Westbrooke Angels #1

Just Please Me

Rate this book
Weston Briggs is Westbrooke University's finest. Star athlete. Talented graphic designer. And an absolute heartthrob... living a double life.

We've sat next to each other all semester in silence. It takes a group project for us to finally talk. For some reason, I'm open with him about my secret darkness. And when Weston learns about my sadness he's determined to help.

His offer takes me by surprise. Weston wants to please me. He promises to be the perfect distraction. And I'm in dire need of one of those. There’s a just list of rules I have to follow:

No bullshit.

No titles

Listen to my body

Scream his name when appropriate

Leave when I don't need him anymore...

Seems simple enough. That is until his secrets start growing. He can't keep his double life in the shadows anymore. I can't take on any more shadows.

Leaving is inevitable. But my want for him outweighs logic. And his want for me forces him to make a decision. Does he want to take on the darkness or become it?

Disappointing

The book was trying to be cerebral but felt short. There were just too many holes to make it compelling. As much as I liked both Covee and Weston, by the end of the book there were still too many things I don’t know about them. For instance, who exactly are Weston’s parents ? What exactly was the problem with their relationship ? Same thing for Covee. A lot was alluded too but no real facts. As for how they decided to sort out Dakota ‘s issue, it made no sense. They could have developed a buddy system until they had something more solid to blow the story. In the meantime, Covee found enough to blackmail the coaches for them to leave Weston alone. I was really disappointed that the answer was for him to be a vigilante and loose everything including his spot at becoming pro or just graduate. Even more so that what they did didn’t stop the coaches from moving on and doing damage somewhere else.

O.M.G! What a book.... JPM all day every day please.

First time reading this author and I must say that I was and immediately became a fan. She is good, the good good type!
The characters were so opposite to one another but oh so right; more from Weston than Covee when usually it the lady who would be vulnerable or open or literally make a fool of themselves and yet in this story you found the reverse and this author being the great mastermind behind it, found a way fir this reversal to work. Westin and Covee’s story was the epitome of cute, edgy, entertaining, deserving of each other, loving, loyal and happy. It had its fair share of drama but overall a beautiful story was told about two individuals who amid all of their issues still found love-soulmate type of thing.
I did have some issues with some grammars and some feelings of unfinished business such as: 1) what happened to Lawrence? 2) where the coaches ever exposed? 3) what happened to both sets of parents? 4) what job did Weston have? 5) what happened to his football career or how did he got out of the game? 6) where is Kevin? And 7) where did they get married, and how was it? Just a few of what I couldn’t found reading even reading the bonus didn’t give nothing away. Hopefully these answers will come while reading Dakota’s story. By the way is it a new girl coming or is it Yara or Ari who will grab Dakota’s eyes? Can’t wait but it’s soooooo longggggg to wait until November....
Oh well it is what it is! So yeah it deserved the more stars ✨ And strong rating!

I couldn't finish it. For me it was taking too long to get to the point and for a book set about a guy asking a girl to please her there wasn't a lot of pleasing. Just a story about two people with issues that got in their own way. The two main peeps is Weston and Covee.

Honestly, the girl got on my nerves more than the guy did a few times because she just acted like she had no common sense. L
Also, she had all of these expectations of people and was too ready to tell on everyone. Like, "Girl, stop being so naive!" You can't just run tell that. Things have to be worked out in different ways. She was clueless for someone who had family issues. Usually those types are more in tune with how life works. She was not. Also, there were just parts in the book that seemed to drag on and on. I will say the part I liked in the book was when Weston handled her roommate for knocking on the door when she knew the Covee was "busy". Then again even that part was weird because the next time he was over and they get busy, he's out there talking to the roommate after she fell asleep. Naw, playa keep that same energy. You don't know her. So, yeah, I think I am going to have to move on from this one.

Just Please Me: Standalone College Sports Romance (Westbrooke Angels Book 1) by Deanna Grey
Rating 3/5 Stars
Disclaimer: I received an ARC from Deanna Grey. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This story follows Weston Briggs who is Westbrooke University's Quarterback. Covee Bailey who has been through a lot and is just trying to live a better life. Two have been sitting together all semester in silence but when they are pushed together to work on an assignment, they start to become friends.

They end up striking a friends-with-benefits relationship which starts off really well until Covee discovers that Weston has too many secrets and is practically living a double lifestyle. Now she must decide if Weston is worth keeping in her life or should she let him be consumed by his dark side.
This is my first book by this author, so I wasn't really sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the relationship dynamic between Covee and Weston. I loved how much they cared for each other and well as others. I really liked that they communicated with each other every time they disagreed on things.

What hindered my enjoyment of the novel was that I felt like there were too many plot holes towards the end. Finishing the book, I felt like there were still a few questions that I had that were never answered. I loved how the story dealt with such heavier topics I just wished that the story was a bit more flushed out. I wanted to learn more about Covee and Weston pasts because although we learned a lot, I felt like there was a lot we didn't know especially with their parents.

Overall, I enjoyed this novel, and I am excited to read more from this author and continue on in this series.

This book was a mess but in a good way. Definitely not the usual college romance. Covee isn’t your normal heroine. She struggles with anxiety, panic attacks and has a past of painful memories. Weston is the star quarterback but he has a dark past as well and it takes them on a pretty unexpected journey. A journey of redemption and healing. I loved all the extra epilogues we definitely get a glimpse into their super sweet future.

3.5 stars 🌟

This was the first book I've read from this author and it was a very entertaining read!

It was definitely a way more dramatic college romance story and I thought the couple was cute! They definitely had a lot of insecurities and trust issues which is one of main forces that they keep running into as the book progresses.

I definitely wish the stakes were higher or more elaborately explained. I feel like a little too late in the book it was explained what Weston was doing was so wrong. This may have also been because the book is told from Covee's perspective, except for the first chapter which is Westons.

Also I feel like Covee and Westons background with their family could've been dug into more with like flashback scenes or them giving examples vs like being vague about it. But that's just a personal thing for me

I definitely suspense could've been taken up a notch but I had a great time reading it and definitely was like oh my gosh what are they gonna do towards the end.

I really loved how this ended, the epilogue, and the bonus epilogue and thats where the .5 comes from in my rating. They all made me happy!

I'm excited to start the next book tho! I can't definitely see this author becoming a comfort read for me.

Loved Covee and Weston

I really loved this story between Covee and Weston. I liked how Weston was interested in Covee after he first saw her and how all he wanted was to please her so she wouldn't be sad. Covee was dealing with depression caused by a dysfunctional family and had no one to turn to. I liked that Cover met Ari and had a true friend and supporter who really knew her. Weston immediately took Covee into his circle and she became his #1 focus while Weston became Covee's lifeline. I was happy to see Covee opening up to others and coming out of her shell. We stones need to protect everyone seemed to have come from a deeper place than the incident at the prep school, but it was never revealed. Weston was a strong, caring yet sensitive guy whom you automatically fell in love with. And Covee was just about as honest and real as you can get and was perfect for Weston. The two of them together were good because they took the time to deal with their issues that were holding them back. Covee and Weston deserved their HEA and I was glad to see that they achieved that together.

I don't even know how to properly review this book. If I were to summarize it in one word it would be "Unpredictable", there was never a point in this book where I could predict what was coming next, it kind of made the story be all over the place at some point.

Weston had so many layers as a person, it was quite alarming honestly, dude was on some robin hood vibe but he would beat bad people within every inch of their life instead of steal from them. He was also very willing to take the fall for things every freaking single time, never freaking chose himself until the very end; I was not impressed with that side of him honestly.

Covee on the other hand was anxious, depressed, friendless and traumatized at the beginning of the book. It was good to see her win at life and conquer all her problems at the end of the book. I really loved her growth.

This story appears to be a very easy soft read on the outside but it's anything but that.

Was a.pleasure!

The writer gives us a meaty story we can sink our teeth in and just savor. We get two main characters that you actually like and cheer for and hope they come out winners in the end.We get some really heavy subjects that have been in our headlines and dealt privately among ourselves and in our communities. The chemistry is spot on and the interaction with the supporting characters is just so realistic. This was good writing, but I would have loved to see more.of the relationship between Weston and Covee. Overall this was a really good way to spend the day.

Through the Darkness

Great writing! Through their trauma they were about to find love. I’m not gonna lie, when he offer her a way to release, I was like dammmmzzzzzz, straight out the gate???? I really great read and I can’t wait to read more. She was a rider and I’m happy he got his ish together. I looking forward to finding out about how his other friends move forward after their trauma.

Weston and Cove

This book was amazing and the sex scenes were absolutely romantic and not rushed . I enjoyed the chemistry between Weston and Covee because it was a guy who wasn't a mean guy and then got the girl cause of a bet or something weird the vibe was just there . The honesty and the want and messenger they had really explosive . The characters were well fit together . I can't wait to read about Dakota .

This was a good read! 3.5 stars, rounded up, for Covee and Weston! Wish we learned more about Covee's history with anxiety about her parents and her friend(s). I was also confused about the events that happened towards the end of the book and I felt there were several holes in the story(maybe I just read it too fast), but overall I enjoyed seeing new friendships form between Covee and the other players as well as seeing the romance play out.

I rate this book 3.5 stars.

This was an entertaining novel. Cover and Weston have quite a complicated relationship though their chemistry together is sizzling hot and steamy. There were quite a few twists in the story and that made my heart hurt. However this story ends on a HEA and you need go get the bonus epilogue as well as that was cute.

LiISSSSTTTTEEENNN!!

I love the relationship between Covee and Weston, I was low key sad at the end of the book, I didn't want it to end. I would 100% say its worth purchasing. I will be reading this book again, so that should tell you something. That being said though, there were some things that were left unaddressed, I would have loved to know more about their backgrounds, maybe even have a scene with meeting Weston's family.

Refreshing

Long way from being in College, but I do remember those days, the hard work and the fun. The romance between Weston & Covee was sweet in some ways then hot in others. But I loved it all, my mouth fell open when he first ask her could he help her. Wow, the whole team seemed more like a family, some of them anyway. But I really loved this story, going to get Dakota story, this is a fabulous read people. Going to see what else I have missed by thus author.

Forget what you think you expect from a College Sports Romance...this book redefines all of that

Wow...just wow! This was definitely a pleasant surprise. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I wasn't expecting that. Incredibly well written. So much heart. I felt real sorrow when it was over. Thanks for the epilogue! Read this book. You will not be sorry.

Loss of words

Loss of words in a food way it was just that good I couldn't stop reading it even driving I want Ed to pick it up and read.... smh it was worth every stop I had to make to get back to this book to see the end. I'm glad Weston came back and that Covee got her man back. What's in the next book 📖🤔 I just hope its as good as thus one or even better.

Beautiful

I was hesitant to read this book but so glad that I did. West and Cover were everything. I loved how they loved each other through all the darkness. I would have loved to see Cover deal with her family but the book was wonderful as was the epilogue... My first book by this author definitely not my last

Weston and Covee were so cute together but they were entirely failed by the most outrageous and ridiculous plot.

This book could’ve been about 100 pages shorter if it had just removed the random and convoluted plot? Or it should’ve been longer and actually done actual justice to the plot instead of serving us the bullet train version?

Covee and Weston deserved better.

In short, a fantastic book. The chemistry between Covee and Weston was palpable through the words and Weston's boldness was something else. I loved that in the end they were both seeking help to cope with their trauma.

Weston

I loved everything about this book. I was most thankful for the lack of tropes and a heroine who wasn’t dickmatized. I’m not into new adult but the reviews convinced me to give it a try and I’m so glad I did.

Not what I expected

I was expecting the typical white guy falls in love with a black girl blah blah blah! Not the case with this book. This book is good! Not was, is. Don’t under estimate this author! The book could use some editing but all in all it’s good!
