That’s what we do, isn’t it? Tea makes all our troubles disappear. House blown up during the Blitz? Have a cup of tea! Been mugged in the street? Tea will make it better! Husband shacked up with some thirty-five-year-old café owner called Helena Love? Hell, tea will cure that too.

Only it won’t, of course.

This is a tough review because this book started amazingly and I thought it would be a five. But I had some issues as it went along. Not with the writing but with the plot.

This is a "spurned wife" type of book and I like that genre..alot. But you are never sure what you are going to get and I have had this issue before in this genre, where the book holds my interest at first but then I become less interested.

Jenny's husband has left her. For a woman named..don't laugh..Helena Love. It sucks. Who likes to be left?

But then he leaves Helena too..and that leads to Helena turning up on Jenny's door step.

I thought this would be a revenge caper. You see, Hubs now has girlfriend number three and Helena wants to know about her. Just like Jenny wanted to know about Helena.

There was much to like and I did really like parts of this book but it just got so crazy. I dislike when books go the way of the reader having to suspend disbelief.. All the characters seemed out to get each other. And so you have Helena's envy and Jen's envy toward Craig and then both their envy toward each other and the new lady.

And I wish I had got to know Annabelle a bit. I just felt the whole book was these two ex wives sniping at each other and that was not really for me. I had thought..I don't know..I had thought I'd be getting something more like "The first wives club".

The book turns unexpectedly violent and:

SPOILERS:

By the end everyone is either dead or miserable. I also wanted to know whatever became of Annabelle.

So for me, I had the opposite reaction to many others. Other reviewers really liked the ending for example and I did not. I also felt we never really got to know Craig or Annabelle. I guess this was just a case of a book being very different then I'd thought it would be.

So I felt it went from a fun and snarky revenge romp to a bloody almost hostage situation type thriller and that just is not my kind of book. However, even though I am not the target audience, I encourage people who like thrillers that start with cheating and revenge to read this as they may very well enjoy this.

Well, what a surprising snappy little find this was
Jenny’s hubby Craig left her for Helena 5 years ago, now Craig has left Helena for yet another newer model and Helena has turned up at Jenny’s door, wanting to use Jenny as a ‘shoulder to cry on’
A shoulder is given but Jenny has much more planned than that
I cant decide if Jenny was fabulous or menacing, a woman scorned rightly seeking revenge or a psychopath...I think probably a mix all of these but I loved her 😁, her narrative was delicious in it’s honesty and her conversation’s with herself over what she was going to do soooo dark yet at times had me laughing out loud, a real character to love/dislike, empathise with and yet be horrified by
And then there’s Helena, wow, she just has no self understanding or off button, and her comments are wonderfully awful, between them they are simply great characters to base a book around
Revenge gets metered out and then the book takes a menacing turn in Helena’s house when things turn very nasty very quickly between all the characters we meet in the book
Finishing with a flourish of an ending that will leave you maybe worryingly pleased and definitely shocked
All set in a seaside town, described to bring back memories of childhood holidays, I could almost smell Scarborough and Brid
The author has written a really good book here without pretention, enjoyable and dramatic yet welcoming to the reader
Loved it

THE WEBS WE WEAVE is a stand-alone psychological thriller by author Michelle Morgan.

Hours before the night of their twentieth anniversary dinner party, Craig tells his wife Jenny that he can’t go through with the dinner celebration, because he doesn’t want to be married anymore.

Jenny lashes back and asks him if he is having an affair and he says yes…and he loves her. Her name is Helena and she owns a Café, just two doors down for Craig’s garage. Craig moves out of the family home and in with Helena.

Jenny and Craig’s eighteen-year-old daughter, Rebecca was at university, and wouldn’t be affected by the separation.

Jenny’s best friend, Kate shows up at Jenny’s house with news…Craig has now left wife number two…Helena.

Is it possible to be friends with the woman who stole your husband?

Jenny faces this question when Helena shows up at her door.

Now it seems Craig has moved onto a younger woman. Helena pleads with Jenny to help find out who the mystery woman is.

Jenny’s friend Kate, and adult daughter Rebecca, warn her not to become involved. But Jenny can’t resist…and agrees to investigate.

Her name is Annabelle, a school friend of Rebecca, a twenty- seven- year old age gap with Craig.

This might just be the opportunity she has been looking for. It’s not very often the chance for revenge comes knocking. But does Jenny really know what she’s getting into and is Helena really the person she appears to be?

The Webs We Weave is a gripping psychological thriller that shows the consequences of obsessive unhealthy behavior; when love is destroyed and turns to hate and revenge.

Many thanks to the author and Bloodhound Books for my digital copy.

This book is all about revenge women wish to take. Jenny and Helena have been spurned by one man; Jenny’s daughter, Rebecca, cannot quite get over who her father’s new “squeeze” is. This results in a story of attempting to regain control with some vicious consequences.

Jenny is the abandoned first wife. We meet her at the beginning of the story. I felt so sorry for her when Craig announces he is leaving: preparing a celebratory dinner for friends on their twentieth wedding anniversary, what timing could be worse than this?! Jump forwards five years and it is like history repeating itself as Helena, wife number two, is experiencing a similar rejection. The fact that Craig chooses a girlfriend that’s the same age as his daughter definitely made my skin crawl and reinforced the negative perception I had of him.

Morgan shows how women can move on and be stronger as a result of a relationship collapsing. Jenny has made a business for herself in genealogy (researching family trees); Craig disapproved of the time Jenny spent trying to establish himself, claiming he felt “overlooked”. Man, how much did that irritate me! Helena is also a business-owner, so I appreciated the strong female characters that the writer depicts.

Unsurprisingly, I found Craig’s character shifty and difficult to like. I guess that was the writer’s intentions?! I could not believe in his relationship with Annabelle; it seemed fake and a convenient device of moving the plot forwards. Indeed, for the most of the story, I felt like I was waiting for a “spark” to ignite the plot. In my opinion, this did not really happen, instead continuing on a rather mediocre plane.

Hints are provided about Jenny’s obsession towards Craig. Eventually, Jenny’s history is revealed and we find out how she behaved in the immediate aftermath of Craig’s departure. I found this element of the story to be most exciting and wished there had been more emphasis on it. Instead, I was puzzled by Jenny’s actions towards Helena and thought her subtle misdemeanours could have grown to something more exciting.

The climax of the story was unexpected and lessened my liking of Helena’s character. I thought it was quite prolonged but I could not anticipate how the plot would unfold. However, it was the final pages that really gripped me and the surprise and horror I felt was what I had been hoping for the rest of the book. As such, I think this book simmers throughout without really kicking off. There’s plenty of potential but I think there could have been more suspense to add to the thrill of this story.

An enjoyable, fast-moving read. I could not fully understand Jenny’s motives until her background is made clearer. This added to my interest to the story and, if it wasn’t for the final surprise, I would argue this is mostly an average read.

With thanks to Bloodhound books for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is an English seaside village drama with none of its charm. There were some LOL moments but I found it a bit too chatty for my taste.

Told from the ex wife’s POV, she does the “unthinkable” when pushed to her limit and becomes unhinged (actually, half of the characters are unstable). Then you have the OW who was sly as a fox when she “stole” the husband yet became dumb as a brick when trying to befriend the ex wife. Lastly, the philandering Adonis who is the village mechanic got involved with the wrong woman for the last time and got his comeuppance. Writing was good and I saw the humor in the ending so I didn’t mind it at all.

Utterly Without Any Redeeming Qualities

This book was awful. The story wasn’t interesting (despite a promising first chapter) and the characters were flat and not one of them had any depth, zing, or mystery to them. The story was also poorly paced with random tangents that was literally just filling space (i.e. Kate and Pete, Helena coming to the house at the beginning, Annabelle’s work at the gallery, etc.)

Really just boring and forgettable.

Boring Book

The main character is quite dull. There is nothing “gripping” about this book as the title suggests. Usually books will pick up at some point, but this one did not (for me). I forced myself to read it to the end and wish I hadn’t wasted my time.

This is a great psychological thriller.
Jenny is devastated when her husband tells her their marriage is over. They’ve been married twenty years and she never saw it coming.
Five years later and Jenny is getting on with her life but still isn’t completely over Craig.
She then gets a visit from Helena, the woman he left her for, and is now married to.
Helena is upset as Craig has left her for another woman and she wants Jenny to find out all she can about the new woman in his life.
Jenny’s daughter and best friend warn her against helping Helena but she’s goes ahead with it anyway.
I didn’t guess how this would all turn out and I was surprised at how it all spiralled out of control so quickly.
This is a great psychological thriller that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Bloodhound Books for the opportunity to read this book.

Waste of time

No redeemable characters, implausible storyline, abrupt pacing and herky jerky timeline. Shallow character and plot development. Why would anyone support this author? Don't bother.

Ehhh…wasn’t my cup of tea. It wasn’t what I was expecting and even then, I thought it drastically took a left turn; and not in a good way. The last part of the book was sudden and it just felt out of place. Like the author just remembered that the book was supposed to be a thriller. The entire book was about the two exes going back and forth, tit-for-tat. Jenny’s ex left her for Helena, then leaves Helena for Annabelle. The two become “friends” but they’re really just putting up with each other. I honestly couldn’t wait to finish it. I really thought it was going to keep me invested but it fell flat for me.

2.5 rounded up.

I may have enjoyed this a lot better if I’d had time to fully immerse myself, I think. As it was it felt like the story plodded along for the first 3/4 of the book with not a lot happening. Then in the last 1/4 the story really picked up pace yet somehow the wheels fell off because everything happened! I’ve been saying for a long time that I’ve been struggling with possibly having read too many domestic/psychological thrillers, so I’m happy to accept it as a me thing.

I enjoyed the narrators voice.

What an interesting read!

I have to say that I really enjoyed reading this book. I haven’t heard of this author but the cover of the book intrigued me so I took a chance. I couldn’t wait to find out how or why a scorned wife would EVER befriend the very woman who stole her husband away after 20 Years to the day of what she believed was wedded bliss. Fast forward 5 years. This very woman who had imploded her life as she knew it, waltzes right back in, convinced that the ex-wife of her now husband is the only person that can help her. So I settled in and loved it....especially the end, because well Jenny and Helena are definitely not the women you think they are and it won’t take you long to realize why.

I have such a fascination for these types of stories and The Webs We Weave is way up there as one of the best that I have read! Michelle Morgan really delivers and then some with this story and I could not get enough of it! There is nothing more fun to read than a story of a woman scorned and in this case, it is one that is very scorned indeed!

The story plays out like an episode of the crime show “Obsession, Dark Desires” and I was immediately caught under its spell, invested and hooked right from the get go. It is deliciously wicked and Michelle Morgan does such a great job in its execution and ends it with an almightily bang which I did not see coming!

The characters are first class and have been superbly created. They really do come to life through the pages and each play out their roles perfectly. Michelle Morgan really gets into their heads and brings to the surface acts of obsession and the lengths that one will go it to get their revenge.

The story is well paced, flows perfectly and also keeps you engaged throughout. It was so easy to be caught up in it, so make sure you start it when you have nothing else to do, as you won’t be able to tear yourself away from it! I also loved the setting in a sea side town which is always a big plus for me and enhances my reading experience.

Michelle Morgan is a new author to me and one that I am so glad popped up on my radar. If you love a psychological thriller that is gripping and keeps you on the edge of your seat, furiously flicking through the pages and keeping you up until all hours, then The Webs We Weave is definitely for you!

It was an absolute pleasure to be able to read and review The Webs We Weave which I highly recommend. I will now be eagerly awaiting to see what Michelle Morgan comes up with for her reader’s next and I will definitely be first in line to read it!

Thank you to Michelle Morgan and Bloodhound Books for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The Webs We Weave, which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice Rating: 🌶️ It’s only getting this due to mentions of rape / attempted rape
Lanuage Rating: 🧡

So after my quick little fun listen, I went the totally opposite direction and went for a thriller.
The problem is that I found it WAY more amusing than I think it was meant to be. 🤣
While yes it has a devastating beginning where just hours before a dinner for the 20th year anniversary Craig ends his marriage to Jenny. It’s the classic mistress gives him an ultimatum and he decides to go for the younger, hotter, newer model and leave his ball and chain for good. 5 short years later karma is a b*tch and he does it again to Helena.
When Helena shows up at Jenny’s door their lives become insanely entangled with Jenny at the helm of let’s destroy Helena’s life.
I couldn’t really blame her thought because It’s ALLLL about Helena. And Helena’s lack of tact is just appalling at times. Some of the things that she reveals to Jenny just had my jaw on the floor. Mainly because of how she would deliver the information.
This book deals with A LOT of obsession… Jenny is a little coo coo for cocoa pops in the head.
So while I actually found the drama surrounding the circumstances amusing, it definitely took a real quick turn into sinisterville at the end of the book and I gotta say…I was pretty darn satisfied with how it ended. The very last twist I actually did not see coming until the literal last second.
Overall I liked this book, I was entertained and engaged. It was a great listen.
If you’re into thrillers and are okay with a story line of a serial cheater that has a major midlife crisis, along with bat 💩 crazy ex’s I would definitely recommend this one!

Bombshell

This book starts with a stunning bombshell. And then it's quickly followed by two more. By Chapter Six I was practically drooling, desperate to know what would happen next. Our POV character, Jenny, wades through the ever-crashing waves from the initial bombs. She's a likeable woman with a quick and clever inner voice that had me laughing out loud a few times. Her polite and kind personality begins to sour in the face of her new 'business client' and her intentions turn dark. But before she can do more damage than scratching the paint of their new car, another bombshell explodes. Two more interwoven bombshells, and I can't help but start to wonder if poor Jenny is being set up . . . but by who and why?

Morgan is a dang good writer. I found myself gulping down every page of this book well passed my bedtime for several now nights. However, there was a good chunk of this book toward the end but before the final bombshell that was quite slow, otherwise, I lived this novel. I'll be checking out more of Morgan's work.

Decent Read

A nice thriller to read but one that leaves me feeling rather weird. Overall a nice read that revolves around obsession... There's a lot of obsession.

Spoiler alert: Going back to the weird feeling, the ending feels rather inconclusive and saddening. I was heartbroken when I learned that Jenny pushed Helena and caused her to lose her unborn baby. I feel this book could have ended with Kate moving on with her life and so will Jenny. But then Helena called and we have this strange talk that ends up with Helena (probably) dying. The book felt pretty conclusive but then this threw a wrench in that. Honestly, this book would've been way better off ending right before Helena shows up. The ending makes me really question whether I like Jenny as a person and maybe that's the point but I can't really tell if it is.

Oh, what a tangled web Michelle Morgan weaves
I fell in love with Jenny’s seaside town and harbour house and thought her world was excellently described. Helena, the newly spurned and somewhat narcissistic wife, also felt very authentic. These two made the plot come alive and I was glued to the pages wondering how each one would react next. Great characterisation, a suspenseful atmosphere and a revenge story that I found really engaging, all contributed to making this a fab read that I couldn’t put down. If like me, you find yourself cheering Jenny on every step of the way, you will be shocked when things take a darker turn, and a menacing new world opens up leading to a heart-thumping, enthralling conclusion.

“An absolutely gripping psychological thriller” - that’s what’s written beneath the book title. Dark, I thought. But I found the first person narrative actually funny that I should probably feel guilty.

A woman left by her husband five years ago harbored ill feelings and was vengeful toward the woman whom he left her for. She has since moved on, then that same woman came knocking on her door because he left her for another one!

My reading was good going for a while... I understood Helena’s character because there really are needy, insecure women who seem to thrive in getting someone else’s boyfriend or husband to fall for them. I feel for Jenny, too, having been left by her husband on the night of their twentieth anniversary. Devastating, but was it enough to cause hurt?

It wasn’t even that thrilling for me; again because of the quips that I thought were funny. The funnies sort of dampened the thrill. I like the dark comedic tone until it got too dark towards the end, that it wasn’t funny anymore!

A book that will keep you reading until the end!

I started this book & didn't or more like couldn't stop reading until the end, it was a book that kind of mirrored my life in some ways ( I didn't go to the extremes that Jenny did, thought about it many times but never did😇)
The book takes a complete twist towards the end that I didn't see coming & when I got there I kept reading to get to the amazing outcome of this brilliant book!
I highly recommend to anyone but especially to women who have been heartbroken by their cheating Husbands & to read what one woman does due to being left for another woman!!
Enjoy & I promise you won't be disappointed!!

I listened to this book in one day!! I was enthralled from the start and could not stop. The real life, controversial, emotional and raw situations make you question yourself what you would do in a similar situation. It puts you into the mind of a wife who was wronged and really lets you connect with her. I don’t think I could do what she did so I was hooked to see how it turned out. It wasn’t an overly exciting plot line, but was extremely addicting. After the major events that ended the story, there were still some surprising twists at the end. I laughed out loud a few times and threw my hands up and threw my head back at the end…. Highly suggest this one! Well done!

The premise really pulled me in. Two women connected by the same man, trying to navigate betrayal, jealousy, and maybe even revenge. Definitely some juicy drama potential here.

Jenny, the main character, could be pretty frustrating with how obsessed she became, but I understood it as part of her downward spiral. She is not meant to be easy to root for. She is unraveling.

The twist with Annabel’s dad felt a little out of nowhere. I am not sure it added as much as it could have. The ending, though, was solid. Not mind-blowing, but satisfying enough to wrap it up well.

I would give it 3.5 stars. It was an enjoyable, fast read that kept me curious the whole way through.

Grabbed my attention right from the beginning and the author was able to get me invested in their characters and situations so much that I found myself talking out loud at certain parts as well as uttering my disgust with one of them. I can say there were a few twists and turns and the ending took me by surprise. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book from the publisher and author.

This book was marketed as a gripping psychological thriller but for me it was farcical and comedic, until the point that out of nowhere it turns quite sinister.
It’s about a woman scorned who becomes fanatical about her ex-husband’s new wife. I didn’t like or feel for any of the characters in the book, it’s only saving grace being the fictional seaside town it was set in.
Others have rated and enjoyed this book but it just wasn’t for me.
