An archaeologist caught in the middle. When adventure entered Anna’s life in the form of a tattooed pirate and a cursed map, she had been more than willing to answer its call. Having confronted her father and escaped his estate nearly unscathed, she thought they’d gotten away with their freedom intact—Anna had been wrong.
A pirate with a secret. Secrets had always hidden on Trevor’s skin or behind a grin. He’d never had reason to share their weight with anyone, but soon realizes revealing the secrets he’d collected could mean the difference between life or death for the wee lass he had grown so fond of.
A captain longing for home. Markus had joined the Briland Navy hoping to find home, but it hadn’t come in the form of a quaint flat or a sprawling city—it had come with a storm and the reflection of golden-green eyes. Trapped aboard with his sister’s ex-suitor, Markus finds himself longing for a woman who wishes she had let him drown all those years ago.
With their course set, Markus, Anna, and Trevor all have choices to make—ones that will affect more than just their lives. Caught between her growing feelings and her dedication to her family, Anna must choose: the pirate or her brother.

I AM NEVER GOING TO BE OVER THIS BOOK. If you like pirates and mystery and romance just READ IT!!!! I loved this!! *note though, there are a few sex scenes, I skipped until they weren’t as steamy.
First off I would like to thank the author for an advanced copy of These Hollow Shores. Second off, I would like compensation for my heart being shredded into pieces.
These Hollow Shores picks up right from where This Savage Sea ended, in the pit of despair. There was never a dull moment and I was constantly at the edge of my seat in suspense of what would happen in these crazy actions scenes. And the fact that these scenes always had banter and some comedic relief mixed in, only made them better.
I really loved the expanding of the world and characters in this sequel. So many characters that were just mentioned in book one made an appearance this time around and I have some new favorites, Tate I’m looking at you. Waltson’s writing is a masterpiece. TSS is incredible, but THS is somehow even better. You can really see how Waltson’s writing has grown. There was no sequel slump here, it only got better. All the vivid descriptions made me feel like I was there with the characters and all the personalities were so rich and unique.
Anna, my girl, my love, finally figured out the truth about her pirate and thought she was outraged the eventual romance between her and Trevor was truly amazing. I loved seeing them and their relationship grow. I also really loved the friendship between Anna and Tate!
There were so many times I laughed out loud during this book and had the biggest smile on my face, but Alex had me sobbing at the end and that cliffhanger killed me. It was such a brilliant cliffhanger and the writing was just so incredible, that I can’t be mad. I don’t know how I’m going to wait for book three though.
This is a must read series that I highly recommend! It’s got hot pirates, some magic, three unique POVs, and plot twists that will have you not wanting to set it down. Do yourself a favor, come join in on my pain and read this book.
Loved this book. Very captivating, great story and compelling characters. Some of the language was a bit repetitive, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
This book picked up right where This Savage Sea left off, and the adrenaline is high right from the start. Our three main characters are in a precarious position, and I was on the edge of my seat for the entire book, wondering what kind of trouble they will find themselves in next. The romance is spicier in this book, and histories are revealed. The ending left me utterly gasping, and I cannot wait for the next installment.
Oh well if that is how it is going to be, this book is worth your time, your energy and your passion. This book takes the reader on a wild goose chase across the the seas. Discover legends and discover where those legends were born.
Every single detail is thought out, every single line written in this book will lead you on a path of discovery that you are not even aware of until you reach the exact chapter when everything you though you knew, is explained and debunked .
I love how the author has shared teeny weenie little hints, that you are not even aware of. I ended up getting to certain chapters and literally gasping when I remembered something from the first book and putting it all together.
Anna is our archaeologist, yet I felt I was right there with her putting the pieces together.
Every secret is so subtle but everything has a purpose and that is only 1 of the reasons why I love this series so much. I absolutely love Anna though she is as stubborn as a mule in this book. But I love her courage and curiosity and her shear will to be what she wants and not what others want her to be.
These books feel a cross between Indiana Jones, The Mummy and Pirates of the Caribbean, with a dash of Tomb Raider thrown in for good measure. All good fun action. The first one focused more on the first two influences but this one was definitely more heavily leaning towards Pirates.
I don't want to say too much and give away spoilers but there is plenty to keep readers happy. All the fun, all the action, and all the sexual tension between Anna and Trevor is ramped up, making this book one non-stop thrill ride.
We also get to finally meet the brother Trevor kept going on about (as well as the rest of the crew) and honestly I don't know which pirate I prefer between him and Tate. Anna remains the headstrong smart ass, sometimes too stubborn for her own good and out to cause trouble.
And then there is the ending. The cliffhanger is amazing and will have you screaming, kicking and throwing massive tantrums demanding the next book be released immediately.
Honestly I haven't found a series as fun as this one in a long time.

Wow. Just wow. I am blown away. I loved This Savage Sea (book #1 in the Tides of Fate), but These Hollow Shores made me well and truly obsessed. I never want to leave or end this series because I would miss the characters too much. Walston's writing is engaging, descriptive and captivating as ever in These Hollow Shores. I have enjoyed watching her writing and story grow with each book. I cannot wait to see what Walston has in store for us in book #3.
These Hollow Shores begins where This Savage Sea ends and the action keeps coming until chapter 17. The action slows, but the romance does not. All the angst and waiting pays off when Anna and Trevor start to open up to each other and acknowledge this "thing" between them, and yes, forced proximity is to blame there and I loved it.
Be ready to get thrown right back into action until the end of the book and be left with an emotional damaging cliffhanger. I am still recovering.
Tate. We get to meet Tate in this book. I don't think I have laughed out loud from a book in a while. His commentary, shenanigans, and mischievous nature are everything.
Readers get a closer look at "The Man-Eater", Juliana Gray, and the mysterious first encounter between her and Markus.
Readers also get to meet the five pirate leaders of The Coalition. There are lots of new characters, but Walston wrote them all so well. They were easy to distinguish and remember. I hope we get more of them and their backstories in Tides of Fate #3.
The Tides of Fate series is one that will haunt you in the best way possible. You will find yourself thinking back on certain scenes or characters often and wishing for a re-read to be back in that world.
I highly recommend the Tides of Fate series for anyone looking for a pirate/archaeologist adventure,or who are fans of Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Indiana Jones. This series will not disappoint.

In book 2 of Tides of Fate, we catch up with Anna, Trevor, and Markus as they brave the high seas to stop a determined foe from waking a fabled sea beast. Charming pirates, deadly islands, and a romance to rattle the stars await in this swoon-worthy fantasy adventure.
This Savage Sea walked so that These Hollow Shores could run. Book 2 delivers on many of the promises made in book 1 and with great success, building on the characters and world in interesting, layered ways. I thoroughly enjoyed the worldbuilding in this book and how it all interconnects; Anna's background as an archeologist becomes more relevant as we get deeper into the pirate lore and it never feels too convenient. It was very easy to immerse one's self in the world of this story and each setting had a flavor all its own.
But what we really need to talk about is our main couple. Their chemistry throughout this book is fantastic; if you're a fantasy romance fan, you will be both delighted and devastated. Anna is a nuanced, believable heroine and even when you question her decisions, you still root for her in the end.
And then, of course, there's Trevor. I already said in my review of book 1 that Trevor has made my list of favorite fictional men and book 2 has served to reinforce that claim. He is also nuanced and, while completely swoon-worthy, is an alpha male in the best possible way: simultaneously the baddest mother and biggest cinnamon roll you will ever have the pleasure of reading about. I want only good things for him and Anna. Author, please, I beg of you!
As for criticisms, there were some weird scene jumps in this book, particularly in the latter half, and a lot of descriptions that I, personally, found repetitive. I still feel vague on some of the characters' backstories, but overall, the writing, the pacing, and the plot in this book have improved dramatically. As they should!
This book is everything a fantasy romance should be: swoon-worthy, exciting, immersive, and sexy... but not at the expense of the plot. If you are a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean, then this is the series for you. Book 3 needs to happen post-haste because that cliffhanger had me internally screaming. And that's all I can say about that!
I enjoyed this a lot! I prefer this over the first book but both are fantastic. I love the world Building and the characters (a fun pirate fantasy). I think the plot was more interesting in this book because it’s almost just a part 2 of book one.
Some complaints (that I can easily overlook because of the writing): - still editing errors that I saw in book 1, but not AS many (punctuation, random words misspelled). However, what bothered me more in this book was the repetition of phrases. They occurred several times throughout the book and the wording was almost identical in each instance (probably at least 5 different phrases seen several times throughout the book). Same with certain descriptors. It doesn’t bother me that much, but it shows lack of editing to me. - the cliff hanger didn’t… hang. In other books, we get one last chapter revealing something huge. Here, something happened but it was unresolved. It feels unfinished, like book 3 is just part 3. Think ACOMAF: huge plot point but ends with a bang of a twist. This didn’t happen here. It’s fine, but doesn’t leave me screaming. I think I know what will happen though.
Despite my critiques, I loved the book. Plot and characters are amazing and I love the smut. Definitely a great fantasy series so far and really easy to get into!
This book!!!! Oh my word!!! Walston crafts gorgeous characters where strength meets oh so human vulnerability. This is a fast paced, adrenaline pumping story filled with beautiful gems of insight. I still haven't recovered from that ending, but I can say this is a shining example of adventure fantasy done so so effectively. Characters we've come to love in TSS are revealed even more, peeling back intricate layer upon intricate layer. I'll be dreaming of Anna and Trevor until I can devour the next book in this gorgeous series.
Readers yearning to lose themselves in a world of pirates and fate, of unforgiving seas and turbulent storms, of love and loss and every emotion both a gift and a curse, this story is for you.
Whew, what a ride this one was. THS picks up exactly where This Savage Sea left off. So if you haven’t read TSS - stop what you are doing and go read that one and continue immediately with THS!
THS kicks it up a notch in the fantasy world, but having TSS has a primer helped me through all the world building and fantastical elements. While the fantastical elements/adventure kept my attention - I was really here for the romance between Anna and Trevor 👀
THS has it all and is the epitome of why I don’t usually read series until they are done! The rollercoaster of emotions that is THS ended with me sobbing and my jaw on the floor. My immediate thought was - this can’t be how it ends, where do we go from here?! Then I was immediately in Alex’s dms asking how she could do this to me. So I’ll just be here eagerly awaiting the third installment of the Tides of Fate trilogy to get answers to all my questions.

This book absolutely captivated me throughout the whole journey and then left me a gutted emotional mess. It was absolutely perfect. If you thought This Savage Sea (the first book) was just decent or good, this book is definitely better.
The adventure, the lore, more pirates and danger. More emotions and answers with more questions. The tale that is woven within the words of this story will leave you theorizing and wanting more more more. We address so many of the what and why’s from book 1, but are left with a few more that you know will just be woven so beautifully in the third book.
If you are here and haven’t read book 1, I recommend that you hop over and do so, especially if you love adventure fantasy that will keep you on your toes and has some of the best banter, characters, story, and anxiety inducing adventure (IFYKYK).
"I think you're caught in a tide. I think that tide is going to pull ye forward whether ye like it or not.
I love the first book, and this second book is just as good! All the pirate goodness (everyone on deck is gorgeous and I'm not complaining), witty banters, slow burn romance (plus angst. lots of it.), and the whole jolly adventure!
Like the previous book, I enjoyed the atmosphere of pirates, lands, mythical items and creatures... I just love it. Oh and the sweet surprise for me is Tate Lovelace! He is so cheeky and lovable haha I think he sweetened this book. Anna and Trevor got a lot to unpack and I love to see their relationship progress.
I fell in Love with Anna, Trevor, and Markus in book one, and figured book two would be just as good, but let me tell you - book two was even MORE fricken amazing. The secrets brought to light, the betrayal, the banter, what else could you ask for? And I didn’t think anyone could come close to the main three characters, but Tate may take the cake. I didn’t think I’d fund anyone funnier than Markus, but here he is. A.P. Walston takes us on a swashbuckling adventure full of pirates, magic, and such tension I didn’t know if I’d make it. She leaves us on one hell of a cliffhanger, and I don’t know how I’m supposed to wait for book three
Love these characters BEYOND. Full of action and character based storyline. The romance and the overarching plot are a slowwww burn. Great banter! Great tension! So full of heart. Salivating for book three!
My favorite red haired pirate, Trevor Lovelace, is back in book two of the Tides of Fate series! These Hollow Shores picks up shortly after the harrowing events of This Savage Sea. Our main characters are in a world of trouble, and THS takes us on a rollercoaster of a ride to see if they can get out of it. Knowing Anna and Markus and their habit of drawing trouble to them...I'll let you guess how that goes.
THS brings back everything I loved about TSS (Anna and Markus' sibling banter, Indiana Jones-esque adventure, Trevor blushing and flirting, lots of action, the tension between Anna and Trevor), and ramps everything up to 11!
There are new characters that I absolutely adore: the Man-Eater and Tate fucking Lovelace. We step on board the Pale Queen, the infamous ship of the Pirate King, as well as cross the Black Line into the dangerous waters and islands only pirates dare explore. There are legends of old come to life, and dastardly villains around every corner.
I could not put THS down!! It is full of action, adventure, and amazing characters!! The banter between the two sets of siblings, Anna &Markus and Trevor & Tate, is fantastic! Alex does such an amazing job at capturing the nuances of sibling dynamics. I loved watching the growth of Anna and Trevor's relationship in this book. They have to overcome secrets, mistrust, stubbornness, and decide if they're willing to be vulnerable with each other. Their relationship is complicated, it's messy at times, and it's completely captivating to read. Is there spice in this book? Yes, yes there is. And it is on point!
I loved everything about this book, even that cliffhanger of an ending! It left me speechless in the best way. Is it 2023 yet? Because I need the next book immediately!
Words were taking it’s time to process what I just finished reading. Now when we talk about cliffhangers and having a love/hate relationship with them as readers. This book hit that mark tenfold. This was one of those throw the kindle/book across the room types of ending. The last 6 chapters took me all day to read. I could see the foreshadowing of pain coming my way and I just wasn’t ready for it. This book picks up right where we left off in This Savage Sea and goodness I didn’t think I could love the story more but I was proven wrong.
This book has so much action in it I never felt a place in it that I was “bored” or that it dragged on. The “Indiana Jones” vibes are still there, still major tension between the two Main Characters.. there’s a bit of denial on our FMC part, our MMC is a ruthless Alpha pirate who absolutely falls first (he did in book one) but this book his feelings were clear the entire time! (I love Trevor 🤌🏻) this book gave us more side characters and my laughter at Tate was 🙌🏻 he was hilarious…. I can’t wait to get more of him interacting with Markus next book…. The writing in this book was even more descriptive, for example that during some of the injuries that were explained I got a little 🥴 because of the descriptions were easy to imagine it in my head what it would have looked like!!! 👏🏻 bravo 👏🏻
How am I going to wait till next year for book 3????? I really hope these characters are screaming at you A.P. to finish that book like pronto. I NEED to know what happens?? This can’t be how it ends!!!! There was not even a way to stop our fall off that cliff you left for us….
The theories running through my mind are wild!!!! I will not share as I don’t want to spoil for anyone else!
These Hollow Shore is does not skimp on the action at all. In fact, things amp up in this second installment. Character relationships grow stronger and there is so much more emotion involved.
There was seriously never a dull moment. Just when you thought things were calming down, it all picked back up again! The hunt for the pirate king's map, for Marcus and then the kraken had Anna, Trevor and the Pale Queens crew constantly on the move as they sailed throughout the world Walston has built. Speaking of the world, I love how very real it all feels. There is a mystical quality while at the same time feeling as though it could all take place in our reality.
Walston's writing is some of the most vivid I have read. She has the ability to write scenes that pull at your heart strings and then turn around and make you laugh with her witty banter between characters. I am seriously so impressed with her writing and I am so thankful for my friend who recommended this series. I really feel like I am in the world with the imagery and language used throughout.
There was so much growth within the characters. We see Anna learn the truth about Trevor and their relationship takes a hit as she tries to navigate what this means. There were times I was frustrated with the two of them as they lacked the ability to communicate well with one another given Anna’s stubborn nature and Trevor’s unwillingness to express himself clearly. Despite these moments, their romance was fun to read and follow.
The cliffhanger to end this book just about killed me. I am beyond ready to find out what happens in the third book. I truly enjoy every moment of These Hallow Shores and have found myself incredibly impressed with A.P Walston’s writing ability.
In this daring and exciting sequel we find ourselves back with our Pirate King and our lovable Anna. This book continues it's Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider/Pirates of the Caribbean/Mummy vibe seamlessly. We get to know more of our side characters (Tate especially), and watch our mains swim through the tides of fate (see what I did there). This achingly slow, slowburn does give us a TASTE (without giving too much away) and such a good taste it is, although I still found myself...wanting more... Maybe I'm just a glutton for spice though because I always want more. The character development is written in such a subtle and captivating way that you feel like you're growing righg along with them. Anna and Trevor are still the most frustrating 'couple' on the planet. Marcus, our resident damsel in distress, is about to have his moment and so I hope for his sake we will be clamoring to save someone else for a change. I would love to see more of the Man Eater, and of everyone's favorite little brother Tate, actually I'd like to see Tate after class...
I am going to continue this review by saying that I am positively furious and anyone who has read this series and A.P. Walston know why. I was SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP SOBBING at the end and I'm not sure I can ever forgive anyone for what may or may not be to come. I am rivoted, and I want to throw myself on various objects and sob like the princesses in the Disney movies. I will CLEARLY rush to buy the third book because I can not possibly be expected to continue on with my life like this.
i had real problems following the plot breaks - writing was (wait for it) a bugger. there’s no real character development and the plot is fuzzy at best. this really wouldn’t need a third book imo
Okay, it's been a day since I finished. I'm still recovering.
This book started right where This Savage Sea ended, with everyone bleeding out (of their hearts and bodies). Kinda where this one ended, too. Seriously with these cliffhangers! I'd be angry if I didn't love it so much.
It wasn't just the (extremely well thought out and executed) plot that glows, but also the characters with all their d*mn beautiful layers! The banter, the heat, the lust and love and the absence of fading to black (woo!)... I read through this hefty book in three days and just wanted more!
Not only did we get lots of Tate this time around, but also a whole chorus of amazing new characters to love and hate and picture n*ked and picture not alive.
You have ruined me!
Obviously, five dang stars, and a couple of constellations, painted on the ceiling.
My oh my. What a rollercoaster! These Hollow Shores, Book 2 in The Tides of Fate series, was even better than the amazing first book, and I am REELING WITH EMOTION!!!! First of all, the characters are impeccable. The Savage twins, Anna and Markus, are remarkable...wicked smart and so fierce! And our pirates...Trevor Loveless was so charming in book 1, but in this one, I fell madly in love with him!!!! And who knew I’d love his brother Tate just as much?! High action, a formidable foe, romance to take your breath away, this book truly had everything! Recommended for anyone who loves pirates, action/adventure, romance, and reading for escapism! Read This Savage Sea first, and then FOR sure pick up These Hollow Shores!
