DNF-I bought The Matchmaker box set, books 1-3, offered on BookBub because I really liked book 3 that I had bought awhile back. I also liked the first. But I didn't care for this second book, The Troublemaker. I quit not very far into it. I didn't care for the h in the first book. Seemed like a spoiled/disagreeable 12 year old. She seemed the same in book 2 but now she's an adult.
I've liked half of the books I've read by this author. Out of 9 books: I've given four of them a 4 or higher rating. Two I didn't care for sample or description so didn't read. This book was DNF and two I gave a 2.5 and a 3- rating. I've downloaded The Maiden Bride, her most read book. It's free on Kindle Unlimited. I'm looking forward to reading it.
3.5 ⭐️Sarah Palmer and Marshall MacDougal meet in Scotland as he goes in search of truth about his legitimacy and she goes to flee scandal in England.
Sarah is half sister to Olivia who inherited Bird manor from her scoundrel father. Marshall is also the son if the same scoundrel. If he is the legitimate heir, he nit inly inherits the estate, but also brings scandals to Olivia and their mother.
Sarah thinks to fix the problem before Olivia is back from family holiday, but becomes entangled with Marsh.
I really enjoyed the second book in the series. However, not as much as the first book. I really like how the importance of family is a major theme throughout the book. The fighting is pretty entertaining to read as well😂 One aspect of this book I’m not sure how I feel about is whenever the 2 main characters “fight”, he kisses her. Now I like the occasional shut the other one up with a kiss, but every time??🤔 These, for me, are a pretty quick read and they are entertaining enough as well. I’m going on a massive old English romance kick, and these books are fulfilling that urge.
If you enjoyed Rexanne's other Regency-set book, Dangerous to Love, you'll love this series, too. They're not your average family series. The heroines of the first and second books are half-sisters. The hero of the third book is the illegitimate nephew of the hero of the first book. And the upcoming fourth book features the two half-sisters' half-brother. It's less complicated than it sounds, and oh, are these books delicious!
I have a huge cheesy grin on right now and I am not ashamed. I LOVED this book. everything about it was awesome. For starters we have Sarah - I hated her in the beginning but then she changed matured developed in character to someone I want to be friends with. Marsh - what is with his swearing? I cringed every time I am not used straight up swearing in historical romance novels so I found it very offending. I am such a snob. Great story awesome plot loved the whole thing.
DNF I WISHED I COULD HAVE LIKED THIS AS THE FIRST BOOK BUT IT BORED ME HALFWAY.
The characters didnt endear me so I couldn't be bothered to finish their story. Sarah was just a spoilt brat who was excessively indulged while growing up and Marshall is just a bit petty but driven by revenge.
Lady Sarah is shipped off to Scotland after the latest of her reckless adventures, and meets Marshall MacDougal, who is determined to discredit her sister and mother to take vengeance on his dead father.
Absolutely ridiculous and kinda plotless. The heroine is very annoying, not to say stupid. The kind you want to catch and shake. The male protagonist is only a bit better, so I guess they deserve each other.
