Find your motivation, but also understand why you keep losing it
Sometimes you need to Sweat the Small Stuff to find out why things have not worked in the past and to be successful in the present. This is a different workout book as it deals with the mental blocks and sabotaging most of us all do about working out and keeping fit and healthy. Once you figure out what has stopped you in the past then you can discover what will keep you motivated, truly motivated, to stick with and sustain a fitness routine. I found this book to be quite helpful in certain respects. Not everyone will like this book but if you are a person who keeps falling off the fitness wagon, even if you have the best of intentions when you start rolling, then this book will give you some insight and strategies. It is an easy read and has good information.
Motivation has and will always been my issues oh and a very unrealistic goal to what /where I want to be weight wise. Reading this helped me to understand motivation comes in many forms and to basically create baby steps for not only workouts but everything. Reading this will help you understand you and why you don’t or do things in the manner you do …come on honestly who wants to workout well it helps you understand you may not want to, but you do need to. A personal trainer is someone who will motivate you regardless of what/how you are feeling well that is kind what this book does becomes a personal trainer so to speak so lets get our sweat on and when in doubt re-read a few or all the chapters to get healthy and stay healthy.
Quick read, but good advice. It all starts in your head (mind, brain), and with some simple tools and techniques, we can bolster our willpower and intrinsic motivation and make excessive fun again.
Very useful and interesting information about motivation for working out!i especially liked the section on how to build willpower, and the fact that you can build willpower at all!
Love the cover! He gives you great advice not just on exercising but goals in general. And I have read my fare share of books about goals at this point they all sound the same, but this book didn’t do that. I felt like he hit the nail on the head and did it very well. I was impressed even at just a few pages in.
I really enjoyed how this book also taught us how to let ourselves skip a day of exercise or eat a piece of cake. It really taught compassion and grace for ourselves. We won’t always want to exercise and I loved how he was saying you don’t always have to. It isn’t all or nothing. Most people don’t even work that way. Most people can’t do cold turkey and end up all right. I loved that Milo was taking about that in the beginning of the book which I feel was so just so important for me and for other readers as well.
This book should seriously be under Psychology since it is about how people’s brain and healthy bodies are linked. It honestly reminded me of my favorite book ,Healthy Brain, Happy Life but instead this one was written by a trainer while the other was written by a neuroscientist. I am most certainly one of those people who doesn’t like working out and because I have always had an amazing metabolism I didn’t see the reason to. I mean don’t only fat people need to work out? Isn’t that the point? I think it is pretty sad that we promote losing weight with working out so much that kids really do think that way. Why work out if I’m not fat? Because it is good for you!!! The parents always say. You know like broccoli and carrots are. So guess what you never work out and then you learn about what exercise does for even just your brain and you are like why don’t schools tell kids this?
