Darker Shade #1

Rise of Shadows

Rate this book
Death calls, I answer.
Quite literally.

Every time I close my eyes, I see those who are about to die,
And I’m unable to do anything to stop it.
Until one day, when I try to save yet another victim, something inside of me just…flips.

The shadows rise, and they’re hungry.

All I ever wanted was to be normal,
Instead, I found out just how different I am.
I must learn to control my powers, to take charge of my life.
Because if not? Well, there are angels out there hunting me.

I’m told demons are safe, demons won’t care about what I am.
But if an angel ever finds out…. They’ll kill me on sight.
They think I’m a monster, something forbidden.

They can never know the truth.

When I stumble upon a group of men at a club, two demons and an angel, I don’t know what to do.
I should run, but something about them calls to me.
Something deliciously wicked.
Something I want to explore.

But giving into temptation might just bring my downfall.

Author's note: Darker Shade is the first book in a series of stand-alone books where the main character will not have to choose between her men. Due to mature content, it should not be read by anyone under the age of 18.

Content warning: This book contains cursing, violence, and sexy times between multiple people, including people of the same sex. It's a darkish book that explores the thematic of death, so if that makes you uncomfortable, please skip this book. I promise there will be other, lighter books in the future.

T.S. Snow

A scientist at heart, T.S. Snow lives in a land far far away, secluded from most authors and readers (rumor has it that if you open your wardrobe you can find her hiding in there trying to take a nap). T.S. has a thirst for learning new languages, even if she is mostly worried about finding out new curse words in them. She has an amazing support system that include a loving boyfriend, her family, friends and her loyal - if completely lazy - dog. When she's not writing, T.S. can often be found causing complete chaos with her friends on social media, inhaling unhealthy amounts of coffee, or napping. Mostly napping.

Okay first off that cover 𝐔𝐍𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐘. 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐋. I think i'm in love. This read has been 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬, it really was a magnificent little gem. Now this did lack some much needed world building, some plot lines were forgotten and characters were easily dismissed, also it could have had more depth to it but honestly my demons made up for it, even if i wished they met sooner in the story. Plus the fact that i didn't expect this to be a 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐋𝐃-𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆-𝐄𝐏𝐈𝐂 fantasy but rather be a nice, fast paced paranormal reverse harem, and that's exactly what i got. So if you take this book for what it is will have a nice couple hours of fun. Don't overthink it.
]|I{•---------⋘⋙---------------•⪼⦕࿅⦖⪻•---------------⋘⋙---------•}I|[
I really loved our little reaper in training she was a nice well written character, which really surprised me because i usually find that type of character very annoying, to the point where i want to 𝐆𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐄𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐮𝐭 but here the author really balanced all her personality trait very well that i had no choice but to adore her. She had a really nice character development and grew a lot more confident through out the story. But who wouldn't when you 𝐖𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐔𝐩 𝐈𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐎𝐟 𝐀 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐜𝐡 every day for a week. And after more than 20 years of loneliness it means the world to finally be seen.

“The guys were turning me into a spoiled sex addict. Not that I was complaining. They treated me like a goddess, both when it came to sexual exploration but also during the whole aftercare. They fed me, offered to draw me baths, and sometimes even went in with me to “wash my back”. It was wonderful. Like I’d stepped into some parallel universe and got to live my best-spoiled princess life.”

⋘•⋙---------•⪼⪻•---------⋘•⋙
Speaking of Demons. Rozier and Dante my my my, where do i even start. Z only feeds on the sexual energy of the regulars at his club but doesn't participate anymore because as an Incubus people are always affected by his presence even when he doesn't uses his powers and after centuries of people reacting to what he is and not who it gets dull and boring so he just feeds on their energy to stay alive. Where as Dante always keeping his distance from people because as a pain demon his touch is unbearable even for Z who loves pain and can easily turn it into pleasure can't handle it for long. And having people flinch from your touch or scream from the pain is taking it's toll on our demon. But then our little lamb walked into that club and opened a brand new world to them.

“Looking at Dante who’d woken up and kept quietly touching Mora, a look of wonder on his face. It was the damnedest thing. He’d slowly almost fearfully reach out with a single finger and place it somewhere on Mora, brows furrowed, only to look like a child on Christmas morning when nothing would happen. It was ridiculously adorable how he kept expecting her to react differently now, after he’d been balls deep inside of her just a few hours ago, with her hands sprawled over his chest as she rode him. Even then, Mora had felt nothing but pleasure. There was no way Dante would be willing to give her up, either. Not after he found the one thing he’d always longed for. The one thing he’d craved.”

⋘•⋙---------•⪼⪻•---------⋘•⋙
These two are the personification of yin-yang with Morana as their center. One gives you 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 and the other 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐢𝐧 with our little reaper in the middle whose not affected by either of them, his pheromones bounce off of her and his touch turns into pleasure. Honestly these three were made for each other. The dynamic between them was just beautifully well done. Their connection was so 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥. 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥. 𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥. 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭, it created a bond that can never be broken. It had nothing to do with fate or mates but everything to do with them. Also not gonna lie, i wouldn't have minded having that tail anywhere near me.

“I’d never felt this damn content in my entire life. I lay in bed with Mora snuggled between Dante and me after round thirteen or something, her arms wrapped around me, Dante the big spoon behind her. Never thought I’d see the day the fucker would not only finally agree to join me, but that he’d go above and beyond. Who would’ve thought my Mora would be the one to break that wall of stiffness he’d wrapped around himself? My Mora. My beast purred and I nuzzled her hair. She smelled so good. Like creme brûlée or something equally as delicious.” [...] “My beast chose you, and it was right to do so. We can make this work, if you want. The three of us...”

And to the Fourth member of our harem. . . Honestly the angel wasn't even freakin' needed here. Actually it would have been better as an 𝐌𝐌𝐅 story. This character became so 𝐀𝐛𝐧𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠. Idk if this feeling is coming from me or his weird ass attitude or the way he spoked too like at first he talked like the rest of the characters but than his speech turned from modern to a 15th Century Viscount. 𝐖𝐓𝐅 was that about. But hey either way i don't have enough Fu#ks to give here to actually care. So not gonna go all freudien on this sh*t to find out. At some point i actually forgot the dude was in the story to be honest. 𝐒𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐒𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲.

⋘•⋙---------•⪼⪻•---------⋘•⋙
Honestly since the moment he felt the mating pull i was out. I loved Rhys screaming she's my mate to Mor but this Angel not so much. It felt so cringy and infuriating. I swear he said the word mate 𝐌𝐎𝐑𝐄 than 20 times in 𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 and 93 times throughout the story. His interest in Mora wasn't even about 𝐇𝐄𝐑 it was just the fact she's 𝐇𝐈𝐒 mate that's it. Nothing else. He didn't say anything about her in any way, everytime he mentioned her he only says the word mate. When in reality it doesn't mean jack sh*t because reapers don't have mates. He tried to makes a feel for his pain with the whole being cast out and feeling rejected by her but truth be told she didn't chose them over him since he wasn't even an option at that point. Because instead of finding her and talking to her he had a pity party since she didn't fell 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐬 the second she met him. But that didn't seem to register in his one functioning brain cell because all there was in his skull was 𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐓 𝐇𝐄𝐑. 𝐒𝐄𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐑. 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐕𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐑. 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐒𝐄 𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐒. 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐀𝐒𝐊 𝐇𝐄𝐑. 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐄𝐑. 𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐍 𝐈𝐓. 𝐁𝐔𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐒𝐄. Need i say more?

⋘•⋙---------•⪼⪻•---------⋘•⋙
But then by the end he tried to Redeemed himself to me a little. Not entirely but like just a bit since for once he did something for her and not himself like the self-centered angel he is. But all that good grace went out the planet when he mentioned children and the whole males develop a knot to 𝐋𝐎𝐂𝐊 their females. Yeah my 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐁*𝐭𝐜𝐡 was like 𝐍𝐎 𝐅#𝐂𝐊 this and went back to hating the guy and the whole angelic race too. I mean really you give us an 𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐔𝐁𝐔𝐒, 𝐀 𝐏𝐀𝐈𝐍 𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐈𝐍' 𝐃𝐄𝐌𝐎𝐍 and you think that a 𝐒𝐄𝐋𝐅-𝐅#𝐂𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆-𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐄𝐎𝐔𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐋 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐎𝐑 𝐁𝐄 𝐄𝐍𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇... Woman what were you think, honestly. I'll take a vibrating d*ck over a knot anyday (too Omegaverse for me). Also if all that 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐍'𝐓 𝐄𝐍𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇 for me to hate the guy the fact that he was the 𝐁𝐈𝐆𝐆𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐂𝐎#𝐊𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐂𝐊 𝐈𝐍 𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘 definitely would be. I rolled my eyes at the guy so many times, i was half afraid they'd stay stuck on the other side. But the word mate coming out of his mouth even when i didn’t entirely hate the guy was 𝐏𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐥 𝐎𝐮𝐭 𝐎𝐟 𝐌𝐞. And the fact that he kept calling her that was not helping. Was he afraid he'd forget she's his freakin' mate if he stopped calling her that. Cause dude that's not a pet name. We have Kitten or Siren from Z, Baby or Vixen from Dante and 𝐅#𝐂𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 Mate from him.

]|I{•---------⋘⋙---------------•⪼⦕࿅⦖⪻•---------------⋘⋙---------•}I|[
I honestly dont get their relationship yeah she found him hot but there wasn't anything there for her, not like with Z and Dante. The fact is, if he hadn't said she was his mate they wouldn't even be in the same 𝐅#𝐂𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 room together let alone a couple. This actually feels like a poor man's version of a fated mates story because of her relationship with the others. It's like drinking top shelf scotch all night then being handed a bottle of horse-piss alcohol. It might have been drinkable in the beginning of the night but now, when you know what greatness taste like, not so much. 𝐀𝐦 𝐢 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞? 𝐎𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐢 𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬? I feel like I'm better at ranting than praising lately. Kinda weird when i don't particularly like to write negative things but when something irks me the wrong way, words just flows out of my brain like a 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐎𝐟 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬. I can't help it. So There You Have It.
𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫. 𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐝. 𝐈 𝐚𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫.

Eeeee!! This was so good. I got hooked by the blurb and immediately downloaded it. The powers, the plot, the meeting, the plot twists. The men were amazing. Loved the first impression. It was hilarious. The smut was so good as well as the moments and confessions. The reveal was great. When it all came to head and the action happened I was really surprised to see that it was the last quarter end of the book already. It went by so fast. I wanted more of Mora, Cam, Dante, and Rozier. I would have loved to see more epilogues and them all together. This is one of those instances when I wish the book was a duet or trilogy.

Probably should have dropped as I could have read 2 novellas this weekend instead of this.

Good concept, great ideas and an excellent mix of supernatural boyfriends. Love that the men are all involved with each other as well. We love to see a group of bi men.

The pacing was really off though and it ruined the book for me. I also really didn't like the style of the writing. Too bad, because there was a lot here to like but the things I didn't like just stomped it for me.

While I enjoyed the world building and the characters individually, the overall pacing and relationship building between all the characters was really inconsistent and not that well fleshed out.

We got a slow introduction to the FMC Morana/Mora's power and the angels trying to hunt her down for "reasons", and then boom - we received an info dump of her heritage after finding out that revealed herself to be her mother, and the story fast-forwarded a year later after she went through training at . We got no details about how the academy worked, what she did there, and how only a year of it was sufficient to fully train her powers. In fact, I was still super unclear what her purpose as a reaper was by the time I finished the book and exactly how and why Mora was so different than any other common reaper. Her mother seemed to be able to do normal reaper duties just fine without any other scary abilities like Mora displayed.

Relationship-wise, the first in her harem didn't actually manage to make real contact with her until around 53% into the book. The second joined around 63% and was more interested in MM with the first member initially than intimacy with Mora. Her last member of the harem, , finally revealed himself directly to Mora around 80% and didn't manage to have intimate contact until the last few pages of the book! Throughout the story, I also found that Mora mother used super casual dialogue like someone who was in her 20s for an , and we were just supposed to accept that Mora and her mother got together along swimmingly without any regular growing pains that any newly established parent-child relationship would have. The only real dissonance about Mora's new relationships wasn't really an argument at all but instead ignored in favor of other topics.

As for the overarching drama about the angels hunting Mora down for "reasons," it was really superficial and tied up in a few sentences when the ultimate showdown finally happened. Same with what happened to Mora's father and how it was eventually handled for an HEA with her mother.

I was left rather unsatisfied with all the relationships in the book, but I'm willing to try another book in the series to see if the pacing will end up any better since these appear to all be planned as standalones.

As a side note, there ended up being some unusual anatomy for incubi () and angels () in this book that I thought didn't quite fully fit in with normal supernatural tropes - the especially. It should also be a warning for those that aren't interested in reading that kind of monster erotica, even though the smut was just a few scenes in the book.

So, what happened to book number 2? Supposed to be released this spring, but now it was cancelled, disappeared from Amazon and Goodreads, but no mentions is it going to be published some day.

***

Story was entertaining, but not particularly complex. I would have liked it to have a little more meat around the bones: events and characters acceptance were too sudden, the plot was quite simple, and there were hardly any deeper conversations between the characters. Yes I was entertained but most likely won't remember this book after a while.

A deliciously spicy standalone👏🏻

Gotta be honest, didn't think TS Snow was going to cut me off at the knees like that. I really wanted a whole series for Mora and her harem but no such luck. She accomplished everything and more in ONE book😭

Z is top tier spank bank material😅🤣 like. You want good smut? You get an incubus to.... alleviate some tension😉🥰 he's mine, FYI. Don't think he is yours. He's not.

Dante is smoldering. Just UGH. All the feels. Being unable to touch anyone and getting his mate in Mora is so incredible. I was swooning all over the pages.

I'm not gonna talk about Cam. I have all sorts of unpopular opinions about him and TS embraced my dislike of the character and tried to get me to begrudgingly like him by the end. But by the end, I still couldn't be bothered with him😅🤣

I loved Mora. Her mindset is very different from TS's other FMC and its honestly amazing. She's a bit naive and her budding relationship with Death is so heartwarming.

But don't get too comfortable. You'll cry. Hard. Because TS is a sadist.

I'm excited to see what else comes from this world as there are so many characters I want to see more of.

3.5ish

What I liked - the lore, her parents, the s3x scenes, rozier.

What left me unsatisfied- what happened to gadreel in the end? What is she exactly - not nephilim, not a reaprer but no actual answer. Why did cams eyes change from green to blue randomly? Why did we spend pages in inner monologue mid conversation? Cam kinda got shafted in terms of us seeing their relationship grow.

So based on that I liked and enjoyed the book but didn't love it. I think honestly the author could have added another few chapters to flesh some things out and it would have been a five star.

Snow you’ve done it again. I couldn’t put this book down (to the point that it’s now 2:30AM and I will be dreading the morning). I mean, who doesn’t love a reserve harem that includes demons and angels?! This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. But if you enjoy the ultra smut, threesomes, and members that are out of this world (😉) then I would definitely read this.

P.S. the cover is GORGEOUS

It took me longer than expected to get in to this book. The first several chapters were slow and felt like they just kept dragging. Which is surprising, usually TS Snow’s books pull me right in. The first 20% is basically all talk about Mora being a recluse and being different and briefly introducing the guys. Then the next 5% is a quickly glanced over year of her training. Honestly, by 30% in I considered DNFing because I was bored.

I decided to push on since Mora and the guys finally formally meet. While it picked up a little for me there I still didn’t find myself super excited to read this book. I was easily distracted by other things and had no problem putting it down.

50% in and we finally get Mora getting the courage to go back to Sinners and hook up with Rozier and Dante. Those scenes were hot and honestly the only reason I kept reading. The big bad was terribly predictable and the battle lasted all of 4 pages. It was pretty disappointing to be honest.

I felt the the relationships between Mora, Dante and Rozier could have been worked on more and had a little bit more substance. Cam’s scene with Mora at the end just felt forced and really we could have done away with him and just made it a ménage and focused more on Rozier and Dante. Also, why was a random knotting thrown in there in the last chapter of the book? To make it more appealing because that’s what’s popular right now? It was just weird and uncalled for. Probably would have been more believable with one of the demons.

Overall this book was meh. I liked the overall story but more time should have been spent on the relationships and Mora figuring out what exactly she was. The book ended and we never did find out. It was just a miss for me. I probably could have DNFd when I considered it at first and not thought twice about it.

This was a better book than I thought it would be. Honestly, the appeal of reading this book was just not there from the blurb but Amazon kept thrusting the book in my face at every turn so I gave it a go.
It wasn't bad.

Its not super great either. Like if I miss the sequel I won't be that put out. Honestly, I feel like this book just could've been longer and a stand-alone. It fleshes stuff out pretty well and I don't feel the urge to need a second book. The pacing feels off in this book at times and the relationships between the characters is very off. One gets a lot of attention with the 2nd as more of a back up character. The 3rd guy character is written in a fleshed out more than the 2nd but its obvious that the 1st character is the favorite and the only one who really has any sort of relationship with the fmc. And thats stretching it. Things slog super slow for a bit as far as story goes. Then we get a little rush. And then things slow again. Its not very consistent.

I enjoyed the bits in the beginning where it was obvious that it was written from the fmc's perspective of being this sweet naieve little innocent who has sheltered herself. But that really jumps away so quickly and she immediately seems to know everything and how to do everything so that was irritating. Either commit or not.

The book does wrap things up fairly nicely. Not a major cliffhanger. Which is good because I'm not really inclined to read the second book. This book wasn't bad. It just wasn't great either.

This was fine. It was a light read after a much longer urban fantasy pick. It felt like this wasn't fully fleshed out. The author had such great characters, premise, and story points that were begging to be explored further. The way it was structured, it felt like four separate parts that could have been woven into each other better: the intro, the training (which was skipped over), the naughty bits, and the double climax (which is not a naughty innuendo). I felt like if this story had really been given its due, it would have been more satisfying - even if I had been looking for a quick read.

Why did you read this book?
It was a reverse harem with good ratings.

What format did you read this book in?
Read it as an ebook on Kindle.

Is this an educational book or a book for entertainment?
I read this book for pure entertainment purposes.

What genres do you think this book belongs to?
Contemporary, Fantasy, Gay and Lesbian, Paranormal, Romance, Adult

What was your favorite part in the book? SPOILERS!
I think my favorite part of the book is when you see Rozier loses control. The reader realizes how truly powerful he is.

Who would you suggest this book to?
Anyone who likes fantasy romance reverse harems.

What is your general opinion/ rating of this book? SPOILERS!
I really enjoyed this book. It had a fascinating hook and I am interested to see where the series goes from here. I like how the author built their paranormal world in the story. Personally, it seems like the demons are being favored in this book and I would like to see some redeeming qualities to the angels. I also felt the added angel love interest was pushed in and didn’t seem natural like the others. I am also a little disappointed by how the conflict at the end was resolved. If all Grim had to do was state that the main character was her daughter to get them to back off, why didn’t she do that from the beginning? Overall, I really liked the story and it seemed like a completed book. I wonder what the rest of the series is going to be about.

Are there any cliché scenes or concepts?
The main character is born with special powers and is a unique hybrid. The love interests are instantly attracted to her because of instant-love/“fated mate” magic.

How intense are the intimacy scenes?
VERY intense and detailed. MF and MFM. There are scenes where the love interests are in their original forms (including tail, horns, and wings).

At what “burn” level is the romance?
The burn level is spicy HOT. (Demons and Angels have special genitals.)

Love interests, how many of them are there and what gender? SPOILERS!
There are 3 love interests, all males.
Rozier- Incubus demon.
Dante- Pain demon.
Cambriel- Watcher Angel.

This book had an interesting story and was super spicy at the same time. While most of the book was about getting the group together and the intimate moments they shared afterward, the overall premise of it was still important to the plot and wrapped up quickly, but nicely in my opinion. There’s not much action in the book (besides between the characters 😉) so though it’s not the most suspenseful book out there, it still had its moments of tension and anticipation that worked well within the story. I also liked the multiple POVs that gave readers a glimpse into the thoughts of the different MCs.

Twenty five year old Mora has always been different, so when she discovers the truth about the deathly power that’s plagued her all her life, she has no choice but to learn to manage it. Now armed with a new control over her powers and a vow to keep her dangerous secret guarded, Mora ventures out to experience everything she’s missed in her isolation. When that puts her face to face with two demons and an angel who all seem unable to take their eyes off her, she’ll need more willpower than her training provided to keep away from the alluring group of men and keep her secret to herself—especially since they’re the very men she’s been warned about.

I appreciated that the author included a forward that mentioned possible triggers, general content warnings, and a disclaimer about the nature of the book. Though this book didn’t cover anything incredibly dark, the fact that the author chose to warn readers regardless was nice to see. This is becoming more common in books recently and I personally think it’s absolutely amazing, and it makes my decision as a reader whether a book is for me or not so much easier.

This was a quick, spicy read that was well written and had great world building despite its length. I look forward to reading more books in this standalone series!

Plot ⭐⭐⭐
Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️
1st person POV, switches between MCs (Mora, Rozier, Dante, and Cam)

"You belong to us. Until you decide you don’t want us anymore, and even then … we’ll always belong to you, baby.”

Rise of Shadows by TS Snow was short but action packed and dedicated 3 full chapters back to back of smutty goodness. Of course there's other spicy scenes but my god were those 3 chapters filthy. Our FMC, Mora, has been witnessing death her whole life. Because of this, she is unknowingly hunted for being an abomination as she is half human and half other. As it goes, her future lovers have been, in fact, the ones hunting her. They accidentally meet not knowing who, or rather what, she is and Mora finds herself drawn to each of them. She starts up a whirlwind sexual encounter with our resident incubus, Rozier, and from there finds herself making connections with each of the men.

Here's what you need to know:
-Chapters 20-22 (you're welcome 😉)
-So much consent during said chapters. Before and during, they are constantly checking in and making sure Mora is an enthusiastic participant.
-Not much conflict and the threat of her discovery is kind of put on the backburner for a while. They have better things to do, like each other 😏
-For the most part, these grown men (well technically grown incubus, demon, and angel) have mature and rational conversations with each other and what it means to all love Mora. There's a little bit of jealousy in the beginning, but the overarching theme is making sure Mora is loved and happy.

This was a pleasant, low-risk PNR that I enjoyed a lot. Definitely would recommend to someone needing a quick but fun read :)

book 1

Only two complaints, this wasn’t a very long and detailed immersive world- I wish it was, this author has just the right way to hook you and it just keeps you wanting more. I wanted more depth, more interaction, more character development instead of the glossing over that the FMC’s training had. I wanted to to feel like I got to watch the secluded, crafty, hermit grow into a not so secluded hermit. There was a ton of potential to make that happen and I just feel like the author plateaued way too early in the book. I felt like the big defining moment/climax when the guys found out who she was, felt anticlimactic- completely overshadowed by her grief. I would’ve loved to hear about these out of control powers that I still don’t truly understand what she can actually do, maybe hear about her training that she underwent to understand what’s going on. There was just such potential that it was a let down. I’d also like to know what the heck happened to her dad?!

My second complaint which is super petty, I didn’t like them FMCs name: Mora. It was short for something longer but still, In my head I kept saying Moira because Mora just sounded like Moron, and I can’t stand the name Moira… I know dumb as heck, but here we are.

I love the potential that this book has and the author is so talented, I just feel like there was more to explore and it felt like the finished product fell flat.

it was okay but the last 1/3 lost a lot of plot momentum

I really liked this book right off the bat. Interesting concept. Mora has been seeing people she knows die ever since she was younger and she finds out that she isn’t fully human. Add in some demons and angels hunting her and she is in a pickle.

I really liked the power Mora had, it was an interesting twist who her mom was and I liked the whole hunting of Nephilim part of the story. But then the spice happened. Don’t get me wrong, spice isn’t bad but I feel like if it doesn’t fit her the plot it slows the storyline down. For example, a virgin goes to have sex for the first time, a demon with super sex anatomy, then a day later a twosome, a knot and then a foursome. It is like the smut check list the last 1/4 of the book and I feel like it took away from the story.

I would have wanted to know more about Reaper school, how Reapers are chosen, what was the pull the demons had to Mora and why was it so strong, what was Lilith talking about losing another kid, what exactly was the dark power and when the heck did her mom teach her about how dangerous it was? There were so many questions that were brought up to further something in the story but there was no context to it.

Overall it was a fun read but I probably won’t ever reread or read the next book.

I totally inhaled this book! It was hot AF and I didn't want to put it down. It's the perfect self-contained standalone, with a great amount of worldbuilding and more smut than you can shake a vibrator at.

TS is on my always buy list since I love her humour and the way she builds a story. This book doesn't disappoint. Mora has lived a sad and reclusive life due to her powers of being a herald/watcher of death. Anyone, she's met IRL before she'll be drawn to watch their death whether she wants to or not. She basically locked herself away from the world so that she didn't have to deal with it - understandable. Everything kicks off when she gets called away and just can't handle watching death all over again. Her powers explode and the Grim Reaper comes to help her train and protect her from the powers of heaven and hell that will want to kill her for what she is.

Needless to say, there's a lot in here! There's the subplot of the guys - an angel, an incubus and a pain demon - trying to find this anomaly in power as well as the main plot of Mora discovering who and what she is. Everything explodes front and centre when they all meet for the first time.

It is a great and sexy explosion that you'll want to make sure you are alone (or not *wink*) to have some good reading smutty times.

I can't wait to get the next story within this world because I want more!

So the cover drew me in as it was stunning and I was in the mood for a good RH. With this being a stand alone I expected there to be a good amount of smut but it didn’t start until over halfway through the book which was disappointing. One of the scenes was hot but some of them used odd terminology that just had me like what? E.g he continued with his ministrations, maybe it’s just me but I did not find that hot. The story itself had some new elements which I liked but it also had cliches like her being a virgin and her power being unique, I know it’s a whole trope but not one I particularly like. It was also predictable, which if you like the comfort read type books then sure it’s great for that but I prefer a few twists or a little mystery. Finally I found the writing a bit poor in places, like telling rather showing, being a little repetitive and at the start when meeting the characters I felt like I was reading a list of character descriptions rather than being introduced to them. Overall I thought story was an interesting concept I just, for me, poorly executed.

A new must-read RH

Mora has always know to be different from other humans. She thinks she's an harbinger of death for the people she meets as she can see when they die. So to avoid affecting anybody, she isolates herself until one day the truth is revealed and Mora finds out how powerful she is. Forced to train as a grim reaper, she needs to stay away from Angel's as they would try to kill her for what she is. However, when during a night out she meets two demons and an angel, Mora can't stay away from them even if her life is at risk.

I really enjoyed the first half of the book. There are so many steamy scenes and I'm all for it. However what I didn't really like was how Mora had been warned to stay away from angels as they would kill her, but when they find out, there is not much conflict. There was so much buil-up for the fight for when angels would find out about her, that I felt disappointed when I read how easily the problem was solved.

Rushed

This was my first book by this author and I have to say, I'm impressed. I do love a good Standalone. I liked the idea of death having a child. I was disappointed at how rushed everything felt though. Other than being "twisted" we're never actually told why Nephilim are so bad. Also, we never get to see what M's powers are meant for. Why are the shadows so bad? I was really disappointed in the ending. It just felt so rushed and everything just magically worked out. After all that the angels were just fine with it so long as Death fills out the paperwork? Overall, I enjoyed this and I'll check out more from this author, but I think this would have been better as a series.

Good

Mora has had dreams of death her entire life, but it’s only when she gets to meet the Grim Reaper that she finds out why.
She was never supposed to exist, but the demons and angels who are after her might just be the men she could fall for.

This paranormal fantasy has it all; romance, angst, magic… and a happy ending! Despite being the first in a series, it is a complete and contained story, introducing a fascinating world and its intriguing characters.
It’s a fast paced, but well written tale, with an insta-love romance going on between Mora and her men.
An entertaining paranormal RH fantasy for fans of paranormal fantasy and RH.

Did it in 1!

I love this author's books so I might be a tad impartial. I understand that most have series and take time to build a world or characters and of course a following. Even so it is rare these days for a stand alone. This may say book one but it reads as a stand alone and it's good. Very good. I got everything I needed in one book. That's not to say that the author can't add more in this same world. Hopefully she will and have some crossover or continuity because even though I kinda got an HEA I would like to see if Mara and her guys get more down the line.
So I highly recommend this book to all.

Loved

I didn’t think I’d like this book as much as I did. The forewarned info about seeing people die wasn’t as bad as I expected. Maybe I’m not as sensitive as some but I’m kicking myself for not reading this sooner! It was hardly a blip in the radar for me. I enjoyed learning about each character and their pov. I loved how the fmc grew into someone she aspired previously. She got her happy ending, finding several men, some having fun n fancy peens… lol that was a happy surprise for the fmc! Would love to read more about them.

An incubus, a pain demon, an angel and a reaper walk into a bar… except the bar is a demon club and the incubus owns it. So you can totally figure our what happens at this club… and the reaper didn’t know she was a reaper until she met THE grim reaper… add in a dose of mystery, plenty of steam, some extra fancy *ahem* body parts and a socially awkward FMC discovering a new life for herself… it’s a total page turner and best part? It’s a standalone.

This story was really fun to read! The first 70% of the book had me hooked. I loved the storyline and the secret heritage, etc.

The two demons were cool, and I enjoyed reading about them. However, the angel never stopped being a bit of a douche. It’s like there wasn’t enough story for him to be anything more than a whiny loser.

The ending was a bit of a let-down. It felt too abrupt.

The ending, in hindsight, seemed very underwhelming. However, I loved this book. It helped that the characters used Kitten and Pumpkin, not gonna lie, hit too close to home lol.
I definitely thought that Gad(angel) was going to have more of a presence, but I didn’t mind at the same time. Cam got very little presence too, technically. So the harem dynamics were unbalanced a tad. I still loved it, though.
