A Rescued from Ruin Collection: Volume 1

Rate this book
Sometimes love starts with a scandal, and in Elisa Braden’s beloved Rescued from Ruin series, sometimes marriage is the only solution—even when it sparks a fiery passion no one saw coming. Experience all the scandalous predicaments, emotional redemptions, and gripping love stories (with a dash of tart-tongued dowager Lady Wallingham) in the series readers call “addictive” and “beautifully written.” For the first time, the 11-book Rescued from Ruin series is offered in three sexy Regency bundles.Volume One includes four full-length Yours, Annabelle (Prequel)As a girl, Annabelle Huxley chased Robert Conrad with reckless abandon, and he always rescued her when she pushed too far—until the accident that cost him everything. Seven years later, Robert discovers the girl with the habit of chasing trouble is now a siren he can’t resist. But when a scandalous secret threatens her life, how far will he go to rescue her one last time? The Madness of Viscount Atherbourne (Book One)Victoria Lacey’s life is perfect—perfectly boring. Agree to marry a lord who has yet to inspire a single, solitary tingle? It’s all in a day’s work for the oh-so-proper sister of the Duke of Blackmore. Surely no one suspects her secret longing for head-spinning passion. Except a dark stranger, on a terrace, at a ball where she should not be kissing a man she has just met. Especially one bent on revenge. The Truth About Cads and Dukes (Book Two)Painfully shy Jane Huxley is in a most precarious position, thanks to dissolute charmer Colin Lacey’s deceitful wager. Now, his brother, the icy Duke of Blackmore, must make it right, even if it means marrying her himself. Will their union end in frostbite? Perhaps. But after lingering glances and devastating kisses, Jane begins to suspect the Her duke may not be as cold as he appears.Desperately Seeking a Scoundrel (Book Three)Where Lord Colin Lacey goes, trouble follows. Tortured and hunted by a brutal criminal, he is rescued from death’s door by the stubborn, fetching Sarah Battersby. In return, she asks one small Pretend to be her fiancé. Temporarily, of course. With danger nipping his heels, he knows it is wrong to want her, wrong to agree to her terms. But when has Colin Lacey ever done the sensible thing?

Reading romance novels came easily to Elisa Braden. Writing them? That took a little longer. After graduating with degrees in creative writing and history, Elisa spent too many years in “real” jobs writing T-shirt copy ... and other people’s resumes ... and articles about giftware displays. But that was before she woke up and started dreaming about the very unreal job of being a romance novelist. Better late than never.

Elisa lives in the Pacific Northwest, where you're constitutionally required to like the colors green and gray. Good thing she does. Other items on the "like" list include cute dogs, strong coffee, and epic movies. Of course, her favorite thing of all is hearing from readers who love her characters as much as she does.

If you're one of those, get in touch on Facebook (@authorelisabraden), visit her website (www.elisabraden.com), and - most importantly - be the first to hear about new releases, price specials, and awesome free bonuses by signing up for her email newsletter (bit.ly/ElisaNewsletter). Delightful read

The characters are entertaining and well developed. I couldn't put the novels down, waiting for what happens next. The perfect blend of humor, suspense, and spice.

I listened to the audiobook version of this title. Usually, if I read/listen to a compilation/box set, I review each title separately. However I have 3 things to say about all of these stories:
1. I can’t see how the first story is linked to the others! Even though they’re in the same “world”, the characters within them are not really referred to again. This was the worst story. The narration was truly dire in this one, other reviewers generously stated that it improved over the course of the books but, it didn’t - not really - the characters got better. Not the narration. In book 1 the female lead sounded awful, high pitched and her stutter was foolishly rendered.
2. The entire premise of the stories dragged on for far too long. There was too much unnecessary padding and, to be honest, none of the men were in love! Within 5 minutes, all of them succumbed to their wives because the sex was good! That made them unable to think straight .
3 The ONLY good thing about the books were the pithy sayings at the beginning of each chapter, by “The Dragon”, who we finally get to meet in person in book 2 with a cameo in book 3.

4. I’ve subsequently read reviews by others on Goodreads, who probably read the book. Perhaps it comes across far better when just pure prose or perhaps the main audience have been North American, because British audiences would not have credited half of the behaviour, attitudes or surmises demonstrated in this piece of prose.

5. This is definitely a book for North Americans, British audiences will not be able to endure it.

6. Fortunately this title was free as part of the Audible Included Plus catalogue, otherwise I would not have finished any of the stories and would have returned it before I got to chapter 2 of book 1.

7. My recommendation is, if this is a free audiobook title, try it out. Who knows, you might like it! But, if you have to pay for this, don’t do it. For some weird and annoying reason, this narrator thinks that the way to pronounce “back” is “bark”! Truly. And for some frustrating reason the word “back” is said several times in Every. Single. Chapter of ALL of the books! It’s seriously off putting and that’s just the most prominent mispronunciation, but there are a LOT More. The narrator is awful. Truly abysmal! I can’t understand how she was recruited time and again to record these books. (I think that it is a result of the author being American and believing that the English actually speak so atrociously)! I will Never listen to this narrator again. (Mary Sarah - Truly Dreadful).
