For almost four decades, Rhys Le Noireau has been a man out of place, trying to fit together the jigsaw pieces of his life. When his mother Astral, is injured and hospitalized in a coma, Rhys, a single successful architect, is tasked with cleaning out her home and setting her affairs in order.
What he finds when he unlocks an ancient family Bible hidden among his mother's treasured possessions, a Deed, Birth certificates, old weathered photographs, and notes on snippets of parched paper, opens the portal to a life lived in another time and place.
A place that fits his soul and forces him to do the unthinkable, return to Scotland Bay.
I loved the cover and am glad I stayed to read this book, it was a beautifully done romance with interesting characters. I liked that it took place in a area that doesn't usually get written about.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The first book in the Scotland Bay the Return series a good story that held my interest until the end. The story does end on a cliff-hanger. This is a new Author to me. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A concoction of history intrigue and family conflict with infusion of romance.
I couldn't put the book down figuratively, thankfully when you opened back the book it opened to right where you left off. The imagery transported me back to the 1940s, smoothly bringing me back to present day. The vivid descriptions the interactions amongst the characters invoked feelings of anger at the antagonist . It was so real . You could feel the tension, the passion between the lovers. An excellent read. Can't wait for the next book
I'm conflicted about this book. It has a very intriguing and captivating storyline, but the writing leaves a lot to be desired. It also ends with a cliffhanger. Rhys is a momma's boy, which he readily admits, who has dropped everything to be with his mother while she is in the hospital suffering from a brain bleed. Annalise, his mother's personal assistant, is the one keeping him together, especially after his sister shows up. Renee comes storming into town looking for her inheritance, and for control of her mother and her mother's estate. She's livid that Rhys has power of attorney. There's an attraction between Rhys and Annalise, an attraction Rhys is reluctant to give in to, although he thinks that it is inevitable. The harder Renee pushes for control, the more determined Rhys gets to freeze her out. But he doesn't know the secret she does, the one she's been looking for information on for years. Rhys is a kind, considerate and nice guy, while Renee is a stuck up, spoiled, ticked off and b**ch of a woman. Annalise is loyal, caring and strong. I really got into the storyline, waiting for the next twist in the plot, but there is a lot of filler that doesn't need to be in the story that undermines what a great story this could be. It's good enough that if you don't like being left hanging at the end of a book, you should plan on binge reading it. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
This is the first book I've read by this author, but it won't be the last! She did a great job of imparting some of the history of Trinidad through her use of a dual timeline and even though historical fiction isn't a favorite of mine, the part that took place in the 1940's held my interest as much as the present day part of the book.
The descriptions were lush and vivid, the characters jumped off the page, and the story quickly pulled me in and left me wanting more. I know very little about Trinidad so this was not only a pleasure read, but one that gave me a lot of information I hadn't been aware of.
If you haven't met the author yet via her books, you'll want to remedy that right away. Pick up this book and prepare to indulge in a feast for the senses!
This novel, the first in a six-book series, is a unique dual-timeline read straddling the story worlds of Trinidad 1941 and present-day Washington DC and London.
Rhys Le Noireau is called to the hospital when his other Astral is found unconscious in her home in Washington DC by her assistant Annalise Roche.
It is March 29th, 1981, forty years after Astral's home village of Scotland Bay in Trinidad was evacuated to make way for an American Naval Air Station. But Rhys doesn't know any of that.
Across the pond in London, his twin sister Renee battling her own demons is told of her mother's illness. She flies to Washington DC armed to challenge Rhys, his Power-of-Attorney and the life-altering decisions he has made that affect her mother's estate.
All of their plans go awry when Rhys and Annalise open a hidden family bible, revealing heirlooms', a road map to unraveling the secrets of a Le Noireau family overrun by wealth and tragedy.
The level of intimacy with the historical data, the realism and interplay between the characters all combine to make this book a very delightful read. Even if this genre isn’t your cup of tea… trust me it’s still worth a read.
Cecly Ann Mitchell The Legacy: Scotland Bay the Return
This is a well written book with a wonderful descriptive language. I love the storyline and enjoyed reading it. I was disappointed that it is a cereal and leaves you with a cliffhanger.
Interesting feel of the Caribbean and Trinidad in the past...
Love reading this. Felt as if I was back in the Caribbean island and then in the corridors of the foreign hospital. Want to read the rest of books in the series!
This is a first part of a series and is set mostly in Trinidad. Historic wartime events ripple through to the present day and a large inheritance is set to upturn the worlds of Astral's children. Not my usual genre but I was 100% drawn into the world and characters. Definitely want to get onto the next book in the series. Recommended 🙂
