Two sisters, born seconds apart, twenty-five years ago. Non-identical, in every single possible way. Born together, yet so different. The youngest, Rose, lowbrow and sex-hungry. The eldest, Violet, an intellectual and dreamer. They will never see eye to eye, and it will take a man to drive them apart...
fucked. absolutely fucked. fell in love with this pair of sisters and their stark different personalities. but wow. you could never truly envision the madness that ensues between the covers of this novella. absolutely brutal, addicting, and vile. read this one, you won't regret it.
This is one of those stories that will leave you with your mouth hanging wide open and asking yourself, 'What did I just read?'. Don't get me wrong. It made perfect sense. I'm not confused. Maybe I'm shocked? MAYBE. I really don't know. It was definitely clever.
This is an early, slimmed down review - I'll update on 10/2
My 'a-ha!' moment turned everything upside down! I almost started over just to make sure that I shouldn't have realized what was happening any time sooner, lol. This got me even more invested in the characters, and this guy isn't a helpless romantic with a sad story... He's a skeezy player. Neither one of them should be messing with this PoS. But, as we know with short stories, I can't tell you anything else about this without fear of ruining your 'a-ha!' moment.
Well I do believe this will be last of the horror books. Although well written, emotional. The two books I have read by Ms West could have been better without the extreme scenes. But it does say ‘extreme horror’ so I shouldn’t complain.
I can't really say much without giving the whole book away. I really liked it a lot but hated the bad things! How clever was the beginning until you figured out the main thing about the girls. Definitely a must read!
“People like pain. Sometimes, they like to cause pain. They like to drink piss or blood – they like all sorts of different things, Violet, and who are you to say which of them is right or wrong? I would say that you lack empathy if you can’t see that. You’re not as open-minded and as tolerant as you think you are.”
For conjoined sisters Rose and Violet life was never meant to be full of cherished love, instead captivated by the knowledge they were their mothers dirty little secret. Following the death of their father at a young age, the two were raised in isolation with only the other to act as company, except there was something more hearth wrenching above their abandonment. Both shared many organs, yet theirs hearts were different. Each girl shared the vessel that controlled the air in their shared lungs, and the motions of their limbs. Two different heads conjoined by the neck, they relied on one another for basic functions so many others take for simple granite. Since the day they were born a resentment was brewing between Rose and her prettier sister Violet, something bound to explode. It would take Rose on a fetishized site to being thirty seven year old Sean Reid to their doorway and set their worlds on fire. Drawn by the freak show, the differences from a normal woman, Sean craved a taboo sex that took him back to his life as a conjoined twin. Attached to his parasitic brother Robert who died during the operation to separate the two, he could slip into that malicious persona with little warning, something the girls would soon discover.
“I still feel him,” Sean says. “It’s like he’s always here with me, and sometimes he speaks to me. He’ll never leave me; our souls are entwined.”
The distraction he was looking for presented itself by having sex with Violet, and providing Rose the triggering reality of a brutal rape. As Robert lunges at them with a knife, he began carving the two girls literally in half. Horrified by the pain and the comforting pulls of death, the girls found so lance and comfort by holding their hands together and looking far out of his tortured eyes.
“I was wrong about everything. About life. I used to think that escaping into my mind and ignoring my sexuality was a form of intellectual freedom, but now I know it was a prison of my own making all along. Sean set me free.” <\b>
“I came back in the woom on my tummy when you were fighting. You thound angwy,” he says in the creepiest, lisping, childlike voice – a voice that would put Michael Jackson to shame. “Mummy sayth you thouldn’t fight; it’th naughty.”
My sister and I lie naked together on the bed, her sated after satisfactory lovemaking, me traumatised after a brutal rape.
This was such an amazing, disturbing but brilliantly wrote story and it was my 1st one I've read of Sam's so yeah I totally agree you should be able to write whatever you like! It works for me!👍 well done Sam can't wait to read your next book 😊
Wasn't sure what to expect from this book but wow I didn't expect that!! I hate spoiler reviews so I won't say anymore than that but pick it up and have a read it's a whole new level of crazy! It's short but certainly not sweet, really enjoyed it
3.5 Honestly this was gross and I enjoyed it. The first typo appears on page 2, bothered me more than any of the content. Made me want to reread Geek Love
I spoiled this one for myself about 20 pages in but that’s what I get for reading reviews of novellas. That’s not what earned it one star.
What did was the fact that nothing was explained. I don’t need stories spoon fed to me, I like things being left to the reader’s interpretation. However, there’s nothing to ponder over here, it simply just happened.
From the reveal, it’s the blandest descriptions possible. Maybe it’s what I’ve subjected myself to previously, maybe it’s not in Wests’ nature to be overly descriptive, but this just didn’t hit the heights of extreme for me.
Overall, if you’re looking for a place to start with extreme horror, maybe give this a try. If you’re a seasoned veteran, maybe give it a miss. Idk I’m not your mother.
This is one of those reads that you sort of know what's going to happen or should I say guess but then there is so much more to it it than you first expect. You experience a world that we could not comprehend to truly understand. Which has to crashing into a whole New life and how things happen. A fantastic and fascinating storyline, with a good few twists that grips you hard. You definitely need to read it to understand, one of truly recommend
