Rate this book
Christmas is a time for love, laughter, families and friends, and in Mermaids Point, everyone is getting ready for the festive season.

For Nerissa and Tom, this will be their first Christmas as a couple, but making sure they have time for each other, whilst blending their families, will take some careful planning. What festive traditions will they make their own?

Laurie and Jake are flat out running Laurie’s seafront café, packaging up orders of mince pies, sausage rolls and other delectable Christmas goodies, as well as finding time for Jake’s journalism. But when Jake’s mum offers them an unexpected gift, their plans are turned upside down.

Alex can’t help but be charmed by beautiful and talented Ivy, but he’s still recovering from his ex-wife’s betrayal and has a secret life he’s not ready to share with anyone yet. But as the Christmas spirit starts weaving its magic, Alex may find himself ready for love sooner than he imagines.

For Andrew, nothing is more important than family. As friends and family gather beneath his roof it’s a time for reflection about what the future might hold.

As far as Nick is concerned, pop sensation Aurora Storm is the ‘one that got away’. After they shared a brief holiday fling, he has been thinking about her ever since. Is Christmas the perfect time to finally reach out to her, or is love at first sight just in fairy-tales?

Sarah Bennett captures the joy of Christmas perfectly in these captivating vignettes. Christmas Surprises at Mermaids Point is a guaranteed joy for fans of Mermaids Point and new readers alike

Four and a half Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭒
Christmas Surprises at Mermaids Point by Sarah Bennett is a heartwarming and charming novella that acts as an epilogue to the first two books in her Mermaid Point series, Summer Kisses at Mermaid Point and Autumn Dreams at Mermaid Point. And also acts as a prologue to her next two books as she sets the scene for at least two more stories.

We meet up with all the characters of Mermaid point and see what they are up to as they prepare for Christmas at Mermaid point. We look again at Tom and Nerissa and Jake and Laurie and see how those romances are moving along. We also take a glimpse at Ivy and Alex who has a connection, but nothing has been done about it yet. And we also look at Nick and Aurora and see what they are up to in their very separate lives (for now?).

I enjoyed re-visiting the characters of Mermaid Point and Christmas Surprises at Mermaid point only makes me want to read the rest of the series as soon as possible.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has read and enjoyed the other books in the Mermaid Point series. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a great little Christmas novella that highlights the need for an extra measure of understanding and thoughtfulness at this time of year. It’s not often that we read about blended families and parents moving on with their life after the death of a spouse. What I liked about this one was that it brought to light those who are struggling. It’s not all family togetherness, Christmas carols, festive baking and pristine snow for everyone. The author sheds light on those who put on a brave face as the merriment begins and writes to allow us space to develop empathy for them.

While it was a short novella, it walked the fine line between o.k. and too cutesy for me and I struggled to connect to the characters. It’s completely on me because this is book 2.5 in the series and readers who started at book one have already been introduced to the characters. The purpose of this book was a quick catch up with the characters, so each chapter is from a different point of view. Unfortunately, it wasn’t long enough for me to connect or become invested.

I’d suggest starting from the beginning with this series as it is not a stand-alone book.

This is a short novella set in Mermaids Point. It was nice to connect with all the characters we'd met in the previous two instalments of the series and in a slightly Christmassy atmosphere.

I loved the fact that the author gives us a preview of the next two instalments in her note at the end of the book. Can't wait to read them all!

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review.

A warm holiday novella featuring some returning characters from Mermaid's point. We also get to meet some new characters as well. This was a light quick read that I enjoyed.
Looking forward to reading the next installment in the series.

This is a very sweet and endearing Christmas novella, a peek into the lives of several lovely couples embarking on their love stories. I wish that each story had been a bit longer, but it makes me want to read more about these characters.

This fell flat for me. I’m usually a fan of this series and I enjoy the characters but this format didn’t work. Too many character thoughts for such a short story and the end felt very cut off. I’m hoping with the next book that it’s back to a nice fun readable format. I wouldn’t mind reading a whole book about Sylvia and Andrew and their empty nest!

If you are looking for a short little Christmas book to uplift you and help you through the day, then this sweet story will be just the thing for you, and it is such a treat. I really enjoyed it!

We are taken back to the lives of Nerissa and Tom, Laurie and Jake, Alex and Ivy, and Andrew, as well as Nick and Aurora. As we catch up with them all again once more at Mermaid's point, we are given a bit of Christmas delight, to leave us feeling sparkly and full of joy.

Highly recommended!

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

I read the two previous books in this series and totally enjoyed them, so naturally I want to continue reading the rest of this series. This is a novella, book 2.5. It is a great build up to book 3, which will be released in the Spring of 2022. There is also a final(?) book planned for Christmas of 2022.

At first, I did not realize it was a novella. Reading the kindle version, I do not see the size a of book unless I focus on the number of pages, which I usually do not. So, when it ended abruptly, I was taken aback. Several sub plots were moving along, building to action happening, and then it was over! I definitely will be reading book 3 as soon as possible.

I love the town of Mermaid’s Point and the wonderful characters that the author has created. The strong family unit is one of the things I love about this series. Whether you are a blood relative or a friend, you are treated as a cherished family member.

I want to thank Boldwood Books and NetGalley for giving me the pleasure of reading the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.

This little novella, is like a Christmas Present from Sarah Bennett for fans of all her books, but most importantly if you have fallen in love with Mermaids Point and everyone that lives there.

Here we are taken back to some of the characters we know well – Jake and Laurie, the main story of the first book. Laurie busy running her little café in the run up to Christmas, with some help from Jake, when he is not writing for the local newspaper are both stunned when Jake’s mother gives them an option for them to consider for their future.

Laurie’s brother Nick, has still not got over the Aurora who swept into his life and Mermaids Point in the first book and the ghost of her has been hovering for a while

Nerissa and Tom are finding their feet as a couple and Nerissa is finding her role as stepmother and friend to his children. Christmas can be a difficult time so it seems.

Alec, Tom’s brother rocks up and flirt unashamedly with everyone, including Laurie’s friend Ivy. It seems that there is something about Ivy. But Ivy has to deal with the immediate future and her mum, she hasn’t got time for distractions.

Andrew Morgan, the patriarch of the Morgan family, Laurie and Nick’s father; Nerissa brother loves everyone to be around at Christmas. What better way is there to spend your time with all those who you love and cherish whether they be family of friends. As his children fly the nest what is going to be next for him and Sylvia.

This book gives us the reader a glimpse into the lives of those we have got to know, but also hints at the stories that are yet to come and I can see at least two if not three that could be bubbling away here. Could Mermaids Point be part of our lives for a while longer?

A perfect taste of Mermaids Point and the enjoyment there is to be had by visiting. It is lovely to be able to catch up with the people and the place in between full stories. More authors need to do this!

Christmas Surprises at Mermaids Point by Sarah Bennett is a wonderful, sweet, and festive novella that is a great addition to an amazing series.

This book ties in with its predecessors: Summer Kisses and Autumn Dreams at Mermaids Point. While one does not have to read the previous two books to enjoy this one, it honestly would enhance your experience if you did so.

I loved the inclusion of past characters and introduction of some new/tied in characters for this one. It left me feeling warm, fuzzy, happy, hopeful, and in the Christmas spirit.

I love this series and am looking forward to the next book.

A sweet return to Mermaids Points just in time for Christmas, but it definitely left me wanting more.

It's a glimpse into the lives and loves of the inhabitants of Mermaids Point as they prepare for Christmas in this novella. We catch up with Jake and Laurie, and Tom and Nerissa and their plans for the future. Nick is still pining a little bit after Aurora left him behind and Alex secretly dreams about Ivy, but his life is a bit of a mess at the moment.

It was a quick, charming read. I enjoyed catching up with the characters from the first two books. And I am excited to read Nick's and Alex's stories, hopefully soon. The teasers into what lies ahead for these two left me feeling quite a bit frustrated as well as excited. It was over too soon.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have only read the first book in this charming series, so I was looking forward to catching up with the community and seeing if any of the budding romances had developed. Although this can be read as a stand alone novella I did feel that I should have read the Autumn book first to fully appreciate the character arcs.

With lots of characters and romances it packed a lot of story for only 122 pages. While not only giving us a catch up but also introducing some more characters for further books.

With beautifully descriptive writing and a delightful warmth to her characters this is a nice quick read that can be savoured over a mug of hot chocolate or two.

The lovely characters from the series reunite for the festive season.

Christmas Surprises at Mermaids Point is a sweet novella that brings the reader back to the seaside town of Mermaids Point during the most festive season of the year.

It was lovely to see a happy Nerissa with Tom and his kids, the old and steady love between Andrew and Sylvia, and to get a glimpse of what is yet to come in the following books.

I can't wait to read Ivy and Alex's and Nick and Aurora's HEA!

Lovely short read! Great for all fans of the series!

This was a fabulous novella and was brilliant to pay another visit to mermaids point and to get a bit more back story on the characters and to also get to spend Christmas at the point. This was so much more than just a simple Christmas story and was a novella that delved deeper into the Friendships love and past lives of the characters and how by having each other and the point on their side it gives them the strength to reach out to new adventures and courage to be the best version of themselves. I can’t wait for more of this series as these books are not only relatable real life but also perfect escapism.

I didn’t realize this was part of a series. I was expecting more of a Christmas story. I guess it was just a glimpse of what was going on with the characters that probably were in the previous books. Anyone who wants to read this should read the previous ones first. I thought it was just ok

Absolutely not a stand alone. Don’t jump into the series here. Instead of a cohesive story we get chapter after chapter after chapter introducing us to a huge cast of characters. I should have made a chart because by the end I was overwhelmed with characters and had only the vaguest idea of how they were connected. They seem like lovely people though.

Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

I love a Christmas book at anytime of the year, so when I saw the cover for this one and read the synopsis I thought it would be right up my street. I hadn't realised how short the book was, or that I hadn't read the previous book in the Mermaids Point series. Whilst this did hinder my reading somewhat as I had no background on the characters, as the book is just focused around the festive period I was able to keep track.

There are quite a lot of characters to follow in the book, all on their own path in life and facing different dilemmas. It was fun finding out about them all but I have to say I didn't really click with any of the characters. Again this maybe because I haven't read the previous book.

the writing style was nicely done and a lot of topics are covered in the book, things that most people dealing with daily. Juggling a new relationship with children involved. Becoming a step parent. Moving on after the end of a marriage a bereavement. All handled like you're one of the locals nipping into cafe so a chinwag.

I would definitely read other books by the author, but this book just didn't grip my attention.

Expected publication date 22nd October 2021.

The story
I recently read Summer Kisses at Mermaids Point and the eARC of Autumn Dreams at Mermaids Point. This novella set at Christmas time introduces Doctor Tom’s brother Alex and the situation with his ex-wife that led to him writing a book. Laurie’s friend Ivy is a great seamstress, and we learn that her mother is dying and close to going into a hospice. Laurie’s brother Nick misses singer Aurora who he met when she came to Mermaids Point. Jake’s mother Linda is planning a three month world cruise before she decides what to do with her future.

My thoughts
This teasing story feels like a little palate cleanser between courses of the two books already released and the two future books that promise to focus on Alex and then Nick. The books come out in 2022 only 😞 I have really enjoyed this sweet series that feels like it should be showing as a artsy British TV series. I will be looking out for the two follow up books for sure! 🥰📚I don’t think it would be worthwhile reading this without at least reading one or two of the previous books in the series.

Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Publishers for the eARC of this book.

An unforgettable Christmas for our friends at Mermaids Point

Our beloved friends are ready for the Christmas season. New couple Nerissa and Tom are celebrating their first Christmas together, trying to find the perfect blend of different traditions and struggling to find some ‘couple – time’.
Laurie and Jake are both drowing in work, between Jake’s new article and Laurie’s mince pies,… and then an offer comes from Jake’s mother making them rethink about all their plans.
Meanwhile is Alex struggling after being betrayed by his now ex – wife, and has his own secret carrying around. But still cannot forget Ivy…
For Andrew, friends and family is the most important thing on earth. So he is more than happy to have all his loved ones under this roof during the holidays. But Christmas is also the perfect time to think about the future.
And Nick finds it impossible to forget Aurora Storm, the popstar who he had a holiday fling with…

You know what made me very angry after finishing this book? It left me with so many unanswered questions! This means that now I am FORCED to read every next part of the series!!! And not just because I want answers to my questions, but I also want to see my beloved friends again and want to fall in love with the characters that absolutely deserve their own book!
So congratulations Sarah Bennett, I am totally hooked!

Even if each person/ couple has a limited spotlight, the author manages perfectly to show each time what makes each one of them so unique and loveable.
And having all of them together for Christmas, was a magical treat! The love each character has for the other one, family, lover, it doesn’t matter, is something that sparks from each page.

Not each character is having an easy time, and while I would have loved to read more about it, I also understand that it wasn’t possible to put it all in this book.
Some stories almost broke my heart, especially as it apparently it would seem impossible that there would be a happy end.
But I have all the faith in this lovely author, that she will manage to make all the wrongs right again!

Of course I wasn’t really angry after finished reading this book, but as I love the characters so much, I just wanted MORE!
If you are, just like me, totally besotted with Mermaids Point and its inhabitants, you will find it impossible to skip this teaser, giving us a wonderful Christmas feeling, but also glimpses of what we may expect in the future for these great characters!

I am so excited to get the chance to do a visit to Mermaids Point in the winter and over Christmas. This time in the form of a novella which felt like I’d made an overnight visit rather than a longer one – perfect for some quick escapism from my bed on a cold night.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I love Mermaids Point. As with all her communities and settings, Sarah has once again created a place where the reader feels welcome and part of the community. It feels like a place that I visit regularly and I know inside out.
What I love about this instalment is that it revisits Nerissa and Laurie form previous books in the linked series and delves a little into newer characters which fills me with hope that there are more Mermaids Point books to come next year (I’ve heard there are 2 more). It’s a great bridge and a good introduction to the characters for readers new to Mermaids Point.
I love the setting although I could feel the bitter winds and cold. I could almost taste the cakes and drinks at Laurie’s café.
Gorgeous characters with their entwined vignettes, a wonderful setting and whole dollop of community make Christmas Surprises a fab little escape from reality. I highly recommend this series.

I love this description: UNWRAP AND ENJOY THIS BITE-SIZED CHRISTMAS TREAT FROM BESTSELLING AUTHOR SARAH BENNETT. THE PERFECT STOCKING-FILLER! There are two books before this one, and I recommend your read them all in order. It's Christmas time in Mermaid's Point and everyone is getting ready for the holidays. Two couples from the previous books, Nerissa & Tom and Laurie & Jake are getting ready for their first Christmas as a couple and blended family. Decisions need to be made and families need compromise their holiday traditions. Other characters are dealing with their own issues, but hope and love are in the air.

This is a sweet book with familiar characters and new ones. Other reviewers suggest it is an epilogue for the first two books and an introduction to the next, which does make sense. Sarah Bennett mentions this in her notes. I do enjoy her series and characters and this one is no exception. This is a very sweet and endearing Christmas novella, a peek into the lives of several lovely couples embarking on their love stories. I am ready to read the rest of the series, so you better get writing, Sarah.

Christmas Surprises at Mermaids Point - Sarah Bennett

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books and I am leaving this review voluntarily

Unfortunately I struggled to connect with this book, as a reader reading this as a standalone it was hard to keep track of the characters. It is a cosy book with plenty of Christmas spirit, I just would have liked a bit more detail that would have allowed it to be a standalone.

Rating 3/5

A novella sitting firmly between two prequels and two sequels thus it’s number 2.5 in The Mermaid Point Series. There are a lot of characters for such a short book so I think reading the earlier books would be a good idea. That said it was an charming cosy read for lovers of a Christmas book.

Briefly, there are five separate mini stories about a family and friends group of people all living in Mermaid Point. Decisions about who will spend Christmas with who and what will the New Year offer them.

A good quick read that was enough to make me want to read the series and find out the fates of the different characters. Enjoyable ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read.

Christmas Surprises at Mermaids Point is a short holiday novella from the Mermaids Point series. I was super excited to read this book because I wanted to see what happened to Tom and Nerissa, who had gotten together at the end of the previous book. Thankfully I only had to wait a couple of weeks to see what happened to them. I loved this book, it was light and fluffy everything that I would expect from a short holiday read.

This book is structured differently from what I thought it would be; every chapter is from a different character’s POV. I both loved and hated how this book was set up. I enjoyed reading the story from other characters’ POVs. It was a lot of fun to see how each character was spending the holiday. But a part of me had wanted to spend more time with each character. All the characters in this series are charming, fabulous and I just felt I didn’t get to spend enough time with them. LOL I just love this series so much, I wished this book would have been a full novel. I can’t get enough of these characters.

It’s always a joy to escape to the charming seaside town of Mermaids Point and best-selling author Sarah Bennett has just the ticket this Christmas with a delicious novella full of your favourite characters getting ready to celebrate the holidays: Christmas Surprises at Mermaids Point.

Nerissa and Tom cannot wait to spend their first Christmas together as a couple. However, they soon realise that having the perfect Christmas takes a lot of careful planning and organizing as they find themselves juggling busy schedules, family commitments and all manner of duties and responsibilities. Will Nerissa and Tom’s first Christmas end up being their last? Laurie and Jake are another loved-up couple who are certainly being run ragged this Christmas. The two of them are busy running a café and trying to find time for Jake’s journalism. But the biggest scoop of all is Jake’s mum turning up with an unexpected gift that threatens to derail everything…

Meanwhile, Alex is completely bowled over by beautiful and talented Ivy, but still recovering from his ex-wife’s betrayal, Alex is terrified of putting his heart on the line again and getting hurt in the process. But when Christmas comes to Mermaids Point, there is plenty of magic in the air which makes Alex wonder whether the time has come for another chance at happiness. Andrew and Nick are also thinking about what the future might hold for them. Will Andrew find the answers he seeks during Christmas time? And will Nick reach out to the one that got away – even if she happens to be a very famous pop star?

Love, laughter and a few tears, this Christmas will certainly be one the residents of Mermaids Point won’t forget in a hurry!

In the hustle and bustle of the festive season, take some time out of your busy schedule to curl up with this delightful and warm-hearted novella from the fabulous Sarah Bennett. Christmas Surprises at Mermaids Point will make you laugh and cry and have you counting down the days until Sarah Bennett’s next book set in this enchanting town.

Witty, emotional and immensely enjoyable, Sarah Bennett’s Christmas Surprises at Mermaids Point is a joyous festive treat you are going to love.
