Wow. I admit I'm fairly new to the fantasy genre, but books like this make me sad I've not read it for so much of my reading life!
This is a stonker of a debut. A mixture of magic and fantasy, but so compelling even to newbies like me.
Great characters, and a book you can't put down.
I just hope there's plans for further installments!

I very much enjoyed this book. The story is well written and keeps you on your toes. The characters are relatable and I really felt for the lead character. I would recommend this book to all my friends and really hope for a complete series. The end was excellent and a twist no one would see coming!!!

I took this book on a multiday backpacking trip with me because I couldn't leave it at home once I'd started it. The character's actions are relatable, her feelings immediate, and it is easy to get into the head of this spitfire of a character. The author takes urban fantasy in a new direction and does a great job using the hell on earth motif in a new and unexpected way. This book has serious series potential, and I can't wait to see where the author takes it.

I’m so proud of my fellow publishing buddy! Especially since we both came from the hellscape that was our last publisher lol. I never read the originally published version, but I can tell Jayme has poured so much hard work into this story and I had a blast reading it, I flew through it in a day :) it was a perfect beach read for me. I loved all the antics Anna got herself into and I can’t wait for the next one!

This is a story that will keep you reading even when you need to stop and get some sleep. The descriptions help you see the town and people. The chemistry between the characters keeps you reaching for more, and sometimes crying from frustration. Great story.

I hope there are more coming with these main characters because I want to learn more about them and follow in some of their adventures. Definitely would be in for a good time.

It’s hard to believe this is the debut novel of this awesome new author. I got an ARC through a Facebook group, and I had zero expectations for this book. However, I was thrilled with the character development and world building. I felt like I was behind the bar pouring whiskey with Anna, and certainly felt by her side in the ups and downs and twists and turns of figuring out what the heck is going on in her life. I can’t wait to see what’s next with Anna and the rest of the gang.

I can’t believe this is Jayme’s debut book. This book flows well, and I screamed “Noooo!” at the end of the book because I was not ready for it to be over. She sets up the characters, and gives readers real insight to the main character’s emotions. Jayme caught me off guard a few times with things I did not see coming. I loved it all. I can’t wait for more books to follow.

In the Devil’s intern, you meet Anna, who is soulless, meaning she sold her soul to the Devil, but gets to remain on Earth after her death. Soulless are extremely rare in the supernatural world. However, Anna is not entirely happy about her situation, since she cannot leave the city limits, stopping her from visiting her family. Anna works as a bartender at Idir, a bar owned by Matt, her lover (and fairie). She rents a room at a church, which is ironic considering her soul situation. Anna seems to have trouble following her wherever she goes, no matter how much she tries to avoid it. She also has this cool power that comes with being soulless, where she can absorb someone else’s magic for a short time after touching them.

The story flowed pretty seamlessly, and I found myself wanting to read more to see what happens next, finishing the book within a few days after starting it. I could have read it more quickly, but adulting interfered.

The characters were believable (for supernatural beings ;) ). I would have liked a little more backstory for a few of the characters, but that could always be shared in future books in the series. Matt, her lover, boss, and fairie, is a kind, caring character who wants to support Anna despite the problems that seem to follow her. Nate, a shifter in hiding, is her friend and coworker at Idir, who is responsible for Anna meeting Rachel, a witch who has had her powers lessened due to being on probation for not following the rules. Rachel becomes one of Anna’s friends by accident after Anna saves her from an attack. Rachel sticks her neck out to save Anna from being sent to the Prism (a supernatural jail). Silas, the devil himself, is portrayed just as I would assume he would be; slick, sly, and conniving. Stephen is the gorgeous blonde reaper who made the contract for Anna’s soul after an unfortunate incident left her on her deathbed. The other minor characters are written into the story well.

Anna struggles with trying to find a way out of her contract with the Devil, which takes her down a path of becoming more involved with Silas and Stephen, whether she likes it or not. In her quest to try to find an “out” of her contract, she gets entangled more into the supernatural world and starts to find out that some people are lying.

I found myself relating to Anna, who struggles between being good and thankful for what she has, yet wanting more. I would have loved a bit more of a backstory of how Anna started working at Idir and met Matt. The cliffhanger at the end made me a little annoyed, since it ended so abruptly after such a pivotal turning point in the story.

I would recommend this book to anyone who liked paranomal/fantasy fiction with a strong female lead and likes a bit of mystery that leaves you wondering what will happen next. I would give this book a 4 out of 5. I liked that it was a quick read, but I wish that the author would have ended it a bit differently so it was so much of a cliffhanger. I am, however, anxious to read the next book to see what happens to Anna.

Devil's Intern is a story about Anna who is dead and is now serving her sentence on the Earth. A pure fantasy fiction, it is a unique take on life after death and soul reaping as understood by different religions. In this story, the people who are dead are either sent to hell or made to stay on the Earth to serve their sentence. Despite being on the Earth and living a pretty much human life, they can't meet their loved ones and are guided by serious principles, which if not followed can lead them to the prism—the jail of their worst fears.

The title is relevant, but I found the cover to not be the right representation of the plot. The surroundings give no idea about the setting of the story. The personality of the characters as described in the story does not seem to be the same as depicted in the picture.

Language is lucid and easy to understand. The story is well-paced and keeps the reader hooked from the beginning when one is introduced to the scene and an exciting world of witches, warlocks, vampires, and psychics.

Characters are rounded and serve their purpose well.
Anna is a soulless, commonly known as void, an exception in this fantasy world. She is a psychic and can understand people's intentions by seeing the colour of their eyes. She discovers her ability to sign deals with people, which involves them having to give up their souls in return for a favour. This ability leads her into a serious trouble when she is asked to work under the Devil and reap more souls.
Rachel is a witch. The witch community is generally apprehensive of Anna, but Rachel becomes her good friend after Anna saves her.
Matt, a fairy, is Anna's lover and is supportive whenever she needs him. He is one of the most adorable characters of the story.
Stephan is a soul reaper who signs the deal with Anna in the first place and leads her to the hellish life she is living.
Silas, the Devil, a lawyer for the human world, is the one for whom Stephan works. He receives the reaped souls and passes his judgement for the sentence they would be serving.

The story is written in first person, past tense. The author takes a quick detour through a flashback to tell us about Anna's back story and later, the story unfolds chronologically.

There were several questions in story that were left unanswered and have a scope for further development. But I am hoping that those would be answered in the upcoming sequel.

Definitely recommended if you are looking for a unique theme in fantasy genre and an easy read.

If your anything like me who isn’t sure on warlocks or voids and doubt yourself when you read a name if it’s a place or a person then you’ll 100% love this. Honestly I usually get so confused with these sort of reads but the way the author describes everything with detail is like your reading your first magical book and for that I was extremely thankful. I loved reading about fairies and pixies and educating myself on the differences. I loved how the writing was written with reference of the super natural fantasy world but clearly with switches from normal human every day lives if that makes sense.

For me it got exceptionally good when I started to know and understand the giving the soul to the devil. Learning about not being mortal anymore was just exciting but heartbreaking at the same time. It’s so easy to just like all the characters you get to know from Matt to Nate and even Bruce. The flow of this was perfect and the author gives you snippets to intrigue you in every chapter. There are times when it’s painful to read especially with the assault situation so a little warning with that in advance.

I absolutely love Anna as a character and her journey of her being soulless but finding out her hidden talents if you can call it that. It’s such an enjoyable read that takes you on a whole unexpected adventure. I don’t usually enjoy books like this but I certainly now want to read this genre more. Absolutely loved it. Would I sell my soul though if I was Anna and leave my twins behind?

What did I just read?! And I definitely don't mean that in a negative way because I am shook from this book and that ending!

I really enjoyed the fact that I truly didn't know what this book was entirely about. I was given a brief synopsis but most was still unknown. This is her debut novel? I am blown absolutely away.

I was hooked from literally the first chapter. I felt like I could relate to Anna in certain situations and the world building surrounding the bar, coworkers etc. was very vivid where you can visualize it in your head.

The book has a great flow with being fast paced in parts where you definitely want it to be but then it also slows down a bit when she is talking with her coworkers and such. There is definitely a great blend of when it needs to be fast and slowed. I felt like this author had wrote several books up to this point because it flows well, has great world building and the characters are developed excellent. It read like it was the 4th or 5th book she's written not the first!

My overall opinion of the book is, you will definitely want to pick this up if you love to discover new authors, if you love to read stories that are different and fleshed out, and you will want to read this if you like a read that grabs you and doesn't let you go until the end and then has you gasping because you want the next book in the series.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. I am so happy I got to read this book, it was quite phenomenal.

Vampires? Seen it. Demons? Done again and again. Angels? Pfft, libraries are full of them. This book however is a one of a kind. It combines the supernatural and fantastical with known religious afterlife elements for an unexpected adventure. The main character is relatable and the other characters are sympathetic (or completely unlikable, depending on what the author was going for at the time). It’s a well rounded story that moves quickly and keeps you on your toes asking, “What’s next?” Yes, this is a debut, and could use a deeper edit (just minor things that most wouldn’t notice, really), but don’t let that stop you from picking up the book and immersing yourself in this fun world. I loved it! I can’t wait to see what the author puts out next as she evolves in her writing abilities, because it’s obvious she’s got a knack for telling stories.

In Devils Intern, Anna is dead and sold her sold to the devil, so she is serving her sentence on Earth in a small town as a bartender. The local community is mostly witches and they don't like people like her, so she's basically ostracized. Until Rachel, who is a witch befriends her and takes her in. She also starts making deals for the devil.

Then Rachel sells her soul and dies soon after. Anna wants to save her friends soul, but in order to do that, she has 5 days to find a selfless soul! Is she able to do that and save her friend?

This was a short and sweet read! The book is less than 200 pages, so its very easy to get through and its really interesting! I definitely enjoyed it.

Would I recommend it?
Hell yeah! It was great. Check it out when it comes out, if you can.

There are those that call New Mexico The Land of Enchantment and those that call it The Land of Entrapment. For Anna, it's most definitely the latter. After making a deal with the devil, Anna (sans soul) is sentenced to spend eternity in Albuquerque.

The author gives us a cast of relatable, well-developed, quirky characters that take part in Anna's adventures and misadventures as she attempts to reclaim her soul. This new authors has written a first rate story and provides a fresh take on the urban fantasy genre. Looking forward to her next book.

I received this book as an ARC with the expectation that I would provide an honest and unbiased review. Well I loved this book and my fingers are crossed that this first time author will allow us to join Anna on further adventures.

This story will captivate you from the beginning. Anna has no idea what she did in a panic to save her life but she is about to find out and the cost is dear.
She can't tell anyone and suddenly friends are dropping like flies! She has no idea what is going on. She has a menttor with her new deal but in the end she discovers exactly who and what she is. Her journey is just beginning.
The story pace is great. Keeps you interested from beginning to end because the people come alive right off the page and into the room with you.
This is Ms. Phelps first book. I can't wait to read more of her work to come!

The book is well paced and has a bit of a different twist on the usual paranormal/supernatural genre. I enjoyed it immensely and barely put it down except to go to sleep!
The main character is believable but also leaves a bit of a mystery about her origins and definitely makes you want to know/read more!
I highly recommend this book if you want to read something fresh and not “the same old same old”.
I can’t wait for the next book to come out as I’m left wondering what is going to happen next!

I loved this. This is a modern day, supernatural story with attitude and sarcasm, love, murder and good old fashioned Hell on Earth.

Anna is a great main character, she is fearless in some situations and vulnerable in others, shows a caring and a weak side and is loyal as anything. She somehow managed to make a deal with Silas.A.Tan - her life for her soul.

I so hope there are more in this series, it was so easy to read and kept me gripped and entertained all the way through. I’m definitely keeping this author on my radar.

Amazing! One of the better books I’ve read in a long time and I didn’t want it to end. Anna signs a contract which changes her life forever and enters a prison like life where the highlight of her time is tending bar. When things start to change it’s where you are fully drawn in.

I was provided an ARC for an honest review and I absolutely loved it!! I’m already wanting to read the next book, which is the only disappointing factor - not sure of when it will come out!! Great debut Jayme!!

This was a fun, intriguing, quick paced read with easy to follow scenes . A very interesting, slightly offbeat approach to your typical paranormal book. Jayme creates interesting, believable characters that find themselves in situations that quickly develop into the unexpected. Twists and turns are lovely! I will definitely recommend this book to friends. Also, I cannot wait for the next one!

I was an ARC reader and provided a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Instantly hooked from the start & drawn into the not so 'magicial' world of the supernatural, Anna takes us the heartache & turmoil of her life whilst being dead!
Fabulously written, Phelps takes us on a journey that has you biting your lips & turning pages eagerly whilst desperately hoping for it not to end.
Thrilling, exciting & addictive, Phelps writing has the caliber of a great fantasy fiction writer - incredible this is her debut!! I can't wait to read more of her work!

Wicked debut from writer Jayme Phelps! Anna is a flawed but gutsy heroine that you can’t help but root for. As someone who has spent a few years working behind a bar, I truly loved Anna’s interactions with her co-workers and patrons. There are twists and turns and I didn’t want it to end. I was provided an ARC for an honest review and I really can’t wait to see what comes next!

This is an intriguing story about a fantasy world of witches, warlocks, fairies, and other magical creatures—including a devil names Silas. The main character unwittingly looses her soul, but not her life. This situation leads her to become an intern, making deals for the devil. Anna, however, is a likable character who still seems to have a soul.
