they navigate what life throws at them. They seem unlikely friends but having worked together for some time they really know each other well and as the story unfolds the true depth of their friendship is revealed. All three women are ultimately looking for companionship and that doesn't come easily. The author has thrown in many real life events that just show the strength we as humans have as as the saying goes, it doesn't rain it pours. I enjoyed the characters and their realness. The situations they found themselves in were true to character and I loved how much they cared for each other. It was a really heartwarming story of friendship and all kinds of love.
What a way to build up a back story and introduce characters. Loved these two bold weddings and their outrageous ways and the wedding parties guests. Super fan of the electric blue bridesmaids wearing doc martens. Sounds awesome. Everything was so real so now and so true.
Relationships as they are now are not what they’re used to and you do feel sorry for Jess but really when her friends say how much of a douche Martin is your glad she’s single and she can start the adventure of finding someone she deserves. I loved the moments when you think yes I do that. When you get ready for a date, or your cat playing dead. There was a few laugh out loud moments.
I loved how the author has the focus on Jess but brings in her friends lifestyle and dramas too. So you get a three way story built into one overall huge story. Loved that.
For a rom com this was lush. I loved how Neil and Jess meet again. I so desperately want to read Recipe for Mr Right now.
This book was a super sweet story that essentially revolves around three female friends and their different paths to finding love. I particularly enjoyed the friendship between the three women and their interactions with each other. It was great to read about such strong friendships in the workplace.
I definitely found myself relating with the main character -Jess- I also have an accounting degree, but have always enjoyed photography, so I found myself rooting for her throughout the story as she faced different decisions.
This story is told from multiple viewpoints, so it did take me a little while at different points to catch up with whose viewpoint I was reading. But at the end all the different viewpoints came together nicely and wrapped up in a cozy, cute HEA ending.
Thank you to the author for providing me a copy of this book to read & review!
I usually spend October doing all things spooky; movies, books, podcasts. So this was a total palette cleanser for me and I didn’t realise just how much I needed it. This book has its twists and you really root for the accounts department made up of Jess, Maggie and Sarah. I loved that all the women in the group were different ages but still made the greatest group of friends. I found myself wanting all the good things to happen to them.
The characters are written brilliantly with the right amount of flaws and positive spots that they’re ‘real’.
I highly recommend this for the darker nights that are rolling in. Grab a warm drink, a blanket, your favourite snack and delve in.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Love Books Tours for the copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This is a great story with many lovely ingredients. The friends, the hero, the animals, the situations, the skulduggery and as if this is not enough, the romance! All carefully combined to make a treat. Work is a major part of our lives, like it or not, and a story where the work relationships are important makes a refreshing change. All the characters are juggling their responsibilities with greater or lesser success and as you read you will be supporting them 100%-well, mostly but saying anymore would give away too much. So if you are planning some reading time "Recipe for Mr Perfect" would indeed be perfect!
This was a wonderful story of true friendship and romance. The story tied together the three workmates and their friendship in an intriguing manner. Although they have totally different personalities they support and help each other. I loved how the stories were blended together and a great romantic link as well. I read this way too far into the night as I wanted to know what would happen next. If you buy this, please don't blame me for a long read of an unputdownable book!
Loved this book! Such a fab Rom Com and hit the spot after reading a few heavy books. Following the story of Jess who spilts from her boyfriend, only to find her friends never really liked him! The author is clever to bring in the back stories of Jess' friends to - so you get 3 stories in one. I laughed and lived every page......willing Jess' life to turn around for the better......
I had really enjoyed this author’s first novel and so was looking forward to her next novel - I was certainly not disappointed! Great characters, some unexpected twists and a fun story! Highly recommend!
This book was heartwarming and humourous. I loved the characterisation of our three main ladies and I was truly rooting for their stories. Really well-written with plenty of humour thrown in for good measure! A fabulous read for an autumn evening.
Recipe for mr perfect by @anniroseauthor ⭐️ 7.5/10 ⭐️ Jess realised things with Martin weren’t perfect, but it’s still a shock when he leaves. Is she destined to a singleton lifestyle with only her cat for company, or could a certain hat-astrophic encounter with a handsome stranger at a rather unusual wedding signal a turning point? At the same time, Jess’s best friends, Maggie and Sarah, are going through their own personal disasters – from shocking family revelations to dodgy dating app-related drama. To top it all off, it seems that the handsome stranger won’t remain a stranger – and when Neil turns up at the friends’ offices with yet another bombshell, how long will he stay ‘Mr Perfect’ in Jess’s eyes? Classic romance story using the tried and tested boy meets girl-terrible misunderstanding-all resolved happily plot but it’s a classic as it works! Nicely written with a few laugh out loud moments and, like with Disney, a safe feeling that you just KNOW its going to be a happily ever after ending! Love the side characters (actually more than the main one) and it’s refreshing to have lovable, multifaceted side characters and interesting side plots rather than focused just on the main character as so many other romance books do. If you’re looking for an easy, happy read this is the one for you!
I was really looking forward to getting started with this, as it is exactly the genre of book I love getting to devour, however I just didn’t get that feeling at all whilst reading this! I found myself struggling to read it at first, I would say the first 30% for me was a real struggle! I think a lot to do with was the layout of the book! Now I down know whether it was just my copy but I really hated the fact that the characters POV kept changing constantly without any warning, and sometimes I was even confused for the first couple of lines who’s POV I was reading. The second half of the book definitely got a lot better, I found that the story flowed much better. I really loved the relationship between the three main characters, their bond really shone throughout the book. One think I really didn’t enjoy was the amount of ‘business’ talk that there was; don’t know whether it was just me but I found it a little hard to understand and follow. I really do love it when animals are made to feel like an additional character and I must say the author did a brilliant job at this with Dudley (he was my favourite)! I would have loved a little epilogue to find out a bit about what happens next but overall and a good story just the layout let it down for me.
I love a good bit of chic-lit and this is described as choc-lit. Where the book boyfriends are melt in your mouth sweethearts. This certainly gave you that though I may have fallen harder for Dudley the dog than his owner but it was pretty hard not to. Your typical boy meets girl, big misunderstanding, girl and boy act like plonkers then get their acts together for a happy ending. It may be predictable but I love it. There's a reason I keep coming back to this genre. I will be honest, I don't totally understand the relevance of the book title on this one. Certainly food was mentioned a lot (usually by Neil) but cooking wasn't integral to either Neil or Jess. Book titles usually relate to the story in some way but I can't see it in this one. It doesn't detract from the story at all, just something I felt. I really liked the secondary characters and their sub-plots. They really gave the story some extra warmth. Really well written, kept me hooked, I'd definitely read more by this author.
This was another fabulous read from Anni Rose, and I loved how it followed different characters dealing with their own problems, as well as helping one another through troubled times! Really supportive group and Jess, Maggie and Sarah show how strength in numbers can help out when you're really going through things.
Jess is dealing with her split from Martin - it all happened suddenly but it really didn't surprise her, and she's even enjoying her own company for a change! Sarah is looking for love and always sees the good in people, which doesn't help her dating life when the blokes are numpties!! And Maggie has having to deal with grief, after losing her mother to dementia and having the support of friends is more needed than ever.
This is a book that made me laugh and cry - it has those moments that put a smile on your face with the good that life throws your way, alongside the harder times that you have to deal with and appreciate the support offered, even if you don't always want to accept it!
I was looking for something light as a change from the mystery series I'd recently finished and this was certainly light.
The first half flitted about all over the place, so much so that I found it difficult to get a hold on which character was which and where they fitted in. It would have been easier if when the scene changed from one set of characters to another, in a completely different place, there had at least been an obvious break on the page - some authors put in a line of three dots. As it is I had to keep re-reading lines before I realised they had no connection to what had gone before. When I got about 80% through the book things started to make sense and to happen and I was glad that I had persevered with it.
I wasn’t sure about this one to begin with, until I started to get into the story and interested in how things were going, then I was hooked and really rather enjoyed it – though I was desperate to get to the end for it to work out how I wanted and be happy! The villain didn’t quite get enough come uppance for me! There are a few clever, imaginative and original (to me) little quotables – one in particular springs to mind ‘her heart took refuge in her shoes’. I love things like this that really paint a picture in my mind. It is certainly worth a solid 4 star rating for me.
I really needed this romance in my life right now! I love how easy is to read. There’s a happy atmosphere to it and it lighted my day whenever I read it! The characters are also interesting and I love that Maggie and Sarah bring their own bit of drama and twist to the story. Neil is also super cool. All in all, this is a perfect book light up the day this autumn. * Free copy received as part of Love Books Tour
This book made me chuckle, laugh and cry! Loved all the characters. I like the way everything is so like real life - all things in the book really do happen! I like how Anni writes, with a proper beginning, middle and end. I could follow the story easily. It wasn't too predictable (although we all know it will have a happy ending!). I fond Rose's funeral really moving. Can't wait for book 3 (and 4, 5, 6 and more!).
The story revolves around Sarah, Jess and Maggie who are colleagues and friends and the ups and downs of their dating lives. I liked how each woman was different in personality and their approach to dating, how they band together to pull each other through their company’s hostile take over from one of the most odious men ever, who just happens to be Jess’ ex.
If you want a charming, easy to read, nice story definitely check this one out. Perfect to read now the evening’s are drawing in and it’s cold out.
It took me a bit to get into the story for the first half of the book but the second half more than made up for it. I had to get used to the character changes, and try to keep up with who was speaking. I loved the way their various story lines came together. I liked this book very much.
