First Comes Baby...

Rate this book
Her to-do list was slightly out of order in New York Times bestselling author Christine Rimmer's second book in the Wild Rose Sisters miniseries!

“Will you marry me?”

When Josie LeClaire went into labor alone on her farm, the single almost-mother had no one to turn to but her neighbor, Miles Halstead. Fortunately, the widowed single father was more than up to the task. And as he found himself unable to stay away from the lovely Josie—and her adorable newborn son—he realized he wanted her in his life as more than a friend.

Josie treasured what Miles had already come to mean to her and her baby. So when he uttered those four words, of course she said yes. Even if he couldn’t say the three words she really wanted to hear…

This is a Cute Friends to Lovers Romance, and this is the second book in the Wild Rose Sisters series. I read and reviewed the first book in this series before I picked up this book. I loved the beginning of this book. I found the romance to be sweet and cute, and I found both the main characters fit together so well. I really loved the characters in this book. I also love the small town feeling that this book as going on. I really enjoyed reading this book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin Special Edition) or author (Christine Rimmer) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Josie has given up on finding a partner after being unlucky in love and chooses to have a baby on her own. But when she gives birth with the help of her neighbor Miles, a connection is formed between the two, and they decide to get married to form a comfortable family unit. But of course, the marriage-of-convenience is not as convenient as it seems…

I picked up this book for an obvious reason: There is a smiling baby flying through the air on the cover. The whole thing screams comfort. And this was a warm comfort read indeed. The leads are really likable and well-suited to each other – they are friends first, but become attracted to each other after bonding through Davy and decide to get married because they enjoy each other’s company and have both been burned by love.

The book is quite low angst, which I enjoyed, as the plot mostly deals with the characters getting to know each other and acknowledging the true nature of the feelings simmering between them. They were a couple I could see realistically working together. I also liked the relationships between the leads and Miles’s daughters, who also read like real teenagers.

However, I thought the ending was somewhat rushed, with the situation with Ashley being resolved in a rather lacklustre manner. After I skated along so comfortably the abrupt nature of it was like a splash of cold water! I also wished Davy had a more important role in the story; he brought Josie and Miles together of course, but any number of things could have done that and I was expecting more of a cuteness factor from him.

Overall though, it was definitely an enjoyable read, hitting a lot of the tropes I like and every bit as cosy as the cover promises.

Disclaimer: I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Veterinarian Josie LeClaire is the middle sister of three. Besides being a well respected vet, she also runs Wild Rose farm with the help of her aunt and sisters. She decides that even though she has not met “the one”, she is going to be a mother. When she goes into labor alone on the farm, she goes next door for help from widower and single father Miles Halstead.

They have been next door neighbors all their lives and with their shared birth experience and similar love of farm life, they decide to get married and intertwine their lives and farms. While it is a marriage of respect and caring, Josie soon discovers she wants the three little words that Mike said her could never give.

These two are a wonderful pairing and it is both ironic and realistic that they still have a major hurdle to overcome. I really enjoyed their journey to complete trust. The sex scenes are explicit, but not gratuitous. All the secondary characters and pets add to the charm of the story. This romance has the HEA we all want.

I love this addition to the trilogy and am looking forward to the next book with Alex’s story.

Neighbors to Friends to Lovers to so much more

In the second installment of the Wild Rose Sisters series, you can’t help but fall in love with the characters. This was another wonderfully written book by Christine Rimmer, who has a way of bringing two dimensional characters to life and makes you want to move in next door to them. From the very first page, the reader is drawn into the emotional storyline and it grips you until the very last page. Josephine LeClaire and Miles Halstead are neighbors that are thrown into a crazy morning that connects them emotionally forever. Josephine shows up on Miles’ doorstep in the middle of the night in a snowstorm and Miles delivers her baby. Throw in some lovable family members on both sides, lots of farm animals, and a couple of protective dogs and you have the makings of a great story! I cannot recommend this story enough and I was sad to see it end. Another well done story! 10 out of 10, highly recommend!!!

I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down.
Josie LeClaire was in labor and no one was around to help her so she goes over to her neighbor, Miles Halstead, for help. The roads were not good for driving and he ends up delivering David, Davy, Miles. The feeling that all new moms have for the first couple of months is right here to be read, and Josie relies on Mile's and his girls Ashley and Hazel more than she realizes. The story moves on from there and it...is...so...good.

Any time I pick up a Christine Rimmer book I know it will be awesome. One that I usually can't put down until it's finished. This one was no exception.

Miles is asleep when he hears someone knocking on his door. He is surprised to find his very pregnant next door neighbor. She has walked a mile in labor to see if he will drive her to the hospital. She doesn't think that she can drive and she could not call anyone because she has lost her phone.

From this point on the book just gets better and better. Check it out you will be so glad that you did.

Terrific friends to lovers story. Josie is the true farmer of the family and is in charge of Wild Rose Farm after her sister Payton and Aunt Marilyn found love in the first book of the series (The Father of Her Sons) and moved away to be with their men. Josie intrigued me from the start with her independence and determination. After several failed relationships, she gave up on finding "The One" but not on her dream of being a mother. A visit to a sperm bank and her wish is about to come true.

As the book opens, Josie is in labor, snow is falling, and her sisters and aunt aren't due to arrive yet. With no landline and unable to find her cellphone to call an ambulance, Josie walks to the farm next door and pounds on the door. Miles, a widower and single father, handled the emergency calmly and competently, delivering young David Miles with a minimum of fuss. I loved how he encouraged Josie when she doubted herself and distracted her when she needed it.

That support continued after Josie had the baby and her family returned to their homes. Though Josie hangs on to her independence, there are times when she appreciates the help. And as the occasional check-in turns into near-daily lunches together, Miles and Josie quickly find they have a lot in common. There are some adorable scenes of Davy and Miles, who can't get enough time with the sweet baby. Also in common is their mutual refusal to believe in love. Josie's relationships ended badly, and Miles's story of his wife's betrayal was heartbreaking.

The more time they spend together, the deeper their friendship grows. That friendship makes Miles realize how much he's missed having a wife - a companion, a confidant, a partner, and a lover. He shocked Josie when he proposed that they marry and that their friendship will make a better basis for marriage than s-called love. Remembering her romantic failures leads her to accept Miles's proposal.

Their marriage gets off to a great start. The attraction between Miles and Josie is fantastic; their teamwork working the two farms and caring for their blended family goes smoothly, and life is good. Then Josie realizes that her feelings for Miles have grown beyond friendship. She knows he hasn't changed his stance on love, so what should she do? I ached for Josie, who doesn't want to lose Miles, but she can't go on pretending. I could feel her trepidation as she worked up the courage to face him with those feelings. I liked seeing her stand up for her needs and her belief that he loves her. I wanted to shake Miles, who did not react well to her confession.

I ached for both as their fears created a chasm between them. I loved seeing Miles get hit with advice from his girls and his mother. At the same time, Josie's sister Alex forced her to face some uncomfortable truths about her part in the problem. I loved the ending and seeing them brought together by a family crisis, getting them past the pride that kept them apart. I especially liked the reality of Miles's confession that he's "working on" his issues because something that deep isn't going to go away quickly.

I enjoyed the bits with Miles's daughters, Ashley (16) and Hazel (13). Ashley's problems with her dad were believable and well-illustrated. I felt sorry for Miles, whose confusion over her attitude was plain to see. The love between them was evident, as was the frustration. Hazel was sweet. I liked how she jumped in to help Josie with her rescue animals and her enthusiasm for taking care of Davy. She's observant for her age, and I enjoyed her take on the things she saw.

Now I can't wait to read Alex's story.

This is a wonderful book for couldn't put down for Josie LeClaire, is a single mom who goes into labor while alone at the farm. Since no one there to help she goes to her neighbor, Miles, farm. Miles Halstead who is a single father of two girls and is up to the helping deliver her baby boy. He goes to the hospital so they are not alone seeing her family hasn’t arrived yet to help her. He stays with her until she's out of the hospital and her family makes it back to the farm.
Due to this happening a friendship is in the making. That have a lot in common such as both being farmers, and having children, and they enjoy working together. Miles finds any reason he can think of to be around her and her newborn son. Because he can't seem to stay away. His daughters love Josie also.
The more time they spend together, the more it feels like a family. Even with Miles around a lot he still wants to keep his distance because he's been hurt by his wife who passed. He was devastated. Thinking that their love was a lie Miles loves Davy and definitely cares for Josie, and Josie feels the same about his daughters. She tells herself she is not looking for love either; however, they do end up getting married. Thinking what could go wrong, right will they each fall in love with each other? I love this book for it is a quick read and couldn’t put it down and once again the author delivered a well written story that keeps the reader intrigued. It’s about letting go of the past, realizing that not everyone is the same and people do get a second chance at finally finding true love.
Loved reading about life on the farm and the rescue animals to know there are people out there like that who will help an animal because they are kind and compassionate people out there for it gives me hope in the human race.
Thank you Christine Rimmer for writing a wonderful book once again for it was read in record time and loved it so much. Felt like I was on the farm there helping everyone taking care of the rescue animals.

Josie LeClaire is a single mother-to-be when she goes into labor while she’s alone at the farm. Since no one is home, she goes to her neighbor’s farm. Miles Halstead, a widower and single father of two girls, is up to the task and helps her deliver her baby boy. He goes to the hospital so they are not alone. He stays with Josie until she is out of the hospital and her family makes it back to the farm. This ends up being a friendship in the making. They have a lot in common such as both are farmers, have children, know all about hard work and enjoy working together. He can’t seem to stay away. His daughters already loves Josie.
The more time they spend together, the more it feels like a family. Miles can’t give Josie his love because he’s been hurt by his dead wife, who had a secret affair their whole marriage. He was devastated. It was all a lie. Miles can be her partner for life. He already loves her son and cares for Josie. Josie feels the same about his daughters. She’s not looking for love either. They end up getting married. What could go wrong? Will they honor their vows? Will Josie fall in love? What will Miles say when she does? Will he accept her love? Will Josie want a one-sided love marriage? Will Miles let her walk away? I love this book. It’s about letting go of the past, realizing that not everyone is like his wife, second chances and finally finding true love. Thank you Christine Rimmer for letting me read and review it.

This is the 2nd book in the Wild Rose Sisters series but can be read as a stand alone book. Christine Rimmer does not disappoint in this story. The book starts with a bang! Josie, a single Rancher who is in labor shows up at the neighboring farm for help after misplacing her cell phone and about to deliver her baby. Miles is the neighbor who is a single father of 2 teen girls and is more than happy to help his neighbor. Miles ends up actually delivering the baby and makes frequent visits to Josie’s ranch from then on. The 2 become close and Miles’ youngest daughter actually helps Josie with her foster kitties too. Both Josie & Miles have been hurt deeply by prior relationships but form a very close friendship and then decide they should bond their families together out of friendship and decide to marry “as convenance”. One huge problem develops as Josie confesses her love for Miles. Will these 2 be able to come to terms with their fears, their past failed relationships and move forward or will they let their stubbornness and fears win? This is a wonderful written story with input about their pasts and also extra introductions of Miles 2 daughters and Josie’s sisters, Aunt and Ranch. I won’t spoil the end, you really need to read this and it will not disappoint!

In labor, in a snowstorm, can't find your car keys or your phone, and you're walking to the neighbor's house for help! What a pickle for Josie LeClair! She has planned for everything...but this! Luckily for her, neighbor Miles Halstead, is a stand up guy and a pretty good stand-in for the doctor.

Josie has 'chosen' her baby daddy via a catalogue. She was tired of trying to meet anyone and wanted a child. Good for her. Miles is a widower with 2 daughters. He is trying to be everything for his girls and failing pretty spectacularly as the girls reach teenager-hood! Josie thinks he's still in love with his first wife, but feels more than friendship for Miles. Miles doesn't understand why Josie went the insemination route when she is so beautiful. Their increasing feelings for each other, and the girls loving having a baby around, leads to difficulties and misunderstandings. Can they work it out and do the best for them and their children?

Book two in the Wild Rose Sisters, begins a few months after the first book in the series, The Father of Her Sons, leaves off. Although this book can be read as a standalone, you get some background from the first book that increases the enjoyment of this one.

As usual, Ms. Rimmer's writing is well plotted and executed. Her characters have issues and foibles that we all have, making them relatable to most. Another great book.

🐣MY Review🐣
I loved the story of Miles Halstead and Josie LeClaire. They are easy to like with emotional back stories. More times than I could count, I found myself smiling and laughing and at times wanting to shake Miles. I also thought that the fact it was a friends to lovers and a blended family story with lots of animals that made this story even more enjoyable. I highly recommend this book and all of her other books if you love romance. You really can't go wrong no matter which book of hers you pick up. Cant wait for # 3

Josie LeClaire is tired of playing the love game and has decided to start her family on her own. Miles Halstead has been betrayed by the only women he has ever loved. Josie's and Miles's lives collide one snowy blessed night. Will either of them ever be the same?
Christine Rimmer immediately captures your heart and your imagination with her wonderful new romance First Comes Baby...!!! Miles and Josie are heartbreakingly dear. They are both caring, nurturing, giving people who deserve the best in life. They both long for love, stability, and a family. Both are afraid to gamble in love again.
Our heroine, Josie has the adorable baby of her dreams and needs just one more thing in her life to make her truly happy...the love of a good man. Miles is a kind nurturing father. He loves his daughters and wishes for a wife but is afraid to love again. You will fall in love with Miles and Josie! You will be captivated by their rocky road to romance and their passion for each other.
I just loved First Comes Baby by Christine Rimmer and I can't recommend this romance enough!!! Christine Rimmer never disappoints and her Wild Rose Sisters series is enchanting! The sisters are complex and relatable. The romances are passionate and heartwarming. I cannot wait of the next romance in the series!!!

This is the 2nd book in this trilogy and it was a good as the others.
This book concentrates on Josie, she lives on the farm on her own. Her sister Payton and her Aunt have moved away to be with their respective husbands.
Josie wanted a baby and decided to use a sperm bank. She is almost due and her Aunt and sisters are coming home to be with her but the baby decides to come early. Josie is left no choice but to ask Miles for help. Miles lives on the neighbouring farm and is glad to help.
Miles comes to the farm most days to see how Josie and the baby are doing and to help where he can. His two daughters also come and spend time with Josie and the baby as well. Miles has been hurt by his wife, who has passed away and is not looking for a relationship, neither is Josie but the more time they spend together the more they like each other. Can they form a family unit? Will the hurts they both have from the past let them find love again?
Really enjoyed Josie and Miles story, they are really good characters. Liked that Miles's girls also had interesting plotlines, especially Ashley.
Would recommend this trilogy.

Josephine LeClaire appears at her neighbor Miles Halstead’s door at three o’clock in the morning about to giving birth her son, asking for help to get to the hospital. Labor speeds up and Josie ends up giving birth in Miles’ room. This event initiates an unexpected friendship that eventually leads to marriage. Where’s the trick? It’ll be a marriage in which they will have all the benefits that it brings… except love.

This is a romance without extravagance but its development comes too fast. Despite this, their love stems from friendship, which makes it more believable. There’s also passion and intensity in their love interactions. Being two farmers with similar interests makes them more attractive.

The reading is fast and, although sometimes it has gaps that hinder the flowing rhythm of the plot, the book has well thought out scenes, with transitions that aren’t forced at all and with touches of humor. It has been a pleasure to meet again with a story written by Ms. Rimmer.

First Comes Baby (Wild Rose Sister book 2)" by Christine Rimmer is a great addition to the series. This is a story about Josie LeClaire and Miles Halstead. Josie walked to his place in the snow as she felt that she couldn't drive herself and she lost her phone. Miles ends up delivering her son. They develop a friendship of sorts. Miles asks Josie to marry him. He states it's a marriage of convenience since he wants to do with love and she feels the same. Until she doesn't. Josie realizes she in love with her husband. Miles doesn't believe in romantic love as he was burnt by it. He late wife cheated on him during their whole marriage. Will Miles be able to take the risk of loving Josie? Or will he be too late to realized it? Read "First Comes Baby" to find out. Christine Rimmer never disappoints.

First Comes Baby is the second book in Christine Rimmer’s Wild Rose Sisters series. I am never disappointed by a book written by Ms. Rimmer. If you enjoy reading a friends-to-lovers trope this one is for you! It is a fast paced read and starts off with Josie LeClaire seeking out Miles Halstead. She is in labor and can’t make it to the hospital. After the birth of her son David, she returns home, but Miles is never far. He’s always checking on her.

As time passes, their friendship grows and Miles decides to pop the question. They marry but will Miles learn to move on from his past? Will he realize that their love is special? Will Josie share her feelings and stick with the marriage? And when a family crisis lands at their feet, will they realize their love is stronger together than apart?

I love this book and this series. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I received an advance copy which I chose to read and review. This is my honest opinion.

Josie LeClaire is tired of waiting for "the one"! She decides to have a baby on her own. Well plans don't always go the way you want. She goes into labor in the middle of the night and her sisters and Aunt haven't arrived yet. She goes to her neighbor Miles house and knocks on his door in the middle of the night. Miles is a widowed dad to two teenage girls. He helps Josie with her baby and the two find themselves becoming close friends. Miles is just as gun shy about love as Josie so he proposes a married based on mutual attraction, friendship with no mention love. Josie agrees and things are going great until Josie realizes she is actually in love with her husband. Both of them have been burned in the past but can they move past old hurts to find what they have really been looking for? Read on to find out.

Josie LeClaire has given up on love and several disastrous relationships. She still wanted a child, so she is having one. So many ohs and ahhhs while reading this story. Miles and Josie are neighbors. He helps deliver her baby and that’s where the magic starts. He is such a good/strong man. He’s had his heart broken when his wife dies. I loved this story so much. I loved that he wanted to get married first before they had sex. They get married “knowing” they are both done with love and are happy to enjoy each other and life together. But life has other plans and Josie falls in love. Miles needs a hit over the head lol to realize he is losing one of the best things to happen to him. My heart broke for his daughter Ash when she had the heart to heart with her dad. But, no worries, Christine delivers a amazing ending and the perfect HEA. Love the Wild Rose Sisters.

I love Christine Rimmer's books. I freely admit it. She's one of the few authors whose books I automatically buy without reading the blurb on the back.

I genuinely enjoyed her latest, "First Comes Baby..." From the beginning when Miles was awakened in the middle of the night by his very pregnant and in-labor neighbor, Josie, to their marriage of convenience, then to the rocky patch and finally to the happy ending, their story held my interest.

Miles and Josie each had their reasons not to fall in love again. They had so many things in common and complemented each other so well, why not get married? No love needed or wanted, until...

Whether this is your first Christine Rimmer book or your 10th (or more), you will NOT be disappointed!

Christine Rimmer has another prize in her Wild Rose Sisters Triology! Josie LeClaire is a woman strong enough to have the baby she longs for by IVF. She knows she can count on her sister and her aunt who live on Wild Rose Farm with her. Then love strikes her family - read the first book of this trilogy The Father oF Her Sons to find out how. Precipitous labor in the middle of a blizzard forces her to depend on her neighbor, Miles Halstead. Following their friends to lovers journey was such fun I read it in one sitting while cheering for both of them. Well written and completely believable. Everyone in this books is a good guy! I am looking forward to Alex's story - the next of the Wild Rose Sisters.

This is book 2 in the Wild Rose Sisters series by Christine Rimmer.

Josie goes into labor during a snowstorm, can't find her cell phone, and has to walk to her neighbor's home, Miles Halstead to get help. She is having contractions and there is no time to get to the hospital, so Miles calmly assists her during delivery of her baby boy, David.

Miles looks at Josie and her baby thinking he would like to be more than friends with her. He wants them both in his life permanently. How will he go about courting her, will she date him? Will they marry?

This is another awesome read by Christine Rimmer. Her books create a story you don't want to put down. The characters are very real, ones I think we all can relate to. I really enjoyed her latest story.

Great read!
Was excited to read this second installment on Christine’s new series! As always, Christine brings us strong and intelligent female characters. A different take of an unexpected love story where what the characters expect as a marriage of convenience turns into love. Miles has sworn off love after the betrayal of his first wife & only wants the comforts of home and an equal partner whom his daughters adore. Josie has had several failed relationships and doesn’t think she can get through another disappointment. Better to have a steady, hard working partner as a step dad for her baby boy. No spoilers!

After Josie LeClaire enlists Miles Halstead's help in delivering her baby, he ends up spending more time with Josie on Wild Rose Farm, helping her and young David Miles. And while they become closer, they are both leary of the L word. So, when Miles proposes, but says love is not part of the deal, but he cares for Josie, she accepts, feeling the same way. But as so often happens in these marriages of convenience, someone starts feeling more. Plus, Miles is dealing with his teenage daughter, Ashley, who on the surface seems to be a typical teenager but is also hiding feelings and secrets.

This story was a delight! It begins with the birth of Josie's baby--delivered by neighbor Miles. The relationship blooms slowly for Miles, and Josie is quicker on the draw. Adding some teenage angst from Miles' daughter Ashley and his pre-teen Hazel is a delightful 30 year old in a pre-ten body! These girls need a mother figure and Miles needs a wife and partner. If he would only get out of his own way! He finally realizes that Josie is the best answer for EVERYONE in his family! Even him!

Excellent book by Christine Rimmer! Highly recommend!

Another great book by MS. Rimmer. Josie and Miles have lived next to each other for years but hardly knew each other. That all charged the night she came pounding on his door ready to give birth. once she had the baby with his help they became friends. Soon they want to be more like friends with benefits. But Miles did not like the idea of a one nightstand he thought maybe married friends with out the messy love thing in the way. As they both have been bad by love they thought this was better. But was it?

Book 2 of the Wild Rose Sisters definitely delivers! Miles Halstead is rudely woken up at 3 in the morning only to discover Josie LeClaire is in labor. After this kind of a whirlwind reintroduction, where too much personal information might have been shared, Miles and Josie become friends first, then straight to marriage. Christine Rimmer delivers a wonderful story about blending families together and how everyone has problems to work through. A great story of people who can suffer bad things apart but come together in the end to make it work.

I thought Christine Rimmer did a fabulous work on this book and all her books. This is the second book in thir Wild Rose Sisters series. I loved reading both of them.
Josie LeClair went to have a baby son.
Miles was come to great closeness to her and her baby.
Josie and Miles the main characters fit well together. The romance between the two of then very special and unique. I felt like I was right there in the whole book. I love small town romance very much.
The characters fit well and a book that I will never forget.
I recommend this book to all romance readers.
