Death couldn't keep him away...

Saint DuCane is exposed to a vampire hybrid virus. He has a choice, let it destroy him or take an experimental cure that could kill him. As much as he wants to live to be with Harley, there's no guarantee the cure will even work. While not dead yet, Saint will be soon.

Nineteen months ago, Harley Brennan was told the love of his life died during his final mission while working for a mysterious government group. Harley gets the two biggest shocks of his life at once: an inhuman monster attacks him, and he's saved...by his dead lover.

Carrie Davis crafts contemporary gay male romance with plenty of angst, but her men always get their happily ever after.

She lives in Florida, where it’s needlessly hot and the mosquitoes are the size of hummingbirds.

She requires caffeine to be a reasonably functional adult. Yes, reasonably functional is as good as it gets.

Carrie might have a small addiction to buying books, so if she's not writing, she's reading, and when she's not reading, she is happily spoiling her nephews, Zachary and Isaiah, and her dog, Remington.

Saint and Harley's Story . . .

While on a final secret mission for the Freedom Defense Agency, Saint DuCane was captured and injected with a mixture of drugs, including a hybrid vampire virus that induces vampirism. He felt the changes slowly taking effect, not immediately changing him as expected, but they would gradually take him to a state of madness. The medical personnel and scientists were researching a cure, but nothing was definite.

They told Harley Brennan that Saint had died, and for 19 months he still didn’t believe it. He went for a walk on the beach but, on the walk back home, he felt he was being watched. Something he couldn’t see slammed into him and a heavy weight pressed him into the ground. He looked into the face of a monster. The creature had super strength and Harley was at its mercy. Then suddenly Harley thought he heard Saint’s voice right before the weight on him disappeared. Dunn Maverick, Saint’s boss, was running down the beach toward him. And the creature was crouched on the ground with a darkly clad hooded figure standing over it, and as he shot the crossbow arrow into the creature, it vanished. And a soft voice whispered, “Harley,” as the hood was lowered and he saw Saint and sank to the ground, unconscious.

When he found Saint was still alive, although not the same, he hardly dared hope. Saint told him what happened. With only a possible 20% chance for a cure, will they try to save him? Or is it too late?

A great premise, some well written characters, and an obvious love give this story a great foundation. Unfortunately, though, it needed so much more content! I guess if I’m going to criticize a book, saying I wanted more is probably the best way to do it.

Don’t get me wrong, the story was complete. But the buildup at the beginning was very one sided, and there was an opportunity to add some content to the other part of the story and it was missed. And the ending was very rushed, in a way that felt unrealistic and a little too staged.

Would love to see this author eventually flesh out this book. There’s a ton of potential to explore, and her writing style is really engaging.

I loved this book. I loved Harley and Saint. You can really feel the love between them, even after being apart for two years. Their emotion at their reunion was heartfelt and I felt such warmth and hope for them as a couple- even with the odds working against them. While on a secret mission, Saint was captured and injected with a mix of drugs and a virus that causes vampirism and turns people into monsters. While the change didn't happen right away, it was slowly taking Saint over. Once it did, he would succumb to the madness and need to be killed in order to protect everyone around him. There were doctors and scientists working to find a cure but the chances are slim. Is there any hope for Saint to be saved, or will Harley lose the love of his life twice? 4 stars.

What a tragic story...so much sadness but we get a little bit of hope thrown in...then more sadness but there is a satisfying ending. As a reader you go through a rollercoaster of emotions. Harley and Saint really have that true love going on and when tragic circumstances pull them apart, you feel Harley's pain...deep. So when he gets a somewhat second chance with Saint...you will be rooting for their happy ending. There is a little paranormal but to me that element is just a little part of the overall theme. This was heartbreaking but also a sweet romance that shows that love and faith is powerful...Nice!

I loved this sweet, emotional, heart-breaking PNR love story. Harley and Saint love each other, and they are perfect together, until Saint is killed while on a secret mission...or is he? Harley never believed it, even after a year and a half goes by. Then he is rescued from a vicious attack by...Saint! All is not well, however, as Saint is infected by a virus that will eventually drive him mad and turn him into a monster. Is there no hope for a cure? Will Harley lose his love twice? Fantastic story with all the feels.

When Saint and Harley met it was love instantly! Two months later Harley moved in with Saint but Saint worked for the FDA doing whatever mission they sent him on. But he wanted out had to be talked into doing the last mission where him and his were captured and tested on. Harley always claimed that Saint was alive he was told most of what Saint went through after killing one the monsters that he would become. Dunn told Harley that Saint might have two weeks before the monster took over and let them have that. A cure was found and saved Saint! Good book!

Ms. Carrie is back with another great PNR. I thought that this was a great book. I loved Saint and Harley together. These two hit it off perfectly but Saint's job took him away from Harley. Even though Harley was told that Saint was gone, Harley never gave up hope that Saint was still alive. Death can' keep true love apart! I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it and Ms. Carrie as must read author.

Harley and Saint fell in love and then Harley was told that Saint had died. But a part of him did not believe that Saint was gone and it turned out that he was right. Saint was not dead...yet. But the job that took him away from Harley also jeopardized his life and he is in need of a cure to keep final death at bay. I liked these two and the hope that kept them believing that Saint would not fully turn but be saved so they could be together.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. The story is very good and quite emotional. Harley has been grieving for Saint for two years. However hope lives when Saint saves his life on the beach. Saint is not dead yet but he was injected with a virus on his last mission and it is turning him into a monster which has to be killed. A possible cure is found but it only has a slight chance of working. The best news happens and they can have a life together.

Loved this story it’s a fantastic nail biting read and I definitely recommend this book/ series.

Harley & Saint

Quick read about a love that cannot be broken, even in death. Harley’s grief is all consuming. Saint coming back to Harley is nothing short of a miracle but the complications that come with it could lead to heartbreak again. The author described their love for each other so beautifully.

Harley is told that his partner Saint is dead but something inside him is telling him that Saint is alive. Saint is changing in to something dangerous and knows it is better if Harley thinks he's dead. I really enjoyed this book.
