‘This is a fine piece of work... very entertaining and informative... It should appeal and be useful to the generalist who wants an overview of science.’ Sir Peter Ratcliffe, 2019 Nobel Prize winner and head of clinical research at the Francis Crick Institute

The author covers a huge breadth of information in a very short and readable book. In some parts it's concise and informative and in others it seems a bit rushed and speculative. I found it enjoyable and will probably dip into chapters again over time.

Youniverse is an ambitious little book that tries to cover a huge range of scientific ideas in an engaging, and sometimes quite humorous, way. It explores the nature of the universe, the intricacies of atoms and of human cells, concepts of genetics and of artificial intelligence, all in about 160 pages. It does provide interesting information about more recent scientific thought - on quantum entanglement, genetic editing, and artificial intelligence. At one point the author offers a rather disquieting vision of the future - when there will be immortal "superhumans." All work will performed by AGI-enhanced robotic slaves and human reproduction will cease.

Inevitably, this short book comes up lacking in some places, leaving things rather hanging and a lot of questions unanswered. But it is an entertaining introduction to modern science.

Good book with bite size information to recap what I remember about science from when I was younger but wish it could’ve had covered it all in a bit more detail, but still good nevertheless.
