Another fantastic novel by Kerry Barnes with fantastic narration by Annie Aldington. This wasn’t the usual gang land thriller that I was expecting though, and at times it was deeply uncomfortable to listen to as our heroine is involved in cracking people smuggling/sex trafficking ring, so a bit of content warning for anyone who needs it. In all honesty I might’ve allowed it to pass me by if I’d known, but that doesn’t take away from the writing or how the story is delivered.

Harper took on the Russian and Greek mafia and won. A bit far-fetched but a good read. To be honest, it was hard to put this book down, I read in record time. An emotive subject that stirred up my emotions. The follow-up next....

This was my first foray into a gangland crime thriller series - I've always enjoyed TV Prison Dramas like Bad Girls and Wentworth - and I loved Deceit so thought I'd start a Trilogy by Kerry Barnes this time. Wow - this certainly isn't one to read at bedtime! Brilliantly crafted, well narrated and a really exciting listen. However, it does have some extremely graphic violence, well written on the edge of your seat stuff - but you have been warned. There's also copious use of the F and C words.

I can't wait to read the next two - Taboo and Torment - and the other series' as well but interspaced with some more sedate popcorn novels as I don't think my heart could take the adrenaline without a break between Kerry's books. I'm a Pianist by profession so after you read this book, you'll understand how horrific I found it towards the end! Go enjoy. 😃 😊 🎹

WOW Kerry Barnes has nailed it again with this edge your seat book. Harper Cane leaves prison after serving 12 years with only one thing on her mind her son. Before she left prison Harper had made a promise to find the missing daughter of another inmate. First things first she has to find a job and place to live so she can have her son back. This book is so thrilling and full of twists and turns that will have you gripped from start to finish and worth more than 5*

Wow but not suprised

Kerry Barnes you have done it again such a good writer. Every book seems to get better and better. One of our top literary talents. You can't help but love this book. You feel the hate in every word penned from our main protaginist and the people doing her family wrong. Smashed on every level. One of my favourite authours of all time. Class my darling and would not expect anything less. ❤️❤️

Hard hitting

This book is just full of twists and turns and plenty of action. Lots of violence and Russian mobsters. The main character is Harper Kane, she has just served 12 years for killing a man who was a paedophile and the book starts as she is getting out of prison. So much happens so quickly to this woman it gets right in there and so the story begins. I enjoyed this book and I would recommend it.

This was a brilliant read.

How far would you go to protect your family from being sexually abused?

How far would you go to keep a promise to a friend to find their missing child?

A young Harper takes care of her siblings until she is sentenced. Once released she wants to reclaim her right as a mother but faces difficulty.

Enter the Russian Maffia.

Bring in a bounty on Harper’s head

Find the link between them all and be surprised right at the end

I listened to this book Via audible and to be honest the Narrators breathy girly voice she uses for the main character Harper really ruined the book completely. Main character is out of prison for murdering her sisters abuser and her story begins when she leaves prison with nothing

Good plot really wanted Harper to get with her Russian fella though 😂 will definitely read more of this author. Would love to listen on audible but really can’t cope with the narrator

Oh my goodness this lady certainly knows how to write a crime novel.

It covers a Russian child sex ring among many others. It is packed with thrills and danger. Kidnap and violence.
I loved every page and didn't want it to end. Each character had their own story. The book takes you up and down with emotions.
Luckily this very talented lady is writing a follow-up.
I have read every one of her books and she gets better and better with each book, she is a contender for the queen of crime.
Very well done Kerry. If I could I'd hug you for keeping my mind occupied for nearly two days. xxx

Absolutely brilliant

Well what’s to say this book brought back memories of my days in the force. My absolute main hate was and still is peado’s this book is so well written. It has all the main elements in what sex slave rings are especially the money. This book will also help to bring awareness to this awful crime.
Fantastic read Kerry keep up the good work

I have read all of Kerry’s books and like the rest, this one certainly didn’t disappoint, it’s gritty and keeps you on the edge. Now the only disappointing thing is coming to the end and having to wait for book two . A plus five star read for me

Not a favorite but still engaging. Having read a few from this author I was slightly disappointed at the lack of likable characters including, Harper, the main one. However, that being said, the story was good with a few twists.
