Christmas at Cozy Holly Inn

Rate this book
A sweet, cozy small town holiday romance perfect for snuggling up by the fire with a steaming mug of hot cocoa and a cat or two by your side.

When Julie Green’s ailing grandmother asks her to arrange one last party at the old Inn she used to run, Julie can’t say no even though the last thing she wants is to leave the city for middle-of-nowhere Vermont. Even worse, Cozy Holly Inn is in disrepair, there’s a persnickety cat hiding in the basement and the family of grinches who own the competing inn down the street seem determined to ruin her chances of success.

Nolan Miller retreated to Pinecone Falls, Vermont, to heal his broken heart and help his grandfather run Barrington Lodge - a rustic old bed-and-breakfast that has been in the family for generations. This year, though, he needs to find a way to get his Christmas spirit back before he turns into a grinch like his father and grandfather. But even if he gets his spirit back, he’s not letting anyone in again, especially not Julie Green who has made it clear she’s leaving town as soon as she can.

But when Julie needs help, Nolan can’t say no and putting the party together makes Julie realize that small town friendships might have more to offer than big city lights.

Kringle, the cat, only wants a warm home and his forever human. This girl, Julie, does not seem to fit the bill no matter what the nice lady at the animal shelter told him. Julie knows nothing about cats so he will do his best to get her to return him to the shelter. But as the week unfolds, Kringle discovers that people can change in surprising ways and sometimes what you thought you wanted, isn’t what you really needed at all.

Christmas at Cozy Holly Inn by Meredith Summers is a 2021 publication.

This is a cute holiday themed contemporary novel centered around Pinecone Falls, a cozy little town in Vermont. Julie Green’s grandmother, Ida, is selling her B&B, but before the sale in finalized, she wants to host one more Christmas Eve party. Unfortunately, she is a little under the weather, so she calls Julie asking her to help with decorating the B&B. Because Julie is in-between jobs, and she can’t refuse her grandmother under the circumstances, she leaves Boston to spend a few weeks getting the B&B in shape for the big Christmas party finale….

When she arrives, though, the place is in disrepair, she finds a cat she doesn’t want, and who doesn’t seem to like her very much, but becomes her temporary responsibility, and a neighbor, Nolan Miller, she doesn’t have fond memories of, is suddenly quite interested in whether she plans to stick around or return to Boston.

Nolan’s family has been through some heavy tragedies, virtually erasing their holiday spirit- seemingly forever. Now they are set to buy the B&B, but Julie’s appearance has made them suspicious. To make sure the sale isn’t about the fall through, Nolan’s family wants him to keep an eye on Julie Green…

This is a festive story with plenty of holiday atmosphere. Lots of snow, decorations, holiday memories and a little romance to top things off. Because this was such a nice story, I hesitate to nitpick- but the small-town vs. the big city comparisons were too heavy handed, and contradicted itself a time or two as Julie's neighbors weren't always very nice. There are salt of the earth people everywhere, not just in small towns, but that is my only complaint.

I was completely won over by the animals in the story- both ‘Kringle” the cat and ‘Snowball”, the dog played key roles in the story, and were occasional scene-stealers.

Overall, I love good, clean, holiday stories- and I read lots of them every year- and yes, often they are predictable-but that is not always a bad thing, in my opinion, and so what? Sometimes holiday stories can go overboard on the sap, though- but Summers did a good job of keeping the story light in tone, while avoiding anything too sickly sweet. It had just the right touch of holiday spirit and was a lovely way to spend a dreary afternoon.

I finished the book so I guess it deserved 2 stars. The writing wasn't good and the story was worse than a Hallmark Christmas movie. The only character I liked was the cat. This was not a holiday romance, it was a complete fantasy. People just don't talk and act like this. I don't recommend.

A very enjoyable Christmas story. Well written with interesting characters. The story is totally predictable but isn't that what Christmas should traditionally be--predictable!

Christmas at Cozy Holly Inn by Meredith Summers is the perfect book to cozy up with on the couch with some cocoa.

I really loved this story set in Pinecone Falls. We meet Julie Green who has returned to town to get her grandmother's Inn ready for a last Christmas party as her grandmother had closed down the inn as it was just too much for her.

Julie really has trouble with the snow and the cat. We also meet Nolan and his dog and those scenes were really fun.

Grief is a central theme in this otherwise lighthearted wintry Christmas story, which is realistic during the holidays, many people are feeling grief for different reasons, loved ones lost or not being able to see loved ones, or lost loves.

I live in Maine and the descriptions of the snow were spot on, it can be too much for some people.

The characters were well written.

Go spend some time in Pinecone Falls , you won't be sorry.

Christmas at Cozy Holly Inn by Meredith Summers is a contemporary romance/crossroads/new beginnings novel set in Vermont. It is a very clean romance, and, in my opinion, the romance is a side dish and not the entree.

Julie is returning to Cozy Holly Inn about two weeks before Christmas. Her Grams has asked her to help prepare for the last Christmas party as owner of Cozy Holly Inn. Instead of being the easy, laid back preparation Julie expects, setback after setback slows her down.

Julie arrives in Pinecone Falls from Boston at a time in her life when she is between jobs. She loved Pinecone Falls as a girl, but is convinced her life is in Boston now. Will the magic of small town life work on helping her figure out what she really wants? Will a chance of love be too good to pass up?

This book started out slowly for me. I did appreciate that it's very clean in terms of intimacy between the love interests. At most, a brief kiss or two.

Such a pretty cover on this book. It is a really good book for the holidays. Julie came to help her grandmother out with the last Christmas party at the Inn. It made me want to go to Vermont for the holidays and see the snow. I would recommend reading this book. I check out the other books in the series.

Meredith Summer (pseudonym of Leighann Dobbs) has written a heartwarming story that begins "a series of sweet, cozy small town holiday romances." Julie Green lost her job with "Boston Best" magazine 4 months ago, so there was little hesitation in accepting her dearly loved grandmother's request to prepare the empty family bed-and-breakfast and help host one last Christmas Eve party. Before her grandmother moved to a retirement community, Christmas Eve parties at the Cozy Holly Inn were legendary. Although the inn had been closed for several years, Julie didn't realize that the inn would be in such disrepair. Could she make her grandmother's Christmas wish come true for her family and the small town of Pinecone Falls, Vermont?

Julie's discovery of a white cat in the inn's basement adds humor to the storyline and even more of a delight as his name becomes Kringle. As Nolan Miller has moved back to Pinecone Falls with his dog Snowball to help his grandfather, it is inevitable that Julie and Nolan will meet. There's been discord between the 2 grandparents for a long time. Can Julie and Nolan help them find peace?

From the beginning, the reader knows this cozy, contemporary romance will have a happy ending, just as all who tune in to watch another Hallmark Christmas movie. The interactions between Snowball and Kringle are realistic and add to the adventure. The story reminds us of the joy of helping a family member's Christmas wish come true! Don't miss adding it to your tbr list of charming Christmas stories set in a small town. Like many Christmas stories, it can be read any time of year, but this one is especially enchanting to read during the holiday season, especially if snowflakes are sparkling outside your windows, with a cup of hot cocoa and a dog or cat nearby.

Who doesn’t love a Hallmark movie? Well, here’s your chance to enjoy one. In the form of a paper book. It’s cute it’s cozy. It’s comforting. If this isn’t your type of book, then stay away because this is surely a hallmark book.

A “feel good” Christmas story that embodies what life is like in small towns where everyone knows each other and is always there to lend a hand. Did it have a Hallmark film vibe? Sure! But that’s not necessarily a bad thing when you want a mindless escape. I do wish we learned more about the main characters, Julie and Nolan. I feel that the characters could have been developed more, providing more details that shape who they are. The story itself develops well, albeit predictably, but not annoyingly so.

Christmas magic at its best

What a wonderful book about “coming home” to Vermont to help her grandmother put on the last Christmas Party at the inn that was going to be sold after the holidays. Christmas magic brings love and a new beloved pet to a deserving woman.

Isn't it funny how the plot of the story can be same as hundreds of other books but yet it grabs you and you can't put it down? That's the way this book is. Julie returns to Pinecone Falls to help her grandma with a final Christmas Eve party at the Cozy Holly Inn. First, I wouldn't be visiting the Cozy Holly Inn at Christmas because it is in Vermont. And if I have to walk somewhere that the snow is up to my knees, that's too cold for me. But the description of settings just fills your heart with joy and bring wonderful images mind. Julie has lots of obstacles including the boy next door, Nolan. Jump on the wagon (or in the snow the sleigh) and check out this wonderful heartwarming story.

Look, I love a good big-city girl goes home for the holidays and has a small-town awakening” story as much as the next person, but sometimes they lean a little too hard into the idea that all life’s problems can be solved with twinkle lights and hot cocoa. Christmas at Cozy Holly Inn? It almost does that—but then throws in a grumpy cat, some mild enemies-to-lovers vibes, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting.

Julie Green didn’t exactly plan to come home to Pinecone Falls to play innkeeper. She was just supposed to throw one last Christmas Eve party for her grandmother, soak up some nostalgia, and then get back to her real life. Instead, she walks into an inn that looks like it’s about two broken pipes away from making the nice list of haunted houses. Oh, and her childhood rival-turned-annoyingly-handsome neighbor, Nolan Miller, is very much in the picture. Cue the classic “we have to work together to save this place” trope, which, despite being as predictable as the plot of A Christmas Prince 4: Yet Another Royal Baby, is still ridiculously fun.

Meredith Summers nails the cozy Christmas rom-com formula, and while you know exactly where this story is going, you’ll still enjoy every snowy, small-town second of it. The romance is sweet but never eye-roll-inducing, the town’s side characters bring just the right level of meddling charm, and if you don’t love Kringle, the world’s most judgmental cat, by the end, I don’t know what to tell you. With a well-earned four-and-a-half-star rating, Christmas at Cozy Holly Inn is the kind of book you pick up because you want to feel all warm and fuzzy—but stay for the witty banter, small-town antics, and the undeniable magic of a good holiday story.

This so absolutely the typical "Hallmark" Christmas movie ... in book form. It was fine, I won't remember it at all. I was glad it was done and told myself "no more 'ChristmasMovie' movies or books"... just fluff and no substance and probably not worth the time investment.

3rd person/past tense - single narrator ... fine, felt a little "old" in the voice, not as contemporary (even though the book is fairly new).

So stereotypical - girl goes to small town with the Christmas name (Pinecone Falls here) so wrap things up with Grandma's old in. Meets up with "him" (here, an old childhood friend). Some miscommunications, will the big Christmas party need to be cancelled? Throw in a dog and a cat ... I know the blurbs can shift up, but this one is very misleading where Kringle is concerned. The blurb "Kringle, the cat, only wants a warm home and his forever human. This girl, Julie, does not seem to fit the bill no matter what the nice lady at the animal shelter told him. Julie knows nothing about cats so he will do his best to get her to return him to the shelter. But as the week unfolds, Kringle discovers that people can change in surprising ways and sometimes what you thought you wanted, isn’t what you really needed at all." Kringle is NOT personified as a "thinking" cat ... we don't get his POV (it has happened in books where we get the animal's perspective).

The book says it's the first in a series - but I don't see sequels (okay by me). The kindle copy was available in KindleUnlimited, audio available in Hoopla.

Julie Green's grandmother is known throughout Pinecone Falls for her epic Christmas parties at the Cozy Holly Inn. Although she's about to sell the inn to the Miller family, who own the neighbouring Barrington Lodge, she asks Julie to come back and help her organise one last Christmas party.

Afraid that this might be her Grams' last Christmas, Julie reluctantly returns to Pinecone Falls and soon remembers things that she used to like about the small town she spent summers in as a child. Like how everyone asks after her grandmother and genuinely cares about her welfare. Like her friend Ivy whom she's reconnected with. And like Nolan Miller, the guy who her grandpa teased she would one day marry.

Meanwhile, Christmas has been a difficult time for Nolan Miller, ever since his mother died during the holiday season a few years ago. But he's coping with the loss better than his father and grandfather are. They've turned into Scrooges who have no interest in celebrating Christmas or even decorating Barrington Lodge for their guests. Nolan can't help but remember how much his mother loved Christmas and when he finds out that Julie is back to organise a Christmas party, he's eager to help. He just needs to keep reminding himself that his childhood crush isn't planning to stay in Pinecone Falls. Or is she?

Three stars for a predictable but sweet holiday read that will get you into the Christmas spirit.

A good book, well-written and very wintery!

All this before coffee. LOL. Julie has got her work cut out for her! Reading about her struggles with snow and with the inn was calming for me, but hectic for her! And the cat, well, she says she loves cats, but this one? This one seems too much to handle for Julie. She does get a bit impatient with him! And Nolan, I immediately liked him and his enthusiastic dog Snowball. The interaction between cat and dog was very entertaining. Julie was prickly with Nolan at first, but of course, that got better as the book progressed.

One thing I must say, I did find the book sad in places. Nolan’s dad and granddad were both so sad, there was a lot of grief surrounding him, and in a time that I’m very sad myself, I was very susceptible to this emotion. The fact that the author was able to transfer that sadness to me, does show how skilled she is, I really felt it! And luckily, as things tend to do in books, things got better along the way.

Beautiful ending! <3

A new Author and I throughly enjoyed it.
we begin with Julie who has to lewve her city life of Boston to head into rural Vermont where she grew up, to try to arrange one last Christmas eve party for her aging Grandmother.
she is feeling out of her depth with everything that is needed, seems the inn has been empty for some time. locals seems to love shes back other than the Miller family who want to buy the inn. The miller's make it he'll for completion date and the grandson, Nolan was Julie's old friend. can they stay friends?
Julie finds a stray cat in the inn which likes to attack and Nolans dog likes to chase the cat on walks in the woods. will they ever get on?
The party arrives when the Millers help out and Julie is rushed off her feet and realises she doesnt want to go back to the city of Boston.. The inn is for sale, what will Julie do? stay or go?

I enjoyed the book, I found the ending came to an abrupt end. it was all working towards the party on Xmas eve and then the end. I will read the 2nd book in this series.

This was my first time reading a proper holiday book, and it was alright. I love Hallmark and Lifetime Holiday movies and this felt exactly the same. It took me a while to finish it, but I'm glad I did. It's a cute premise but again, felt like Hallmark. From the beginning, I knew Julie was gonna stay in her small town, and fall in love with Nolan and run the inn with her grandma. The plot was simple and cute, but there wasn't any real conflict. Her problems with the planning of the party were very trivial and nothing really stopped her in her tracks. It was also confusing when the chapters would go from Julies to Nolan's perspective, there wasn't any labeling of that so it was a bit confusing. The ending felt rushed and the idea of Nolan's grandpa and Julie's grandma just agreeing to being partners instead of selling was very random and un realistic. Again, cute book but I knew what was going to play out.

Julie come to Vermont to get her Grams Inn ready for the last Christmas Eve party Gram always did. Now in a retirement home Julie will do this for her Gram. She lives in Boston so going to small town Vermont wasn’t where she wanted to be. As she gets there she finds a cat scratching at the door. Then finds out her best friend is owner of the pet store. She’s so excited to have a friend. The town all remembers her and odd jobs took twice the time cause everyone always stoped to talk. The small town grew on her the show up to help. Her childhood crush lived next door to the Inn they owned a lodge. His mom passed on Christmas 3yrs ago so his dad and grandpop wanted nothing to do with Christmas. But Julie found a picture of his mom and dad happy at Christmas party. It melted them. They helped Julie with the party. Nolan and Julie

Welcome to Pinecone Falls.
Julie Green came back to Pinecone Falls to get her grandmothers inn ready for a last Christmas party.
Her grandmother closed the inn because it was just too much for her to manage anymore as she got older.

While cleaning the inn, and reacquainting herself with former childhood friends including the former precocious preteen who made a complete pest of himself at the time, and his playful husky.
Julie starts wondering if maybe she shouldn't stay and help her grandmother run the Cozy Holly Inn instead of heading back to Boston to start looking for a new job as she was recently laid off.

This is a clean Women's Fiction/Sweet Romance that was a fun and relaxing read to help set the mood for the upcoming holidays, filled with hope and possible change.

This is the first in the series and the last that I read. Each story can be read as a standalone. I like the series as there is always a HEA.

Julie is at a crossroads in her life. Her grandmother’s inn is in the process of being sold. Her grandmother has asked her to supervise/execute their last Christmas Eve party at the inn.
Things are a little bumpy. The grandmother’s friend who runs an animal shelter can’t take the cat Julie has found.

This is a festive story and made me think of a Hallmark Christmas movie. I enjoyed it.
I listened to this on Hoopla thru my library. The narrator did a wonderful job.

I just love this first book in the new series about a young woman returning to her grandmother’s bed-and-breakfast at Christmas to help her with the last Christmas party before her grandmother sells the house and retires. Julie is such a likable main character: someone who you would like as a friend, daughter or granddaughter. She meets up with Ivy and Nolan, who she knew as a child while visiting her grandmother. Such a good story! I can’t wait for Book #2 to see what adventures await for Julie!

A wonderful and heart-warming start of a new series.
Julie Green has wonderful childhood memories of staying at her Grandma Ida's Inn.
But, her Grandma closed the Inn and retired a couple of years ago. Ida asks Julie if she would go and clean up the Inn and get it ready for one final Christmas party before she sells the property.
Julie agrees to leave Boston, and head up to Pinecone Falls and get the Inn ready.
As she reconnects with childhood friends, and the town, is she sure she wants to go back to her old life in the city??

Plain, simple and unexciting but passed a quiet evening nicely.
Both Nolan’s father and grandfather needed taking to task for their miserable attitudes.
Who would stay at a Vermont Inn that ignores Christmas. No decorations or tree. Certainly not me.
Not sure why Nolan didn’t make a stand, especially as he was planning on continuing to run the family inn. He thought the thoughts but wasn’t man enough to speak up and state his opinion, which he had every right to. He backed down every time. No backbone.
Ends up very hallmark-esk but was lacking a nice romance vibe for me.

A Happy Holidays read! Curl up in a comfy chair with a cup of tea, turn on some holiday music, and enjoy. A sweet story, an adorable (if big dog), and a feisty cat. Although the characters don’t seem to be able to make decisions…do I go back to Boston or do I stay here?, do I get involved with her or let her go?….Throughout the whole book, which got a little irritating. Other than the indecisiveness it’s a sweet story.

A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS STORY

She came for two weeks to give her Grandmother her last Christmas Eve party. However, Julie found more than she expected. Was the whole town in on her Grandmother's conspiracy? Even the monster cat? Where does Nolan fit into Julie's future plans? The way the author put together all the pieces and kept me guessing to the end, made this book interesting and enjoyable to the end. I recommend this book who enjoys a wonderful romantic Christmas story

Christmas at Cozy Holly Inn is a warm, feel-good holiday read filled with charm and just the right amount of romance. The small-town setting is cozy and inviting, and the characters feel genuine, making it easy to get swept up in their stories. The plot is sweet and predictable in the best Christmas-movie way—comforting, heartwarming, and perfect for a quiet winter evening. While it doesn’t break new ground, it delivers exactly what you want from a festive escape. A delightful seasonal read!
