Quabbin Quills Anthology #4

Beyond the Pathway

Rate this book
Well-worn pathways wind through thickets as easily as they do our minds. Often, the unexpected happens when we diverge from the familiar. The world may turn upside down, strangeness creeps alongside us in the darkness, and a shiver at the back of our neck whispers a warning we often don’t heed.

Join us as we explore 40 contributors from the Quabbin and New England region bringing all new works to explore just what makes us move beyond the intimate, time-worn pathways of life to discover what lies beyond the veil of the common.

Quabbin Quills is a Massachusetts 501(c)(3) nonprofit group consisting of authors banded together by the common love of writing. Our goal is to share information and tools of the trade with other writers as well as providing a platform to display their talents. All profits will be used for future publications, workshops, and scholarships for local high school and college student contributors and participants.

This is a fun collection of paths, ranging from imagination, Reflection, Adventure, Soul!
I am honored to have my story included, a Massachusetts version of "Gas Station Time Machine."

This book is packed full of other stories and poetry of strange pathways and unexpected journeys and were a joy to read. I got a kick out of Allan Fournier's "Crystal Lake," a humorous poem about a childhood road trip, narrated by the old worn station wagon! It felt like a John Hugh's excursion in the movie, Vacation.

What lurks in a mailbox? In Diane Kane's, "Fiona the Fearless," we get a sci-fi horror film perspective from a postal carrier through the seasons. It gives the old creed, "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" a new appreciation!!

Phyllis Cochran's "Splash from the Past" is an ode to the love of waterfalls, puddles, lakes, rivers, Niagara Falls, Ruby Falls in Pennsylvania, and other water attractions that intrigue us to pull over. I have a special love for a Ruby Falls myself, but this one is in a cave in Tennessee. It was a cool pit stop (both in awesomeness and temperature) on the way to Illinois from Orlando as my family moved to a new adventure the summer before my senior year.

Michael R. Young's, "Pilgrim on the Path" is a poignant retelling of nature's beauty and a humorous remedy that renders that beauty.

There are many more stories, including three teenage writers who won scholarships for their entries! Congrats to first place winner Violet Masterson's "Check, Love," second place "Bird Lady" by Jillian Mawaka, and third place "Pause" by Katelyn Stolberg.

So, if you are hankering for a get-away, pick up this quirky collection and sojourn onto unknown paths! You'll never know where they'll lead.

The next Quabbin Quills anthology, Cascades and Currents, debuts in fall 2022. I can't wait to see where the adventures take us next!
