Dear friend,We know it deeply. It is so hard to juggle work, home, and spiritual life. As working women, we've wrestled with tough · How can I be effective in my work, and stay committed to the Gospel?· How can I be dedicated to my family, when my job is so demanding?· Why am I working so hard, and still so unfulfilled? Sound familiar? Like you, we see a culture that promotes success at all costs, andworking women are falling for it. It's happening every day. Priorities are shifting. Things are getting done . . . but are we doing what matters most? And that's why we wrote this book. This is the story of how we traded the lies of theworld for the truth of our loving Father--the lessons we learned that challenged culture's"good things" so we could find the greatest thing. The book you're holding in your hands is really a conversation--a conversation thatpushes back against our culture with a Gospel-centered approach to work andwomanhood, for the glory of God and the good of others.Let's get to work. His way. Michelle + Somer "This is the book for every working woman!"--ALLI WORTHINGTON, bestselling author and business coach
This was just a good encouragement when thinking about attitude and perspective while working. It’ll be a helpful thing to reference to when I need those reminders again!
Many women in the workplace feel the tension of managing life on the job and life at home. There can be strain trying to balance it all, causing feelings of guilt to surface, or frustration with the disorganized chaos it can become.
We struggle to reconcile our career pursuits, our identity among our peers and the push of the culture around us to achieve and succeed. For the woman who loves and follows Christ, these questions are so important to answer! And by his grace, the Lord provides us guidance and answers in his Word.
In, She Works His Way: A Practical Guide for Doing What Matters Most in a Get-Things-Done World by Michelle Myers and Somer Phoebus help us, as Christian women, learn how our roles and responsibilities sit under the authority of God, teaching us a biblical worldview of our work.
This book is written for the woman who finds herself - in the secular workplace or in ministry - struggling to reconcile the modern day mantras about who women 'should' be with the truth of God's Word.
"The world is trying so hard to convince you that you can do it all, be it all and have it all. An apart of you really wants to believe it" but, "dependence on God is the foundation for following him. That's why we must constantly remind ourselves that as believers, self-sufficiency is a deficiency."
The chapters dive into topics about ambition, identity, success, relationships, listening and leading, showing us how scripture teaches us the way of the cross in all these areas of our working lives. Our careers aren't just work, they are our daily opportunity to be the hands and feet of the Lord Jesus, and his mouthpiece of love and grace to those we meet; all for the good of others and the glory of God.
I particularly love the powerful prayer at the end of every chapter, they've been ones I return to during the early hours of my day as they reorient my mindset from one of selfish striving to selfless service.
She Works His Way is also a discipleship community, where they host classes on business training and personal development that aligns with God's Word and is: dependent on God, dedicated to family, committed to the gospel and effective in our work.
If you're looking to understand what scripture teaches us about our work and to apply it practically to your life, this great book is coming out in October. Preorder it today! You'll also get access to a study guide that goes along with the book, which you would work fantastic in a small group setting.

"She Works His Way" is a refreshing entrant to the personal-growth, career, and leadership genres!
I've read "a few" (read: a ton, haha) of books in each of these genres, and very few have risen to the top as fast as this one did. In a world full of "follow your passion/dreams" and "do what makes you happy" messaging, Phoebus and Myers remind the Christian woman of exactly where our value, worth, and indeed, passion should be found--in Christ. He is the source, and pursuit of him should be over all things--even, perhaps especially, over things I love. Including Baby Yoda (she typed, wincing).
The read is convicting and encouraging, often at the exact same time! :D Which is really just what I need. And I love it even more because I've been following the authors' blog/website, also named She Works His Way, for some time; reading their book gave me so much insight into them, their heart for the SWHW community, and its many resources available. Building relationship, even via a book, takes experiences to the next level--from "why should I trust this voice"/"what's in it for me" to "they genuinely care about their audience" and, ultimately, the shared pursuit of Christ--the best endeavor any of us can be on.
Highly recommended. 5/5 stars.
I received an eARC of the book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Working women need a particular kind of encouragement in the middle of all the things they juggle. Michelle Myers and Somer Phoebus speak right to the heart of a working woman, digging deep into her motives and struggles. It’s not a surface book with little tips to help with time management. Instead, it’s a heart-level book written from their own wrestling matches with God, which encourages working women to engage their faith at all levels of their lives. The prayers at the end of their chapters are especially meaningful. I liked the way they honestly wrote about defeating comparison and cultivating contentment.
I cannot tell you how many times I have quoted this " Better life balance is not the solution. Order is. We are divinely designed to put God first" to about 20 people! As a pastors wife that is also in the work field, I felt very seen and cared for in this book. I was challenged and brought back to truth. I cannot recommend this enough!!!

A wonderfully practical and purposeful guide to working in partnership with Christ! Balanced with scriptural analysis and relevant storytelling, this book exceeded my original expectations. I ended up underlining much of my physical copy, and I expect to return to it from time to time. I even loved the companion prayers written at the end of each chapter. Highly recommend!
The authors of this book have the best of intentions to encourage Christian, working women to prioritize their lives in a simple way - Jesus first, always. I love the simplicity of their overarching message and how the chapters compare what culture says vs. what God says. Unfortunately, I left the book with more questions and uncertainty than answers regarding two of the chapters. I felt that the message on self-denial could easily be construed to think that our own needs and desires do not matter. I am a firm believer in boundaries and of course caring for others- but not always at the expense of self. That is not loving to anyone. The chapter on giving left me wondering if the authors were suggesting that living with faith means not investing money at all. I don’t think that is what they meant, but I felt very confused by this chapter. For me the uncertainty seemed to overshadow a lot of the very positive messages.
In She Works His Way, Michelle Myers and Somer Phoebus have written a book about helping woman manage their busy working lives and instead focusing more on the things that matter most. They start by explain how women are pulled between different directions and the world is trying to convince them of what they can’t do and be. They shared how we crave God and we struggle with keeping God first. Michelle shared how she personally struggled with approval and it began in school with her grades, fitting in with other girls, and turned into male approval. She opened up about how she has a workaholic mentality. She shared how we can all turn to different idols such as: money, success, control, self, and stuff. We need to learn to replace our idols with worshiping only God. Somer was a little different in the fact that she needed to prove herself. She struggled with being in control and she realized that work was becoming her identity. In the book, they explored how the Gospel needs to be our jobs and our career should be our side focus. They looked at the life of Paul and how he a tentmaker and we didn’t read about how this was his main goal in life. He had a bigger perceptive of carrying out the Lord’s plan and reaching the Church.
I would recommend this wonderful book to women and it will benefit them from not seeking the sole satisfaction of their careers. They can instead seek God and go after what He wants for their lives. I immensely loved the chapter on love and what love is and how we are supposed to love others. This is one of the most core foundation of the Christian life. Another key chapter, I enjoyed was the one on approved. This one teaches us how to handle critics, how to handle quitting, and flattery. I also liked how the discussed social media and how this effects our brain. This chapter has the power to help readers to break the chains of people pleasing and instead live for God’s approval. This book will assist women in reprioritizing their life and focusing on His ways.

She Works HIS Way: A Practical Guide for doing what Matters in a Get-Things-Done World by Michelle Myers and Somer Phoebus
This book is just so good!
It's written for working women, but don't let that deter you if you are a stay at home mom, caretaker, etc. This book takes the world's view and expectations of work and compares them to what the Lord has to say about work.
It's not just about productivity and getting things done. You won't find a list of how to get more done in 24 hours or 5 things to make you more successful at work.
What you'll learn is that relationships are more important than achievements, serving and leading can go hand in hand when we lead BY serving, freedom from the Pressure of success comes through obedience.
Somer and Michelle tell their stories in alternating chapters on how they learned to work for the glory of God rather than for success, fame, money or approval.
I learned so much that I can apply to my own job as a stay at home mom. This book may be written for women in the workforce or thos in minisrty, but all women work and all women would benefit from this book.
At the end of each chapter there is a prayer for each topic. At the end of the book there are a few pages for you to write notes or journal thoughts.
In the conclusion section, they write a few paragraphs to specific people (overthinkers, perfectionists, workaholics, and the discontented). If I had to pick a favorite section, I think this may be in the running.
I enjoyed this book in its entirety. I cannot choose a favorite chapter or topic. I hope anyone who reads this learns as much as I did!
This is going to be one of my top recommendations for business books now and it isn’t (really) focused on business!!!
I’ve followed SWHW on Instagram for a while now. I don’t remember how I found them, but they consistently encourage and challenge me. Their posts are uplifting and convicting. This book is no different.
Each chapter takes a look at an aspect of business (and life) and what the world says about it versus what God says about it. They share personal examples (they are quite raw and honest with us) and clearly and simply lay out what it looks like to work and live HIS way.
I keep saying work and life because what they share is not limited to work and probably starts at home anyway.
I love how steeped in Scripture this book is and the amazing prayers at the end of each chapter. I highlighted the heck out of my ecopy and now have to go write it all down.
Many thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own and a favorable review was not required.
Excellent book on putting our focus on what matters, in Christ. There were a lot of "Culture says/Christ says" sayings that help us to reshape and/or refocus our attention on where it should be, along with practical applications and stories on how this looks in a real world situation. I think that my favorite chapter was chapter ten, where it talks about being "spiritual sisters instead of spiritual superiors" only because it speaks to my own heart of how I am interacting with my "sisters" and how easily I can fall into the "superior" section. Another favorite part of this book is the prayers after every chapter. Man oh man, talk about getting real, raw, and honest. I LOVED these! Excellent excellent job. I've followed their site for a while as well as reading their devotionals on YouVersion, and couldn't wait to read their book. Highly recommend it. *I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. Normally I find business books geared toward Christian women lacking because they focus on being a "boss babe" or increasing your "hustle." That was not the case with She Works His Way. Somer Phoebus and Michelle Myers have written a book that I think everyone could benefit from. With a look at how the world tells us to live and comparing it to what scripture says, Phoebus and Myers point the reader back to the gospel in every page.
I appreciated the work put in to make sure everything was backed by scripture and true to the original text. The prayers at the end of each chapter held so many footnotes to point us back to scripture. I've come out of reading this book with a new perspective in many areas!
I loved this book—it was super encouraging for me as a woman who wants to use my work/career for the mission of God but faces the standard cultural temptations. I loved the authors’ insights as working moms too. There was so much Scripture and wisdom all throughout, and I know I’ll refer back to its message again and again.
Some favorite quotes:
“Better life balance is not the solution. Order is. We were divinely designed to put God first.”
“Dependence on God is the foundation for following Him…as believers, self-sufficiency is a deficiency. Because you can’t live in a way that is both God-dependent and self-sufficient.”
“His mission field for you is wherever He has you.”
She Works His Way is a great book to put your focus back on Jesus, where it’s supposed to be. We are created for Him and His glory not our own. Summer and Michelle share their lives and their hearts with the reader practical ways to learn more about our purpose and live that out, whether our job is in ministry or in the secular world. We can live out His plan in any place as long as we are open to His leading. I enjoyed this book because it convicted me but also gave me hope that all is not lost as long as I am seeking to do His will.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion.
Thanks to Bethany House for the free book. This is a book I will be returning to again and again. I liked how it was written by two women because their experiences were so different, yet I was able to relate to parts of both of their stories. And while their stories differed, their reliance on the Word did not. I felt so convicted and encouraged while reading this. I think it is a book for anyone who feels like everything is too much at time - when there's a struggle to know if there will ever be 'balance' again. Every topic points back to what God says. I savored this book and was sad to finish. It is one of the most impactful Christian living books I've read this year.
Every woman needs to read this book. It is packed (and I mean packed!) with wisdom, biblical truths and practical advice for how we can do what matters most. Culture tells us to strive, be known, seek approval and put ourselves above all else. We've fallen into this trap, and we are worn out and discouraged. Thank you, Michelle and Somer, for showing us there is another way -- God's way. If you want your daily prayer to be: "Jesus, use my life to point others to you," this book is just what you need.
I have been following along Michelle Myers via my personal fitness journey and have really enjoyed her encouragement on social media so I was excited when I saw this book as an option to request on Netgalley!
In true Michelle fashion she spares us of the fluff and goes straight to the heart, discussing what society tells us vs. what God tells us and how we can stop buying into all of the lies the world offers and to be mature women in Christ. This book is practical and full of Biblical truth.
Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Do you ever feel like it's too much? Like you can't do it all? Like you have no idea how to be a Believer in God in the I-can-do-it working world? I did. For years I've struggled to know how to balance it all, how to achieve at work while still following Jesus. This book helped me see that it isn't about balance -- it's about submission. If I submit to God FIRST, and not try to balance my career with my faith, my life will be a lot less complicated. Thank you, Michelle and Somer, for writing a book that went straight to my heart.
Absolutely wonderful book. This book felt like a slap in the face..in the best possible way. I don’t remember the last time a book challenged me so much. Because of this book..I’ve been thinking about things more deeply in my walk with Christ more so than I ever have. This is a must read for every Christian woman..no matter the occupation or there lack of. It’s practical, up front and life changing. The author(s) bring bible stories to life I had never given much thought to. Thank you Michelle and Somer!
It's one of the top books I have read this year so far and will recommend it to others. As the book says.... exposing culture lies and elevating Gods truth. It is a very impactful book that offers scripture, a beautifully written prayer after each chapter, and practical insight that makes you be encouraged in your personal relationship with the Lord. It is clear that these authors had a deep desire to reach their audience, and they absolutely do! This book has left a lasting and impactful impression.
I have a few books on my list to read through in a book club way, and this one is definitely being added to that list! Don’t be deceived by the title to think that you need a particular occupation outside of the home to read this book!
I was nodding my head and highlighting all over the place, and have this book earmarked for a second, slower read to better apply the biblical truths into my own life.
This is the book you never knew you needed to read. It's a practical, faith based conversation with your besties on how to find "balance" in a world that demands more from you as a friend, wife, mother, etc. This book has application not just for your work life but in your personal life too. I bought this book with the intention to share and found myself underlining, highlighting and taking notes in the margins. Michelle and Somer make it ok to be who you are called to be in Christ.
This book was a God send for the season of life I'm in. Life is crazy and the practical and biblical wisdom in these pages helped me to remember how God sees me, who I am in Him, and what the main focus is and should remain. I desperately needed the reminder that He is our one true source for everything and He has it all under control. All we need to do is trust Him and walk in obedience and faith!
This was a very good book, showing what society tells us vs. what God tells us and how we can stop buying into all of the lies and instead focus on the truths of God. I enjoyed the personal stories woven in with the inspiring messages.
Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Inspiration for my walk in faith with Christ. Decided to read the book again but to study it along with Scripture. So many insights in everyday life, and opened my eyes to things I do or say which I must be attent to and change my thoughts and ways. Most definitely recommended to readers who want to get inspire and be in awe of God's sovereignty.
Loved it!!! Such wonderful biblical encouragement for Christian women who work outside the home. Super neat too that it’s written by two pastors wives that are also entrepreneurs & executives. Such a rare and encouraging combo!! Thank you for continuously pointing to the Gospel and reminding me of what matters most in my life as a Christian, wife, mother & business woman.
One of the best faith-based books I’ve read in a long time! I loved the way the book was set up. Each chapter covered different topics that challenge how culture perceives we should live vs how God has called us to live. This book tackles work as a ministry, marriage, family, parenting, servant-leadership, active listening, obedience and so much more! I would definitely recommend it.
A couple chapters were slow for me as it laid the important groundwork and I don’t agree with all the theology, BUT there is sooooo much good in this book that it’s a must read for every Christian woman.
