Colin Conway is the creator of the 509 Crime Stories, a series of novels set in Eastern Washington with revolving lead characters. They are standalone tales and can be read in any order.
He also created the Cozy Up series which pushes the envelope of the cozy genre. Libby Klein, author of the Poppy McAllister series, says Cozy Up to Death is “Not your grandma’s cozy.”
Colin co-authored the Charlie-316 series. The first novel in the series, Charlie-316, is a political/crime thriller that has been described as “riveting and compulsively readable,” “the real deal,” and “the ultimate ride-along.”
He served in the U.S. Army and later was an officer of the Spokane Police Department. He's owned a laundromat, invested in a bar, and ran a karate school. Besides writing crime fiction, he is a commercial real estate broker.
Colin lives with his beautiful girlfriend, three wonderful children, and a codependent Vizsla that rules their world.
Murder By Any Other Name by Colin Conway A 509 Crime Story Collection Volume I
Murder and death abound in this collection of stories set in the 509 area code of eastern Washington state. Murders and those who commit the crime are varied and though the outcome is death…every story is different.
There are eleven stories that are compelling and complete and all take place in under two hundred pages. It is amazing that such short stories can pack a wallop and can stay with me for longer than I thought they would. I would not want to run into Lonnie in the truck stop or become employed by Tiger at the Hope or stir a relative to murder or well…end up as many of the victims or even some of the murderers did.
This was a collection I gladly highly recommend and hope that if you choose to pick it up, you will enjoy it as much as I did.
Murder by Any Other Name - A collection of stories that will make feel good about yourself
A very different look at The 509. A collection of stories that will make feel good about yourself. I admit I was confused for about half of the book. I must have missed the part that said these are unrelated short stories. Having said that, they are brutal looks at the 'not for prime time' family units. Definitely not suitable to read to the kids. The stories are well written but there is a lot left out that left me hanging. Check it out, see what you think.
The stories are interesting and well written, but I do prefer the full length novels. I've never been a particular fan of short-stories once I moved beyond reading fairytales as a child. I felt like the 2 collections of 509 short stories interrupted the flow of the series for me, because they were listed as books 7 & 8 in the series list. I would suggest to future readers, skip books 7 & 8 if you're reading the series in order and save them for later.
An interesting excursion into aspects of crime that we rarely see in books. This one brings home the reality of, "sometimes the bad guy gets away." A most interesting read, for sure. This whole series has kept me racing through each other. Highly recommended, I'm off to start the next one.
Don't usually read short stories but this author's books are so good and I wanted to read more. These did not disappoint except I didn't want them to end.
This collection of stories was so interesting. Colorful characters and twisting plots. And each one ended with a "no way!" Who knew murder could be so enjoyable. I learned lots of ways to get away with murder. My husband says he's nervous. 😁
I've ready many o Colin Conway's full length books. I stand in awe of any author who can do that. Now I feel equally awed that he can write and wrap up a story so quickly. Can't wait to read another!
I read this a few years ago and I just finished it, again, Can't change anything. All the stories were good Loved the retired cop' I've read a few of Colin Conway's works, mostly cozy mysteries, so am pleasantly surprised at his talent in this genre. Always crisp, well developed characters and plot line. This is a series of short stories in the 509 series. Fun stories, especially liked the one "Whisper" "
