DeAnna Julie Dodson has always been an avid reader and a lover of storytelling, whether on the page, the screen or the stage. This, along with her keen interest in history and her Christian faith, shows in her tales of love, forgiveness and triumph over adversity. A fifth-generation Texan, she makes her home north of Dallas with four spoiled cats and, when not writing, spends her free time quilting, cross stitching and watching NHL hockey. Her first books, In Honor Bound, By Love Redeemed and To Grace Surrendered, are a trilogy of medieval romances and have just been redesigned and freshly edited for Kindle. She is also the author of the contemporary mystery, Letters in the Attic, and has recently signed on to write another Annie's Attic Mystery: The Key in the Attic, due out in 2012. Her newest books, yet to be released, are A Dinner of Herbs, a Civil War drama, and a 1930s English mystery, Rules of Murder. Civil as an Orange, her current work in progress, is the sequel to Rules of Murder. Deceptive Truths by DeAnna Julie Dodson is an intriguing mystery. Jayla Randall was a 911 operator who listened in on the murder of a woman in her apartment. Luckily, the story only hints at the terrifying experience. I don’t think I could ever actually listen or read of the actual happening. In story present, Jayla is a police dispatch operator. Still, a scary job, I think.
Cooper Cole is a former police officer, one who was shot in the head during the investigation of the woman who was being murdered in her apartment. He quit the force. Broke up with Jayla and is presently a detective.
Like any good romance suspense story, Jayla and Cooper are thrown together to solve this prior murder when another one happens in the same apartment on the anniversary of the first murder. They must get past these murders in order to have a future together.
Dodson knows how to layer a mystery. Knows how to torment her characters. Knows how to keep the mystery at bay until the very end. And of course, Dodson knows how to bring her protagonists together at the end. If you’re looking for a good mystery with a touch of romance, then Deceptive Truths by DeAnna Julie Dodson is the novel for you.
Jayla works as a 911 operator and last year received a call where she could hear the caller being murdered, one year later another woman is killed in the same apartment, Jayla works with Cooper a former officer who was injured at the first murder. Together they work to solve the second murder and confirm that both murders are connected. Killers are found after much suspense and confusion. Great read.
