Once upon a time Ambrey and Grey were THAT couple. The rebellious guy from the wrong side of the tracks and the good rich girl. Two teenagers starting their lives and with such a strong bond that they didn't care about people trying to broke them up, but Ambrey's father, a corrupt judge, did everything he could to keep them apart and he succeeded. Now life throws them together again, but perhaps the memories of the past are too painful for a second chance.
Having previously read R. Holmes, and her alter ego, Maren Moore, Mad Love is something quite different from her; a heartbreaking second-chance romance with the single dad trope, and a magical vibe wrapping the entire story. Ambrey's character was very sweet; always caring and compassionate, trying to distance himself from her parents figure and the bad things they did. Also, it's been 8 years since she think Grey left their relationship without explanation, but even though those feelings are still there I loved how frank she was with him and how she wasn't willing to get whiplash with his actions. Grey was a difficult character to warm up to, with his hot and cold actions towards Ambrey, but once he made up his mind it was sweet to see how much he has always cared about her. And the way he was with his little daughter... I love the single dad trope SO MUCH!

Oh my- what a touching love story. Ambrey and Grey just stole my heart, while reminding me just how epic and circuitous the path to love can be. R Holmes brings such emotion to their story- while also bringing such amazing NOLA vibes that make my Southern heart so happy.
This is a second chance story with star-crossed themes- the poor badboy with the rich princess, connected by their soul but restrained by their backgrounds. But, true love can not be contained- and these two fall hard for each other, only for their obstacles to get in the way. Now older, and both free of the societal burdens that limited them in the past, can these two find a way back to each other? Their path isn’t easy- its full of angst and mistrust and heartbreak, but they have a love worth fighting for.
Grey is such a swoon-worthy hero- he’s survived so much and has every reason to grumble and be bitter, but he keeps fighting for a better life. His resilience and focus are admirable, and his inner strength makes him such a grounding and magnetic character. He’s certainly scarred by his adversity, but he’s not defined by it. And him with his daughter- UUUUUGH I can’t even with the adorableness. He melted my heart every time- R Holmes so beautifully uses these moments to articulate the depths of his character, the beauty of his heart.
And I sure felt for Ambrey- despite growing up in a life where she should have everything, despite having the family that Grey didn’t, she too has suffered. Her father is corrupt, truly horrible, and her mother is negligent. But, she, too, hasn’t let this define her- she’s a beautiful soul. She’s loving, and open, and authentic- even though she too bears the scars of her emotional neglect- which makes opening herself up to Grey so scary, her heart is so vulnerable. That causes her to mistrust in ways that I can empathize with, even if I didn't always fully understand her choices - choices in particular that hurt them in the past.
Their connection is so tender, so intimate and soulful. These two just fit- they belong, despite their emotional baggage. R Holmes is such a wonderful character writer- which results in such compelling chemistry. We slowly start to understand these two, but from the beginning we feel their nuances, the emotional complexities that the past, insecurities, and maturity have amplified. This is a couple you root for- a couple you adore.
What a sweet, angsty, and emotional love story- and a story of self-actualization. That’s the power of soul-mate love- its a love that helps you be more you. And that love is worth the journey- as long and challenging as it may be.

This was a different book than what I have read so far by R. Holmes: It’s not as dark as the BOSA stories or as adorable and festive as Jingle Wars, BUT it’s s just as moving, interesting, with the touch it sensuality that I love, a story and incredible characters that I fell in love with.
Ambrey is an absolute queen! a brave girl, with a good heart, grateful and who is very clear about her beliefs, morals and limits, and acts accordingly. She’s a woman who is not afraid to say what she thinks and to confront who is necessary to do justice, it’s definitely an inspiration for me, and what I liked the most was his decision to remove toxic relationships and people from his life, no matter who they are. I loved his personality, his courage to let Grey know what she wants, feels and put him in his place when’s necessary, but at the same time, his great heart to support Emily Kate when the little girl needs it. Obviously my heart broke with hers as I read her going through so many obstacles in her personal and love life, but I always liked the way she faced everything and kept fighting.
Grey is the new love of my life, a man who has had to face difficult trials from an early age, but who still retains his ability to love and tries to be happy with his little girl daughter, however, Grey has some trouble overcoming his past, insecurities and fears when it comes to opening his heart to someone else, or the same person who destroyed him years ago. Grey is a very interesting, complex character with a moving story that I enjoy very much, he’s a loving, dedicated and adorable father when he is with little Emily Kate, but it also has a sexy and flirty side that I loved discovering.
One of my favorite things in this story was being able to know the beginnings of Grey & Ambrey with the constant memories of its past, besides that it helped me much more to understand the plot better, from those I remember it’s evident the great love that both have for each other, was beautiful to read their interactions and plans together and extremely painful to know how things ended at that moment. The reunion is surprising and fun, I really liked their constant push and pull, the sexual tension that existed between them and the dynamic they enter thanks to Em. I think that everything in the relationship of these two occurs at the right time, because they have many unresolved situations, both personally, as a couple, and it is very sweet to know that, even if they are not together, they are still an important part of life. of the other. The twists towards the end of the plot were perfect and the way R. Holmes handled the situation with Charlotte I loved it.
The secondary characters, as always in the books by this author, stole my heart, they are super important in the main story and they also have their own stories: Lulu I liked it a lot, even though it doesn't have many appearances their importance in the life of Ambrey is enormous and very beautiful, and Madison & Bishop are INCREDIBLE, I am dying to read and enjoy them more.

Es una mujer que no tiene miedo de decir lo que piensa y de enfrentarse a quien sea necesario para hacer justicia, definitivamente, es una inspiración para mi, y lo que más me gustó fue su decisión de sacar de su vida las relaciones y personas tóxicas, sin importar quienes sean. Me encantó su personalidad, su valentía para hacerle saber a Grey lo que quiere, siente y ponerlo en su lugar cuando fue necesario, pero al mismo tiempo, su gran corazón para apoyar a Emily Kate cuando la pequeña lo necesita. Obviamente mi corazón se rompió con el de ella mientras la leía pasar por tantos obstáculos en su vida personal y amorosa, pero siempre me gustó su manera de afrontarlo todo y seguir luchando.

El reencuentro es sorprendente y divertido, me gustó mucho su constante estira y afloja, la tensión sexual que había entre ambos y la dinámica en la que entran gracias a Em. Creo que todo en la relación de estos dos se da en el momento adecuado, pues tienen muchas situaciones sin resolver, tanto de manera personal, como pareja, y es muy tierno saber que, aunque no estén juntos, siguen siendo parte importante de la vida del otro. Los giros hacia el final de la trama fueron perfectos y la manera en la que R. Holmes llevo la situación con Charlotte me encantó.

R. Holmes delivered a heartrending and soul deep story of second chance, star crossed love and angsty emotions in Mad Love. Grey and Ambrey's story touched me so deeply!
Grey and Ambrey are from two sides of world. Ambrey belongs to rich and powerful part whereas Grey is from the poor and underprivileged part. He has always been judged and misunderstood for his foster family upbringing and tattoed appearance. But nothing stopped Ambrey and Grey becoming soulmates in high school. But by twist of fate Grey went to prison and their love got destroyed. Now Ambrey is back to NOLA hometown eight years later. And she meets Grey and his daughter Emily Kate.
I am so in love with Grey. This man is just incredible. He has been tortured and broken and beaten. But he has come out as stronger and didn't let his past dictate his future. He is financially stable and the most caring and responsible father to adorable Emily Kate! He still has darkness in his heart and scars on his soul but he is full of kindness and compassion. I cannot tell you how much I adore Ambrey. Despite her corrupt and evil father and neglectful mother, she has grown upto be an amazing woman. She still carries so much heartbreak inside but she is the most honest, loving and passionate person ever. She accepted Grey and Emily even if that means opening herself for pain. They have a magnetic chemistry that gave me all the swoon and goosebumps. It was an angsty ride with years of heartache exploding. Emily Kate was brightest of all the stars!
Mad Love by R. Holmes was a perfect combination of swoon, heat, heartache and happily ever after. The author has made me fall in love with her gritty writing immediately.

Single dad second chance romance - YES PLEASE! To say i’m a sucker for a single dad would be an understatement, it’s just something about how sweet they are with their kids and Grey is honestly the sweetest with Emily his 3 year old who is wise beyond her years!
When Ambrey comes back to town and Grey realises that she is his daughters therapist he immediately wants nothing to do with her because of what happened when they were younger but they learnt to deal with that for the sake of helping Emily
You can see how much chemistry they still feel towards each other and you know that it’s going to be epic when they reunite and boy it was!
It was such a sweet and adorable read and definitely one you need to check out

I enjoyed this single dad, second chance romance. I loved Grey, Ambrey, and Emily's story. It was heartbreaking, emotional, and heartwarming. Grey and Ambrey have histories and pasts with each other. For 4 years, Grey has been building a new life for his daughter, Emily. And now his life is intertwined with his past again.
Their story is so emotional. But it was so beautiful. However, I can't help but feel like I've read this story before. Especially that drug scene, I'm pretty sure I've read a book with a similar plot before.

Ambrey and Greys was wonderful! I must say I was a bit anti Grey in the beginning because he was so cold towards Ambrey in the beginning but loved how they found their way towards each other. It helped a lot that we got all those flashbacks to help us understand them and where they are coming from. Grey and his little girl were absolutely sweet but also loved the relationship Ambrey built with her. I thought this story was such a wonderful read!

To say I was MADly in love with this story would be an understatement. I loved the character and relationship building. Grey is a new breed of troubled hero and his evolution and journey kept me hooked. Ambrey was relatable and wasn't a typical "damsel" heroine which showed that a strong h and H can coexist in the most beautiful way. I will warn...I cried like 4 times so reader beware 🤣

Sapete quando un romance riesce a farvi impazzire? Ecco, letteralmente Mad Love.
Perché questa è la storia di Ambrey e Grey, due personaggi divisi da incomprensioni, ingiustizie e orgoglio, due persone all' opposto ma accomunate da disfunzioni familiari e voglia di appartenersi.
Grey, non ha mai avuto una famiglia da chiamare tale, etichettato da sempre come problematico da quelle affidatarie e dalla gente snob e con potere come quella di Ambrey, nasconde un animo raro.
Lei, invece, una famiglia ce l' ha, ma è quanto di più sbagliata e tossica ci sia, una di quelle per le quali conta solo l' apparenza a qualsiasi costo.
E quando le anime di Ambrey e Grey si incontrano, succede che scoprono cosa sia l'amore, seppur giovanile e acerbo, uno di quelli che potrebbero sbocciare in quell' amore unico che tutti cercano. Eppure viene stroncato sul nascere, costando a Grey tutto, e derubando Ambrey di quel porto sicuro dove sentiva di poter vivere davvero.

Ambrey torna a casa dopo 5 anni, non vede Grey da 8, e i sentimenti per lui che pensava ormai di aver sepolto a fatica riemergono quando il destino li fa incontrare di nuovo. Grey, però, ormai è un uomo riscattato e realizzato, è un padre che dedica tutta la sua esistenza alla figlia e al lavoro, e deciso a non permettere più a nessuno di potergli togliere la libertà. Innamorarsi di Ambrey gli è costato tutto una volta, e non può succedere di nuovo. Ma non si può combattere il destino, non importa quanto duramente ci si provi.

Ambrey ora è diventata quello che ha sempre voluto, aiutando per lavoro i bambini a non sentirsi come si è sentita lei a causa dei genitori, ed è proprio questo che la riporta da Grey, grazie alla sua bambina.
Il risentimento e l' orgoglio di lui sono forti, la delusione e il senso di tradimento di lei forse di più, eppure non riescono a non gravitare l'uno verso l' altra, come calamite, come se avessero ripreso a respirare solo dopo essersi ritrovati insieme, dopo anni di apnea.

Quello che più mi ha fatto impazzire durante la lettura è stato riuscire a sentire il dolore di entrambi, leggere delle motivazioni di entrambi ma allo stesso tempo chiedermi perché loro due non siano mai riusciti ad affrontarsi, nemmeno rivendosi dopo anni.
Ed è qui che la scrittura e la narrazione dell' autrice compiono la loro magia. Attraverso i pov alternati, e i flashback del passato, riusciamo a vivere gli eventi due volte, nei panni di entrambi, e avendo noi quel pezzo di puzzle che invece manca a loro per scoprire la verità.
Vittime di inganni, ingiustizie e manipolazioni dovute al padre di lei, Ambrey e Grey non hanno potuto avere quell' amore che stavano costruendo, che meritavano. Una scintilla destinata a spegnersi, ma non ad estinguersi per sempre, e quando il sentimento che si vuole combattere è forte abbastanza da prevalere succede che la scintilla esplode. Ambrey e Grey erano destinati ad un amore come "il sole, le stelle e tutto ciò che c'è in mezzo" e, con non poca fatica, riescono finalmente ad affrontarsi e mettere un punto al passato, ma soprattutto a vivere il futuro del quale erano stati derubati, con maggiore consapevolezza e maturità. Con una luce in più rispetto all' oblio che li ha inghiottiti ingiustamente in passato.
Ho amato come siano stati caratterizzati anche i personaggi secondari e soprattutto come la figlia di Grey abbia avuto un impatto così forte sul loro legame spezzato.

Ringrazio ancora una volta la casa editrice per la copia, ho letto diversi libri e generi dell' autrice, alcuni piacendomi totalmente altri lasciandomi combattuta, ma questo è stato decisamente come un rollercoaster, e non vedo assolutamente l' ora di imbarcarmi nuovamente in un suo romanzo.

Per Ambrey tornare a New Orleans significa riaprire una ferita che lei pensava chiusa da tempo.
Tornare nella casa dei suoi genitori, ora defunti, la costringe a ripensare al passato, a come loro abbiano sempre cercato di controllare la sua vita, a come suo padre, irreprensibile giudice agli occhi della comunità fosse in realtà corrotto e incline a usare il suo potere più per ferire le persone che per aiutarle.
Vedere il suo volto per la prima volta dopo più di otto anni è stato come uno shock fisico per il mio corpo, una vera e propria scossa di incertezza, dolore e sofferenza che mi sono tornati in mente quando l’ho guardato negli occhi. Quegli stessi occhi verdi che leggevano la mia anima come se fosse la sua, solo che stavolta non ho riconosciuto l’uomo che mi guardava. Più duro, più stanco, più cauto con le emozioni che mostra sul viso. Molto somigliante al ragazzo che conoscevo, ma ora molto più simile all’uomo per cui darei qualsiasi cosa pur di sapere tutto. Un uomo di una bellezza talmente straordinaria che mi si è seccata la bocca nel trovarmelo di fronte.
Per Grey è uno shock scoprire che la psicologa infantile che dovrà occuparsi della sua bambina altri non è che la ragazza di cui anni prima era innamorato, quella che gli era costata il cuore e la libertà.
I tre anni di prigione ingiustamente scontati gli sono stati sufficienti per capire che deve tenersi lontano da Ambrey, oltretutto ora deve preservare non solo sé stesso ma anche sua figlia.
Nella mia mente, lei si avvicina sempre abbastanza, ma mai a sufficienza da poterla afferrare. Il fantasma di un ricordo. La persona che odio con tutto me stesso. Ambrey. Ho passato quattro anni chiuso in una prigione cercando di lasciar andare l’unica persona che avevo giurato di non lasciare mai. Ed è esattamente quello che ha fatto lei.
Rimanere lontani è più difficile di quello che pensano, soprattutto perché a dispetto del tempo, della distanza e della loro volontà qualcosa tra loro è sopravvissuto e lotta per tornare a galla.
Dovranno affrontare una volta per tutte il passato e chiarire i punti oscuri della loro storia, con il rischio che questo possa separarli definitivamente oppure unirli per sempre.
Eravamo come due tempeste che si scontravano costantemente l’una contro l’altra, lasciandoci dietro una scia di distruzione e carneficina. Non so se questa volta sarò abbastanza forte da sopravvivere. Ma sono già stata stupida tante volte in passato, e sono disposta a cadere ancora una volta per mano sua.
Ambientata nella magica atmosfera di New Orleans questa è una storia che parla di sentimenti e di seconde possibilità. Tenero e bellissimo il rapporto tra Grey e la figlia, un padre disposto a sacrificare tutto per il bene della figlia, che allo stesso tempo riesce ad essere amorevole e protettivo.Bello il modo in cui Ambrey si inserisce perfettamente nelle loro vite, come se ne fosse stata parte da sempre, come se il presente che ora vivono insieme fosse figlio di quel passato che non hanno mai potuto vivere.Il doppio pov mi ha fatto amare molto Grey, nelle sue difficoltà grandi e piccole sull’essere padre, nel suo accettare un amore per una donna che credeva perduta per sempre.Ambrey inizia forse un po’ sottotono, sempre quasi una vittima delle circostanze, ma poi acquista una sua sicurezza che la rende la compagna perfetta per Grey.
Una bella storia d’amore perfetta per il periodo di San Valentino.

Cari lettori, nuovo giro nel mondo della casa editrice Royal Books Edizioni.
Stavolta con un contemporary che mi ha lasciata senza fiato: Mad Love di R. Holmes, uscito il 14 febbraio 2023.
Conclusa la lettura di questa storia non posso che dire: mai titolo più calzante di questo. Sapete tutti cosa significa mad love, beh, non potete che aspettarvi esattamente questo, un amore folle, totalizzante, intenso.
Questo libro mi ha spezzata, spazzato via ogni mia certezza, ogni mia speranza, esattamente come le anime dei due protagonisti che vivono un addio che li distrugge, portandosi via pezzi dei loro cuori. Quell’amore ha lasciato tracce profonde del suo passaggio, ha donato ricordi indelebili che si muovono in modo costante sotto la pelle di Ambrey e Grey. E con essi ha lasciato una sorta di senso di abbandono, di dolore.
Secondo voi si può amare troppo? Io credo si arrivi ad amare tanto, a volte fino ad annullarsi; a volte quando finisce passa senza fare danni, altre lascia una sovraimpressione sulla pelle del suo passaggio, un sapore amaro che tende a non renderti più capace di amare con la stessa intensità del passato, come se avessi dato tutto.
Questo è ciò che mi è passato per la testa mentre leggevo questo libro.
New Orleans è lo sfondo alla storia di Ambrey e Grey, una città che li ha visti crescere, diventare adulti, separarsi in modo brusco e quasi irrimediabile e poi ricongiungersi.
“Vedere il suo volto per la prima volta dopo più di otto anni è stato come uno shock fisico per il mio corpo, una vera e propria scossa di incertezza, dolore e sofferenza che mi sono tornati in mente quando l’ho guardato negli occhi.”
Rivedersi da adulti cambia tutto, ora sono persone diverse: lei una psicologa infantile; lui un uomo di successo con una bambina che proteggerebbe più della sua stessa vita
“Di tutte le cose sbagliate che ho fatto nella mia vita, lei è l’unica giusta. E ogni volta che sento la parola papà, so che ogni prova e tribolazione mi hanno portato qui.”
Grey prova una grande rabbia nei confronti di Ambrey, una rabbia mai soffocata, mai spenta negli anni passati distanti.
Sarà proprio la piccola e riportarli l’una sulla strada dell’altro: lei può aiutarla a superare le sue paure e gli incubi che non le danno tregua.
Un grande amore può soffocare negli anni? La passione, il sentimento si possono spegnere nonostante la distanza?
Questa storia è una risposta a tutto questo.
“Eravamo come due tempeste che si scontravano costantemente l’una contro l’altra, lasciandoci dietro una scia di distruzione e carneficina. Un romanzo davvero carino e scorrevole che ho finito senza nemmeno accorgermene.
Un second chance tra quelli che 8 anni prima erano dei ragazzini del liceo e che adesso sono adulti.
Con una propria vita, con un proprio passato ed una storia.
Sono e non sono più quelli che erano un tempo, quelli che erano stati.
Tra di loro si é creato un divario, un varco profondo fatto di tradimento e risentimento.
Si sentono entrambi feriti l'uno dall'altro.
Portano rancore e dolore verso l'altro.
Entrambi vanno avanti con le loro vite, realizzandosi fino a quando tutto non crolla quando si rivedono.
Per caso.
Ma questo caso porterà Ambrey nella vita di Grey in maniera costante perché sarà la nuova psicologa di sua figlia.
Grey é un padre single che mette sua figlia davanti a tutti.
E tutto.
La sua vita, da quando è uscito di prigione, é stata dedita a non far mancare nulla alla figlia e al lavoro.
E' un uomo realizzato adesso, cerca di mantenere il passato dov'è.
In un angolino nascosto, ma il vaso di pandora sta per scoppiare.
Ambrey torna in città dopo 8 anni.
Un evento tragico la riporta lì ma non sarà qualcosa di temporaneo perché inizierà a lavorare nella città dove è cresciuta, dove si é innamorata, dove le hanno spezzato il cuore e da dove é scappata.
Cresciuta in una famiglia altamente disfunzionale: il padre un giudice corrotto, che bada alle apparenze e alle immagini.
Ed una madre che non ha mai voluto fare la madre e non ha mai voluto essere una moglie.
Una prigione d'oro, ma pur sempre una prigione e non proprio d'oro.
Ambrey ha maturato un grande odio verso i suoi genitori.
Non ha affetto verso di essi, come l'hanno trattata.

Un romanzo davvero carino e scorrevole che ho finito senza nemmeno accorgermene.
Un second chance tra quelli che 8 anni prima erano dei ragazzini del liceo e che adesso sono adulti.
Con una propria vita, con un proprio passato ed una storia.
Sono e non sono più quelli che erano un tempo, quelli che erano stati.
Tra di loro si é creato un divario, un varco profondo fatto di tradimento e risentimento.
Si sentono entrambi feriti l'uno dall'altro.
Portano rancore e dolore verso l'altro.
Entrambi vanno avanti con le loro vite, realizzandosi fino a quando tutto non crolla quando si rivedono.
Per caso.
Ma questo caso porterà Ambrey nella vita di Grey in maniera costante perché sarà la nuova psicologa di sua figlia.
Grey é un padre single che mette sua figlia davanti a tutti.
E tutto.
La sua vita, da quando è uscito di prigione, é stata dedita a non far mancare nulla alla figlia e al lavoro.
E' un uomo realizzato adesso, cerca di mantenere il passato dov'è.
In un angolino nascosto, ma il vaso di pandora sta per scoppiare.
Ambrey torna in città dopo 8 anni.
Un evento tragico la riporta lì ma non sarà qualcosa di temporaneo perché inizierà a lavorare nella città dove è cresciuta, dove si é innamorata, dove le hanno spezzato il cuore e da dove é scappata.
Cresciuta in una famiglia altamente disfunzionale: il padre un giudice corrotto, che bada alle apparenze e alle immagini.
Ed una madre che non ha mai voluto fare la madre e non ha mai voluto essere una moglie.
Una prigione d'oro, ma pur sempre una prigione e non proprio d'oro.
Ambrey ha maturato un grande odio verso i suoi genitori.
Non ha affetto verso di essi, come l'hanno trattata.

Ambrey è una bellissima ragazza, dolce e altruista. Vive in una famiglia in cui si trova male, i suoi genitori pensano solo alla facciata, sono persone altolocate che vogliono si pensi hanno una famiglia perfetta, ma non c'è nulla di perfetto nella malvagità di suo padre e nel chiudere gli occhi della madre.
Molte volte Ambrey resta fuori casa per non vederli, per non vivere i loro litigi. La sua vita migliora quando Grey, un ragazzo bellissimo da mozzare il fiato, si accorge di lei. L'amore che sboccia tra i due ragazzi va oltre ogni dire, Ambrey trova conforto tra le sue braccia e Grey si sente finalmente amato.
Grey è passato da una casa famiglia ad un'altra, la sua vita non è stata per niente facile, i suoi tatuaggi raccontano molte storie. Ambrey è la sua luce, tutto quello che di buono c'è nella sua vita e la ama sopra ogni cosa. Ma il padre di lei non è d'accordo, lo ritiene un buono a nulla, uno che non merita la figlia.
"La mia luna, le mie stelle, tutto quello che c'è in mezzo."
Quando la cattiveria è allo stato puro può solo distruggere ed è quello che succede ad Ambrey e Grey.
Ma a distanza di anni, anni in cui sono stati lontani, anni in cui i loro cuori hanno sofferto, Ambrey e Grey si incontrano per caso e niente sarà più lo stesso. A separarli c'è ancora un passato che richiede risposte, riusciranno i nostri protagonisti ad aprire il loro cuore e capire finalmente cosa è successo?
Una scrittura dolce e scorrevole che ci parla dritta al cuore. Ho amato questo romanzo e oltre ad Ambrey e Grey, ho amato anche Madison e Bishop, sono troppo simpatici e spero di poter leggere anche una storia su di loro. Lo consiglio assolutamente.

Una storia d’amore intensa e tormentata perché Ambrey e Grey si sono amati da ragazzi con un sentimento puro e travolgente, ma la vita - e soprattutto le persone sbagliate - li ha separati nel modo più doloroso possibile. Quando si ritrovano anni dopo, nulla è davvero cambiato: l’amore è ancora lì, vivo e bruciante, ma è circondato da rancore, paura e silenzi mai chiariti.
Il punto di forza del romanzo è proprio l’emotività: ogni pagina è carica di nostalgia, rimpianto e desiderio. Grey è un protagonista maschile intenso, segnato dal passato ma profondamente umano, soprattutto nel suo ruolo di padre, che aggiunge una dolcezza inaspettata alla storia. Ambrey, invece, è una protagonista fragile e forte allo stesso tempo, intrappolata tra ciò che sente e ciò che le è stato imposto. Il loro rapporto è molto complesso e imperfetto, a tratti doloroso.
Tuttavia, ho fatto fatica a entrare davvero nella storia, non tanto per la trama in sé, quanto per la scrittura. L’ho trovata molto semplice, a tratti fin troppo, e questo ha reso l’intera narrazione prevedibile e poco incisiva. Le emozioni vengono spesso dichiarate più che costruite, raccontate invece di essere fatte vivere.
Anche i conflitti, pur avendo buone premesse, si risolvono in modo rapido e lineare, senza quel crescendo emotivo che rende una storia davvero memorabile. I dialoghi risultano spesso banali, con frasi già sentite e dinamiche che seguono schemi molto classici del romance, senza particolari guizzi o momenti sorprendenti.
Nel complesso ho avuto la sensazione di una storia che “scorre”, ma che non lascia davvero il segno.

Storia bellissima, scritta bene, scorrevole in questa storia vedremo due protagonisti l’uno l’opposto dell’altra, lei figlia di famiglia per bene è una studentessa modello, invece lui viene dalla parte opposta, passa da una famiglia all’altra è il playboy della scuola, tutto tatuaggi ma quando per la prima volta i loro occhi s’incontrano tutti cambia, solo che a volte l’amore non basta. 5⭐️
Mi piace molto la sua scrittura e come ha strutturato la storia e i personaggi, un libro che si divora velocemente.

Questa storia mi è piaciuta davvero tanto, lo stile dell’autrice mi ha conquistata in un crescendo di emozioni che ti strappano lacrime,sospiri e batticuori.
Ambrey e Grey sono quanto di più diverso ci possa essere.
Lei figlia di un giudice penale il cui nome risuona tra le vie di New Orleans.
Lui un ragazzo che osssa da una famiglia affidataria all’altra senza mai trovare quella che volesse davvero un figlio da amare, ma solo un assegno da incassare.
Lei studentessa modella lui il bad boy della scuola,eppure Ambrey va oltre quei tatuaggi e la faccia da schiaffi quando i loro occhi si incrociano per la prima volta.
Ed è da lui che si rifugia quando le cose in casa con i suoi genitori vanno alla deriva.
Ma l’amore a volte non basta contro le tempeste della vita e quando una di queste si abbatte all’improvviso le loro vie si dividono.
Ambrey delusa e arrabbiata con la famiglia arriva a un punto di rottura e va via di casa.
Grey invece rimane solo con la sua rabbia e il cuore spezzato credendo che Ambrey non l’abbia mai amato.

Thoughts: What I like the most about single parent trope is usually the kids, the way the are smarter than the adults always bring a smile to my face.
If you want a quick and dramatic read, this one is for you. This is 100% second chance and I'm starting to think I'm not a huge fan of this trope 🤔
But I'll give it 3.5/5 stars because the story wasn't bad itself and it was well written, I just don't think it was for me (which I'm sad because I love Boys of St. Agustine' series by this same author).
If you give this book a chance I hope you enjoy it. ✨

Mad Love was a really sweet read. It combined two of my favorite tropes, second chance with star-crossed lovers. This was my first book by R. Holmes and she definitely made a fan out of me. It is a love story about Ambrey and Grey.
They are opposites in that Ambrey's family was rich and Grey lived in foster care and was from the opposite side of the tracks but they share personal pain from familial darkness. Ambrey's father was a corrupt judge and absolutely did not want Grey in his daughter's life. He did whatever he could to keep the high school sweethearts apart. Eight years later, after life succeeded in tearing them apart, they are back in each other's life. Grey is a single dad to an amazing daughter, Emily Kate. Their relationship warmed my heart.
Ambrey and Grey are fighters that take no crap, have loving hearts and are made for each other. I loved their journey to their HEA. The side characters hold a place in my heart as well. The story was an angsty paradise for me. It kept me engaged for the most part. It was time very well spent. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

UNEXPECTED & ANGSTY REUNION WITH FIRST LOVE!
I loved Ambrey & Grey!
First of all THEIR NAMES!!!! LOVEEE!!!
Second..set in NEW ORLEANS!!! FREAKING LOVE!!!
Nola is one of my favorite places on Earth! The beauty of the people, land, and culture that I've experienced during our time living here has made Louisiana one of the best places we've ever lived!
So it being woven into this novel had me missing Nola something fierce and fondly remembering some of the places mentioned.
I loved Grey! Having so much stripped from him at a young age, he has learned to hold tightly to what he's accomplished and gained in the years since. Oh how I loved his protective streak towards her when some situations pushed him too far. He might have been broken and left bitter by their actions when they were younger but his love for her never went anywhere! The way they gravitate to each other will leave you needing a fan & swooning.
I refuse to spoil things but I will say that Ambrey's own protectiveness towards those she LOVES is just one more thing that made this book such a great read!

I loveeee a good second-chance romance trope and this one did not disappoint! I fell MADly in love with Ambrey , Grey, and of course Emily Kate.
Ambrey grew up in high society in New Orleans. Her father was a high-profile criminal judge - and a crooked, drunk, abusive one at that. Everything about their “picture perfect” family was a facade. Then Ambrey met Grey, the bad boy her father hated and she fell head over heels for. But when Grey ends up in jail, Ambrey flees and swears never to return to NOLA again.
Eight years later, Ambrey is back to deal with the aftermath of her parent’s estate after their death. She’s now a child therapist, her life goal to help children who live through what she did as a child. What she didn’t expect was to come face to face with Grey…and his adorable daughter.
Eight years may have passed, but Ambrey and Grey still yearn for each other and that flame is far from burned out. But is the past too much to overcome?
My first book by R. Holmes but it will definitely not be my last!

I LOVE this story.
And I loved it even more the second time around. When R. Holmes announced that it was being re released I couldn't wait to get my hands on the physical copy!
Of all the difficulties and challenges life throws at these two, they were fated to be together - It was right there, written in the moon, the stars, and everything in between.
Grey and Ambrey belong together and I absolutely adore Grey's daughter, Emily Kate - who is just the sweetest, sassiest little princess! I love all of the friendships and dynamics with all the side characters, and I'm pretty certain Parrain needs a book! 😉
This story is beautiful, magical, and gives all the feels.
If you love Single Dad, Childhood Sweethearts, Second Chance, and all the angst, I think you'd fall in LOVE with Mad Love.
