Praise for F.R. Jameson and the Ghostly Shadows Anthology series:
“The way Jameson writes is nothing short of amazing. I could easily read anything written by him.”
“It’s always a great sign when all you want to do is read a book and do nothing else until you’ve finished it, and this is one of those books. What a wonderful imagination F.R. Jameson has, to come up with a story that had me at times on the edge of my seat.”
“Colorful, sometimes intense writing and expert characterization mark the story. The novel captures the reader. There is never a dull moment, seldom a quiet one. So, hang on to the reins as the story gallops along.”
“Do yourself a favour and read this book, you won’t be disappointed.”
“This was a great, fun read that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys character studies with a pinch of the supernatural.”
“The characters came to life through the thoughtful writing. Twists and turns that kept me interested and fully engaged in the story.”
“The characterization and the detailed picturesque of the world is perfect.”
“This was a fantastic ghostly story. Quite a page turner! Had me hooked from the beginning. Can’t wait to try some of the authors other books.”
F.R. Jameson was born in Wales, but now lives in London with his wife and young daughter. He writes both historical thrillers and supernatural thrillers.
His books are, at the moment, mostly sorted into two different – but complimentary – series. The first, ‘Screen Siren Noir’, currently comprises of three novels: ‘Diana Christmas’, ‘Eden St. Michel’ and ‘Alice Rackham’. All of which tell the stories of beautiful British film stars caught up in Noir tales of blackmail, obsession, scandal and death. He is currently working on both the fourth and fifth books in the series.
The second series is more disturbing and scary, and lives under the moniker: ‘Ghostly Shadows’. Right now there is only one book published, a tale of supernatural revenge – ‘Death at the Shadows’. However, 2019 will bring four more entries to terrify and intrigue.

DEATH AT THE SEASIDE CERTAIN DANGER CALL OF THE MANDRAKE THE HELLBOUND DETECTIVE FOLIAGE THE STRANGE FATE OF LORD BRUTON THE WIDOW RAVENS ALGERNON SWAFFORD - PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR SACRIFICE AT ST. NICK'S
This was such a fantastic collection. I've previously read two books by him, both of which I loved and this collection was no different. My favourites were the short Foilage and every story which included Jacob Ravens. 📖 Foilage follows four survivors as they flee the city to get to higher ground in an attempt to outrace a new disease. This apocalyptic tale will have you on the edge of your seat. The reveal is violent and haunting and it will leave you wanting more. 📖 My other favourites were The Widow Ravens, Algernon Swafford, Sacrifice at St. Nick's and The Hellbound Detective. All of which center around the devilish and depraved Jacob Ravens. He's a horror author whose writings actually turn out to be his real life dabbling with the darkest arts. Each of these stories features him in some way - we see him through the eyes of his wife, an obsessed teenage fan and his enslaved lackey. 📖 If you're looking for some spooky reads definitely do yourself a favour and check out some of Jameson's works!
This collection was incredible! I really enjoyed all the different stories. You should definitely try onr of the different books. I think there is a little something for everyone.
Death at the seaside it really gave me Tom Buchanan vibes. It has a great ending and you really root for some of the characters in this one. I did say SOME.
Certain Danger is full of blood and death. A bunch of the people get what they deserve!
Call of the mandrake. It was my favorite story! It gives off Sherlock Holmes vibes but with creepy ghost monsters. The imagery in this story is stunning.
Ghost Shadow shorts: The story foliage has just been living in my head. It's such a different take in the end of the world!!
The hellbound detective: I have never hated a character so much. I hate Jacob Ravens. I hate him so much! The other characters are flawed and loveable in their own ways but, that Jacob!
Wow, what an incredible collection of stories. F.R. Jameson has that wonderful ability on being able to write such unique and entertaining books. It’s hard to say which of these five books I enjoyed the most, as they are all so good. Call of the Mandrake and Death at the Seaside really captured my attention. I would certainly encourage others to read this amazing Boxset of stories. Easily worth the 5/5 star rating.
F.R Jameson treats us to a diverse range of horror & paranormal stories in Ghostly shadows anthology. There's dystopian stories, stories to make you think about hell and its reaches, stories about obsession and a neat series about a detective and a sinister author.
I really loved how we are introduced to the detective, through a really chilling story about the powers of dark forces and how far people go to keep the truth quiet. Adding in more stories which involve these characters really completed a picture which is compelling, unsettling and interesting. This one will have you wanting more, making you relate to the characters who go searching for answers.
I enjoyed the pace of these stories, not to long and not to short. One thing worth mentioning is that F.R Jameson knows how to write both likeable and extremely unlikable characters that think appropriately for who they are. Likewise for all the different settings in his stories.
My favourite was call of the mandrake where two investigators are called to an island, mysteriously where there are only women left. It was such an awesome unique idea. Perfectly crafted characters, isolated setting and stakes that are high.
One of my second favorites was foliage. A dystopian short story that fills you with a sense of hopelessness. The ending was perfect, it made you wonder. There is gore in here but not needless, it adds to the horrors that our survivors have already seen and still fight against.
One more I want to highlight is: Sacrifice at st nicks. What would you do if you heard a voice from a grave? A high-school student goes in search of an authors grave. A perfectly crafted story that gets out of hand so fast you barely even notice it.
This anthology is a great way to introduce yourself to F.R Jamesons writing and world's that are so diverse there's something for everyone.
Thank you to F.R Jameson for my review copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
The first bundle I have seen from Jameson has arrived! This is beyond exciting. This collection gathers some of the first stories I read by him. Stories that dragged me along despite me hating mysteries. The stories that made me become a big fan of Jameson.
These stories range from mysterious sea ghosts (not the title you are thinking) to supernatural destruction of a really terrible man. This is a collection of horror that actually kept me captivated and gave me the creeps more than once. There is a reason Jameson is one of my favorite horror authors. He can take a short story and make it incredibly powerful and horrifying in a way that has me hooked.
I highly recommend this set. It is a great way to get started in your own reading of all of Jameson’s books. Trust me, just one book is not enough when it comes to him. Every story feels like it builds on another until everything is overwhelmingly horrifying. Delightful.

FR Jameson is a talented writed. His creative gifts are displayed I these novels. Once you start you will not be able to set these stories down! I gave this honest, voluntary review after being given a free copy of the book with no monetary compensation.
This is an enjoyable anthology by F.R Jameson. It has four novellas: 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦, 𝘊𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘋𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳, 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘬𝘦, and 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘋𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦. My favorite of which is 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘬𝘦, I love the mystery surrounding the sea in that story plus the 𝘟-𝘍𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘴-like vibe to it. There are few short stories in this collection too. 𝘍𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘨𝘦 is an intresting take on the apocalypse genre. What I love the most in this collection though is this character named "Jacob Ravens" for he reminded me so much of Lovecraft. He's a character I would like to read more about in the future (so far my fave is 𝘚𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘚𝘵. 𝘕𝘪𝘤𝘬'𝘴).
I have read the two latest books from this author so being able to read his previous works all in one box set was win-win situation! The author himself defines ghostly shadows as “that strange flicker you glimpse from the corner of your eye, that sound you’re certain you hear in the dark of night in an empty house, they’re the feeling of dread which races up and overwhelms you completely.” And that’s exactly what he manages to make you feel with every story!
The set starts out with 3 different but equally strange and thrilling stories. My favorite was Call of the Mandrake-the call of the sea has always lured men to take to their boats, leave their loved ones and sail off, but the call of the sea has horrible consequences for the men of Beddnic Beach. An old experiment developed years ago during wartime has activated and it begins building an Army of the Deep.
The set wraps up with some “shorts” from Jameson that revolve around a devilish writer, Jacob Ravens, who writes about debauchery, darkness, and evil. His works are supposed to be fiction but he writes from experience. Included in the shorts are Foliage-to drink or not to drink...it seems to fend off the virus sweeping the globe which is wiping out humanity, turning people into grotesque plants. The Strange Fate of Lord Bruton-the lord is introduced to a new butler who brings with him all the temptations and debauchery befitting a King, King of H__l itself!
I really enjoyed being able to have these all together, to be able to read one after the other! It’s easy for new readers of Mr. Jameson and also fans of his to join him in the shadows!
I didn't like Larry Castle; he was a self-centered egotistical jerk. So, by the time I reached the middle of the second chapter, I had my fell of the story.
I really enjoyed Call of the Mandrake, Certain Danger and the Jacob Ravens stories, all 4 stars. Death at the Seaside wasn't as good at the rest but still a good 3 stars. Overall a good read!
I really enjoyed this horror anthology! Reading others by this author, his voice is becoming a welcomed, familiar friend. I loved how some of these stories tied into others I've read by him and eachother! Of course with all collections, I liked some better than others. Every story offered you a healthy dose of the creeps! My favorites were Death adult Seaside, Foliage, and The Strange Fate of Lord Burton. I also really enjoyed the short stories and adventuring into about the evil that is Jacob Ravens.
All in all, an anthology that horror lovers are going to want to pick up and even non-horror lovers may enjoy some of the ghostly tales!
