Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and this time there’s no keeping the flames under wraps.
After ending a passionate affair, Shelby Zurlo thinks she has it all—a career built on brains and not beauty and the independence she craves. But her graphic design business is struggling, and her solo status in a world made for couples leaves her lonely. When a client asks a favor—a favor she can’t refuse—Shelby runs headfirst into her biggest mistake and her biggest regret.
Nick Chamberlain is living the dream. He’s got a successful business venture, a strong and supportive family, and a social life most guys would envy. If only he could move on from the woman who shattered his heart and never looked back.
When a chance meeting forces Shelby and Nick to interact, sparks fly and tempers flare. Nick is determined to win Shelby back; Shelby is just as committed to keeping Nick in the friend zone. In a battle of wits, will stubborn hearts bend and sway, or snap in the headwinds of love?

To be precise, it is 2.5 ⭐
"This isn't the eighteen hundreds. You don't need to come with a dowry. You only need to love him back"
If you ended a relationship and you're trying to move on from it, seeing your ex in one of your most unprepared moments can make you feel like shit. That is what Shelby felt. But trust Nick to feel otherwise and try to win her back with his best effort, the second time round.
To me, I liked that this book felt like a book of second chances. A book that covered whatever that was missed earlier. It brings out the ugly sides of two individuals just so that it can become beautiful together. It showed two people trying to be better for one another.
However, I feel like it has way too brief at the end and there was too many interactions with the people around them. It felt too rushed for me.
But nevertheless, a fast and light read and I liked having a less intense romance to read.

1.5 stars
So, this book just really wasn't for me. It was filled with strange overwrought descriptions, which felt super cringe, like "his voice sounded like caramel coated with steel". The narrative didn’t flow at all, and felt quite forced throughout.
On top of that, I just didn't really like either of the MCs. Shelby seemed completely defined by her inability to commit and there were just so many situations engineered for the sole purpose of expressing *how beautiful* she is and how she’s *exotic* because she’s part Italian. I feel like Nick was meant to be sweet but instead came across kind of toxic - he wouldn’t just listen to her and acted so condescending. What's with the hate of modelling and it not being a proper profession? Between them, there was too much drama for the sake of drama, and I felt like there was a lack of chemistry between our MCs - I just wasn’t rooting for them.
Also, there were far too many side characters that didn’t end up relevant to the plot in any way!
Overall, a nice quick read, nothing more. It’s sad that I wasn’t even rooting for them to get together.
I seem to be in the minority here with my low rating, but I will admit I knocked off a whole star for this one phrase: “Shelby could have sworn she felt her ovaries pucker.” WHAT? I thought we were past these ridiculous descriptions of women’s body parts??
Also, Shelby as a character is really meh. I can appreciate Nick because we get more background about why he was so crushed etc etc but Shelby just has trauma oOoOo because she can’t commit to anyone.
I was also very annoyed by the lack of actual chemistry between the two. All we get is “oh he’s hot” and that’s it? and the rest of their relationship is orchestrated by their meddling friends and family!!
and don’t even get me STARTED on the whole “mad about modeling” thing. Go women!!! If she wants to make money because she’s hot and she knows it, what’s wrong with that? Oh he’s jEaLOus because other MEN are looking??? well then don’t date her!! just date someone else!!!

I loved being able to return to the Kiss and Tell series! The Chamberlain brothers have won me over with their individual stories and this one was no different with Nick's story. I also liked returning to Emily and her roommates to see how their lives have continued since college. Christy Hayes writes characters that are relatable and it is like the reader is hanging with their best friends. Shelby was always a mystery and I enjoyed getting to know her story and backstory more. The setting was so immersive that I felt like I was driving down the streets of Atlanta throughout this story. This story was so heartwarming and a perfect continuation. I would love to continue reading about these characters as they navigate their next phases of life.
Thank you to Christy Hayes and Kate Rock Book Tours for an advanced copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own!
Ever have those books that just help you escape from reality for a bit?
We were on day 11 of hockey tryouts when I read this one and the anxiety of this mama bear was through the roof. I plowed through three books in two days and I looked for either thrillers or rom-coms - things that would help completely ease the mind and put me in a different place. This definitely hit the spot.
This is Book 6 of the Kiss & Tell series…and despite not reading any of the first five, what I loved:
-The depth of feelings -The overarching characters - which makes me want to pick up the other books! -That is was a clean romance - a fun departure -You genuinely root for the love story
Hayes is a great storyteller and can pull a series together well!
Thank you Netgalley, Xpresso Book Tours, and Christy Hayes for the opportunity to read this book as an ARC!
To be honest, I am not sure where to start with this book. I was genuinely shocked at how much I disliked it. Some parts of it just rubbed me the wrong way, specifically certain lines written such as "That's so gay," as a response to the idea of a couples baby shower (I thought we were past using sexuality as insults?). The setting of the story is in Georgia mainly, so I was expecting to see quite a bit of diversity. Boy, was I wrong. From what I read and understood, every character was white. The only time skin was described as dark was when Shelby came back from Florida (for a weekend). Another aspect of this novel was how it portrayed masculinity and femininity. You know how Sarah J Maas uses the word 'mate' in every other sentence? That's how I felt in this book, but with the word 'masculine'. Not only were different styles of rooms described like this, but so was every action Nick did ('That's so masculine of him' type beat). There was no buildup or chemistry between Shelby and Nick in this novel, and it felt flat and it hurts that I wasn't even rooting for them to be together.
Nick Chamberlain was borderline stalkerish. Genuinely, I felt uncomfortable for most of his beginning scenes with Shelby. Also, him pursuing her when she clearly didn't want it was so frustrating because her friends and his friends were egging him on. ALSO, every character in this book thought Nick was 'different' because he never commented on Shelby's 'hotness'. DUH. The amount of sexualization of the woman's body was jaw-dropping, and when we were in Nick's POV, I absolutely HATED the way he talked to his friends and how his friends talked. It was like every conversation HAD to have some sort of reference to sex or someone's ass. I felt like I was reading a prepubescent teenager's conversation, not a 25-year-old's with his older brothers. WTF. We didn't need to focus on Shelby's appearance so much and making it such a big theme in this book.
I didn't feel like this book passed the Bechdel Test in any regard. Everything was about a man. Or sex. And there was no smut. Nick and Shelby's whole relationship felt based on physical attraction and tension, there were no deeper conversations shown to us and there were surface-level dehumanizing comments made about women. In addition, the theme of possession in this novel is so incredibly abundant, and it made me extremely uncomfortable watching Shelby need Nick's validation the further their relationship got. To Nick, he felt like Shelby belonged to him, and this was so frustrating that it made me want to throw my phone. Don't even get me started on the micromanagement of her modeling. I also thought we were past slut-shaming models and degrading a respectable profession. This was such an annoying plot point with Nick being all huffy-puffy about her modeling because it, and I quote, "puts herself on display for others." Like. WHAT. She's getting paid a ton of money and it was her choice. It will always be her choice. He had no right to act like he was getting killed over it. God, grow up.
Overall, I believe the flaws in this book were just too overwhelming for me to enjoy even the good parts about it (which include the sisterhood of Shelby and her roommates), and I don't believe I will be picking up another book from this series or author in the near future.
Have you read any of Christy Hayes’s books?💕 I was so excited to read the latest book in the Kiss and Tell series by @christyhayesauthor. I’ve read several of her other books and I love that they can be read as standalone books too! I truly enjoyed watching the relationship between Shelby and Nick unfold. They unexpectedly started a relationship after hooking up at Nick’s brother’s wedding, but Shelby panicked and quickly called things off. I adored the quirky misunderstanding that Christy Hayes set up as their post break up run in. I love that this was quick and light read but kept my attention, I am already looking forward to the next book! Fancy Meeting You Here published on 10/12 and is available to buy on our Amazon Storefront! Thank you @katerockbooktours for this gifted copy!🧜🏼♀️🌺
This is the sixth book in the Kiss and tell series but can also be read as a stand-alone. I have not read the other books in the series.. but after reading this I can’t wait to start from the beginning of the series.
I loved seeing the relationship between Nick and Shelby play out. After a hookup at Nick’s brothers wedding they start up a relationship. With Shelby having commitment issues she of course panics and ends the relationship. When they unexpectedly run into each other they find that they are still head over heels for each other. Which leads to Nick scheming to get Shelby back.
I really love Shelby and Nick as a couple. And found myself continuously rooting for them. I mean who doesn’t love when a hook up turns into love? This book was a really quick, fun read and is a clean romance. Now I am off to binge the rest of the series.
QOTD: Is there a series that you have read the books out of order?
This is available now!
Thank you Prism Book Tours and Christy Hayes for my copy of Fancy Meeting you here!
I receive this for honest review. Thank you so much!
This is my third time reading from this author and it was a other wonderful amazing read. What a great read. This novel had everything in it. This had me all over the place. My heart beating so fast! I couldn't believe what I was reading. If had me in shock. Every page was a page turner. I couldn't believe my eyes what I was reading. I highly recommend everybody get this book and read it. It will surprise you in every way. 4 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The storyline was very good! The theme and setting was well put together. The characters was well put together in the story. Was so well put in the story. Everything all in one book. It was just perfect.
This was so good! Going into this, I didn't know this was part of a series but thank god it can be read as a standalone. (I might have to read the other books in the series?)
Characters
I love Nick. He was so sweet and I really enjoyed reading his POV. Shelby was an okay female lead, at times she was kind of annoying. But the conversation she has with Nick's dad sort of makes up for her constant fear of commitment.
"This isn't the eighteen hundreds. You don't need to come with a dowry. You only need to love him back."
Romance
Super cute. The guy being more in love with the girl is always finger-lickin-good. I loved the hate to love vibe in the beginning. I could feel their love through the pages and I love them together. So cute. I wish that there had been a liiiitle more smut (lol).
Plot
I love some second chance romances. Especially with the sort of hatred at the beginning. Loved. It. That first scene in the bridal store really set this up to be amazing for me.
Ending
It was so cute and the epilogue was close to perfection. I couldn't have asked for a better ending.
"I'm getting ideas."
*silent screaming*
Modeling
I didn't really care for the modeling aspect of this, I just felt like it wasn't explained why she had a bad experience beforehand.
Overall, almost perfection but OMG I really enjoyed this.
This ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Fancy meeting you here by Christy Hayes, was a great read and kept me turning pages! It is a romance book between a man and a woman who have a past. Nick is a perfect example of a guy any woman could fall in love with. (Including readers) I finished the book in one night and enjoyed all the twists and turns throughout the book. Throughout the book Shelby is easily my favorite character because of her stubborn attitude and determination to be independent. Nick is also a likable character due to his perseverance in pursuing Shelby. Overall, I believe this book deserves a rating of 4 stars and I really enjoyed reading it! I received a complimentary copy from Prism Book Tours.
I loved Shelby and Nick’s story! The epilogue was also the perfect ending to the Kiss and Tell series. Nick and Shelby seem like two opposites but Nick is determined to make it work. Shelby on the other hand is determined for it not to work. I loved the banter between the Chamberlain brothers as well! The pacing was a bit slow at times, but overall I really enjoyed it!
This is book 6 of the series. I have read books 1-3 that deal with the Chamberlain family too (books 4 & 5 I haven't read yet but deal with roommates of Emily from book 1)
This book is about Nick, the youngest Chamberlain boy. He hooked up with a girl at his brother's wedding and kept an affair up for awhile until it fell apart.... Though he kept it a secret from his family and friends.
Shelby is making her living as a graphic designer. After she ends the affair with Nick... She runs into him in an unexpected place... While she's forced to model a wedding gown for a photo shoot and Nick walks in.
They both realize through time that they still are fallen head over heels for each other. When Nick schemes to get her back, he's more respectful this time around.
They are such a sweet couple. I love a hook up that turns into something real. I just love Nick's dad and what he tells Shelby.... He's such a sweet dude and knows what she needs to hear to fully give Nick her heart
This book was utterly adorable and readable in a day. If you haven't read books 1-3 though you might feel a bit lost as there's a lot of history from those books in this one.
What will you do when you accidentally meet your Ex?? Well I don’t know what I’ll do but what Shelby and Nick do after bumping into each other accidentally is the fun to read. It’s a simple and easy read but the course of actions and interactions are fun to read.
Shelby is graphic designer who has to work very hard in order to meet the bills. She has a troubled childhood with an absent father and a mean mother. She’s afraid of commitments and runs a mile away from it, which was the basic reason for her and Nick to break up in the first place. But when love is magical you cannot deny the butterflies in your stomach. The journey is impeccable and is natural.
I have not read other books in the series but what I understand is that it can be read as standalone. Relating to every character was pretty easy and each character is so fun loving and supportive. The Chamberlain family is so full of values and is perfect in most of the ways. The Epilogue was just marvellous and that ending made me happy.
This was my first book by Ms Hayes and I had really nice time reading it. The plot was great and had such fun moments, it kept me intrigued and anxious to see what happened next. The characters were well-developed and endearing, with relatable and realistic qualities and you can't help but fall in love with them. I really got drawn into Shelby and Nick's story and couldn't wait to see how it ended. It was a charming and entertaining read and I enjoyed it all the way through. Wonderful characters and an engaging storyline will keep you captivated till the end. This is a lovely, quick and light story and am happy to to have had the opportunity to read it. I am hoping to read more by this author in the future.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
The 6th story in the Kiss and Tell series, we finally get to see how the youngest Chamberlain brother deals with being head over heels in love!
If you'd told me at the start of this series that Nick's one true love would turn out to be Shelby, I would never have believed you. That said, their connection was palpable on the page, right from the opening chapters. I love a bit of miscommunication, so their initial moments in the bridal boutique immediately hooked me. Overall, I enjoyed the subsequent push and pull, as they renavigate their relationship, and understood how Shelby's vulnerabilities made her overly cautious, to the point of self-sabotage.
I wished, however, that the conflict over modelling had been a bit more fleshed out. There were a lot of 'modelling is degrading' vibes, and clearly Shelby's college modelling experience was bad, but we never *really* got what was so bad about it, other than men looking at her. I think I know where the author was going with this, but there was a lot of 'I know you hate modelling' conversations without it being explained. I also would have LOVED some of the much-promised teasing from Zach and Dylan. Maybe we could get a bonus chapter or outtake? Pretty, pretty please?
Those things aside, I loved their chemistry and the final chapters, and I especially enjoyed the role of a certain parent. Plus, the epilogue wraps the series up perfectly.
I am a sucker for a book with a cute illustrated cover, and this one was no exception! I didn't realize until I finished reading this, but it is actually part of a series "Kiss and Tell" and is book #6. I was able to read it as a standalone but I wish that I knew about the other 5 books as I usually always have to read books in order if it is a series. This is a second chance romance where the MCs had great banter and chemistry. It was a really cute read!
(Thank you NetGalley and publisher for sharing an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review)
A book with a cute cover? Say yes! It’s the kind of book that is well narrated it takes you in into its own world and helps you escape the reality for a while.
A fast paced story without any needless dragging at any point that keeps you engrossed till the very end! I’m not a huge fan of second chances but I just maybe changing my stance after this one.
A recommended read if you’re looking for something light, interesting and not too slow! 💯
Shelby and Nick's story is a part of the Kiss and Tell series. I hadn't read any of the previous stories in this series but this can be read as a standalone.
Though I had several questions and comments about few aspects (including why the aversion to modeling, shouldn't they be happy instead of jealous or envious about other couples? Ah these two come out as clueless and immature when they say/ do this! Etc etc.), I read this at one shot without putting down the book. So that's saying something.
When Nick enters a bridal salon with his cousin, he's shocked to see ex-girlfriend Shelby there in a wedding gown. He realizes he's never gotten over her. Discovering she was there for a modeling job, he decides it's time to win her back, before it's too late. But Shelby, who grew up with a narcissistic mother and an absent father, doesn't believe love is in the cards for her. Can he convince her to open her heart?
I really liked Nick and Shelby. They've got good chemistry, and Nick is devoted to her, despite how skittish she is. His family also play a large role. This is a book about supporting the ones you love through difficulties, and finding that place where you belong. It's well written and well paced, with a strong plot and characters. While it's the sixth book in the series, it can be read as a standalone.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
This was a typical romance story (no spice). It was cute but the characters did seem pretty superficial. I think I would have been more interested in reading about the side characters love stories more. I did enjoy the dual POV. Thank you NetGalley and Xpresso Book Tours for this ARC.
Nick is still hung up on Shelby even after two years apart so when he has the opportunity to try to win her back, he goes for it. The secondary characters help make this story and the way Nick never gives up on Shelby just melts my heart. I loved the ending to this story. It was just perfect. This author’s writing style made the book just flow and I could not put it down.
Thank you to Netgalley and CAH LLC for the opportunity to read this advanced reader copy. This honest review was based off my experience reading an ARC, which in no way biased me.
This is my first time reading a book by this author. The Kiss & Tell series included 6 interconnected standalones.
This book was not for me, not one bit, and to be honest I wanted to DNF out of sheer boredom if not (a bad annoyed) frustration with the MCs.
This line though solidified the fact that I needed to finish this book if not just to write this review.
There is a scene where Nick, the MMC, is on the phone with one of his male friends, and Nick is telling the friend that Nick’s brother and his wife were having a couple’s baby shower. The friend’s response was “Why would your brother throw a couples’ shower? That’s totally gay.” (Chapter 13)
Now, this is a review for the ARC copy, I cannot confirm that this line made it into the final published copy or not. But the fact that this line even made it into the ARC copy is concerning. Having this line was unnecessary and a CHOICE. Not having Nick comment on his friend’s obvious homophobia was also a choice.
There is also another situation later in the book that was questionable. Nick is comparing his feelings for Shelby as a drug. “Nick spent his youth partying and having fun. He’d never done drugs-he’d never understood the appeal of losing total control-but if Shelby were an illegal substance, he’d be addicted. He’d shoot her into his system and wear a ‘Rehab is for Quitters’ for life.” (Chapter 43)
😬 is all I have to say. Again, I cannot confirm this scene/snippet made it into the published edition, but the presence of this in the ARC copy is again, concerning.
There were some interesting tropes, but it overall lacked the proper execution to make this an engaging read for me.
This is a closed door romance, but I feel like this should be mentioned somewhere so people are aware.
Both the FMC and MMC’s (third person) POVs were not enjoyable to read. Both felt like they were overcompensating the “single life/no commitments” publicly, and being super, well whiny for lack of a better term when they were alone (or the reader is stuck in their heads).
For being a 291 page book, this read a lot longer and denser.
This was not for me, but it might be someone’s cup of tea.
This book is a second chance romance, but one of the best parts of second chances is seeing how the romance was before and what went wrong. Here, we were just told that their was a romance and Shelby broke it off because it got to serious.
I think one of the biggest problems with the book was that I just didn't connect with either of the characters. They seemed very one dimensional and lacked personality or many features. I also felt that histories of both characters (separate and apart) were mentioned, but not going into as much in depth as I would have liked. We know Shelby hates modelling, but why is it such a big deal to her? It is touched on briefly, but not explored nearly in depth enough.
This book was dubbed as a romance, but we got very little romance. The couple (as they always do) eventually get together, but we get very little insight into the HEA. Even more, it happened so suddenly. Shelby went from not wanting to be in a relationship, to wanting a commitment (marriage) so quickly! It didn't seem believable at all.
I also struggled with some of the (what seemed to me) unnecessary comments. Why were people (more than once) so interested in Shelby's ancestry, and the comments on her "darker complexion" and being able to "pass" as Hispanic in modelling because people "like diversity". Why was that comment even necessary? There was also an off colour joke about Shelby's place not looking good and it's relation to the Minneapolis riots.
I guess there were lots of things that bothered me about this book and it was just not right for me. I'm not sure who I would recommend it to either. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy. All opinions are 100% mine.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc instead of an honest opinion.
3.5 stars
Fancy Meeting You Here is 6th book of the series Kiss & Tell. It follows the story of Shelby Zurlo and Nick Chamberlain. They had hooked during the wedding of her best friend and his brother two years ago and then broke up. It is a second chance romance.
Two years after their breakup, Nick, who is still hung up on Shelby, finds her dressed in a wedding gown in a bridal salon and assumes she is engaged.
Shelby, who is commitment phobic due to her parents' disastrous relationship, is overwhelmed to run in Nick, the only person she has been love with, while she is modeling in a bridal salon. Nick wants to give their relationship a second chance. But she is restraining.
Nick and Shelby were ok. They were enjoyable but annoying at times. His family and friends were nice. I wish he didn't react the way he did regarding modelling. The smut level was zero. They had few kisses, but it was just bland. The writing style was good. The thing that annoyed me the most was that one minute she was saying she wanted space and next minute they were engaged.
I would maybe recommend it. I'm not sure.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Fancy Meeting You Here is a sweet second chance romance where Shelby and Nick cross paths at a couples baby shower and start to rethink why they broke up in the first place. This is a book in a series but I hadn't read any of the others and did not feel confused at all so it can definitely be read as a stand alone.
What I loved: - Shelby & Nick's origin story, I love when authors write clichés really well and how this relationship originally started is a well written cliché - Family, Nick's family is very important to him and plays a big role in his life which just makes him loveable - Friends, Shelby has a found family in her four roommates from college and they seem like the best and remind me of my close friends group - Short chapters, I don't know about anyone else but I LOVE short chapters. It makes me feel like the story is moving quicker and I can sneak more reading in during the day when I take short mental breaks
This was a sweet second chance romance that was a quick read that I enjoyed immensely. This is a story for the romance readers who is looking for a great character building story and completely closed door. I will definitely take a look at the backlog for this series as I cannot wait to learn more about Nick's family and Shelby's friends.
The Chamberlain Brothers have all graduated college and have successful careers. This book concentrates on the youngest Chamberlain brother Nick. We also catch up with his sister-in-law Emily and her college roommates. Nick's brothers used to tease him because he never wanted to settle down. That is until Nick and Shelby had a secret romance and she broke his heart. After a chance meeting both Nick and Shelby realize they still have feelings for one another. Can Nick win her back? Will Shelby put her fears aside and give love a chance?
Sometimes I wanted to strangle Shelby. But when you come from a broken home, I guess it is scary to enter a relationship. I liked the banter between the couples. This story felt like I was checking in with old friends. This book can be read as a stand alone.. I hope this isn't the last book in the series!
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
Nick and Shelby’s story is book 6 in a series that I haven’t read nor will I go back and read the other 5. As a stand-alone it was an okay story with some side characters that clearly had been better explained previously.
Nick is the troublemaker of his family that now that he’s met the right girl wants to settle down, aggressively so. Shelby is the kid from the broken family whose sworn to never settle. Who wins in their battle of wills?
Honestly it would have been an okay read if it weren’t for the authors weird prose. The one statement that just was the final straw was when Shelby compared Nick complementing her seemingly run down apartment to saying that Minneapolis looked nice after the riots. Yikes. Like this could have been the best book ever and that would have been a tough sell
They had an affair two years ago and then they broke up . He see her wearing a wedding dress he believes that she is getting married and so he herat broken . She is at the bridal shop for her job but she helping a friend and poses for the photographer . They meet at his brother baby shower and he discover that he was wrong . He is trying to win her back . Will he succeed ? I received this book from net galley and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
