I’ve been called lots of names at Hunter Moon Academy, but that’s the worst. Because it’s a secret that’s going to get me killed. And the one holding it over my head is Callum Sawyer, the cruelest alpha in the school.
The Sawyer pack heir never wanted me at this school, and even though I now have claws, he’s forcing me into an impossible deal. Something which his friends and rivals – the two alphas who own a part of me – will never understand.
But there’s more to this world than the four walls of the academy. My family, the most ruthless pack in shifter history, has plans for me. And the Devil of the Horn, with secrets of his own, is never far away.
My one chance to escape disappeared on the night of the Packball Cup. But if there really is a refuge for shifters like me, I’m going to do everything I can to find it. And all the claiming marks and broken hearts in the world won’t stop me.
Heartless is a full-length paranormal romance and is the third book in the Hunter Moon Academy series. It is a continuing story, so Book 1 and 2 must be read first. It is recommended for 18+ due to language, themes of dominance & control, and sexual situations.
I’m rating this overall for the series, because I don’t think I’ll finish it at this point.
It started off really slow, literally the entire first book could’ve been cut down to 50 pages if you cut out the unneeded bs.
The timeline is ridiculous and hard to keep up with. It feels like it’s been months and then they’re like “it’s been one week since XXXX” lol what? How is everyone so smitten and madly in love like they’ve been together for a decade?
There are too many stupid “unexpected” parts. You could tell the author decided to try to “surprise” everybody by throwing in 50 diff “surprise” scenarios. At this point, it’s like you know Trey is going to appear if Vail is alone, you know more people are going to come out as shifters, you know Pearl is going to set her up, you know someone else is going to break her trust. At this point the author has done it so much you no longer expect anything but “surprise stupid scenarios”. Which is why I’m not going to finish the series after this book.
I was given this book as an ARC review by Booksprout. I have bought books 1 & 2. Book 3 progresses the story very nicely. I need to know more about Reed's activities during this book. Some answers, some more questions. Book ends with a nice basis of people in the know and ready to help our girl, a smaller cliff hanger, but on a happier note then the previous two.

I am torn. I am interested in the plot, there is enough that is not explained that makes me want to know more, but I kind of hate this book. I hate how the main character is dragged from one place to another and life just happens to her. I hate that instead of talking about things, she stays silent, which makes even more avoidable problems. I was hoping this was the last book in the series, but apparently it is not. I am not sure if I will get the next one or not.
I was book stuffed when I was done and not even hungry for anything other than the next one.
Vail is still having boy problems, and in Heartless, they get direr. I mean, really, Simone Martin Leigh, could you give the girl a break? She must have relationship PTSD at this point. I'm not too fond of Callum, and he makes me want to puke in my shoe. He's a despicable alphason. I hope for bad things for him in the future. That isn't because of what happens in this book... that is a build-up over the series. Callum is an asshat, and I want a t-shirt that says that.
Book three in this series makes you want more of this story. I can't wait to see what happens with Vail, Jasper, Reed, Trey, and much more Marnie, please! I was a little frustrated because something that happens in Marrow hasn't lined up in HMA events yet, but I know it will be worth the wait as impatient as I am for Fearless.
Heartless is a five-star read. GO GET YOURS!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary advance copy of this book.
While a whole lot of questions are answered there are still a lot of unanswered questions. Book four will hopefully give us all the HEA we are hoping for .
This is the third book in the Hunter Moon Academy series, I do recommend reading it in order. It is is fantastic continuation of Vail's story. I do have a love/hate "relationship" with a certain character or two. There is great development in the story line. There are still lingering questions and unresolved issues, I am looking forward to reading the next book.
This series is improving a bit, and now the h is not quite so clueless, but I am still not sure if I like her much. Otherwise there is a cliffhanger of course and there are a few 🔥 scenes that give a grade of C+ and there is a good amount of action and danger.
The series continues with boy troubles but also a nice buildup plot wise as questions are answered and allies are found but still more questions abound. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The story keeps getting bigger and bigger. The lies, truths, and the everything in between. The characters are starting to show more depth and I love how the alpha females are starting to play a bigger role.
I'm not sure what is going on. I feel like we're on some weird roller coaster in a fun house, where we keep being twisted around and having things pop up and surprise us and it all leaves me with a sick and queasy feeling. I am so just disappointed and grossed out by this installment that I don't think I even want to continue and see the conclusion. From Callum to Trey and Reed, and Darkness, and even Jasper ... all the guys pretty much suck and have just used and abused the h and we are being flung back and forth between them and it's not fun. No enjoyment to be found in this book for me, just irritation and a grimy film.
We find out that not everyone is what they seem and some people are just horrible. With that ending I feel hopeful but I'm not sure what to think of Trey. Why is he still around? I can't see him ever being a hero.
I am a little tired of the revolving door of alphas that Vail seems to get involved with. At this point I feel like she is a bratty teenager too stupid to figure things out.
Have you ever read a Series that was just so good that you had to go through every book within 2 days question. Mark well that's what I have done for these 1st 3 books!I have read fallen in love with each and every one.
SYNOPSIS (of 4 Book series): The FC, Veil, was brought up, after her father died, by his best friend and son in a remote mountain area. They’re poor and live a simple, hard life. The FC is sent to Hunter Moon Academy which turns out to be for shifters. It’s there she finds out that shifters exist but that she whilst she is shifter she is different. She is a shifter who cannot turn or has no wolf. She is bullied by the 3 ruling alphas and a female alpha despite being claimed by one of them. The story covers how the FC learns who and what she is, how she survives at the Academy whilst considered the lowest of the shifter community and the reality of the shifter world and powerplays where she is caught in the middle. The shifter world in this story is very hierarchical with those of lesser standing treated very badly.
🌶️🌶️🌶️/🍆🍆 - the sex scenes are not too many but the are well written and hot.
I really enjoyed this series right up until the last book. It is hard going as the FC goes through some real crap and is relentlessly bullied and put down. Usually with this type of storyline the bullying will stop or reduce after the first or maybe second book but the FC just kept going through one thing after another right up until Book 4 so it was quite relentless and full of angst. At times I struggled with the fact that Veil never seems to get a break and it just seems to be one thing after another but there was enough happening and secrets revealed that it kept me gripped and reading on. What also kept me engaged was the idea that Veil would get to the light and happiness and those who had harmed her or tried to put her down would get their comeuppance. Unfortunately that did not happen and that massively impacted my view of this series. This has got to be one of the worst series for dragging things out and making things as dark as possible and the FC suffer but NOT then see any of the villains punished or things coming good. The whole climax was rushed considering the 3.5 Books I had to wade through to get there and then there was just nothing. Even the HEA was‘t really a HEA but more a „make do“ with what we have. Honestly I was in shock and almost threw my kindle at the wall I was so upset!
There are a lot of typos and a lack of editing but otherwise the writing is good and the story is solid with a decent amount happening to keep you invested. As mentioned the story is dark, not so much in terms of anything specific just the whole feel of the book is depressing and nothing positive happens to the FC. The bullying and putting down are relentless and the treatment of shifters considered less is just horrible. In addition, the MCs are very hard to like especially Callum who is just foul. The hierarchical rigidity of the shifters, the disgusting treatment of the duds and the absolute brutality and lack of empathy of any of the alphas is hard to get your head around especially as it is perpetuated by the MCs. A point to note is that this is not an RH - it took me quite a while to work that out.
We reach the big denouement and climax battle but actually don’t get much described to us about the fight. Just snapshots of different parts. There is too much happening during the big fight scene and whilst you get some real time description alot of what happened was described after the fact which meant you didn’t get the full picture or story. It left me feeling frustrated and dissatisfied. Why do authors do that? Spend large amounts of time with build up, creating horrible villains and then just rush through the finale? There were too many frustrating bits to list- Jasper’s mother didn’t end up having to admit what she had done was wrong or grovel; there’s no reference to Callum and what happened with him or any apology and nothing about Pearl or Lucius or Jonathan - what a let down. The big finale is all over quickly and we then spend longer reading about Veil’s depression and the afteraffects than the actual big finale. So disappointing.
The actual ending itself whilst technically a HEA does not leave you feeling particularly happy or satisfied. The main villains just disappear and are simply referred to in passing so you don’t actually know what happened to them and there’s no vengeance or concept of evil being brought down or changes being made to the shifter world.
Unfortunately despite this author clearly being able to weave a strong narrative I won’t be reading any future books. I don’t like spending my time getting invested in characters only to be left hanging.
Hahh no. Please. Not again. Was it a middle book? Was it nescessary? Honestly after the rush of the first two I was down a lil bit here. I honestly loved the tension and action paced first two book. Here? I felt bored sometime and my mind was wandering mtiple times that I had to re-read it. Was this just a stuffing book? Like how to lenghten a 3 book good story to 4 and whit that make it average?! Anyway I found boring all the overthinking the heroine was doing and mtiple times I fet that its just being written to fill the book/time whatever. Anyway it was an avarge book with ups and downs… It wouldnt keep me up however all night like the first two. However now that Im here Im gonna finish praying it goes up at least one star in the final book…
Ever read a book and then thought yep its time to do a re read of the series because I dont want to leave this world yet? Well that is me and this book. The characters are second to none. I love how strong the female lead is but she’s not over the top cocky or mean disguised as snark, she’s strong and independent and she knows who she is.
This series, the world building and the characters are amazing and if you want a fantastic read this is it. It’s in my top 5 series I have read this year. Now if you excuse me im off to book number 1 again
Iam torn with this book you see vail sort come into her skin so to speak but iam still on the fence there more questions then answers even though some are revealed i still have more ,And now Marnie with her new powers iam curious where this book will end iam waiting for the final book but dang with everything going on at the academy this book was a head turner,

Heartless is the best one in the series so far in my opinion. This story expands on the world and opens up a werewolf story to the wider supernatural world around it while hinting at much much more. Something that a lot of series miss but Heartless does quite well. Giving a look at the broader world without going overboard.
Once again the trials and tribulations of Vail and Jay surpassed my expectations. Yet another great read that I just could not put down. With as many surprises, roller coaster rides of emotions and shockers to keep one enthralled in the storyline… And once again I cannot wait to continue with the series to see where things end up….. A really really great read…..
This book begins after that twisted cliffhanger, and I can't wait to see what happens next. I'm still rooting for Vail and Jasper as a couple. The relationships are complicated, and the mating bonds are no joke. But the story is a page-turner. This book is twisted with secrets, revelations, and actions you don't expect.
If we know what she is, shifter-wise, we also get a whole political mess to deal with on top of alpha claiming.
This book gets complicated as more characters come into the plot and new secrets are revealed. This book has some very tense moments but also a little steam. I'm still rooting for Jasper and Vail and miffed with Trey and the other Alpha-holes. I've come around a little on Reeds' character, but I despise Callum.
This book ends with a bang and a teasing about what's to come.
The story of Jay, clan alpha, and his soul mate continues.
Hopefully she’s not making a big mistake, she still has no idea how she’s going to save Jay, herself, or the other alphas, but she wasn’t raised to quit….as Vail tries to figure out what she’s going to do, to not be used by others, and for once take control of her life, she realizes it’s not going to be easy. But her plan to just be good, and do as she’s told didn’t work either….looking forward to the next book.
This was so good. The emotions were all over the place. Vail and Jasper finally got through their issues only to end up on deaths door again. You will not be disappointed in this book or this series. I can not wait for the next book!!!

I thought this was a trilogy arrrggg! Cliff hangers drive me extra crazy when I get hooked into an incomplete series! Is it worth the wait? Absolutely! Laughs and tears and teen angst with why choose/one choice drama. I can't wait for her to finally meet her wolf.
Vail, Jasper, Callum and Trey are interwoven in this book. Vail has a secret and it leads to trouble. Between unwanted mates, danger, betrayal, and secrets being revealed, Vail uncovers secrets from her past. Interesting and exciting read.

Wow the twists and turns are so many but thrilling and exciting. Enjoying the series so much but I need the ending now, to know if Vail will have a wolf, if Trey will try to take her again, if Jasper will regain his Wolf and if Alpha Marrow will great his ending. Moving on to the next book.
I think the series’s a good read. Enjoyable, perfect for paranormal fans. It’s a fresh take on paranormal and it’s so easy to get lost in the world created by the author. The lack of character growth especially on the lead female is frustrating and sometimes turns the reader off though
This is crazy stuff for so young. I am surprised at how many twists that came. I usually pretty good but Cal, threw me for a surprise!
Now it Vail can just stick to who she loves would be great. (No she isn't sleeping around). She has some tough skin so she needs to use it with her animal.
4 1/2 stars I like this series and find the characters very intriguing. I thought this book was good but not as riveting as the previous books in the series. It was a good addition to the series even so. I requested a copy of this book and am voluntarily writing a review.
