A high-class escort turns amateur detective to find her friend's killer.
Liz Jeffreys went from runaway to Madam the hard way. She thought she had everything she ever wanted. Wealth. Power. Influence. Now she can’t un-see her friend’s lifeless body. Now she’s compelled to infiltrate the investigation and find the killer. There’s only one problem, and his name is Detective Jack Cunningham.
Jack is a focussed, successful investigator on his way to a promotion, until Liz Jeffreys sticks her nose into his latest case. No doubt she has a unique skillset, but babysitting an amateur is only going to slow him down.
Liz finds the thrill of the chase intoxicating, or is it agitating the handsome, brooding detective that has her so addicted? It’s all fun and games until Liz digs too deep, uncovering corruption and political turmoil far more powerful and dangerous than her friend’s killer.

Fiona's stories are captivating, bold, suspense reads featuring strong female leads, small, rural town settings and quirky Australian characters.
Her most recent Opal Fields Crime Fiction series has been described as “a fast paced action packed thrill ride through the outback”.

This was definitely not what I expected. A high class escort turned detective. When one of her girls is murdered, she turns to helping find the killer. Superb.
I don’t usually read thrillers, so I was pleasantly surprised to find the main protagonist was a woman and a high-class madam to boot! Liz the owner of a call girl agency in Adelaide is devastated when one of her girls is brutally murdered. Determined to be involved in the case it isn’t long before Liz, together with Detective Jack and his side-kick Max, who happens to be her ex-husband, discover a connection between the agency and a high-rise construction site in the city. Against the detectives’ better judgment fearless Liz, a former-call girl herself, uses her profession in various scenarios to glean information which would be otherwise impossible. All the main players are connected in some way, which adds intrigue to the story, although I found the changing of the characters’ names a little off-putting, ie Bruce, Dad and the judge being one person and each time I had to stop and ask myself whether Light and Malcolm were the same person. The story moves along at a good pace and I would recommend the book to anyone who likes a titillating crime novel.
I've just finished reading "Death Beneath the Covers" and must admit I was very pleasantly surprised. I got the book for free and have found many freebies just don't hold up but this one was a great read, one of those that you just don't put down. A touch predictable but enjoyable reading, none the less. The characters are believable and, I'm glad to say, human with all the normal human foibles. I will read more of this author.
Excellent This is a very well written murder mystery with good suspense filled moments and a believable cast of characters. I found this to be an engrossing read. I received this book as an ARC.
Unique storyline, with likeable characters. I was quickly drawn into the story, with unusual circumstances and twists and turns. Good read, never saw what was coming next.
Death Beneath the Covers: A Crime Fiction Mystery Romantic Suspense Novel (Foxy Mysteries Book 1), my fourteenth read from author Fiona Tarr. Enjoyable mystery, going back a few years to an earkier series she wrote. “I received a complementary Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to more from this author with Presumed Missing (Foxy Mysteries Book 2) high on my TBR list. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Another interesting story. I enjoyed it and recommend it. It is the first book of the Foxy Mysteries. I love all of Fiona Tarr’s stories. She keeps me interested from the first page to the last one.
I enjoyed this book, it was a good read, nice and quick with good main characters. Well thought out plot and I shall look forward to reading the next book with the same characters.
3.75 stars! This completely exceeded my expectations, it was so fun and really enjoyed are main characters. Sometimes the writing would mention really random things or minor details that felt unnecessary but overall I found Tarr’s writing super digestible and easy to get into!
My major ‘fault’ of the story is that I actually have no idea how the crimes connected, I got a bit confused with what actually happened and how all the players were connected.
But overall a super enjoyable, quick read (I finished it within 24hours) & will be picking up book 2 of this series :)
I’ve only just stumbled upon Fiona Tarr books and I love them. I love how they are all based in Australia, they are an easy read and it was a book that I could of easily sat and finished it in one night just so I could find out what happens.
