The House of Rotting Flesh

Rate this book
WARNING: This book contains scenes of explicit violence and gore.

Nobody knew where the virus had come from. All they knew was that everybody—save for a few million people—was dead.

But the dead didn't stay dead for long. They rose from their graves to feast on the flesh of the living. Giant concrete walls were built around the cities, in an effort to keep the dead out.

With little else left to look forward to, people turned to their TVs for entertainment. The most popular show was THE HOUSE OF ROTTING FLESH—a show in which a group of convicted criminals was forced to compete in a series of horrific tasks, all while being watched by hordes of the infected. If they failed to complete the task set out before them, that would only lead to their certain death—as food for the hungry dead.

Can anybody survive a night in THE HOUSE OF ROTTING FLESH?

Fun!

I loved this..The game show concept had me gripped I honestly couldn't put this down..I loved Danny he was a really likeable character I found myself rooting for him..A proofreader or beta reader would've sorted out all those little edits that made it through but I wholly enjoyed this zombie story.

This was a fun offering from Harrison Phillips, with a very nasty streak running through it.

Simple and to the point, The House of Rotting Flesh follows six characters as they're put through a gauntlet type of television show where zombies are waiting within each room to chow down on them. Things, of course, do not go well for the characters.

Like any good splatterpunk author, Phillips finds a way to weave in something even worse than rotting corpses chowing down on the flesh of their living victims, so do play attention to his trigger warning at the start of this one.

But I'll be back for Episode 2 and recommend this to all splatterpunk fans.

3.5 (Rounding Up to 4) Torn Out Jugulars for The House of Rotting Flesh.

This was a fun and unique story! For a shorter story I thought it did great with building the characters. I don't want to talk about the ending though, that's all I have to say about that

This is probably my favorite book by Harrison Phillips, a page turner I could not put down!

Normally, I'm not the biggest fan of zombie stories, but Phillips really created something unique here and I loved it!

A group of convicts are forced to participate in a game show where they must perform tasks to progress from room to room, all with zombies!

There are characters you love and hate, there is plenty of gore, and you are begging to know what happens next. If you've seen my reviews before, you know I love when the characters are forced to do tasks to survive. This was like "Saw" but with zombies!

Harrison Phillips actually made me enjoy a zombie story! haha.

This is a.descent read. You get into it pretty easily and there are a few.nasty bits with a few twists here and there to keep you entertained. It's all about a network trying to get 're best ratings during a time of death and destruction. Loved the concept of the rooms in the story and Danny was a great character Along with george . Another awesome read by Harrison Phillips, who is quickly becoming a favorite of mine! This was a fun premise, a gameshow with the threat to the contestants being the undead. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the sequel. 4/5 rotting skulls 💀

Following a zombie apocalypse the few remaining humans live in cities protected by giant concrete walls. Within those walls a new tv show emerged, 'The house of rotting flesh'. In the show convicted criminals were put up against the undead in increasingly more difficult tasks. Hardly anyone ever won, but the few that did were promised a home on a paradise island and a thousand dollars for every zombie that was killed.
Not as extreme as some would expect from the author, but still plenty of gore to be enjoyed. The story is on the shorter side, but we have our core cast set up well, and the pace moves brilliantly with each chapter being a new room and task.
I enjoyed this one a lot, it had the feel of a running man or deathrace experience. The zombies despite being set up for the tasks feel like a very credible threat being the faster kind and not shambling undead. The tasks themselves growing ever more nasty.
I'm looking forward to checking out its follow up 'episode two'.

When the world is plagued with a zombie apocalypse, people don’t have much to look forward to. Except reality TV. The most popular being the House of rotting flesh, for people who broke the law have to survive nine rooms all of them being deadly. The winner goes free and one’s a gorgeous home on an island

I love stories where there’s escape room problems. I love when there’s different rooms with different challenges. The story had really fun characters the ending did disappoint me but overall, I did
enjoy the story.

Short and fun, entertaining characters and whilst not a fresh idea - a really well written version of the 'horror tv' trope.

I loved it massively and whilst I could see the ending coming, I still thought it was a great little twist.

Interesting take on end of days and zombies and the media. The end was shocking.

Pretty decent read. A decent amount of gore. Pretty good ending. I would’ve given it 4 stars but the grammatical errors throughout the book was a little bit annoying.

I'm always a big fan of a zombie story and this one was such a fun ride. I enjoyed all of the characters and them working together (and against eachother) to survive the show. That ending was SO good! I immediately had to buy the sequel.

My copy had spelling errors on the back cover and throughout the book but it wasn't distracting.
