After seeing how happy his cousin is with his human, Kyr has come back for Ebony. But she isn't a scared human woman on an alien planet anymore. In fact, she's got an impressive intergalactic job and seems to be doing everything she can to get into as much trouble as possible, sending Kyr's new feelings into turmoil. He needs to keep her safe, but will she let him get close enough to do it?
This is the first in the Somii Soulmates Series, a spin off the Lyqa Planet Lovers. Enjoy! This story follows the events in My Alien Captor, Nyo. It is recommended to read that story first; although, not required.
Nikki Clarke is a poet and writer who’s always loved a good love story in books and on film. Her favorite on screen love declarations in no particular order are: Darius and Nina under the viaduct, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth in the field (Knightley and MacFadden version), and Dwayne and Whitley at the wedding. Nikki doesn’t mind a little weird (or raunch) mixed in with her romance and hopes to contribute to more happily ever afters of all shades and styles.
I enjoyed this book. This might be my favorite FMC by this author. I loved seeing a FMC who was kidnapped by aliens being in a position of power after the ordeal. It was so refreshing. My major con with this book is that after leaving the FMC for a year the MMC waltzes back into her life and integrates himself into it with little effort. As strong and stubborn as the FMC can be I would have thought she would have put up more of a fight based on how they parted. My other con although minor is I wish the author explored how the FMC got her position. It was hard for me as a reader to imagine the FMC going from having a food stand on an alien planet to becoming a high ranking intergalactic ambassador in just a year. I would have loved more information on that. Overall this book was a solid four stars. I look forward to reading the next book in this universe.
The thing is after the Nyo’s book as a novella setting this series up, it was a little strange to go back to Kyr’s story with Ebony in which there’s a lot of history and baggage, specifically Kyr and Ebony having fallen in love a year previously but Kyr refusing to risk a negative reaction from his people if he introduces Ebony to her. I had a problem with Kyr from this moment and I’m glad Ebony made him work to make amends.
The other thing I wasn’t a fan of was home much this story mirrors the introductory novella. There, Nyo (and Trina) sacrifice their relationship/love, and here Ebony and Kyr almost make the same sacrifice for Nyo and Trina. It was a little too on the nose for me.
Otherwise, this was an entertaining and sexy (maybe too repetitively so) read.
Kyr, my favorite character of this 1st book in the Somii series, was awesome. He was sweet, kind, loving, gentle, rough, and dedicated what more could I have asked for in a character. Although it is made evident that Kyr left Ebony to report back to his planet, I wish the conversation between them would have cleared the air on the true reasons as to why he was afraid to initially take Ebony to his home planet. The reasoning does makeup for him willingly leaving her behind but it does give their relationship more depth.
Ebony, although I wanted to love her character, I just didn't. For some off reason I found myself just okay with her, even though she is a bad ass and made the best out of a crappy situation...I didn't fall in love with her character like I so desperately wanted.
Overall I enjoyed the storyline, I just found no personal connection to the thrill aspect at the pivotal moments.
I love this story. Kry love Ebony and she love him. I love how they met and how Ebony turn her troubles into victory. She was taken from earth but instead of cry about it she open a business to live an then move on by finding her place in her new world as an embassy that use her college degree from earth to help others. I want to she more of this new series. This book earned a 10 but it got only a five because that is the highest rating for books. I think othets will love reading this fast pace but fun book.
Hard earth was not a good reference. I feel like in every book rotation means something different. Sometimes it’s a day and other times it’s a year. It’s been a year since he’s seen Ebony but then he says it’s been many rotations since he was with Ebony. If Ebony is now a captain, why couldn’t she just go back home? The repeating of what a fiancé is as well as the BIG Somii fact is hilarious. To me, this is technically the second book of Somii Soulmates Series. Sol is Somii and most of the book is in Somii.
Ebony wants to give aliens the kind of help she hadn’t been able to give her brother. Kyr wants to get Ebony back. Somehow they manage to save people in the process.
Honestly this is probably the best plot in the series and it connects two other stories. The inclusion of Malcolm from Malcolm and Dinar was a bit surprising, but much appreciated.
I enjoy the hell out of this universe and I hope Nikki Clarke keeps returning to it. So if you like Black Girls x Anybody (or just Sci-Fi Romance) then this is for you.
Kyr and Ebony were a good couple. I’m glad he stayed patient with her and fought for their love. He was not going to let her push him away even though he was at fault. It didn’t matter whether you are on earth or on another planet. There is always good and bad on either place. Ebony was great lawyer and she would not take no for answer. Kyr was a very giving and thoughtful lover and wanting to make sure Ebony satisfied and in turn she did the same. Super hot and sizzling. Good read, looking forward to the next book.
I enjoyed spending more time in the world this author originally created for the Lyqa Lovers series. This was more of an intergalactic caper. The sex scenes got to be a little repetitive; I ended up skimming past them after the first two. Still, I liked the story overall and would read more books in this series.
I’ve been reading these science fiction romance for the last seven days, Author please release your hold on me. It’s the beautiful, brilliant Black intergalactic lawyer for me. I love how strong and determined Ebony is & how Kyr respects who his woman is. So I’m obsessed & I’m ready every single book
Ebony is a bad ass, smart as hell, black, beautiful, intergalactic lawyer, and I love it! Kyr is very much a lover, not a fighter, and he shows his Ebbie this every chance he gets lol
This galaxy just keeps getting better and better. Every time I think I’m in love with an alien, I meet a new one. It’s hard to pick a fave but Kyr is in the running for my heart! Excited for the next book!
Start with the Lyqa and just keep reading. Nikki has built an amazing galaxy that will give you all the feels and alien book baes you can handle! Fabulous read as always!
Finally got to see Nyo have his happy ending along with Kyr. I really started to wonder reading this series could intergalactic romances happen. Can't wait to see what else happens wit this group
I lovd it! Super interesting imaginative story about a female human captain of a space ship with a crew of other female beings and males that she commands in their efforts to seek justice for the least amongst the galaxies...this story is badass!
