On a night when traditions are celebrated, a little magic will help love to blossom.
Mei and Kane have known each other since the start of school, but efforts to get to know each other haven’t gone well for either. Kane didn’t plan on causing a fire in the science lab, and Mei didn’t expect to knock over the new library display.
When both end up at the same stall at the August Moon Festival, the mutual attraction isn’t missed by a certain old lady. She gifts them a bottle of elixir, and thinking it’s just lemonade, both Mei and Kane drink it.
Transported and trapped in an empty Adelaide, the two teens have just hours to solve a series of riddles. They will need to work together because if they fail, the portal to home will be closed for a year.
Will a fateful tale repeat itself, or will love conquer all?
A sweet YA romance filled with hand-holding, sweet kisses, and a little humour.
Jenni lives in a strange part of Australia where four seasons regularly occur within a day. She has two wonderful children and eight cats who enjoy tearing through the house at 2am to keep her company.
4.25 ⭐️ Honestly for what this was it was a very good story and a very good little book 🦋 the characters were nice and I like the concept of the magic world where they have to solve riddles and it brings them together. Only thing that would’ve made this a 5 is if it was longer.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story! The riddles were so much fun! The protagonists were relatable and I rooted for them the entire time!
I was wrong on a few of the riddles though. I wish there were more! The author paints a lovely adventure. The setting came across warm, yet mysterious. A great story for all ages!
3.5 stars I thought Riddles of the Heart was a cute short story. I loved the idea and the plot but found myself wishing for more, which could be a me thing honestly. I found the characters fun and their journey one that kept me eager to hear what comes next.
Overall, if you’re looking for a quick and cute read, this is a great book to look into. I grabbed it for a quick palette cleanse to start 2024 off and it was exactly what I needed. Didn’t take long to really start/build the story, the plot was moving quickly, and you found yourself rooting for the main characters. It was an easy read.
Super cute book! Took me a while to finish because I kept getting distracted by other books. I loved the riddles and the concept of another world where they can get to know each other without too much pressure.
This is a short story that's got a sweet high school romance that any introvert especially should love. It's nice seeing characters that aren't popular and confident. The story takes place over one night when the two main characters, Mei and Kane, are transported into an empty realm of Adelaide (bonus points for having an Australian setting). They have these riddles they need to solve and when they do they find the next riddle. I liked that they went around Adelaide, having lived there years ago I guessed one clue early on - the author clearly has been there due to the details.
Would be nice to know the "after" of these characters. Oh and I loved the last chapter - won't give it away but it was a really cool way to finish it.
The story idea is cute enough, but this book should've seen a few more rounds of edits before being published. It is riddled with typos, grammatical errors, and incorrect/missing words. These are issues that could've been easily solved with a few re-reads or a third-party editor. I can overlook a few mistakes, but this was on a whole other level. There was a mistake on nearly every page I read. The only reason I finished this book is because it's so short. Besides the plethora of mistakes, the dialog also flows unnaturally at times.
This was a quick read about two teens who end up having to solve riddles after being transported to an alternate world in order to teach them about communication and getting out of their own head. I really enjoyed it overall, it's a good read if you need something that's just cute and wholesome
Quick Summary ✨ FMC: Mei ✨ MMC: Kane ✨ Friends to more than friends ✨ Magical Realism ✨ Riddles ✨ Short Story <100 pages 📍Adelaide, Australia
As far as I can tell, Mei and Kane both drink something and wake-up to find no one around (another dimension maybe), where they have to solve a number of riddles together in order to get back to everyone. I think it has to do something with the powers of the moon and a friend's grandma. I'm not quite sure.
Honestly, I was really confused at the beginning of this story because I had no idea what was going on. It felt choppy and disjointed. I wasn't sure who was talking, where people were, or even who the main characters were. I also felt like I had jumped into the middle of a story so it took over a quarter of the book for me to get my bearings, and catch on to what the premise was, somewhat. I probably would have enjoyed it more if it were longer and took the time to explain certain aspects. There were so many parts that I wanted to learn more about, including the what the Moon Festival is.
**Remember: The above are all my own thoughts and opinions. If you don't agree then that's okay, because it just means we have different likes and thoughts.
Hello, I am so happy you have landed on this page to check out this book.
I really enjoyed writing this novelette for a few reasons.
Firstly, I set it in my home state of South Australia. I can count on one hand the number of stories that I have read based here. It meant that I could also include better descriptions of places and locations in the Adelaide city centre because I have been there.
I also enjoyed the riddles. The lantern riddles are a part of Chinese culture for the Mid-Autumn Festival. I used some more traditional riddles as well as a few original ones. Solving these gave me a chance to have my main characters work together and explore their similarities and differences.
I think Kane and Mei are one of my favourite couples so far! And I can't forget Grandma as she really brings some humour to the storyline... and here's a secret... Ying Yue will be appearing in another book.
Mark the book to read and when you do, I'd love for you to share your thoughts about it with others.
This is a cute short YA romance about Mei and Kane, the two MCs, who liked each other but couldn't bring themselves to say anything about it until they were transported and trapped in some sort of magical realm. In order to get out, they have to solve some lantern riddles. Otherwise, they'll be trapped in that realm forever.
To be honest, I was confused at the beginning of the story and had no idea what was going on. It felt like the story started in the middle. Anyway, I was able to get it and catch on eventually.
I loved and enjoyed solving the riddles, and I actually got most of them (yey! ヾ(^-^)ノ). However, I spotted some grammatical errors that, sometimes, were hard to overlook. Other than that, the book is entertaining.
If you are looking for a quick-pallete cleanse or just looking for short reads to catch up on your reading goals, you might want to consider this.
it was cute enough for a short story— it just wasn’t fleshed out enough. i didn’t feel anything while reading it. not for the characters, not about the plot.
i did think that the plot was interesting and 100% unique but i personally would’ve benefitted more from a longer, more-thought out novel rather than this small short story. or at least characters with more depth. (and i was so happy that it was so short in a way because it meant there was no room for any unnecessary drama between the main characters!!) 🤗
I enjoyed the story, however, it was hard to overlook some of the grammatical errors and the writing style. It felt like a Wattpad book, but not necessarily in a bad way. It would benefit greatly from an editor, but overall the story and the characters were cute and entertaining.
3.5 ⭐ This book is really short and cute. I really like how it has a POV for each character, so we can see their train of thought. But I think this book needs a little bit more editing in grammar. Overall I had a great time reading this book.
Krátká roztomilá romantika se spoustou hádanek, jelikož to bylo krátké, tak mi přišlo, že se do sebe zamilovali hrozně rychle, ale hádanky se mi moc líbili a většinu jsem uhádla 🥰
I got this book on Stuff Your Kindle Day and tonight I wanted to read something short and simple before going to bed. I chose this one and got exactly what I wanted. It was simple, fun, fluffy and cute.
Nice little short read , good to get you out of a reading slump. Quick paced , a little predictable but overall a cute love story with a sprinkle of magic
