A young woman embarks on a dangerous journey to bring a killer to justice.
Kayla is newly-engaged and excited to break the news to her parents during a visit for winter break before her final semester at Princeton. As she enters her family’s living room, a home invader shatters her life forever, ruthlessly killing her parents and putting her in a coma.
Two years later, she still remembers nothing of the attack, just that she kissed her fiancé goodbye before opening her family’s front door. Her fiancé thinks she’s dead and has moved on.
A suspicious house fire convinces Kayla it’s time to dump her witness protection program to embark on a dangerous quest to bring the murderer to justice. She and her best friend Martin follow clues that take them from the mountains of Arizona to Washington, D.C., straight into the killer’s lair. Will Kayla succeed in her quest, or will she and Martin fall victim to the ruthless assassin who stole everything Kayla loved?

Nowhere To Hide by Karen Randau is the 1st in the Kayla Walsh Series. I am looking forward to this because I read the prequel, which did not even mention Kayla Walsh.
First, let me thank Carlyle Labuschagne, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions) Kendra and her grandmother are in witness protection after Kendra witnessed the murder of her mother and father. When she woke up from the coma that her parent's killer put her in, she discovered that her new name is Kayla Walsh (and her grandmother is now Beverley).
They are living in a home for abused women and children which her grandmother runs. She has a physiotherapist named Martin.
After two years she is finally walking again. She still remembers nothing of the attack. All she knows is that she came home for winter break before her final semester at Princeton, kissed her fiancé goodbye on her parents front porch, and couldn't wait to announce her engagement. Upon entering the living room, she saw her parents dead (or dying), and then nothing. Her fiancé thinks she’s dead too, and has moved on. Kayla, on the other hand, still has panic attacks.
When Kayla's bedroom in the home catches fire, the other residents barely escape. Martin comes to her rescue, and together they decide to follow the leads and discover why someone is trying to kill her.
My Opinions: As in the prequel, this is another short and entertaining read. I was a little disappointed when I discovered that these books were more one long story than individual mystery stories. However, I have also discovered that this is the first in a trilogy, so I'm okay with that, especially since it is really good. I must say that I am really interested in Kayla's quest to find out who killed her parents and who is now trying to kill her.
The book is fast-paced, and really keeps moving from one adventure to the next. I love the characters, although there is one that I still do not trust.
For such a short book, there was a lot of information provided, and the writing is very good.
It is a really captivating read, and I can't wait to read the next one!

Nowhere to Hide is a wild ride of conspiracy theories and murder. This novella is... intense. I felt like there was no slowing down for our heroine, and I couldn't stop until I saw just how this would end. Of course, it's a series so I didn't see the end end. But it definitely left me with the desire to continue.
There are quite a few moments where you have to suspend your disbelief. I did stop to consider how seriously I was meant to take it after the incident with the cabin. But then I gave it the Dan Brown chance and enjoyed it for the crazy ride it's meant to be.
I'd say the hardest part with this was that there was so much going on and so much information being thrown, that at times I felt overwhelmed. Fast-paced is good, but not if you're leaving the readers in the dust. We'd rather be along for the ride and there are some parts where I felt I was left behind.
Overall, though, it was enjoyable, and I have the desire to catch up and see what the mystery behind Kayla Walsh is.
I received a free copy of this book via Hidden Gems Books and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I rate this book 3.5 stars. I chose this title as I needed a quick read, and was attracted by the cover and book description .The premise of the plot is engaging – Kayla the protagonist surprises intruders leaving her parents' home after a horrific attack, without an obvious motive. I was plunged into the action immediately as Kayla wakes from a coma following the shock and tries to adjust to her altered circumstances. As she begins to remember small details of the dreadful event she realises that something quite sinister is going on and becomes involved in a tense search for the truth. There's plenty of action in this novella but in places I thought some scenes needed expanding because they were over too quickly, which is a shame as the plot itself is solid. I was disappointed when the book ended without the 'mystery' being resolved – presumably it continues in book 2, although that is not obvious from the book description or the note at the end of the story. When I chose the book I got the impression this was the first in a stand alone mystery in a series featuring the same protagonist. This was close to being a 4 star read with pace and plenty of clues to keep the reader going, but I felt a little cheated by the ending. One rather nice takeaway for me was that Kayla was urged to name three things she was grateful for at any difficult moment when she felt overwhelm or despair. It's certainly a good strategy for anyone to remember in a really bad situation. If you're looking for a short, pacey mystery to read, this book could be worth your time. I received a free review copy of the book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I was granted complimentary access to Nowhere to Hide by Karen Randau as part of my participation in a blog tour for this title with Siler Dagger Book Tours. Thank you to all involved in affording me this opportunity! My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.
Kayla's life was coming up roses until a home invasion ended in the murder of her parents and a year-long coma for her. A year after waking up, now somewhat recovered, Kayla's life is about to get a whole lot more interesting once again. The home she and her grandmother live in is set on fire, her former physiotherapist shows up out of the woodwork, and suddenly it's time to run off on a life-or-death adventure figuring out what started off this whole mess and why her parents were targeted to begin with.
This book is short but it has all the action and entertainment of a much longer novel condensed down to its essence and blasted back out at breakneck speed. It's fun, it's fast, and it keeps you on your toes! It feels like Mission Impossible or the Jason Bourne books, but our protagonist is a 20-something young woman from this decade, and it rocks.
I devoured this book in an evening and was so excited to jump straight into book two. Thank goodness I signed on to review the whole trilogy!
Nowhere to Hide is the exciting first novella in the Kayla Walsh Mystery Suspense Trilogy by Karen Randau. In this first part, Kayla is excited to come home to visit her parents and walks right into a home invasion. She is so shocked by what she sees, that even though her Dad manages to tell her to run, she freezes just long enough to miss her opportunity to escape. One of the supposed intruders grabs her and throws her through a window. A year later, she awakens from a coma, thinking she is being attacked.
Nowhere to hide was a quick easy read. The mystery and suspense were compelling enough that had I the time I would have read from start to finish. I had to stop about half way through but finished it the next time I was able to pick it up. As the story continued I was reading faster and nearly biting my nails off. Fair warning: this ends in a cliff hanger so do yourself a favor and buy the complete trilogy now so you can continue the story without delay. I am not a big fan of cliff hangers but if the story intrigues me and I am forewarned I don't mind them. I will be grabbing copies of the rest of the trilogy so I can see how this whole thing ends.
I was fortunate enough to get an ARC of this one and am leaving this review voluntarily.
First time author for me, I received the book through HIdden Gems and voluntarily leave this review. I am confused, but I a clear headed. The premise grabbed me from the get go. I love suspense and I love a strong female protagonist. Kayla definitely checks that box. She finds her parents murdered, shes thrown threw a window and awakes in a coma. Michael has been her physical therapist and confesses how he came to be and leaves, but in ends up hooking up with Kayla to try and determine who murdered her parents. When there is physical altercations she has snip its of memory. This is non stop running. Trying to decipher clues, that are few and far between and not enough depth for you to grab onto. I am betwixt and between on this. I would read book two because I want to see what happens. This is a trilogy, a cliff hanger so it stands to reason book 2 would be a cliff hanger. Some of this seemed obvious me as to who not to trust, and that in itself makes me question whether its an obvious red herring. It makes you wonder. Am I foolishly following the trail, is this going to twist and turn some more?
In this fast-paced story, Kayla Walsh vows to find her parents’ killers—who also put her in a long-term coma. When she wakes up, she struggles to rebuild her body and mind so she can begin her quest. Her recovery takes place at a domestic violence shelter where she and her grandmother live with false names under Witness Protection. At the shelter, she bonds with her physical therapist, Martin, who rescues her when arson damages the home. Kayla flees with Martin, and they try every means to avoid discovery by the mysterious villains out to get them. Through their many tense adventures, they become closer. They search for answers to their dilemma everywhere from high school libraries to the Lincoln Memorial.
This story will appeal to readers who like to watch an embattled heroine struggle to achieve her quest. Kayla has to face the killing of her parents and the tension of being sought by unknown assassins. Her many trials move the plot along at a breakneck speed.
This novella is exciting, suspenseful and a real mystery to solve.
Kayla is trying to figure out what got her parents killed, and put her in a coma and the witness protection program. Or is she really?
Should she be trusting the people she is trusting? Even her grandmother and grandmother's beau? Who exactly are the people that claimed to be working for her recovery really working for?
What do certain symbols mean and what were her parents involved in?
Kayla is on the run and looking for answers. People are following and who should she trust?
My only complaint is it ended leaving you hanging in the middle of something really good. But that makes it suspenseful and wanting more too.
A good page turner read. I recommend. It won't disappoint.
I received an advanced review copy free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is a new-to-me author, and I enjoyed the storyline. Action, suspense, intrigue, and more. Kayla seems to be fighting for her life and doesn’t know why. There seem to be those who are trying to kill or harm her, and others who seem to be trying to help her. There are memories from long ago and memories from the incident that put her in a coma. Nothing makes sense. Who can she trust? She just doesn’t know. One thing she does know is, that with the help of her physical therapist/friend, Martin, she will track down whoever it was that killed her parents and changed her life forever. It’s not going to be easy when the killer(s) know you’re coming.
I’m not pleased with the cliffhanger, especially since nothing gets resolved at all in the first book.

Kayla's life was good until her parents were murdered in a home invasion that left her in a coma for a year. After coming out of her coma, she spent a year recouping her strength and trying to remember what happen. Seemingly out of nowhere, someone sits fire to her bedroom with her in it. She is saved by Martin, her ex-physical therapist. Together Martin and Kayla set out to find out why someone is after her. They embark on a cross country trip from Arizona to Washington, DC.
The book does end in a cliffhanger. I like Kayla. As she tries to unravel her past, she starts following her instincts which causes her to realize that her parents and grandparents had set her up with clues to the mystery involving her and her parents' death. She is still a little too trusting to not to know who to trust.
Nowhere To Hide is the 1st book in the Kayla Walsh Mystery Suspense Trilogy by Karen Randau. Kayla comes home from school to visit her parents only to find them being murdered by a masked man. She ends up being thrown through a window and is in a coma for a year before she wakes up. She’s been in witness protection with her Nana and a few caretakers. As she tries to figure out who killed her parents, she discovers she is still being perused by the murders. She is forced to go on the run with her physical therapist. This is a fast-paced, nail-biting thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Make sure you have the trilogy as this ends in a cliffhanger so you will need to continue with book 2 No One to Trust. There is a prequel, Hidden No More, that will fill in a lot of the blanks for you. I advise reading it first.
That night, she witnessed her parents’ murder. One year later, she wakes up from a coma with a new identity—Kayla Walsh. They keep telling her it would be better if she didn’t remember the attack. But how could she hide in witness protection when there was a murderer to find?
It seems, however, that they were still out to get her.
The narrative is simple and easy to read, but it’s rather slow to progress. Sure, there was some excitement with the fire and the escape into the woods, but then it sort of levels off from there. Then we backtrack to several years before, reliving Kayla’s childhood. It takes a long time to find out anything.
This is a fairly nice read with some nice descriptions, but it just wasn’t fast enough or exciting enough for me.
The first novella in the trilogy, Nowhere to Hide packs a punch. Kayla arrives home to see her parents’ murder and ends up in a coma. Now in witness protection program with her grandmother, she finally awakens to her new life and no memories of the events which led her to this point. Kayla is not out for the count though. She wants her memories back, and she wants to find the people responsible for killing her parents. Witness protection or not, it looks like Kayla may have been found first. This book has it all: suspense, mystery, murder and mayhem, conspiracy theories, and secret societies. Be warned, this fast-paced read does leave quite the cliffhanger. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This story is like “Mission Impossible” meets “Love Story” (yes, I’m old). Kayla is trying to find out who is responsible for the two-year-old murder of her parents. A lot of stuff happens. Kayla starts having feelings for Martin, who at one time was her physical therapist. Too much time was spent on this. I would have preferred more details about who or what was responsible for the murder. There was some background, but not enough. I might read the next entry in this series to see if the story becomes more focused. I received an advance review copy for free from BookSirens, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this novella and it was good! Kept my interest and was a quick moving story. That cliff hanger though! It definitely made you feel the need to finish the story and read book 2. Which I did, I instantly wanted book 2.
I feel like it was missing details in some scenes but I will continue to read the series! It could have been more descriptive but that could also hinder the ability to be a novella.
Kayla Walsh has just awakened from a two year coma to find out that her parents were murdered at the same time. While she has no memory of what happened, people are trying to kill her for a secret she knows nothing about. On the run with Martin, her former physical therapist, Kayla is determined to find out the truth, if she can stay alive. I loved this action packed story that kept me reading until that jaw dropping cliff hanger. I can't wait to read Book 2 in this trilogy. I would highly recommend it. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Kayla Walsh comes for the holidays with her parents and finds herself walking in on the murder of her parents. She is caught and thrown through the front window by one of the killers. The next thing she knows is waking up in a hospital from a year in a coma. And that is just the beginning as she starts trying to regain her memory as well as be able to get her body to follow her commands. The more she recovers, the more she is in danger from whoever killed her parents. Fast moving and sure to keep your interest!!
How do you survive, when there's nowhere to hide? On waking from a trauma-induced coma, this is the question that Kayla Walsh is faced with. But before she can even begin to find those answers, she needs to piece together her memories of that fateful night.
Randau has a masterful way of weaving intrigue and suspense while still triggering the reader's empathy. Her characters are like the neighbours, you care about them - even when they infuriate you with their single-mindedness. Nowhere To Hide is a page-turner, you won't be able to put it down! But you will love every minute of it!
Is it wrong that Nowhere to Hide left me feeling angry at the author for leaving me hanging? This novella left me wanting more and more. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I am so glad that this is first in the series. The main character, Kayla, faces ultimate tragedy and must learn to survive and trust again. It is fast-paced and suspenseful. I couldn’t put it down as I needed to know the outcome. Now, I need to get the 2nd in the series. If you like thrills and suspense, you NEED to read this book!
I loved everything about Karen Randau's new trilogy and while this is my first book of hers, it will not be my last. This book had my attention when I read the synopsis and I was intrigued. Suspense + a strong female protagonist had me engaged from start to finish, I literally could not stop reading because I had to know what happened.
It was eerie how plausible this story is given our current times and did not see the cliffhanger ending coming. I highly recommend this and can't wait for book 2.

If you’re looking for a mystery, a thriller, and a suspenseful story, here you go. The main character is well written and the author throws in some suspense to keep the reader invested in the story. I am looking forward to reading anything else from this author. I am hoping this will become a series.

What a great suspense novella! It was a fast paced mystery suspense and as a novella it is one I just didn’t want to put down, you could seriously finish this gem in a single night! I cannot wait to dive into book 2 and continue Kayla and Martin’s adventure!
I am voluntarily leaving this review after receiving a complimentary copy
The book was well written but left me a bit confused. Their were so many twists and turns and no real clues to what is actually going on. Since the book ended on a cliffhanger you have to read the next book to get some answers.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This story held my attention from the get go .Had to keep reading to see where it led too. Well developed characters to root for. Looking forward to the next entry in this trilogy. I recieved an E-ARC from the author per my reguest
Starts with action and doesn't slow down. Strong characters, well written, a lot going on. Can't wait to see where it goes next. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
An intriguing mystery with a tense, driven plot, the story hooks from the beginning and draws you steadily through the book. It's a great first book in the series, well written with engaging characters.
Their aliases were compromised??? Who would do that??? My stomach could never survive what Kayla survives!!! I enjoyed the story and recommend the book.
I knew that this book was the first in a series but I didn't realise that the story would end on a cliff hanger! In places I wasn't too sure what was going on and who certain people were and how they fit into the story, but eventually it started to make sense. The story was slow in some parts and fast in other, I want to know what will happen next so I will be looking out for book two. I am voluntarily leaving this review after receiving an ARC from Hidden Gems.
Kayla and Martin have become my friends. In a coma since her parents were murdered, Kayla and her grandmother were placed in witness protection. Kayla is now awake and recovered. And running from strangers who want information she does not remember. Or know. Martin, a former physical therapist of Kayla’s, is running with and protecting her. With no backup, few trusted people, and no idea why she is being chased, Kayla must follow hunches and dim memories. This book is the first in a trilogy and moves quickly. Nails bitten, fingers crossed, I am waiting for the second book.
