Favorite Quotes:

He handed me one of the two to-go cups of coffee he held. “I got it like you like your men… Blond roast with cream and sugar,” he said before turning sharply and heading to the bus.

He blinked slowly and yawned so big I could see a filling in his molar.

You’re doing it again... Looking at me like I’m a fluffy bunny you want to take home and feed carrots to.

My Review:

Sizzle and snap, I was about to call the fire marshal for fear my Kindle would detonate. Holy smokes, these two sexy hunks did a bang-up job of keeping me entertained with smirks in ample supply while steaming up my tablet with their fledgling love affair. The storylines were active, easy to follow, witty, insightfully penned, and flowed at a steady pace with a likable, endearing, and realistically flawed cast of characters. This was a quick, tasty, and satisfying amuse-bouche to keep the appetites whetted for more to come.

Hopelessly Devoted by Piper Sheldon

‘My heart hammered out of control. I dropped my forehead to his, searching his eyes. My whole body shook. I couldn’t do this. I couldn’t look at him and do this. I felt too much. He opened his mouth to speak but I kissed him again. I closed my eyes against the pain breaking my heart. It couldn’t be hurting this bad. It was too soon for this to hurt so fucking bad while feeling so good. So right. We fit so perfect together.’

Piper Sheldon is a literary chameleon. A spellweaver who manages to enchant, entice and excite readers with her array of diverse characters and storylines and this SWS novella is no different. Admittedly I pre-judged it thinking it was going to be a fairly light-hearted and straightforward MM romance, just with Piper’s usual phenomenal writing skills attached. I knew it was going to be good but I’m not sure I was prepared for just how absolutely mesmerizing this story turned out to be.

One thing that I definitely took away from reading this book- Piper Sheldon’s writing has evolved and blossomed to the point of genius for me. She understands people. Not only understands but connects, bonds and reflects on everything that makes us who we are. She champions the underdogs, the outcasts, those who see themselves as broken and the lonely, offering them up their deserved happy-ever-after and she does it with this awe-inspiring talent where she blurs the lines between fact and fiction. For a few chapters you forget that what you’re reading and who you’re reading about, aren’t real.

Jack and William’s characters were beautifully laid out, exposed, flawed, agonisingly real. Full of conflicting thoughts and emotions, they were truly amazing characters to read and fall in love with because of those exposed layers. Watching those two dance around one another, bantering together and experiencing the intense heat everytime they drew close to one another, made for some pretty substantial scenes.

I’m a huge fan of the old ‘only one bed’ trope, so imagine my excitement and anticipation when a scene rolled around where there seemed to be only one tent. Piper Sheldon did not disappoint. Truly exhilarating writing that kept the tone full of passion and seduction rather than feeling gratuitous.

I adored how William connected with the kids, how he talked to them and how Jack connected with William because of that. There was just so much power in this book. The power of forgiveness, of letting go, of trusting, and of course that great eighties ballad, the power of love. Piper Sheldon managed to convey it all and do so with two of her best personalities to date, in Jack and William.

Hopelessly Devoted is an exceptionally well written and inspirational MM love story. It is as emotionally stirring and provoking as it is arousing and alluring, running the gamut of emotions from despair to isolation, right through to playful and loving and everything in-between.

The dialogue is superb, witty, playful, intelligent and oftentimes poignant, profound and so startlingly beautiful.

Another remarkable love story from author Piper Sheldon.

Ever since reading about Skip and Jack in You’re the One that I Want, I’ve wanted their story. Finally getting insight into all the longing looks was delightful. This short story is long on romance and feelings… and steam. What’s a terrific ending for Skip and Jack, too, opening up their hearts and home for the less fortunate. I loved it.

Words can not express my excitement for this novella!!! I’ve been on Team Skip & Jack (ship name Skack? Jip?) from the beginning!!! Seriously, this little book packs in a lot of steam and sexiness! I loved getting to know Jack and Skip a little better. Piper Sheldon’s books are like your favorite hoodie…so perfect, so comfortable, just makes you feel great every time. Piper Sheldon, melt my heart why don't ya...

Hopelessly Devoted is a lovely, beautiful, and gooey story that you will probably read in one sitting.

This novella tells the story of Skip, featured in the third book of the Scorned Women's Society - The One that I Want. He's pretty sure he's in love with his best friend. Maybe. But he knows that they are bonded for life, and when he goes down to Green Valley to make sure he doesn't go off the rails, he actually meets the one meant for him - Jack.

This tall and interesting man seems like the perfect companion, but Skip has to figure out what he wants before diving into new waters.

Jack, is smitten. But he's had his share of trouble and rejection. Is it worth leaving it all behind for this fascinating new guy in his?

Well, you should find out for yourself. But their story is so cute and endearing! I had a smile on my face from beginning to end.

Thank you so much Smartypants Romance for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

(ARC Review) I really really really enjoyed this! I've been waiting for this since The One That I Want released last year when we met Skip. We've also known Jack since the beginning of the series so it was such a treat to get their story!

Skip is only in town to support his best friend and try to convince him to come home. He certainly isn't looking to start anything with Jack, the kind man who helped him during a hard time. When the two are thrown together on a camping trip (with only one tent!) it may be to hard to resist each other for long.

It's emotional, full of flawed characters who are still deserving of love nonetheless. It's also funny, it's steamy, and I wanted to stand on my chair and cheer during a certain scene revolving around the topic of consent.

Definitely recommended for fans of the series! Pick it up in KU

“I couldn’t make him love me. I couldn’t make him stay in Tennessee. But we could have tonight. And when he left, I would try to stay standing.”

Hopelessly Devoted is a standalone MM novella and awesome read on its own but the whole SWS series are great reads and definitely worth just grabbing them all and diving in!!

Oh Piper thank you for giving us Skip and Jacks story. This is a quick novella that takes us on quite a journey with these two wonderfully caring men. Yes is it is a tale of love but it is also surrounded by heartbreak, angst, boat loads of emotion, uncertainty and each one trying to figure out who they really are individually and can they be something more together. I truly loved being on this ride with these characters and enjoyed watching them grow, bloom and finally each put themselves first.

Hopelessly Devoted is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time. You know you have a page turner when you feel the same way the characters feel. William felt alone and i felt the same at that moment. I smiled every time Jack appeared because he has such a beautiful soul you can’t help but like him. Yes. This is a book but in feel like i just got to be a part of a life and became friends with this two very special characters. Piper Sheldon this is my first time reading one of your books and I became and instant fan. I started this book in the morning and I finished it today.

Jack and William are two beautiful people looking for something but not knowing what it is. They are both hurt by their past but one is dark and one is light to they complement each other perfectly. After spending time together they realize they could be happy if they let go.

Absolutely amazing writing and character chemistry is what you get with this beautiful love story.
I can’t wait to read more of this authors books.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Hopelessly Devoted
by Piper Sheldon is an MM romance in her Scorned Women's Society series. I have yet to read the series or anything by Piper Sheldon, but the synopsis' sounded too good for me to pass up, and I'm so glad I didn't. This stood up well as a standalone but made me curious of the secondary characters and I know I'll be going back to read the rest of the series at some point.

"Our mouths acted desperate for the other, like we'd known each other forever and not just a few moments."

Hopelessly Devoted
is well written and some great characters. Jack was simply just fantastic and my favorite of the story. He handled his sh*t, his upbringing was far from perfect, but he didn't let that stop him from making something of himself. He had his heartbroken in the past by someone putting him in second place, and had justified fears of history repeating itself with William. Jack completely deserved to be someone's first and only choice. On the other side, we have William who could not handle his sh*t, who let his less than pleasant upbringing hold him back from doing what he really wanted and instead resulted with him having an unhealthy attached to his best friend Sanders. His obsession over his best friend was frustrating because Sanders didn't seem to do much to deserve it. Therefore, I 100 percent saw where jack was coming from when he pushed him away, because from all angles it looked like William was in love with his best friend. His hot and cold with Jack was also not a high point of the story for me. However, together their sexual chemistry was off the charts and the intimate scenes were very well written. They were great together and helped each other for the better, and I was glad that they were able to work out their fears in order to work together on their future.

"You're doing it again," he grumbled.
"What?"
"Looking at me like I'm a fluffy bunny you want to take home and feed carrots to."

Two other aspects I loved about the book that I want to mention. Firstly, the emphasis on consent and not just consent but willing , coherent, enjoyed consent. In the beginning, Jack knows William isn't in the right state of mind for intimcay even if he did consent and puts a stop to it. That's just one instance, but it's mentioned a few more times in the book in different ways. Secondly, I have to mention the group of misguided teens that they go camping with because that crew but a smile on my face and were definitely a highlight of the story.

Hopelessly Devoted
by Piper Sheldon was a quality mm romance novella. Filled with emotion, care, banter, friendship and a one tent situation that heats up in the best way.

I’m a convert to M/M romance within the last few years. Piper Sheldon has written a romance between two beloved characters that I foresee being a benchmark for me in the future.

Skip/William and Jack are two men who come from similar backgrounds, have similar circumstances but are completely different and yet perfect for each other. I love a good opposites attract romance. When you pair it with a forced proximity? Sign me up yesterday!

I like that this romance isn’t just about finding your person and falling in love, but it’s also about forgiving yourself and finding love from within. Healing, love, and resolution to conflicts often work hand in hand —Hopelessly Devoted shows that friendship and obligation only go so far, but love is a balm that can soothe all wounds.

Have you ever read a book where a side story was so compelling that you needed more?

That is exactly how I felt about Skip and Jack who had a mysterious relationship in The One That I want (book 3 in the SWS series). I love that book but Jack and Skip were major scene stealers and thankfully Piper Sheldon put pen to paper before the readers full on rioted.

It has to be said that this can totally be read as a stand alone but as a fan of the SWS, I was happy with the call backs and cameos we got here.

Jack and Skip’s story starts strong with an unconventional meet cute and lots of sparks. Skip is only in town for a short time so they both know what this is but they sure do pack a lot into a few days. Their story surprised me with how much of an emotional punch it unpacked in the span of a few days with some very high highs and some very low lows. They managed to create longing for more and heartbreak that seemed impossible to overcome and I may have been crying when things were finally all said and done. Skip and Jack worked hard for their love and I am so happy I was able to read their journey.

One of my favorite scenes (and there were a lot) was where Skip had a conversation about “enthusiastic consent”. I found myself immediately in love with that whole speech and wish that more teens and adults were giving similar talks because it wasn’t just about consent, it went further into pleasure and want and I can’t honestly do it justice. Although the speech was in chapter 9, the themes of consent and respect were felt throughout the book.

Thank you Piper for writing this story, it felt honest and fresh and filled in a puzzle piece I was missing.

I'm so glad author Piper Sheldon gave readers this novella to fill us in on Skip and Jack's relationship. During 'The One That I Want,' it was obvious that something had happened/was happening between the two men, and it was so rewarding to get those missing pieces.

While William (a.k.a. Skip) and Jack are two incredibly sweet (and gorgeous and generous) men, their story isn't exactly sweet. It's riddled with pain and heartache. It was wonderful to see these two find their happily ever after.

While this is billed as a novella, it is also a complete story.

I adored Hopelessly Devoted! I’ve read the previous Scorned Women’s Society stories and definitely got the feeling that there was Something going on between these two while Skip was in town.

Jack feels the attraction right away but Skip seems a bit moony over his best friend and business partner, Sanders.

Hopelessly Devoted by Piper Sheldon is a Scorned Women’s Society novella set in the Green Valley Universe. I am normally a novella skeptic because it is hard to build up the right amount of tension in a shorter story but Piper Sheldon brings the heat in this novella! I read this whole thing in one sitting and I cannot wait for more books in this series. The chemistry between Jack and Skip is absolutely off the charts! They are obviously attracted to each other but they also have this soul-deep connection that only comes from having so many shared experiences. Honestly they might be my favorite couple in the whole series! Highly recommend this one, but I do think you should read them in order!

Hopelessly Devoted is a novella set within the Scorned Women Society series by Piper Sheldon, in the Green Valley world of Penny Reid. We’ve met the two leads in previous books in the series, so although you can read it as a stand alone, you really should read the other books in the series and it overlaps the third book in the series, The One That I Want.

This novella is what happens when side characters tell their author they need their own HEA. It also fills in a puzzle piece we were all missing from The One That I Want. There was a lot left unsaid with William (Skip) and Jack and now we have it.

I love this series and I love it even more when a side character I liked from a previous book in a series shows up for their HEA and with Hopelessly Devoted, I got two for the price of one.

It’s a quick read, but it definitely packs a punch of story, humor, and steam (hello, “one bed” trope). You’re gonna be all up in your feels with this.

Also, I gotta add in a slow clap for the “enthusiastic consent” speech Skip gives the Triple F boys because that’s something that should be taught and isn’t. I loved the way he treated the group with respect because they aren’t used to getting it and I really feel it helped Jack connect with him more too.

I can’t wait for more of the SWS. I can’t wait for Gretchen’s HEA!

I was gifted an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was very excited to read this once I realized it was Skip’s story! I loved the meet-cute for Jack and Skip in this story. I loved their romance. The two of them were perfect for each other. They had the similar backgrounds that shaped the type of person they grew up to be, but used that mostly to help others, especially the boys as part of the Triple F group that needed good role models. It was neat to get Sanders and Roxy’s story woven in as small details of this story. While their book, The One That I Want had more of a feel to the musical that line is from, Grease, this story started with a scene that matched the title of this book, also from that same musical. And of course I had to love their cab/Uber driving friend that I’m hoping/assuming the next book in the Scorned Women’s Society book will be about. Her part in this story was perfect.

I don’t read a lot of M/M romances, but I do quite enjoy them when I like the characters as much as I did with this one. And the steamy scenes don’t bother me, but I feel a little as if I’m peeking into someone’s business when I read them. Like since I’m not a gay male I shouldn’t know how their bedroom activities work. But I find myself curious and reading and wanting to understand.

Oh, there was one thing I wondered about. Skip was a stutterer when he was younger, but sometimes he would start to stutter in stressful situations in this story. Which makes sense, except he always seemed to stutter the letter s, even if that wasn’t what it would seem the next word would be. So that was a little confusing a couple times for me, wondering what he was really trying to say there. Nothing bad or really that confusing, just made my brain wonder what really was supposed to go there.

Overall this is a great addition and part of this series! And as usual, such a gorgeous and perfect cover! I will be purchasing a physical copy as well just to put on my bookshelves with the rest of the series so I can gaze at it whenever I want!

Once again, Piper has written an absolute masterpiece!
I adored reading this novella! I’ve read many fantastic romance novellas and can confidently say I highly suggest this one! Although, you should totally consider starting this story when you know that you have time to read the whole thing right through. 😉 It’s the kind of story you don’t want to put down!
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again,Piper Sheldon is hands down one of my top favourite, must-read authors. She can do no wrong! 😊 She writes with such heart and gives people exactly what they didn’t even know they so desperately wanted. Heartfelt, swoon-worthy romances with lots of angst, feels and passion present on every page of each story. The sign of a truly fabulous author! 😉😘
It goes without being said, Piper always delivers on the high expectations her readers have. With her usual amazing story telling skills she consistently creates stories that every one of her devoted readers adore, and “Hopelessly Devoted” is no different! ❤️ Truly magnificent! 👌🏻❤️
“Hopelessly Devoted” is a perfect blend of all the best aspects of this phenomenal series. Angst, intrigue, romance, tension, heartache, hope and (of course) an abundance of passion mixed in! Plus, it’s all rolled up in a perfect little package you can binge all in one sitting! See? A perfect blend of everything you want in a good romance novella! ❤️ I adore all the Scorned Women’s Society books and this novella was no different! Absolutely amazing, I can confidently say I highly recommend reading it!

************************

Why are the hottest and sexiest romances, novellas that are only a hundred pages long xD ? Why ???

We've meet Skip and Jack in the previous books, each on their own (the 1st in Book 3 just before and the 2nd in Book 1). As Sanders runs after Roxie (The One That I Want), Skip reluctantly follows him, sure that he will have to mend the damage after the passage of the tornado... One evening in a gay bar, he is having an anxiety attack ; and Jack who had spotted him from afar, help him through this bad time. Then the sparks fly, and it ends up in hot kisses in a dark alley.

A few days later, they find themselves accompanying a group of teenagers for a camping trip. Between doing their job and fighting against their mutual attraction, they don't see the end of it...

Piper Sheldon has a knack for making very sexy scenes, when nothing much is going on xD. MM is not necessarily the genre I'm reading, but when it's this well written, it's even more swooning than other FM romances...

My only regret is not having had a full-fledged book rather than a novella, but when you have a new Piper Sheldon, you take it ^^

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I find, when I read a novella by an author I adore, I simply want more. Piper Sheldon’s newest offering to the SmartyPants universe is very much the case. I would say that the biggest downfall to her Hopelessly Devoted is its insistence in wanting more story for her MM heroes, Jack and William “Skip.” What Sheldon has done well with her newest book is weave it into the fabric of her Scorned Women’s Society. She’s teased out Jack from My Bare Lady, and Skip from The One That I Want and crafted a space for them to meet, fall in insta-love, struggle with their baggage, and find their happy ending. Sheldon invites you into a story that adds dimension and diversity to the bigger SmartyPants universe. While there is a bit of steam here, this story isn’t really about that. Sheldon’s story suggests that we must find our own happiness, erecting healthy boundaries that allow us to fall in love and live more abundant lives. She marries the sweet, compassionate Jack persona with the grumpier, more reserved Skip. Sheldon gives us the story that Skip and Jack need while reminding us of the stories of the other Scorned Women’s Society members, but I would have loved a bit more flesh on this apple of a story. In the end, however, I enjoyed the journey of William and Jack, and I can only hope we will find them again in future Piper Sheldon stories.

Hopelessly Devoted (Book 3.5) was a perfect gumbo of swoon, angst, lust, frustration, heartbreak and happily ever after. I'm a huge fan of all Pipers characters inside and out of Green Valley. This book is happening at the same time as Sanders and Roxy.

Jack is known to readers previously from My Bare Lady (Book 1). He's a solid, steady faithful best friend and life long brother/friend to Ford and by extension Suzie. He really knows who he is and what he wants.

William/Skip is familiar to us from The One That I Want (Book 3). He's got more baggage than the airlines. I find myself feeling protective of him. I don't want to call him Skip without explaining its because of Jack's reasoning of the nickname and its cruel origins. Then I feel pride in his natural skill in leading the boys in hiking and life lessons with ease. I want to wrap him up and give healing hugs for all the bad things that literally choke him. And that's Pipers gift isn't it? I feel all the things about these characters and this world she's built. Brilliant.

Add in the hysterical Lyft rides and gossip check-ins with Gretchen and the other SWS and Green Valley regulars and this novella is spicy and delicious.

"I was so happy to see him but only delaying the inevitable. Only pushing the sword deeper into my heart, so that when it was removed, I'd likely bleed out."

I have never teetered on the edge of my seat while reading a romance novel like I was reading Hopelessly Devoted. We first met Jack in Piper Sheldon's My Bare Lady and William was introduced in The One That I Want. When I read their first interaction as ancillary characters, there was instantly a need for more Jack & William! The story flows so organically, you can tell these characters were begging for Piper to tell it. The undeniable chemistry and longing between Jack & William are palpable.

Hopelessly Devoted is heart-pounding, want to peek at the ending, splinter you into a thousand shards to painstakingly piece you back together wonderful! I read Hopelessly Devoted over a week ago and I still have a book hangover. This is the novella Piper Sheldon readers have been waiting for and even better than we could’ve imagined!

"Strength comes from living through the pain, not ignoring it."

Piper Sheldon's gift for storytelling is truly awe-inspiring. I have enjoyed the Scorned Women's Society series for the creative reimagining of classic musicals, sassy and fierce female characters, and incredible writing. I love the SWS but move over ladies because Piper has truly outdone herself with Hopelessly Devoted! This book is powerful, thoughtful, heartbreaking, and funny. The connection between Jack and William sizzles with passion and raw emotion. This is one of those romances that lingers in your soul. Like a favorite song that touches you so deeply that it stays in your heart long after you experience it. Piper's talent for witty dialogue, dynamic characters, and unique storytelling is incomparable.

This novella fits perfectly into the SWS series. I loved the fun character catchups! It was wonderful to read about Suzie & Ford, Kim & Devlin, and Roxy & Sanders from Jack and Skip’s perspectives! Piper beautifully wove her storylines together to give readers a backstage peek at every other character's HEAs.

Hopelessly Devoted squeezed my heart, toyed with my emotions, and left me feeling book drunk. I loved this angst-filled, compassionate, pulse-pounding story!

Another amazing book by Piper! We needed Jack and William’s (Skip) story and she delivered. The fun banter, adventures and love these two share will have you smiling throughout the book.

Although this is a novella, it’s packed full of love, passion and beautifully written characters that will leave you wanting a tent adventure! :)

Each book Piper writes gets better and better. This is a stand alone but I HIGHLY recommend reading the entire Scorned Women’s Society series - Smartypants Romance.

I requested an arc and I am leaving my honest review.

Hopelessly Devoted was absolutely sweet, and deliciously hot. Before Jack and Skip can let themselves be loved by the other, each of them has to heal. Jack was burned by a man he loved deeply. Piper Sheldon takes each character through life learning. Real life isn't much rosier than what these guys are going through. It makes them very relatable while reading Hopelessly Devoted. Each of them were the right amount of sensitive mixed with a rugged outdoorsy element to them that can give you the shivers. This was my first Piper Sheldon book but I know now that it won't be my last.

good read

This book is a very romantic moving story and I think it is definitely time for stories like this to help dispel prejudice and to promote the understanding that love is what is important, not The who and what of it 👍👍👍💜🔮
