Rate this book
Summer—the ultimate time of year for ice cream, beach visits, relaxation... and monsters. From the lakes to the rivers to the fjords to the seas to the outer reaches of space, monsters are rising and leaving a trail of mayhem in their wake.

In this globe-spanning spectrum of tales, remember what it was like to be a teenager, explore the ties that bind family, recover lost treasures and face indescribable odds. Each adventure will amaze and terrify.

It's grizzly and gruesome in these monstrous waters. Test what lurks in their hidden depths and discover whether the greater monsters dwell in the outer world or the inner mind.

Disclaimer: I was involved in this collaboration and am the author of one of the stories (Sunshine on Ice), so I am somewhat biased, however I have tried my best to be objective!

This is a great, diverse collection of stories, full of atmosphere and each one interpreting the prompt we were given (“On the hottest day of summer, something monstrous rises from the deeps”) in a different way. It includes a few quite dark stories, and a few lighter ones, but all of them encapsulate the ominous feeling of the prompt perfectly.

I have read hardly any short stories (in fact, before starting mine I had to do some research about how to write a short story given I knew nothing!) so this is a new medium for me. I always assumed a short story would not be long enough to engage me or for me to become invested in a character or their world, but every story in this collection has proved otherwise. I have been so impressed by what we achieved here that I am really excited about exploring the world of short stories further – and writing more myself.

I'd also like to mention that a lot of hard work went into this book, with very tight deadlines over a limited time period, so it is doubly impressive that the result is so good - testament to the talent of all those involved. It was so much fun working together, from all over the world, to put this together and I look forward to more!!!

Lastly, all proceeds of this book are going to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. A couple of quid for the Kindle version, a little more for paperback – and well worth every penny!

Lovely collection of short stories. It was really fun to explore the writing skills of my fellow community members. I can't wait to see what else they might publish in the future.

Monstrous Waters is an anthology of short stories based on one prompt. I really enjoyed all the different takes on it.
I liked all short stories but my two favourites are "Swimmy Story" by Manisha Dasari and "Lula, or the Promise of Amoebas" by Daniel Lafferty and would like to see more of them.
