the main characters have things hard in life for the most part. although hwan was the king in the past, he was imprisoned at the cliff that is infested with tigers at the beginning of the story. samwol, though a girl, took her father's place as a guard. due to his dementia, samwol's father couldn't work at all. as samwol started to talk to hwan, she finds that he isn't that bad after all, not as what was rumoured. soon, things worsened when hwan was brought back to the capital as a traitor to the crown. knowing that she has to do something, samwol left her hometown for the first time.
overall, i enjoyed the storyline and the progression of the romance. samwol and hwan both been through hard times, and still ended up together. so glad i picked this up!
Oh my goodness gracious, one of my favorite manga reads EVER! The way their relationship blossomed and they found safety, love, acceptance, and life in each other - ahhhh I'm swooning. And yet at the same time, my heart is breaking. The first couple episodes of volume 2 have created an overcast sky in my life. And yes, this last episode had the rain falling.
Hauntingly beautiful. There are stories which stay with you for a long time; making you think about it for days after finishing the book. Books like these are classic in my opinion; timeless. I can see my self reading this and I’m sure every reading will give me new feelings. It’s a story about two people from totally different backgrounds, who meet and their individual journey. It’s Not some typical romance story about they met, fell in love and happily ever after. It’s a journey much like real life full of ups and downs; loss, farewells and the winters and springs of life. A tale of how every action and decision whose consequences we have to live through and endure. I really enjoyed reading this. Books like these are hard to come by.
Beautiful! This story was so beautiful. I enjoyed the characters: Inhwa and San. Enjoyed that the story didn’t make San this perfect hero. As that would not have been in line with his position. (Kings and emperors committed heinous acts to maintain their ever fleeting grip on power) It was realistic and it didn’t make him any less of an amazing character.
The side characters were also well done and even Kyung. I felt sad at how his story unfolded, but again, he was a victim to his position and the influences of those around him and his own jealousy. Despite him and San not having a brotherhood, I liked that San was able to admit that despite not liking him, they both wronged each other.
Loved the new king- the younger brother. He was funny and probably the only ‘decent’ or ‘innocent’ character in the entire novel. Which made him deserving of the position. Though it might unironically stain him. Who knows?
The love between San and Inhwa *chef. I cried, I laughed and I fretted my head off when they were in their predicament. Happy they made it out and found their way back to each other.
Moonrise by the Cliff A historical-fiction romance manhwa.
Good build-up. Enough mystery and twists. Tons of emotions. I really liked this read!
I feel like I've really grown with the characters over time. I came for the smexy times but was touched by a nice story instead.
As the other reviews said, it would be just as good even if you removed all the explicit scenes. There were times when I wanted to skip them just so we can get on with the story! Haha! 😂
And gosh, that's the most plot-filled epilogue ever! Well, it was an 18-chapter epilogue so ... lol 🤷♀️. But I truly appreciate those extra chapters too.
This is such a beautiful story in the first place, I read it in one sitting because was so eager to see what happens. We have here a strong and independent female lead and also an understanding yet dedicated and firm male character. They and all the side characters feel like real people, which is probably why you believe the story just as it is. Definitely recommend if you want to observe a beautiful sometimes even tragic love story (and to shed a tear once in a while)
Pleasantly surprised by the sincere love and communication in Hwan and Samwol's relationship. There was some political intrigue that had me unable to put the story down.
At times, you do have to suspend your belief. For one: the female lead was TOO trusting in the beginning with the type of allegations they had heaped against Hwan. Like, miss lady, no.
I was fighting for my life with the love scenes LOL I'm talking back to back no breathers.
1. This is a beautifully drawn Korean Historical cross-class romance with an omnipresent feeling of impending doom (it's not actually a tragedy, but every chapter feels like it's leading towards one) that was a little too slow to keep my interest. No shade though, because what I did read was pretty competent.
This was good and I enjoyed reading it. The romance, smut and plot development were all written well and the story was paced nicely too. I loved how Inhwa and San's relationship developed. It started out tentatively and all at once blossomed into something beautiful. They truly loved each other and although the angst was delicious, I was glad that they had a happy ending.
I cried like the entire second half. Its captures longing perfectly.
The art, the characters. I think about this one, at least every time I open Manta. I’m trying to find a physical copy/version because of how much I love it.
I’ve read it multiple times. I just love it so much. I became obsessed with historical kdramas because of it.
Absolutely loved this story! The artwork and overall romance between Inwha and San! Ah! Love how their romance builds, it’s not just forced into the story, you can actually see how they have grown to love one another.
Beautiful story. I think all the side stories(17?) Sort of ruined the emotional impact of the ending so I wish I read them at a later date, but wow this was so touching, gut wrenching, and heart warming.
Honestly one of the most sensual and beautiful stories I've read in so long. Definitely worth a subscription to manta to read this one. One of my unexpected favorites. It's finished so I'm definitely going to read it again.
