Fiona McArthur has worked as a midwife for thirty years. She is the clinical midwifery educator inner rural maternity unit and teaches emergency obstetric strategies while working with midwives and doctors from remote and isolated areas.

Fiona has written more than thirty romances, which have sold over two million copies in twelve languages. She has been a midwifery expert for Mother and Baby magazine and is the author of Aussie Midwives. She has also written the novels Red Sand Sunrise, The Homestead Girls and Heart of the Sky. She lives on a farm in northern New South Wales.

Three wonderful stories about professional outback, women and men doing their best work.

Cate and Noah, Bella and Scott, Rory and Kate.

It felt like I was at work hearing all about the different types of experiences women go through in birthing.

Beautiful reading

This had warmth and a lovely feel of the outback, and some very likeable characters. As a box set this was a total delightful bargain read. If you like medical and like Australian then this is too good too pass up.

The first story, Emergency in Maternity, was my favourite, although it's (almost) instalove. Cate & Noah go from dislike & clashing to a marriage proposal within nine days, & marry three months later. Admittedly, they're thrown together by a flood emergency & spend almost all their time together. The descriptions of the Macleay River, on the mid-north coast of NSW, where Fiona McArthur lives, in flood & the effect it has on the local people are evocative. It's presumably an event she's lived through. Cate & Noah are both strong-minded & stubborn. They'd probably be daunting in real life but strike sparks off each other & make a captivating couple. I like that Cate comes from a loving, intact family: virtually all the other MCs in this collection are orphans and/or only children. 4*

I'm not sure why book 2, A Very Single Midwife, was included in this collection. It's the middle book of a trilogy about three sisters & we're given a recap of the dramatic events of book 1, so it's an odd choice & the one I liked least. It's set in the same area as book 1. Scott is obsessed, to the point of tedium, with the age difference between himself & Bella (he's 42, she's 30) as it was an issue in his marriage (he was 20, his wife 35). He also kisses Bella uninvited, which makes the book feel dated as attitudes to consent have changed in the past 23 years. 2*

The desperate drive, with a seriously unwell pregnant woman, along a backroad in the Kimberley region in the far north of Western Australia in book 3, Midwife in a Million, makes gripping reading. However, Fiona McArthur knows a lot more about midwifery than she does the geography of the region. The fictional Jabiru is said to be near the diamond mine (i.e. south of Lake Argyle) so why on earth, when there's a sealed highway nearby, would they drive north & then take an ill patient along a remote, 4WD only road to go the 600 km to Derby, particularly as they're only 200 km from Kununurra, with a hospital & airport? 3*

My other complaint is that the print size in this book is tiny; I struggled to read it, even in good light.

I enjoyed this book which has three short stories about the outback and issues with giving birth in small outback towns. It was a most enjoyable read with strong characters and different birth scenarios in each story.

Each story had it's hardships and difficult hurdles to get over from the past for romance to win out.

Took a while to get into the first story . Once I was into the story line , it seemed to end very quickly . My favourite was the last story . I couldn’t put the book down towards the end . So beautiful and heartfelt 💕

Great book! Cosy romance at your doorstep with a twist of small action, seeing as it involves drs and midwives. The last story Midwife in a Million, was one that kept me on the edge of my seat, slow burn for sure!!

This was perfect holiday reading.
Three quick and easy romances centred around different regional medical centres and midwifery in Australia.
I liked the characters and the heroines are all strong independent women.
All in all a lovely collection of HEA stories.
