Ayla and Miria were both born to fates they didn't choose. One, the Holy Maiden of Artheris, symbol of peace and victory over the long-defeated witches who once supposedly oppressed these lands. The other, a witch who lives in constant fear of being captured and killed, always hiding her powers, and the last of her kind. It seems certain that these two become mortal enemies, but what if it didn't have to be that way? What if, by resisting their fates, they could choose something different?
Some would this is a short story, and there's nothing wrong with that. Light and Flame kindles (heh) a warmth that spreads through you as you read scratching that metaphorical itch you seek to scratch
It was a cute story. If you’re looking for a quick read with a feel good ending this might just be up your alley. The potential this story has to be a full length novel has me wishing. But as is it’s not too bad. Cover art is adorable too.
A well crafted fantasy world with enough realistic greed and corruption to make it just that more believable. The leading ladies are well written and have excellent chemistry. Highly recommended.
I must admit that I read this book a little to fast the first time. I was gripped by the feeling and emotion in the story. A second read however made my heart skip and yes I cried very deeply at the courtyard scene. I can say that this will be a top recommended book to many of my friends in hopes that they to find the same heart skips I did reading this book. I think it is obvious now why I place five stars on this book and will continue to recommend it.
A beautiful fantasy story with the perfect amounts of action and romance. And wow...the villan (avoiding spoilers but it's obvious early on what a terrible person they are) is so cruel. Truly hated this character!! Considering the shorter length the story still had a lot going on and felt well rounded and complete. Definitely recommended!
I'm always up for a little sapphic romantic fantasy. To set your expectations: 1) It's really a novella, coming in at 110 pages. 2) Come to the book like it's more of a fairy tale than a novel. The style is very tell-y, rather than show-y. You have to be ready for "I saw her once and now I'm in love". The villain will twirl his mustache (not literally; I'm saying it's not subtle.) People's inner monologue and sometimes outer monologue will be "Since I was abandoned as a child and have never felt love...." Everything is text, reading subtext is not required. 3) The cover looks like it might be cozy, but... it's really not. There's a fair amount of death on page with torture happening next door. It doesn't come off as grimdark or anything, but many people will die, including innocent ones, sometimes gruesomely. I read about 50 pages one night before falling asleep and then finished it the next night before falling asleep. So that, and the very affordable price, means it's not a huge commitment.
I wanted to see what happened. I love the cover. I would have liked to have time to fall in love and be more immersed, however.
As I thought previously, they did cut corners to wrap up the story, but it wasn't too bad. The story was cute and Ellis got his happy ending. But I wish Ayla would have told him outright that she didn't have feelings for him. She knew he liked her, and he and a feeling that she didn't like him. So I feel the least she could do was talk to him about it and her sexuality, especially since he is a good friend and she feels safe around him already. To me (at least) it felt like she was abusing his kindness and feeling. I know that wasn't the case since she's "such a kind person" but she really could have done better expressing that.
Also I love how there wasn't much miscommunication between Ayla and Miria when they were ambushed. They BOTH knew what was up and it wasn't an act of betrayal or anything.

boring. I was getting a little confused because perspectives would switch in the same paragraph for like 2 sentences and then back again abruptedly. I liked the concept of them having opposing powers, one "evil" and one "good", and then ending up together. I also appreciated how even though Ellis had always been in love with Ayla, he didn't let that get in the way of him being happy for Ayla and Miria. It was a small book so it moved fast but I never got attached to any of the characters. There was no tension and they kissed like twice, ok.
The book was fast pace and easy to read. But I wish Ayla and Miria spent more time together and their romance was more fleshed out. It was kind of annoying how much the book focused on Ellis. Ellis is the guardian of Ayla and he is always there being a 3rd wheel.
So this was a solid 3.5, honestly. It was cute and had a good flow to the storyline. A quick and easy read that gave you just enough of the characters to enjoy them, while still keeping the overall story to the point.
I enjoyed the characters and concept, but the book was short and rushed. It could have been something amazing if given more time. If you want a short read that is a lot like a Disney movie insta-love, though, it's a good book for that.
I loved it. I got so into it. I loved the plot and characters. It was great but also emotionally exhausting so don't read it if you are not ready to feel anger.
3,5⭐ love two see two magical lesbians against a narcissistic man, though i think it would have been better if they had more time to get to know each other before jumping to them falling in love
I got this for free on Stuff Your Kindle Day 2023.
While searching for manga/graphic novels on Amazon, this cute cover came up and I downloaded it.
What is it? This is an adorable sapphic story of forbidden love between the Holy Maiden and an undercover witch. It is nicely written and the characters are great.
What it isn't? A manga/graphic novel! Granted, there are a few beautiful illustrations inside, but it is nowhere near being a manga... It is even labelled as "manga" on GoodReads!
I still enjoyed this lovely little story, all the same.
