Please note this is a completely revised edition of No One’s Safe.
Late one night Danny Walters tucks his young son back into bed. He realizes the carpet is soaking wet just as he sees a man standing at the bottom of the stairs. The man lights a match. The house goes up in flames.
The next day, Detectives Tanzy and Byrd witness a horrific video posted online. Someone stood in the back garden filming as Danny and his whole family burned alive.
Across town, four women wake up in a dark, cold room. Every time they fall asleep, one of them is taken. People on the internet are paying good money to watch what happens to them.
Then Tanzy and Byrd get a sickening call. There’s an unconscious woman balanced right on the edge of her fourth-floor balcony. Someone drugged her and put her up there. The detectives race to the scene, just as the woman’s phone rings, waking her. She panics . . .
Darlington used to be a nice town. A quiet town. Not any more.
Detectives Tanzy and Byrd must stop this depraved killer before the body count rises.
Solid 4 stars! A great entertainment! C. J. Grayson raised the bar with his previous release. And he did it again. C. J. Grayson is a rising star. His writing skills improved so much since his debut book. This one is, in my opinion, his best work. It’s sickening good! I was enthralled by its opening and I was kept hooked until the very end. There is not a moment of boredom here. The storyline is very well developed and structured. It’s a page turner with chilling moments and I really did not want to put it down. What a thrilling book! There are some twists that I did not see coming. Although I was expecting a different conclusion I do think that this book was brilliantly written. This is the third book of a series, and I hope that he will bring back another instalment featuring DI Max Byrd and DI Orion Tanzy.
DI's Max Byrd and Orion Tanzy are on the job, with a case that proves no one is safe...Investigating a group of ladies out for a night who disappeared. No sight of them anywhere, no clues, What is going on?! Then a video shows up online of a burning house fire, capturing the family being burned alive, for all the world to notice in horror and fear. A retired criminal psychologist offers assistance to the investigators, but as time goes by, everything and everyone is Not what they seem to be! An exciting look into the real world of police work, with all of it's ups and downs, with cases and personnel. Fast paced with intense action and scenes you wish you could turn away from, but CAN'T!! I thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic story with well-described characters who you feel you know, wild action and people being themselves, only out for what they can get. I received an ARC from the author who I thank for introducing me to this detective team, and I offer you my honest thoughts and feelings in this review.
And no one IS safe, never a truer title! So we are back for our 3rd outing with DI’s Max Byrd and Orion Tanzy and it’s great to see/read about them again, I really love this unassuming duo and their work and their personalities ( saying all that you can read this as a stand alone ) This time the streets of Darlington are once again in chaos via a shocking game played on the dark web plus a brutal twist for those ‘enjoying’ the games Think SAW and think Chris Carter but add this authors unique way of ‘making a story flow’ and you get the idea, I sometimes struggle with police procedurals but not with this series as it is written so interestingly and concisely It is harrowing in parts, spine tingley scary in others but there is always the element of humanity and humour there to balance it out I genuinely love these characters and this series and this book for me is the strongest yet
Chris is certainly an author to watch. No One’s Safe is not just the title but a statement of intent from the very first pages of this book!
This is the third instalment of the series featuring DI’s Max Byrd and Orion Tanzy and set on the streets of Darlington. This time the case is darker and the perpetrator eviller than ever. We have two plot lines going on - A house fire that kills a whole family, and also the disappearance of four women from a night out. There is a raw no-holds-barred nod towards Chris Carter in the despicable acts, mixed with a bit of MJ Arlidge. I want to say more, but I don’t want to give too much away!
The plot flows well and whilst the pages are many you find your self eating up through them at great speed, whilst wondering what will come next. It’s a twisted and gripping read with writing that is nothing short of fabulous.
I’m shocked that Grayson has not been snapped up by a large publisher yet, but in my opinion that is only a matter of time. He’s a great a talent and I can’t wait to see what he delivers to our begging hands next!
Darlington residents are on their guard after four women disappear on a night out. Who has taken them and why?
When a video is posted online of a house fire, where the whole family perished, DI Max Byrd and DI Orion Tanzy need to get to the bottom of what is going on and why this family was targeted.
The title of this book, No One’s Safe, couldn’t be more apt! The final book in this series is action packed, fast paced and intense. An entertaining read that had me gripped from the start. Excellent characters and some really twisty plots. This authors writing just gets better with each book.
Wow, in my opinion the author has really excelled writing this book and I loved it. Just loved it. It really hit the mark with me and if anything C. J. Grayson’s books just get better and he has really lifted the bar high with this one. I think the author has such a great style of writing, one which always draws me in immediately and holds my attention all the way through. I loved being back in the worlds of Tanzy and Byrd and following them and their team as they investigate a number of murders, girls missing whilst coming under increasing pressure from above to solve the cases. When help comes from an unexpected source it is welcomed with open arms. But is all what it seems? I loved the twists in this book, had several wow moments and enjoyed the little glimpses of the characters personal lives, their friendships and working rapport. The book raced to a thrilling conclusion with all loose ends tied up. Overall a well written, thrilling book that was fast paced with a great plot line and had me enthralled. I didn’t want it to end and am hoping there will be another book to follow on from this. Very well deserved 5 🌟
Yet another Great Book from Author CJ Grayson, who has given us the 3rd book of his DI Tanzy and DI Byrd series. As with all his books you are into the action from the first page, with ‘no holds barred.’ There are two crimes playing out at the same time, each with its own gruesomeness, and this is where this Author excels, in his ability to make you feel, smell, taste and experience everything that his victims go through. There is a commanding sense of dread every time these detectives turn up at a crime scene that shivers go up your spine, before it is revealed exactly what has happened. Another conundrum is – are they connected somewhere? and secondary to all this are the dramas which are evolving within the detectives own lives. As with his previous books, you can NEVER second guess the outcome or who is involved, because there are so many twists, turns, and blind alleys, leaving you guessing till the end before all is revealed. This author knows his genre well, also his readers expectations, which he never fails to deliver. If you love crime, then this is a must read, and it should be on your TBR list!!
When a family die in a house fire no-one links it initially to any other cases.
Then a girl is gassed and wakes to find herself carefully balanced on a railing four floors up....but not balanced for long when her phone rings and startles her into falling to the ground below.
Another girl thinks a hot tub would be just the finishing touch for a house party, until both her and her partner reach a grisly, water-based ending.
Linda Fallows appears on the scene to help Byrd and Tanzy try to figure out whats going on after a series of similar 'elemental' murders in Essex.
Meanwhile four girls are abducted on a night out keeping the police in Darlington stretched to the limits.
What links all these events, and can their own be saved from being targeted?
A fantastic, pacy read which will have you holding your breath and surprised with the many twists along the way. Hold on tight!
The final of what feels like a long road (a very good one may I add). This is the author's fouth book and third in this series.
Who would ever think this is a self published author with very little help! This book screams professional. The way the author has found his writing style and made it his own just shows with how the story flows and unfolds as he takes you on a dark and mysterious journey!
Who would have thought that you could have multiple "bad guys" all within one book! Soooo many twists and turns, you come out battered and bruised from the tumbling!
Why has this author not been snapped up by a publisher yet is beyond me! I can't wait for this author to abuse my mind as I struggle to untangle the knots in his next venture.
Here we are again with two of my favourite detectives Byrd and Tanzy. The story kicks off from the first page and the action, twists and turns do not stop until the last page. I read this book within 48hrs which means I simply could not put it down. It’s my favourite out of the tripling so far and it shows how far the author has come with their character development Being born and bred in Darlington I find it sometimes strange to know exactly where they are and what they are looking it, but it is great to have a local author who I am loving. Not giving anything away with the plot but its highly recommended. How fast can I get hold of number 4 haha
Again this book has too many errors and wrong names, but it was quite an exciting read, in a rather predictable "I knew that was going to be the case" way!
For goodness sake, why aren't the Darlington police force using tasers? This would prevent an awful lot of the "oooops they got away.... again" scenarios and injuries!
I'm not hating these books but I just wish the editing was better.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Joffe Books for an advance copy of The Lingfield Point Killings, the third novel to feature DIs Max Byrd and Orion Tanzy, set in Darlington.
A case of arson kills Danny Walters, his wife and two sons. Byrd and Tanzy are struggling for a motive, but know it’s not good when a video of the fire is posted on the internet. Then they learn that an unconscious women is balanced on the balcony rail of an upper storey flat and have to watch as she falls. At the same time the team are investigating the disappearance of four young women.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Lingfield Point Killings, which is a tense, action packed read with several twists and turns. The plotting is imaginative, that’s my way of saying no realism involved, but who cares when it’s exciting and compulsive? In fact, I was taken aback by some of the developments, while some of them were more guessable. The author is taking no prisoners in this novel, so it should be noted that there is a high level of cruelty in the novel, not necessarily explicit, but certainly implicit.
The novel is told from various points of view, Byrd and Tanzy obviously, but also the four missing women and their abductors. There is little from the murderer except the videos and some messages, no hint of his thoughts or motive. I liked that as it gives the reader something to chew on. Surprisingly he is identified early on in the novel, but finding him, working out what he will do next and catching him are much more difficult. The plot is all about the twists and they’re great, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat, making them want to read more and gasping at the audacity of some of them.
The Lingfield Point Killings is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
I have read the first two of the series and really enjoyed them. That is why I am so disappointed with what I have read in this one so far. Why Mr. Grayson has made the police to look like total idots is beyond me. Why someone is balancing on a rail four floors up, why get a bunch of police standing around, would it not have been smarter to get the fire departmaen out with oh ladders and maybe a item that the person could fall into in case? The suspect is an IT so of course lets make it so the police have no clur that the IT could possibly know how to hack CCTV as ell as other electonics. Sorry, just to frustrating to read this book further. I can only hope the fourth bbook is better, because the first two were just so good, which is why I purchased this one.
A house has gone up in flames. A husband, wife and their two young sons perished. As if that isn't bad enough, someone recorded it and uploaded it to YouTube. Then a woman is killed on the balcony of her home. When that video is also uploaded, Tanzy and Byrd realise the cases are connected and find themselves trying to find any link between the victims, hoping to stop the killer before he strikes next.
Once again, an improvement on the last couple books in the series. The author has shown me some murders that I've never come across in any other book before, and I love that each death scene is unique. Super excited to start book 4 now.
This is a. Improvement on Charlie Grayson’s first 2 books in the Tanzy & Byrd series.with an innovative story line - someone is killing people by Fire, Air, Water & Earth. The writing is still simplistic at times, but the storyline kept me interested in the outcome. I just worry about how many police officers in Darlington are corrupt. Thank goodness I don’t live there!
This is the 3rd instalment of the Tanzy and Byrd detective series. Gripping from the word go, fast paced, short chapters, packed with twists and turns … You’re likely to end up with whiplash by the time Tanzy and Linda get to the abandoned house, don’t you worry about that! For those of you who haven’t indulged in this book, or indeed this series yet, you should do so with immediate effect. Eagerly anticipating the release of book 4 in this series WTR IA
I loved the first two books in this series featuring Byrd and Tanzy and this third book lived up to the others. Lots of dark, gruesome plot twists kept me turning the pages right till the end. Darlington is turning into the new Midsomer!
Tanzy and Byrd are in some ways an odd-matched pair, particularly at DI level, but the stories always entertain. The storyline here, although horrific, is well argued. Can't wait for the next one. Julian Tremayne, Pocklington, East Yorkshire
Another brilliant read, fast pacing, page turning full of twists and turns, some parts made me a big queasy but I couldn't put it down.. I've read all 3 of the Tansy and Byrd and I really hope we haven't seen the last of them
A few too many unnecessary comparisons of people’s body sizes and shapes. Yes we know Max doesn’t have a six pack. We don’t need to be told several times. Also a few too many “twists” but an enjoyable read and I will see what I make of the next one
I was really ready to lose myself in a good book and I certainly did in this one! The third book in a series and the best by far. Well worth my five stars... thank you CJ
This is a good crime thriller series and I thoroughly enjoyed this well written and well plotted mystery Recommended. Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Another breathtaking but twisted in so many ways book about the Darlington detectives of Tanzy and Byrd. I didn't see any of it ending how it did, well maybe one I had an inking of.
An arson attack kills a family of four. But this is just the start of the killings. Then the team get help from a retired DI. Four women have also disappeared. Can the team find the killer before they all die. An entertaining modern mystery
