Alternate cover edition of ASIN B098CFSCQV

“Five weeks ago, I’d given my cheating ex and crumbling career in the San Francisco PD the proverbial middle finger, and moved to the Wild West…of Ireland. In that time, I’d learned to bake scones without burning them (okay, I still scrape off scorch marks), rescued a kitten trapped in a drainpipe (well, I’d helped), and solved a murder (that one really was me). All things considered, my time on Whisper Island hadn’t been the restful vacation my aunt Noreen had promised, but I’d had a blast.”

Meet Maggie Doyle, an ex-cop turned private investigator on a mission to find a slice of paradise in her new home of Whisper Island, Ireland. Too bad wherever Maggie goes dead bodies and mystery seem to follow.

Enjoy the first three books in Movie Club Mysteries series in one convenient boxset!

This collection includes:

DIAL P FOR POISON
After the most hated woman on Whisper Island is poisoned at her aunt’s café, can Maggie catch the murderer before they strike again? Or will her terrible baking skills burn down the café first?

THE POSTMAN ALWAYS DIES TWICE
The instant Maggie and her friend discover the corpse of Whisper Island’s postman, her plans to chill for the next two months are put on ice.

HOW TO MURDER A MILLIONAIRE
Armed with her newly issued private investigator's license, Maggie is on the case…of a sheep that went missing twenty-two years ago. When she trips over a dead body on the first day of the investigation, she realizes there’s more to this cold case than a fight over lamb chops.

Wow! You get three great stories in this box set and what a great way to listen because as soon as you finish one mystery you will be straight onto the next. It is unusual to find a book set in Ireland but the small town feel really came across nicely. I loved the whole idea of the cinema being turned into a cafe and it makes for a wonderful setting for murders but it was the characters that I loved. Feisty Maggie is a great main character but she is backed up by a great supporting cast that just make it so much fun.
Book one Dial P for poison
The mystery was really good with multiple motives and suspects to keep you guessing. It just really caught my imagination.
When Maggie's career and relationship fails she leaves behind America to travel to Ireland and help out her aunt. With her aunt needing dental treatment on the main land she needs somebody to run her cafe. Maggie wishes burning the scones and making had tea was the worst of it but when the monthly movie night ends with a death it only gets worse. Maggie can't help but follow her training and push for the death to be investigated as a murder. But in doing so her beloved aunt becomes the number one suspect. Maggie knows her aunt is innocent but the dead woman worked for the local newspaper and used it to spread rumours and secrets about the villages leaving behind a lot of people who hated her and make for very good suspects. Both of her aunt's included. Maggie pushed so hard for it to be treated as a murder now she has to find the killer.
The postman always dies twice
What should be a complicated and twisted mystery with everything that is going on but the author has created an easy to follow and very entertaining mystery, that kept me hooked. Maggie is a great main character but to be honest there are so many great characters that it is hard to pick a favourite. I really got into the mystery especially because nothing was what it seemed and add in the humour and you have a story you can listen to again and again.
During a storm Maggie is surprised to find the post van abandon in the middle of the road. Her training as a former police officer has her looking over the edge of the cliff to discover the body before it is washed out to sea. A number of things don't add up for it to have been a suicide but she never thought her best friends brother or grandfather would become the only suspects. Especially as the postman was a ladies man and a number of people hated him. Can she find the real killer and prove them innocent? At the same time her high school nemesis turns to Maggie for help in proving that there is no Poltergeist haunting her hotel before she loses all her guests and before the St Patrick's day race. It's a race not only to the finish line but also to find a killer and a pretend ghost.
How to murder a millionaire
I especially love Lenny her best friend in this one as he is good for a laugh and brings his own form of help and chaos to the story. The main character is also great and isn't afraid to speak her mind or stand up for the under dog. Again solving one mystery isn't enough for this author but it is so well written that it never gets confusing or boring and is just a great little mystery that kept me guessing.
Maggie has put in the time and the work and is now a private investigator and thanks to her aunt she has her very first case. To find out what happened to a sheep twenty years ago. Before she can question the man who might hold the clues to what happened to the sheep, she finds him dead. At the same time her dead grandmother's best friend has returned to the small island and wants to reconnect with her old friends family. Maggie jumps at the chance when she learns the dead man was a relative. Can she find out who would want the farmer dead? The more she learns about her grandmother's friends family the more she wants to avoid them. But the detective in charge of the murder investigation finds the rich and famous family unwilling to talk and posing as Maggie's boyfriend he gets them invited to join the family on holiday to learn more about them. Just before he is about to arrest the killer another body is found and the detective is attacked. So it's up to Maggie and her sidekick Lenny to solve both murders and find out what happened to the sheep.I
I really like the narrator, especially as she uses an Irish accent to bring the small island feel to live and bring a charm to the characters.

A version of younger Miss Marple sleuthing post divorce on an Irish island

I first read the first book four months ago and then bought this set and loved it! Keen to continue with the Movie Club mysteries and here’s the review of all 3 books in this set:

#1 Dial P for Poison:

Loved this fast-paced cosy murder mystery set on a small island in Ireland

I think I found me a new fave cosy mystery slash crime writer the likes of Miss Marple.

Maggie Doyle catches her attorney of a husband cheating and drunk driving - on her watch. A sucker punch, a divorce and a resignation from the US oilice force later, she is bunking with family & helping out keeping a coffee shop (and learning how to bake) on Whisper Island.

The book reminded me of C.J.Archer’s Cleo Fox mysteries - except set in modern-day Ireland. The tone, humour and quick pace reminded me of Janet Evanovich. Very enjoyable, fast paced read and the tone and language and subtle humour that draws you in from the first page. I’ll keep digging into the series coz I want to find out how officer Hottie flirts his way in with Maggie.

#2 The Postman Always Dies Twice:

Loved the 2nd book in this series - more of a Murder She Wrote vibe in this one. Maggie is sleuthing again on Whisper Island, Ireland… right after she discovers the body of the sleazy postman. I wish her and Dt Reynolds would just get it on already! Plenty of humour, but less than in the first book. I loved the kooky characters, especially Lenny and yay for Maggie going for the PI licence.

#3 How To Murder a Millionaire

A clean & sweet cosy mystery set on an Irish island. A local sheep farmer dies a day before a past resident, now matriarch heiress of a US tycoon family comes to visit and, of course, Maggie stumbles on the corpse. As you do. Not quite as hilarious as Evanovich’s books, more Murder She Wrote, but I liked the subtle wit and humour in this one. Seriously, the romantic angle needs to be moved up, I’m dying for Maggie and the Serge to get together. Easy to read, good plot, great secrets peeling back like onions and bodies piling up - what’s not to love. Reminded me of Shetland, the tv series a bit, but without the dark modern dramas, tbh.

Recommended for lovers of cosy mysteries the likes of Miss Marple but with a younger cast, a techy side-kick and a hot bod love interest, set on a modern day Irish island.

An enjoyable set of 3 cozy mysteries in 1 volume.

Maggie is the primary character, a former homicide detective in the US until her marriage failed.
She went to live with an aunt on an island in Ireland and shenanigans ensued.

Dial P for Poison / A quiet town full of people Maggie knew from prior visits as an adolescent. Now an adult needing to recover from the divorce she catches up with old friends and relatives. The varied characters were so colorfully written I read on through and thoroughly enjoyed the journey. My 2nd favorite character arrived near the end.

The Postman Always Dies Twice / It was a dark and stormy night could describe the opening of this one. Maggie becomes embroiled in what might be a case of homicide, accidental death, and mistaken identity. Hijinks, Poteen & pot brownies, car problems, farm animals, and evildoing kept me snickering.

How to Murder a Millionaire / Maggie is officially a licensed PI and one of her first cases relates to resolving the mystery of a long-missing goat (22 YEARS), and more angst about changes in the town center associated with possible property changes, hotel partnership and more on a retreat to a private event on another island. Tons of fun, mayhem, murder and I have found that Maggie has my interest and I am glad that there are several more books in this series.

After leaving San Francisco and her cheating ex-husband for the rocky island of her father’s childhood, Maggie Doyle just wants some time to rest and reset after her life has fallen apart. Unfortunately, soon after moving to Whisper Island, she’s seemingly becomes a dead body magnet! Now she’s juggling butting into police business to help solve murders, working at her aunt’s café, and meeting the new people she’s going to be living with for a while.

From her cousin and potential assistant Lenny, a poteen drinking, weed smoking, UFO enthusiast, to the island’s new police sergeant, a cop that Maggie can’t decide whether to date or not, there is a slew of characters to get to know and love. With pulse-pounding mysteries, a beautiful Irish setting, and gut-busting situations that will have you laughing until you cry, this box set is the perfect introduction to Maggie and Whisper Island.

The characters in this book are extraordinary as well as ordinary. They are entertaining, yet you could bump into one at any time. If you love character-driven novels with great plots, this book series is for you. The first three books are enough to whet your appetite for the rest of the series, so pick up this set and delve into the fantastic world of Whisper Island. You won’t regret it.

This 3 book series by Zara Keane is a lovely cozy mystery set in Ireland. Maggie Doyle ex-cop left her cheating ex and her failing police job and moved to Ireland to work in her Aunt’s bakery. She’s a disaster in the kitchen although great at solving problems. In Dial P for Poison, The postman always dies Twice, and How to murder a Millionaire she gets her feet wet as a fledgling PI. In the course of these 3 stories, with her good childhood friend they hone their chops as they learn the in’s and out’s of what to do and what not to do when investigating a murder. I really enjoyed the first 3 books.

Outstanding!!! Don't know when I have enjoyed reading as much as I did reading these three books. I look forward to reading more and all of the books in this series.
Having said that, I have to express my displeasure in the fact that Ms. Keane humiliated, mortified and just plain made our erstwhile heroine look like a buffoon when our dear author had her running around town with her rear end sticking out of her torn pants. This in no way added to the story, made it more enjoyable or in any way enhanced it. Some may feel that it was comical, but I found it obnoxious and demeaning to our our heroine, who I found to be an exemplary person, woman and detective. I sincerely hope that nothing like this happens in any other books, or I might change my opinion about this series and the author.

Excellent writing

Well written, fun and captivating stories of small town/Island life and a protagonist who attracts dead bodies and can't help herself from investigating. Reminiscent of Murder She Wrote meets Ballykissangel (Irish soap). The characters are so eccentric and have such fun together that it just reads as a fun comedy with a bit of murder mystery thrown in. Easy to picture in its cinematic descriptions of people and places.
Somehow the main character is always losing part of her clothing when she shows off her ability to take down a bad guy, and instead of being a lame comedy ploy and running gag, it gives her amusing faults and makes her more relatable.

Three Great Cozy Mysteries

I love the character Maggie. She’s been wronged, but is one tough cookie and whip-crack smart. The descriptions of all the other characters is so entertaining, but I won’t mention them all by name. You’ll have to read the books! I will say that a good cozy will scare and excite you, but breaks it up with laugh-out-loud moments. These books did not disappoint. The sexual tension between Maggie and Liam is palpable, but so sweet. The criminals are truly devious, but don’t spoil the HEA. I can’t wait to see what other shenanigans these characters get into.

Couldn't stop reading!

I wish I could write more but it's the middle of the night because I just couldn't put away my kindle and go to sleep! THREE books and each time I got to the end I had to start the next book right away! I love the characters and personalities, and love that the main character isn't a typical wonderful baker who is simply a plucky spirit. She has police background and I love the way she handles herself. What a great setting too!! Really sad it ended, sp I guess it's time to find more stories in this series!!!

I loved loved loved these 3 books

Maggie, an ex-cop, returns to the Ireland of her childhood to spend some time with her aunt Noreen after her short marriage implodes unexpectedly. Noreen buys the old movie theater in town and builds a cafe in its lush lobby and shows old movies and dress up nights complete with cocktails. All is fun until the most hated woman is found dead in the theater once the lights come back up. And this is just the first book! You will enjoy getting to know some Irish people/family/ friends in these fast paced storylines and fascinating characters.

Murder Most Unlikely

With the collapse of her marriage and the demise of her career with the SFPD, Maggie visits her father's birthplace, Whisper Island off the coast of Galway, to spend time with her aunts.
Three terrific murder mysteries revolving around Maggie, her family, her old/new friends, Bran the dog, and several cats. But, oh, also the Garda sent from the mainland, Sergeant Hottie - Liam Reynolds. The love-interest Maggie isn't sure she should want.
With the terrific characters, wonderful locations and clever scenarios, I really enjoyed these stories. First class.

Fun escapes from my reality, recipes included. Some laughs, murder solving, movie watching, matchmaking aunts and maybe a little romance too.

Following Maggie through the changes in her life as she takes a holiday to escape after things go from bad to worse.

Navigating her new life, reconnecting with family and contemplating new possibilities. Maybe the possibility of a little romance too.

Cosy mystery. Easy read. An ex US cop splits from her husband and moves back to her hometown in Ireland. She helps out in her aunts cafe with the intention of going back to the US after a couple of months. A murder happens and she helps to solve it. She ends up staying longer than planned. A little predictable but a nice read with likeable characters so that can be forgiven. I'll be reading the rest in the series.

Midsommer Murders meet Whisper Island

Maggie, an ex San Francisco cop and Liam, an ex London Met Detective join forces to solve a series of murders on touristy Whisper Island. A place that would give Cabot Cove Maine a run for its money as most murders per capita. In well written cozy novels, we are transported to Whisper Island, Ireland to see if we can solve the mysteries before Maggie and/or the police.

Exciting

The is an easy read. The characters are nicely developed and interesting. Some you will love, like and intensely dislike. There are twists, turns and surprises. The pace is good, not too fast or slow. There is a smooth transition between the books. You will also have comedy and romance. The typos were mostly in the third book. I will read more books from this author.😎

Fascinating!!!!

Very Interesting setting. I really enjoyed the Irish countryside. I also enjoyed the characters with their foibles and the presence of miscellaneous livestock and pets. Much more true to like and interesting with furry friends underfoot. Keane is one to put on the favorite authors list.

Fast paced fun from beginning to end

I love everything about these books except for the way she says the Movie Club Cafe every time! Just once in awhile it would have been appropriate and less awkward to simply say 'the cafe', or 'Noreen's place'. The people, places, and plot lines were wonderful. I am looking forward to many more advent with Maggie, Penny and Reynolds.

Great to learn more about Ireland and Irish culture. I have a little bit of the last of the 3 to finish, but I enjoyed the author and characters. I always wonder about so many murders in small towns, and if they just run out of people to kill. I have also enjoyed the interaction between the main characters.

Still waters run deep

Maggie, from Irish roots, to American street smart cop, returns to a quiet island in Ireland for a bit of rest while waiting for her divorce to be finalized.
She should have known better. The Irish feel deep about a lot of things. Laughter and murder seem to go hand in hand with a wee bit of romance stirred in.

Such an entertaining series with many laugh out loud moments, some sad situations, quirky characters and mysteries - both murderous and more mundane. Be warned that you may find yourself reading, “just one chapter”, as I did late into the evening.

Although it was my pleasure to receive this three-book collection free, it was completely my choice to share my honest review.

What about Nancy?

Books 1-3 of Movie Club Mysteries involve a former police officer from San Francisco coming back to the island of her childhood. Meaning to relax and regroup, Maggie stays with her aunt and become a modern-day detective, solving crimes, learning to be
observant, and rekindling friendships
and igniting nemesis's negative encounters. A fun "cozy" mystery!

It was very easy to get to know and like Maggie Doyle and her friends. I read all three books and enjoyed them all! Lots of suspects is what I like in any book so I can try and figure out who the culprit is! Most times I am wrong, but that's ok! I like the twists and the light-hearted humor and bantor between the characters!

Great set of mysteries

The first 2 books are great intros into the characters of these Irish mysteries. By the 3rd book, I was hooked!

Maggie & Lenny are a great pair and Lenny's antics make me laugh out loud. There's a new cop in town & he is determined to make sure all crimes are punished unlike the local Sheriff.

I'll be on the look out for the next book

These three stories were a true delight. Exciting, not put downable and humorous. I normally don't read 3 of the same series in a row, I change off for change, but this series was so much fun I just kept reading. And plugging my kindle in more often than normal. Thank you Ms Keane for an exciting new series to follow.
