Ayvre, Grayson, and their comrades have fled the Emerald, but it's only the beginning. King Marro has sent his infamous Raptors after them, and everyone knows how that ends, but Ayvre is determined to keep Song safe at all costs. On the horizon is the coming of winter and with its harshness comes immeasurable perils, betrayal, and a family secret that shakes Ayvre's very existence. Not to mention Cabal, Grayson's brother in arms, has gone missing and the worry over him weighs on everyone. That's not even the worst of it though. Song may not be the only one who has manifested powers from the injections. Ayvre has felt something unexplainable coursing in her veins too, and it's getting harder to keep it contained.
This is the second novel that I have read by TL Thorne. I read the first book in the series Dark Emerald and while both novels could stand alone I recommend reading in order to feel the full breath of essence that this author is presenting. I am very impressed with this author writing. I find her to be talented and gifted. She has built a world that focuses on the creation of a world founded on cruelty by humans towards magic and magical creatures. In first novel Ayvre, Grayson, and others were imprisoned and tortured. They believe to attempt their bodies to manifest magical powers. In book two they are all on the run. The King has set the Raptures to find them. Their escape is complicated by the harsh winter and what appears that Song may be manifesting magical powers. Ayre feels something unexplainable coursing in her veins too, and it's getting harder to keep it contained. Their bodies are changing will their magical be a salvation for them or make their lives more difficult? . I gave this honest, voluntary review after being given a free copy of the novel.
I am really enjoying the series. You feel the characters' heartbreak and joy. You want them to overcome everything and win. The strain between Grayson and Avrye was sad but understandable. You feel their confusion as to whether their feelings are their own or because of the bond. You can understand the hatred as they are forced to deal with each other. The story flowed well with great characters and the concept is well thought out. I can't wait for the next one! I hope it comes out soon as I need to know what happens!

The two books read in succession were exciting in challenges and heroism. For now the good won, but this cannot be the end. There are too many questions. Ayevre and Grayson's story is not complete. I shudder at the power struggle between good and evil. The end chapter led to believe it could go either way. I could not put these stories down. I had to know. Maybe there will be a third?
