A good book! Even though some topics circle around things that I have already known, I consider them as reminders as we humans always need re-tazkeerah and re-advise.

Few things I like about this book:

1. It is written in English language. We rarely see young people writing in English language and I think this is a good start. I am more affected by English writings after 4 years of being an English major student.

2. I love how Br. Ameen Misran includes citations and references. He writes his points supported by facts. Not just merely an opinion. He also writes poems! (Not all Malay guys could do this). Among his writings that made me giggle are 'I am academically challenged, are you?', 'You smile and I'll smile', and 'Best in the world'.

I just came to know he is my senior, a BENL graduate from UIA. I should have attended his talks organised by BENL Society. Haiyya.

3. The well-known Aiman Azlan, although he has written points that I have known from other sources, but the way he writes, it's something. It manages to hit the heart.

4. They write about serious issue but in a conversational way. It feels like they are talking to the readers.

Jujurnya ada beberapa kali aku terpaksa berhenti sebab
1) ada artikel yang sedikit berat nak hadam
2) aku rasa macam bosan sebab bahagian 2 tu panjang sangat dan ada topik yang berulang;

Penulisan Aiman Azlan sangat simple tapi convincing. Contohnya macam Humanity is Our Concern, The Internet: A Blessing or A Curse?, Emotional Bullying dan Mental Health: The Elephant in the Room.

- how and what to do to keep the ship sailing because marriage has it own ups and downs

Dan kalau korang rasa down, keliru, malas ataupun semangat macam hilang tak tahu kemana, the must read chapter is self-worth from Aiman Azlan.

Topik-topiknya ringan dan straight to the point. Ianya dapat bagi kau clue dan encourage diri kau untuk cari potensi dan keyakinan diri yang mungkin kau belum all out lagi.

God believes in you.

In the quest to find your potential, you need to take chances.

Get out of your comfort zone. Many great things don't have short cuts that lead to them. You just have to do it and face the challenges as they come.

Another challenge that might come your way is the tendency to want things to be perfect. Learn from mistakes and that is how you grow.

Within the messiness, there is one element that you can control; You. You have the control over yourself, in the midst of everything that seems so out of control.

Penulisan Ameen Misran sedikit detail, panjang dan cara penyampaian nya macam ceramah/tazkirah.
Tetapi, setiap penjelasan yang diberi itu make sense. Contohnya dalam bab Identity, topik Best in the World adalah mengenai Murabbi iaitu guru.

Have you wondered how a salt-water fish is never salty even though they live in the sea? This is because the environment does not influence the fishes.

Topik Gosh! I am so Busy sangat related dengan kehidupan sebagai seorang pelajar mahupun seorang yang mempunyai kerjaya ataupun komitmen. Setiap orang ada 24 jam tapi tetap rasa tak cukup. Kenapa?

No matter how busy we are, we always still have some time left over that we might have been currently wasting!

Limit time and fully utilize that limited time with commitment.

The best word to prescribe managing between tasks is not balancing one task to the other. But the word "juggle" is better word. This is because, when a juggler is juggling several balls, the same amount of attention and force needs to be applied.

Di bab Education, topik yang aku suka ialah, Success is by Design, Not Fortuitous. Penerangannya bersambung di bab Self-worth dalam topik When You Help Allah, will Allah Help You? Wajib baca dan tahu!
- "Success is by design, not fortuitous. We cannot believe in miracles."

Success is not mere "luck", effort plays an important role in the journey to success.

Hoping for miracles to happen, such as waiting for "luck" to happen is a big mistake and we are not authorized to do so. But if Allah permits such thing to happen, the fact of it occurring is undeniable.

Last but not least, topik Young and Old dalam bab Community adalah berkaitan dengan isu academic freedom.

The wisdom of the elderly is in the driving spirit of the young.

The combination between the two will produce outstanding foundation of great individuals.

It's a good book actually but somehow the content keep circling around things that I already knew. P/S : some of the quote are memorable and uniquely original

What so special about this book is the different perspective from various aspect from love, community, self-worth, women, religion and so much more.

I love and appreciate greatly on the effort of young man who gave so much love to write in English. I can see the much bigger potential for next book onward.

Keep up the good work!

"Perfection shouldn't be the goal. The goal should be to give it your best. If you gave your best, despite the mistakes you might make, you have succeeded".

One of the meaningful quotes that I found in this book. What I like about this book is the discussion about different aspects of life, which are identity, love, education, community, self-worth, and poetry. The content is generally good, but there are some topics that I could not relate to; hence it makes the reading process quite dull.

For me, Aiman's writing is easier to comprehend compared to Ameen's. Great topics that I liked from Aiman are "The Father that I Am" and "In the Pursuit of Marriage"; it is a piece of good advice for a single person. Another favorite writing is a letter from single Aiman to Married Aiman. I liked how he wrote a letter to himself to remind all the things for years to come.

This book was published in 2014, and maybe, because I was reading it in 2021, some of the writings are circling things I already know or have read at other sources. Furthermore, about the structure of the book, it would be lovely and more understanding for me to read the writings based on the topics accordingly, not divided into two writers.

Overall, I believe that this book is suitable for young readers as most of the topics are dedicated to them.

"Parenting starts before marriage, and the first child you raise is yourself." It all starts with us.

Thank you @bukupts for the review copy 😊

A great book indeed. Lot’s of religious advices , authors’ experiences in life and also critics towards the ummah nowadays. I gained so much new perspectives & ideas about viewing on specific problem and it is true what the title book is about : ‘The Other Side Of The Coin’ .

‘We’ as teenagers should read this book. Focus on the messages that the author is trying to tell us. This book gave us inspiration & zeal to be a better version of ourselves.

I’m liking the language used in this book. Although for me there are so much words that I’m not familiar with, but it doesn’t bother my reading. Instead, It helps me to understand clearly on each sentences in the book.

Keep up the good work , authors!

'The Other Side of the Coin' merupakan buku bergenre Motivasi/Self-help yang ditulis oleh Aiman Azlan dan Ameen Misran.

The only problem is that this book was a slow-read for me.

Oh by the way, ni first time Nurin baca buku yang ditulis oleh Aiman Azlan and Nurin tak sabar nak dapatkan buku 'Unfollow the Flow'😍.

Simple, a lot of ideas with a beautiful cover, book. (had the one with the stars and the sky cover).
Motivational book of self-opinions, personal interest and thoughts that may also try to help people/readers think or look upon something on the other side of the coin.
Consists about love, community, education etc.

Although both authors are originated Malaysia and are Malays, but the use of almost-fully English words is something good and should be taken advantage of it like improving and trying out your second language skills.
Something not that new, but brave.
Two different authors and seen two different types of way of writing. But all in good messages.

One of the titles that caught me attention was 'Young But Not Youth', page 245.
'Young is wasted on the young', a quote by George Bernard Shaw.
'Youth is not a period of life but a state of life'.

Was goody, worth it, although a little slow almost to the end, and skipped some pages.
But great.
After reading, also felt it's free to anyone (brave) state out your opinions and personal interest. Go for it.

Reading this book is like reading a perspective of life through another person view, we may agree or we may disagree. But I found myself often in a same page with the authors, just that they're stating everything in ways I couldn't do.

The book talked about so many aspects in life from identity, love, education, community, self-worth and also poetry -- in a light way that didn't require you to have so many afterthoughts, but just going along the flow and celebrating opinions through reading it.

But the one thing of this book having two authors is that -- though they spoke about the same issue but -- both kinda have a different vibe in their contexts. I couldn't help it but to notice of how subtle yet impactful Aiman Azlan's interpretations were more than Ameen Misran did.

Nonetheless, though a coin on either sides tell different stories, but either sides will still have the same value.

Buku ni birthday present dari bakal adik ipar tak jadi. Dia tak nak Aku jadi kakak ipar dia sebab mesti mak and abang dia sayang aku lebih sebab aku lagi pandai amik hati makcik2 n abam2. (Joking). Situasi tu foresee sebab walaupun aku reject jadi kakak ipar dia, she loves me so much sebab belakang buku ada doa2 dia for me, I mean better me. Syukran ya ukhti. Jazakallah khair.

Refreshing. Like:-

- efforts are practical du'a

- life is all about making choices.

-relax your heart sometime after it has been used, verily the heart will be blind when it is in hatred.

- If I am meant for you, I am meant for you. If I am not meant for you, Allah will replace a person better than I am.

-Bachelors, prepare well. Married couple, improve.

Articles. Books. Reminders.
For you, and for me too.

Fresh writing from young Malaysians, I gave 5 stars for that. The book was more like a collection of short articles, so its good for people who like micro-reading (read for 3-5 minutes). Some of the points were good, I especially like the notion of treating women with respect, giving them flexibility and also the roles of husband in sharing house chores. I think our culture still value women as domestic helpers, but the trend seems slowly open up especially for younger generations.

Having said that, I also want to offer some criticism. Some of the writing have a very poor reasoning, some of them sounds like regular religious sermon and offering nothing new, some sounds more like authors whining (especially the part about boredom).

Of course its not fair to compare the book with others, as every book have their own uniqueness. Overall, bravo!

Aku ambil masa lama untuk habiskan buku ni sebab satu, aku quite busy sejak dua menjak ni, and dua maybe because buku ni quite heavy for me. Kena duduk kat meja, pastikan suasana sunyi sikit and hadam apa yang disampaikan oleh penulis-penulis. But i do enjoy poems in this book. And the book cover sangatlah cantik (One of the factor that made me grab this books).

And like some of the book reviewers stated, aku pun prefer part Aiman Azlan. Not saying yang Ameen Misran writing's not good enough. Masing-masing ada preferences sendiri. In term of confessions, opinions aku suka part Aiman Azlan, but in term of poems, aku rasa aku prefer Ameen Misran, rasa berkobar baca.

c) Kalau saya mahu anak saya mencintai Allah, bukankah saya mesti terlebih dahulu mencintai-Nya?

Berikut pula contoh beberapa kata-kata yang menarik:
a) We ourselves become our strongest enemy.
b) I believe that the real manual of the Internet is the heart.
c) We claim that we do not have time, we kept on saying that from time to time, making it hear like a rhyme.

The Other Side of the Coin by Aiman Azlan dan Ameen Misran.

- This book is about identity, love, community, education and self-worth.

- Full in English. So, it is good for us to improve our English skills.

Then aku nak la share one of the quote that is : " Three things you need to do before getting married; learn about deen, learn about women/men and learn about marriage."

- Nak lagi ? Nah. This is about the important of smile. " If we let ourselves be stressed, we get pimples. If we frown, we get freckles. So let us smile and get dimples. "

- Nak banyak lagi ? Boleh baca sendiri. Hehe.

- Overall, bila baca buku ni boleh buat kita berfikir pasal benda yang selama ni kita terlepas pandang. Contoh macam pasal self reflection.

Pasal deen. Ada hadith, ada ayat-ayat Quran.

- Highly recommended. Worth to read for.

- So, selamat membaca !

Omggggg my very first favorite book of inspiration and motivation! One of the author itself is a psychologist and the content inside are literally impressed me from the first page. I love how he connected his experiences and knowledge into certain categories such as community, love, education etc. It's more likely to islamic thing like pelukis/arkitek jalanan by teme. They want to remind us undirectly that everything is from Allah. But honestly both the other side of coin and arkitek/pelukis jalanan are incredibly amazing to read! I really recommend to whoever wanna fill your soul with good words and good vibes as well!

The collaboration between these two intellectual Malaysian authors, dropping their inner thoughts in their 20’s based on their own life experiences. Contents inserting in such a straightforward messages about life in general; love, personal interest, identity, education, self-worth, confidence and etc; close related to Islam community. The points are well written in the most beautiful way yet easy to absorb straight in my cubicle mind 👍🏻

By two writers and it covers about identity, love, education, community, self worth and poetry. Personally I love the advice here on sincerity by Aiman and about controlling anger by Ameen. It's not a heavy read and feel more connected to the wording of Aiman. Mature and smoothly versed. Ameen is quite aggressive and strict but the message content is excellent indeed. I view this book to be much more suitable to those young adults and teenagers where you're in a phase about discovering your true self and seeking for self improvement.

I remember reading this when I was 17 and at that time and age, all I needed was a little spiritual booster and some good reminders from our Islamic practices. I think this is a great book for motivation as it has a lot of basic things we need to know and understand about our faith. Nothing too heavy! Would definitely read it over and over again.
