I have read a couple of Ms. Costellos' previous novels covering the adventures of her interesting small-town cop who, while serving a mixed community of Amish and "English," inevitably encounters both connections and lingering resentments which are a consequence of her having left the Amish community as a girl years before.
In this novel, a woman returns to the Amish community where she is brutally murdered by someone she knows, but who remains a mystery to us until the very end.
As the story plays out, old tensions and grievances re-emerge, and newly revealed facts of long-ago events serve to complicate both our heroine's understanding, and our own.
Another book in the Kate Burkholder series, this book, as always, explores life in the Amish community as police chief Burkholder investigates the brutal murder of a formerly Amish woman. Its an enjoyable book and a fast read. I give it four stars instead of five because I considered the ending to be a little unbelievable. Nevertheless, I'll definitely continue reading this series
