Or at least take some seriously bad guys down. But with a chip on her shoulder and betrayal in her past, she might be her own worst enemy.
Fresh from military life, she’s haunted by the loss of her hero father who she looked up to all her life, and is still sore from the treachery of her mentor who stabbed her in the back when she first joined the FBI.
Now Emily must put it all on the line to go undercover as an assassin to infiltrate The Outfit, a notorious international crime syndicate that has eluded law enforcement around the world.
But in this game, her targets are as likely to be law enforcement as rival criminals. Does Emily have what it takes to work her way up into the innermost circle and reveal who the big bosses are? Or will her conscience betray her too?

A simple kill by Nolan King. Emily Wyatt wants to save the world. A slow starter but then I started to enjoy it. Emily was my favourite. Simone grew on me. I do hope there is more of Emily. 4*.
Emily is a trained sharp shooter for the army who wants to follow in her dead fathers footsteps. Simone is responsible for nearly sabotaging Emily’s career. When the two are paired on a covert mission, there is an issue of whether they can trust each other.
I had real trouble getting into this book. There is so much whining and bickering in the beginning between the two main characters. It’s unbelievable that two military trained women would behave this way. Then they are sent on a mission together to capture the Foreman. The ending was predictable to me. Not my favorite Nolon King book.

The blurb is much better than the actual story. I thought I was going to read a book based loosely in reality. Instead, what I read wasn't even close to reality. The main female lead is weak and wishy washy to the point of irritating. Moreover there is no depth to the characters nor do their actions elicit any empathy or emotions from the reader. It all just falls flat. The editing is not the cleanest in addition to many typos. I finished this book because I had to see if the ending was as simple as I predicted; it was.
1.5 Emily didn’t change. She continued to whine and worship her father the whole book and couldn’t make a logical decision or put the obvious together if it was placed right in front of her. Then she does something completely left field for her character that doesn’t make sense. The story would have been better if Emily wasn’t in it and it was fleshed out more in the middle. The beginning and end were the only portions that read like a story while the other 90% felt like big pieces were missing. It would have done better with 3-4 more drafts
This page-turner keeps the reader on edge throughout the entire story. The characters are cleanly defined and the storyline is, for the most part, easy to understand and follow. The main character, Emily, and her partner Simone are believable. If I had any concerns about the novel it would be the abruptness of the conclusion. I look forward to additional stories with Emily Wyatt. I received an ARC and this is my honest assessment if this novel.
This Nolon King's book is not his best or his usual style of writing. Emily was all over the place and weak as the main character of the story. The ending was predictable. I expected a lot more from Nolon King. There was a lack of high mystery and strong leading character.
Thank you to Sterling & Stone and NetGalley for letting me read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Emily has a chip on her shoulder when she was she faced false charges that almost earned her a dishonorable discharge from the service. She was hired to work under Simone, the person who brought false charges against her. The story reminded me of a spoiled child whining when things didn’t go their way.
A Simple Kill is not an easy story to read, all characters are searching for something, all are deceiving the others, everyone is lying and nobody can be trusted. It's also difficult to find the main plot reliable and in the end, the reader finds out that it was just a game of the good winning against the bad. Certainly, it's not Nolon King at his best. I read A Simple Kill and although I finished it I did skim through a bit of it, sorry, Nolon King. it was very slow in the beginning and it didn't pick up until the last few chapters. This is the first book I've read from this author and I'm hoping that it's just this book that I don't click with and not her ones.
