When he grew up, he gradually realized that black people did not receive equal freedom in South Africa, and later even instituted a apartheid system. Mandela decided to change this inequality, and he suffered years of jail for this.

O livro Nelson Mandela, que faz parte da colecção "Pequenos livros sobre grandes pessoas", editado pela Fábula, é mais um pequeno livro que promete surpreender. Trata-se da história de vida de Nelson Mandela contada a crianças a partir dos 9 anos, enriquecida com ilustrações a acompanhar a biografia desta figura incontornável da história mundial. Desde a sua infância na aldeia até à presidência da África do Sul, passando pelos anos em que esteve preso, Mandela sempre lutou pela igualdade de oportunidades e de realidade e defendeu que o rumo de uma vida não pode depender da cor da pele. Infelizmente, isso ainda é uma realidade na nossa sociedade, mesmo que de forma subtil e não com a dimensão do apartheid.

Recomendo esta leitura a pais e filhos e que se discuta a mensagem inerente à biografia de Mandela: o respeito e a igualdade entre todos.

The cover intrigued me in getting a copy of the book, TBH. It is quite evident that its a children book, but the lessons that Nelson Mandela has imparted through the book, is not for kids alone.It is very easy to simply preach through words of wisdom, but what connected me to this kids book was the fact that the narrator has made sure to put a face to the saying - by actually narrating a real life incident in Nelson Mandela's life that got him to learn what he did & that definately convinced me that none of the #nonfiction books could so far.So if you have kids or not, if you find yourself a copy of this remarkable book, plz give it a read. It's full of pictures & stories with an abundance of life learning

I’m not rating Mandela, but the book.

A couple of things bothered me in this book, but maybe it’s the French translation I read. Some sentences are weirdly associated with the content of the illustrations: for example, an illustration of a letter from Mandela states “I will never leave South Africa “ and then the text says Mandela leaves the country... He also has two different birthdays apparently.

I think it’s great to make his story accessible to a younger audience, it wasn’t a perfect execution for me.

I liked this book because it was a biography but it was one that could be interesting for young readers. I haven't found many biographies that I think children would enjoy reading but this one was a great format for young readers. It was inspirational as well as informative. There are several other people in this series as well that have been written about so students can learn more about many different people.

A basic overview of Mandela’s life, from childhood to university life, to activist, to long imprisonment, then subsequent release and unanimous election as president of South Africa. His perseverance to end inequality and obtain freedom for his people is inspiring and shocking to consider how recent it was that open and harsh racism was still prevalent in South Africa (black people were first allowed to vote in 1994!)

Amazing small tale.. I found it a really great book for kids- around 5 years onwards. Also recommended for adults who needs to work upon their history and wishes to learn more in less time. I loved the pictures as well as easy to grasp language. Captivating and inspirational..

i read this for school and i just loved the simplicity and illustrations! i counted this to my reading goal because, it IS a book.
