When She Dies

Rate this book
Emily has never fitted in. For years she’s tried to come to terms with her childhood, specifically her mother’s behaviour, and still she can’t work it out. In her forties now, she sits on her sofa to unpick everything, to inspect her life and make sense of it, of herself—before she embarks on a path she always thought she would, deep in the woods where the old ash tree stands…

Jean has never fitted in either. She’s lived her life on her terms, lying and scheming to get her own way. She’s impatient for her dreams to come true, but events have a way of going wrong, preventing her from gaining the respect she craves. She plots, she seethes, she kills, and she hates the world she’s trapped in, one of her own insane creation.

Lucy isn’t having much luck. Her life has turned into a nightmare, and she’s desperate to be free of the drudgery, the unfairness, the cruelty. Abused, left to bring up her son alone, she’s angry and wants retribution. It isn’t forthcoming, so she spends her time being wicked to her child, because, why not?

Three women, all tied together, all of them unhappy with their lot.

Which one will have the guts to change their destiny?

Which one will dance on the grave of the other, victorious?

The spinney is a dangerous place. Don’t go there…

Three Different Women, Torn And Tumultuous Lives...

Three women, explaining their lives, the secrets they had to keep, the sins, the pain that haunts them always. How do they continue living with such hurt inside, can they go on happily... This is a very emotional read, the words of the women are raw and from deep inside a part of them most of us will never see or feel, if we are lucky. These characters come alive, right there beside you, as you live through every moment with them.
I was confused at times, unsure of what I was feeling at others, not knowing if I wanted to help Emily, Jean, or Lucy, or actually run off far from their pain. A psychological thriller that will have you looking differently at your own years growing up, by an author who finds a way to hook me into every book she writes!!

Yet another fabulous read from this super talented author. In this psychological thriller we follow three women through the decades, each with horrendous tales to tell.

Emily, Jean and Lucy, all jump off the page, you can't help but feel sorry for them. Great characters who have all been dealt a raw deal in this life, but do they have the courage to alter their futures and revenge their pasts?

Intrigue, retribution, heartfelt angst, anger, hatred, self-destruction. They're all there in this chilling tale.

The spinney is a dangerous place. Don’t go there…

Three women. Three pasts that haunt them. But how best to escape the hurt?

I've read numerous books by Emmy, but none have been quite as raw and emotional as this one. It's not an easy read. In fact there were times I had to pause and take a breather before continuing.

This is a powerful book. By that I mean that I felt so many emotions, each dependant on the character causing them. Some characters I wanted to shelter and protect (almost like a fatherly instinct,) and then there were others that made me want to wring their necks with my bare hands.

By the time I'd got to the end of the book I completely understood why Emily decided to do things the way she did. The powerless, the abused and discarded now showing her power, control and sense of retribution. And although a story, I still can't help but hope that Emily has found the love and peace she so deserved.

Another brilliant told book.

We all know the importance of having a good childhood. But what if you don’t, what if you end having a mum who made your life a misery.

2 childhoods shattered, 2 lives changed forever but bonded by one thing - revenge

Confusing but riveting.

A strange tale of revenge and anger, with someof the not so nice topics thrown in. Left wondeing the point of it all.

Gripping from start to finish, so much so that I've finished it in less than a day. Brilliantly written and it's a book that will stay will stay with me for a while.

Gripping

I was so gripped by this the latest offering from Emmy Ellis from the start that I read it in 2 sittings. It stirs the brain. Memories haunt just as much as actions.
