Still Enjoying the Series, but this Felt Like Filler

Not as good as previous volumes, but still happy for another installment of the daily life of Red and Rit.

The main arc in the volume felt like a filler to start the next story arc but they kinda forgot to start the next story arc and then only briefly hinted at it in the epilogue. Majority of the book was Red searching for an engagement ring, but even having recently reread the series, I didn't recall him and Rit proposing like that.

The character sketches at the start also mentioned the dwarf forging a sword for red, not that I remember it even breaking let alone getting repaired. Though thinking about it, I believe he did craft a shotel for Al (?), so maybe I read it wrong or Red's name was used instead of Al's by accident.

I did enjoy the slice of life of the solstice festival as well as the epilogue however, and can't wait til June when the next volume should be translated.

This was a satisfying, character driven story that amounted to no more than a side-quest, but kept my attention from beginning to end. There were warm and funny moments, a little bit of turtle doving, and adventure. The story was original content for the novels, not based on the web novels, and the overall plot had nothing to do with the hero arch. Zappos is quite skilled at writing slow paced, slice-of-life dramas that still keep my ADHD-fueled interest.

There is a point in a series when you have to decide if the series is going to end or if all new characters and issues need to be added to the mix. This story is hesitating to take either path. The book, while not bad, was a lot of plot stretching.

Truthfully the story became rather boring at this point. Many filler in the story, the main story barely progressing and maybe we know what next volume would conveys.

Banished from the Hero's Party 5 continues where 4 ended. Red returns to the slow life he wanted, and the volume comes with a nice dose of romance, a bit of action and some minor world development (mostly on the culture of some fairly unique monsters). It is a single story, although the epilogue hints for more in the next volume. Personally I like the elf Yarandrala, she is actively encouraging Red and Rit and comes across as a bit tragic and intense. As for Ruti, yeah, she makes a comment or two about her goals towards her brother, which can be somewhat off putting. She does not act upon them and, as Red points out, her emotional upbringing was rather skewed. I hope she finds her centre. So I would say: a volume for those wanting a bit of a slow-life romance with a bit of action and a nice addition to the series.
